That's one thing I like about the Nuzlocke community, in general everyone's really chill & friendly and just looking for a fun time and they're not really in it to judge other people. Nuzlockes aren't really my thing, when I play Pokemon, I just do it to relax and chill without needing to stress about anything (hence why I don't plan to ever attempt a Nuzlocke myself), but I still enjoy watching other people do Nuzlockes, since there are times where it alerts me to the fact that certain other Pokemon can be really useful (such as Gastrodon & Cradilly), and that has led to me giving those Pokemon a try myself. It's for a similar reason that I like the Dynamax Adventures in Sword/Shield's Crown Tundra DLC, as it forces players to use Pokemon that they haven't raised themselves, and it forces them to learn how to use Pokemon in different ways to how they might otherwise do so. If I ever want to play something that's actually hard, that's when I turn to games like Dark Souls or Bloodborne. But I'm generally a casual gamer, I'm really just in it to relax and have fun.
@@cat-vt5uy What version? The game they're playing is a rom of either Soul Silver or Heart Gold, with the use of a separate randomizer program to.. randomize the game. The base game isn't like that.
Not gonna lie, Jaiden and Alpha getting Jan’s name wrong carries MAJOR Ash and Stephan energy. Like, I can just picture Jaiden and Alpha seeing him like, ‘Oh, hey Jan’ and Jan just stomps his foot and yells ‘It’s JAN!!’ cause this is the fiftieth time they’ve gotten it wrong throughout their journey
This was truly a heartwarming video to see! Jan usually has a pretty serious and sometimes cynical persona, but he was having such a good time reacting to this video! I've never seen him laugh so much and every time he saw himself in the video he could not stop himself from feeling pure joy!!! I'm so happy him and Jaiden have created this positive dynamic between each other ever thought I don't even know if they've ever spoken! It's really nice to know that Jaiden's video started Jan's career so I can't imagine how good it feels to know that Jan is officially in one of her videos! Jaiden made a video, Jan reacted to it, and now Jan is in the video. That cycle is now self sustaining in the best way possible!
"The worst thing you can do is getting distracted. That said, this part is SO BORING I would have died by getting distracted too." Is such a fun and fair evaluation haha
The fact that he 'corrects' them saying it pronounced otherwise yet he mispronounces Decidueye wrong by then saying "there is no correct way of saying things" is literally the most dumbass thing he has ever said
Honestly kind of emotional by Jan's reaction to everything, he just seems so so happy, the fact he gets to be one of the most recurring characters in the finale to the series that kickstarted his career is so wholesome.
Well that's the price to pay for being professional Jan. Critically acclaimed and constructive criticism compounded by classic and challenging nuzlocke content.
Legitimately screeched when I realised Jaiden included you in the nuzlocke. Congrats on finally making it. The burden of being the best nuzlocker in the world probably is a heavy one to bear but somebody’s gotta do it.
Honestly the type limitation is one of my favorite aspects of the soul link (as a viewer) watching the mental gymnastics that can go into squeezing out just 1 more usable team member can be so satisfying
Never watched one of your reaction videos and I gotta say honestly it's so refreshing to see someone not gatekeep nuzelocks. This guy is so chill "you wanna play on switch mode? That's cool" "oh you wanna use items? That's cool" "play with your nuzelock rules who cares"
Oh yeah, it's a little surprising to see some get so elitist about it like they didn't start with the same freeform rulesets. That's how you practice to start with and get a feel for encounter judgements.
@@tracyblanchard7663 I literally do nuzlockes with the base rules but then my friend who was watching decided to suggest additional rules and I just sorta went with them. It's more fun and basically just chaos now. But it's great
+ he does actually recommend new and more difficult rulesets when he sees people win with "softer" ones which, from a third party perspective, sounds very motivating
My personal favourite will forever be when Jadien restarted her E4 attempt in Platinum and Jan basically just went "Yeah, if you think it's more fun or just want to try again, just do it."
Yeah, and the first run was wrecked much moreso by bad luck and surprise coverage than sloppy plays and bad team setup too. Pokémon is a game of numbers and sometimes those numbers can just roll against you even when you're playing to the best of your abilities. I can't fault retrying in the face of such freak misfortune.
If only Jaiden and Jan could do a nuzlocke together, then have Jan react to the resulting animation. Shame the series is over, would’ve been cool to see a Gen 5 Nuzlocke from her.
Who knows? Perhaps she'll come back to this series one day and on that day Jan will be able to participate in a Nuzlocke with her. All we have is hope, but that a bad thing to be have. ;-)
Jaiden basically did the hardest work out there: she faced the hell itself. Almost every Gym Leader had a legendary pokèmon on his/her side. Ofc it's a randomizer, but... How evil can RNG get sometimes? By the way, BIG CONGRATS for this combined nuzlocke, guys! :D PS: I died when I finally saw PC become a REAL antagonist in the animation. xD
I love how I watched the animation with no context for who Jan was and it jokingly comes off like Jan is a Blue Oak kinda person, but then I watched this and it turns out he’s a teddy bear with the occasional hard truths.
Don't know if she glossed over it, but a lot of people forget the extreme speed dratini you can get from Clair's grandpa, all you do is leave the cave, go back in, and he gives it to you.
@@kyle5790 Yes it would be, just saying a missed opportunity at another Pokemon. My brother also doing a randomizer soulink nuzlock recently also forgot it existed, but he got something bad like a buneary or ratata out of it.
@@kyuumons It does depend on your version though, Silver and Gold didn't have it, Crystal, Heargold, and Soulsilver do and if you don't answer the questions correctly it's just a regular dratini, not a special one with extreme speed.
The "no same typing" rule is probably also there to weaken preparation, since you could both just go into a gym or fight with proper typed mons on both sides (this is overall probably more relevant for non randomized runs, though)
At this point, I honsetly wanna see you do a Soullink. With yourself. Like, play the same game, but randomized, 2 different seeds, 2 save stats, and just...y'know, you being BOTH players :D
Having watched Jan's Storm Silver playthrough, he lost the majority of his Pokemon to not paying attention, be it grinding, walking into big fights with the wrong team(like the kimono sisters), or not taking seriously trainer encounters like camping children or other random trainers.
Just realised that Jaidens final team has a Grass/Fire/Water core. Definitely an advantage if you get one of those. The other one that im aware of is Dragon/Steel/Fairy.
@@williamd2989 Dark/Psychic/Fighting aren't a great trio defensively imo, Dark/Psychic both weak to Bug, which depend on the Gen to know this matter or not, but if base on like gen 7th+ Bug-type is quite decent.
@@missingdev0948 I think they may have been saying to have SmallAnt go up against the pro nuzlocker controlling the NPCs as a sequel to run of going against the world champ NPCs.
My very first nuzlocke is a bw2 soullink with a friend of mine. Not only is it my first nuzlocke, it was my first time playing bw2. I was pretty much relying on my friend to guide me through stuff. We’ve had some very memorable moments, but the best part of our run is a audino-magnezone pair we named Audozone. I vividly remember my friend lamenting accidentally running into the rustling grass and getting an audino, then BOTH of us falling in love with the pair as the run went on and they kept carrying the team. They practically became our second starters. Unfortunately, audino Audozone died to the team plasma sage’s cryogonal in the frozen city. My friend was quiet for a solid minute before telling me what happened, he was in sheer disbelief. Right now we’re at the water gym and are seriously struggling to make ends meet without them.
I know we don't acknowledge the spam bot account but: Megan: ''Hotter'' Hopi: ''Sweeter'' Joonie: ''Cooler'' Yoongi: ''Butter'' Жизнь, как красивая мелодия, только песни перепутались. Feels like that out of your friends which are you meme with that random Russian at the end of the list
in case you're wondering: the typing rule for the soul link typically works in a way where it rotates who gets the new encounter first, and the second person re-encounters if the two mons share the same primary typing. That being said, that isn't an option for static mons, so if those share the same primary typing, you just can't use them at all. Some people tend to use unusable static mons as "tokens" which you can trade for an additional encounter on any route of your choosing, but I think thats a bit cheap.
I think a cool challenge for you would be a 'Soul-o-Link' where you play through two games at once by yourself. It would add the extra challenge of optimizing teambuilding for two different games which you were talking about would be really fun for you, and also the risk of losing two mons at once to make it more interesting. And/or a Soul-Link with Wolfey :)
When you were talking about "getting that magical moment" I was reminded how when I played Sword, my Eldgoss won a double battle that killed the other 5 members of my team. I was very under leveled and I have no idea how I lived, but I did thanks to that Pokemon. While Eldegoss is not my favorite grass type, it is a VERY close second to surviving the "Whipped Cream Massacre" in the Hammerlocke Battle Cafe.
3:47 Fair point, but I would argue that randomized runs can in fact test your knowledge of Pokemon's systems even more than a standard nuzlocke. Going up against God with a few random pokemon forces you to improvise a plan to defeat him. The more you know about the particular game you're playing, the more easily you can worm your way through the fight.
30:45 this hits. Years ago, beginning in August of 2017, I did a SoulSilver nuzlocke. I got through ALL the gyms with no deaths, minimal over-leveling (1-2 at most), I *think* I even limited the number of pokemon I could use per gym battle but it's been a long time and idk where my rules doc ended up as I have moved computers since then. And then, as I was doing a bit of grinding to prepare for facing Lugia (since I had no deaths and a lot of spare pokemon in case the worst should happen, i wanted to challenge myself to beat it w/o using the Master Ball)... I had THE SINGLE biggest head-empty moment. Worse than Jacob throwing Onix into Jynx, because at least he had a misinformed-yet-well-intentioned friend advising him to make that dumb decision. I was entirely on my own for this entire nuzlocke. I was in the Dragon's Den and got into a double battle against the two girls with the Dratinis. At this point, I was leveling up my Ampharos, and my Gyarados happened to be in the second slot. And then, I mindlessly called for my Ampharos to use *Discharge*. If you have even basic pokemon typing knowledge, you probably know what happened next. I put that nuzlocke down and haven't picked it back up since Nov/Dec 2017 when this happened. I could make excuses for myself. As I said, I was grinding in SoulSilver which, as I believe even Jan has said, has AWFUL wild pokemon levels that make grinding a time-consuming nightmare. And I was doing this on a genuine cartridge and not an emulator, so there was no option to speed up. But quite frankly, there is NO excuse for such a supremely empty-headed move. That was "literal baby" levels of stupid. That said, I still haven't reset the cartridge. Maybe one day I'll return to it and finally finish the fight.
35:40 I like to imagine that he’s giving this reaction as their Pokémon goes down in-universe. He’s standing over them “Oh oh! Gotta watch that counter! There’s actually just one of those things that you learn when you play more, especially facing fighting types…” meanwhile, Charizard is wheezing it’s last breath as somber music plays.
Jan is on a completely different level than them. The guy managed to beat (even thought it took 151 attempts) Emerald Kaizo Nuzlocke with harsh restrictions.
@@allshipper2158 I argue thats why it would be fun. With his higher skill matched with their lower skill, it would make for alot of tight situations especially in a soul link where Jan's high level strategy could be ruined from the "low level" strategies of Jaiden and Alpharad. Especially if they keep it as a randomizer, it could make for some weird situations for all 3 of them.
@@AustinD_YT Maybe, but they would definitely need to drop the type restrictions. Avoiding type overlap is difficult enough for two players, it would be so much worse if you added a third person.

Jaiden: HI JAN!
Jan: *through possibly the most wholesome smile ever* Hi Jaiden!
But I'm generally a casual gamer, I'm really just in it to relax and have fun.

in case you're wondering: the typing rule for the soul link typically works in a way where it rotates who gets the new encounter first, and the second person re-encounters if the two mons share the same primary typing. That being said, that isn't an option for static mons, so if those share the same primary typing, you just can't use them at all. Some people tend to use unusable static mons as "tokens" which you can trade for an additional encounter on any route of your choosing, but I think thats a bit cheap.

What happened afterwards? This sounds really interesting
@@somerandomgoblin2583 Said nuzlocke is on my UA-cam channel. Click my name and there is a playlist. ^^
Maybe one day I'll return to it and finally finish the fight.
do it
35:40 I like to imagine that he’s giving this reaction as their Pokémon goes down in-universe.
He’s standing over them “Oh oh! Gotta watch that counter! There’s actually just one of those things that you learn when you play more, especially facing fighting types…” meanwhile, Charizard is wheezing it’s last breath as somber music plays.
Now I want a three way soul link between them
That sounds hilarious
Sooo.. an orgy?
