Telling your nuzlocke tale in the form of an animation helps a lot to make the travel more interesting in narrative terms. For example; saying that Corn's phantom saved Zip Zag at the last minute from Altaria's earthquake was a nice, emotional touch.
Considering that the concept of the Nuzlocke originated in a webcomic, yeah it works really well as a narrative. Especially because a Nuzleaf is involved, just like the comic.

I did a Soul Silver nuzlocke. I looked up encounters for everywhere and noticed that the Cliff Cave has got wild Steelix at a higher level than everything else. A creative use of Repel guaranteed that encounter, and it was very literally the backbone of my team to stomp through for an easy victory.
@@wilh3lmmusic repel prevents any encounters with wild pokemon of a lower level than the one in the front of your party. So I trained up a spare one to the exact right level.

Came here because she named her rival in her newest nuzlocke (heart gold/soul silver) after you for reacting to her and the guy she was doing her randomized Nuzlink with.
The math is off here. While 8 EVs gives 2 hp at level 100, they will only give 1 hp at level 50. For her level 32 Magneton who got 160 hp EVs to lose 2 hp it requires 24 EVs to be missed, in this case 12 marills. So if she didn't KO 12 of those marill (and instead KO'd something else for the levels) she would have lost Zipzapzop.

Just did my own Sapphire Nuzlocke adopting Jan's rules: - No overleveling the next Gym Leader. - No items during battle except Hold Items. - Set Mode Had a few pretty humiliating losses: - Lost Gyarados to Norman's Slaking. - Lost Marshtomp to Machoke's Revenge on Route 115. - Lost Manectric to Milotic on Route 120. - Lost Banette to Foresight + Revenge from a Machoke on Route 127. (Revenge was my worst enemy in this Nuzlocke, I also learned what Foresight does) - Allowed Wailmer to evolve because I forgot Wailord doesn't learn Water Spout until 44, which I was planning on using to take out Tate & Liza with ease. - Lost Wailord to Archie's Sharpedo. - Lost Meditite from missing Hi-Jump Kick. But in the end I had some victories as well: - Used a Grumpig for the first time (kind of bad, but still cool). - Learned that you can get items like King's Rocks and Focus Bands from Linoone's Pickup. - Learned to beware Foresight, as mentioned above. - Deathless Winona because Castform is a monster. - Deathless Wallace because he can't touch Shedinja at all (kinda felt like cheating tbh, but only a little since Shedinja was underleveled and could barely do damage). - Learned of the devastating power of Ninjask's Swords Dance + Baton Pass to Armaldo. - Deathless Pokémon League Challenge. My team in the end was: Ninjask (Swords Dance/Aerial Ace/Slash/Baton Pass) (Shell Bell) Armaldo (Ancient Power/Protect/Slash/Fury Cutter) (Sitrus Berry) Grumpig (Psychic/Confuse Ray/Rest/Bounce) (Chesto Berry) Castform (Hail/Sunny Day/Weather Ball/Thunderbolt) (Nevermeltice) Walrein (Surf/Ice Beam/Rest/Encore) (Chesto Berry) Flygon (Dragonbreath/Earthquake/Crunch/Strength) (King's Rock)

Seedot on that early route is a great encounter for one important reason. The Nuzlocke run was named after Ruby's Seedot with the face of John Locke who evolved into a Nuzleaf in the original comics. I always feel like I'm following in a legend's footsteps when I catch a seedot in my Nuzlockes.

Crowbat literally carried my first playthrough of Sapphire. One of the older kids talked me into trading my level 5 starter for a level 20 something Zubat.
That is impossible. In gen 3, you need more than one Pokémon to trade. You get pokeballs after beating May, but at this time, your starter is forced into two battles making it level 6. So how was it level 5? (Yeah I had nothing else to do)
@@lolloblue9646you can lose against the zigzagoon/poochyena that attacks the professor because it runs away if your health gets too low, but you HAVE to beat the first rival fight to progress and I’m fairly certain it will always give you at least enough exp to level up from 5-6
I will forever LOVE Breloom. Why? Here is a story! I've been playing Pokemon since red and blue, and I had a real life rival who I was never able to beat. Junior high high school, never beat him. I eventually made it my goal that I would at least be m in one game. Stanley happened in X & Y. I got a male Breloom who I named The Duke, taught it Mach Punch, and gave it a King's Rock. (In case you didn't know King's Rock has a chance to make the opponent flinch.) It was a close match and he eventually killed all but The Duke. He had two Pokemon left, one was almost dead and the other was at full health. I was able to Mach Punch it and cause it to flinch allowing me to kill the full health one. And being that it's Mach Punch always goes first it was easy to take down the one after that that was almost dead. So after almost 13 years I finally beat him thanks to my Breloom.

So... I wanna start off comment by saying that I've never really watched Pokemon Challenges before, but I know a lot of people who "Professionally Nuzlocke," most of them are elitist pricks who demand that nuzlocking must only be done one way, and have no sympathy or compassion for new/casual nuzlockers. That being said, this is one of the best reaction videos I've seen, he's a very polite guy who offers really helpful advice without coming off as know-it-all. You can tell he loves the game, and is enjoying watching JaidenAnimations play for the first time. I legit never comment, but this video has earned both a comment and a subscribe. Great Job!
Oh, no, he does come off as a know-it-all, but in a respectful sense... Especially if you've seen some of his other videos. He does have a bit of an ego, considering how long he's done Nuzlockes and all the experience he has in them, but... *usually*... he tends to be mindful that not everyone is as good as him and tries to be helpful and give positive criticism for the most part. I enjoy... I'd say about 80-90% of this guy's content, which is pretty good ratio I think.
@@krystallinekris The ego is part of his character, in his old videos and streams he’s actually shy asf, then found a persona he felt fit his channel. @@solemnander ok? Some people like playing nuzlockes kind of casually, not every nuzlocke requires that. Sure, there could've been better plays i guess, but alot of deaths seemed hard to avoid. Ive always played like that except when I have a chance of losing then i grind random mons on steroids and/or its my fav mon. P.S My fav. Mon has died every time ive caught it and its never gone to the pokemon league

This is why I consider Steven Stone the third toughest champion to deal with, and almost competing with Leon for the number two spot. Because Metagross was a lot scarier when it resisted dark and ghost and your gen 3 options for fire and ground were more limited. And even if you take it out, if you waste too much on just Metagross, the fossils can be an issue, between Cradily's tankiness and Armaldo's damage output.

Part of the point of the rules in a locke is for you to get attached to your mons, that's why you name them. There isn't supposed to be this bs of callously sacking mons off because "they aren't useful anymore" because the context of the run is this is a living creature that you have raised and spent time with that will actually cease to be alive when it hits 0 HP.
@Andrei Salvaleon If any pokemon fall in battle your journey stops forever. You won't be able to continue on because it will never be the same. You will forever be in mourning.
Man nuzzlock players are heartless, I'll do whatever to make sure my mons will survive. Ok this is cool, never knew people would really behind this type of comment so I guess.... thanks I think. Oh and as for you people telling me that I basically have to do it while sacrificing a couple of mons I recently did a pokemon shield nuzzlock for fun and went through without any of my mons dying, the only rule I changed was I can pick what routes I catch pokemon on so I skipped route 1 through 4 and built a solid team
So this happened to me like last week, I started a new pokemon insurgence run, made it a nuzlocke, went to route 1 and caught my encounter which was a nidoran male, pretty sick if you ask me it's good a decent typing and good stats and move pool albeit a bit slow. 30 seconds later i step through some grass and i find a shiny nidoran male and suddenly I have brothers in arms pinky and bluey and they carry me to victory, as I make one really bulky and defensive and one really offensive with earthquake and stuff like that.

Accidental EV farming. Gotta love it.

@@sketch3744 I can kinda see that, though I guess we just agree to disagree; I think that, at the time, Jaiden might've heard about EVs, but didn't really know about them. I don't have evidence of this, but considering the research shown with some of the other details (high/low rolls, specifically), it's the sort of thing where, at the time of animating/recording, it would've clued in to her by then, that it wasn't "chance" or "divine intervention" that saved Z.Z. Telling your nuzlocke tale in the form of an animation helps a lot to make the travel more interesting in narrative terms.
For example; saying that Corn's phantom saved Zip Zag at the last minute from Altaria's earthquake was a nice, emotional touch.

- Lost Manectric to Milotic on Route 120.
- Lost Banette to Foresight + Revenge from a Machoke on Route 127. (Revenge was my worst enemy in this Nuzlocke, I also learned what Foresight does)

- Lost Wailord to Archie's Sharpedo.
- Lost Meditite from missing Hi-Jump Kick.
But in the end I had some victories as well:
- Used a Grumpig for the first time (kind of bad, but still cool).
My team in the end was:
Ninjask (Swords Dance/Aerial Ace/Slash/Baton Pass) (Shell Bell)
Armaldo (Ancient Power/Protect/Slash/Fury Cutter) (Sitrus Berry)
Grumpig (Psychic/Confuse Ray/Rest/Bounce) (Chesto Berry)

He had two Pokemon left, one was almost dead and the other was at full health. I was able to Mach Punch it and cause it to flinch allowing me to kill the full health one. And being that it's Mach Punch always goes first it was easy to take down the one after that that was almost dead. So after almost 13 years I finally beat him thanks to my Breloom.

@@krystallinekris i think most of the ego stuff is slightly put on and a joke
@@krystallinekris The ego is part of his character, in his old videos and streams he’s actually shy asf, then found a persona he felt fit his channel.
At the end of the day he has explained that he feels people should play whichever way is fun for them without over or underselling their accomplished in another video. Which is pretty cool of a take tbh.
@@r.r.4563 The comment was 7 months ago, and I understand it's part of the character. I've even seen the videos that Jan says people shouldn't get up in arms becuse someone doesn't play a nuzlocke 'right' because they're allowed to enjoy a set of self-imposed rules for a children's game the way they want to. I think it was for the Jaiden reaction for Pokemon Platinum Nuzlocke. I like him for that stance.
It's just that, fake or not, that display of ego can get rather repetitive and annoying after a while. xD That's all. Dude himself, beneath that, is rather chill though.
@@krystallinekris He's got ego and he got every reason to have it. Man's done more NUZLOCKE hours than probably alot of ours gaming hours. I don't understand why y'all people don't like it .like he feels like such a chad. He's got ego but he ain't toxic with it.

SmallAnt is really underrated. Definitely one of the best "big" poketubers when it comes to strategy
Yep there definitely are pokemon youtubers miles better than this guy saying he's the "best nuzlocker in the world"
Why do I have a feeling this dude would be really good at try not to laugh challenges
Because there exists no challenge he can't face
Yeah, I've thought that too lol. It's kind of interesting reacting to things analytically
you see the problem with this video is that there was no strategy at all. They should have sacrificed their friend in order to come out on top, it's worth sacrificing in a situation like this, as you always want to be thinking of the optimal plays, it' pretty easy
@@solemnander ok? Some people like playing nuzlockes kind of casually, not every nuzlocke requires that. Sure, there could've been better plays i guess, but alot of deaths seemed hard to avoid. Why go to such extremes to say there was no strategy? It was her *first* nuzlocke and all things considered she did pretty good.

I'll tell you about my first nuzlocke. I FUCKIN LOST TO A CRIT FROM MY RIVAL ON THE FIRST FIGHT.. so I retried thinking, "Must just be a fluke" only to have it happen again on the very next start up. Taking that as a sign, that was the last time I attempted a nuzlocke (it was black 2 if that matters)
oof that’s what happened to me when I tried a Nuzlocke in Pokémon Let’s go,
Just assume that a crit could happen every turn and switch pokemon more frequently
@@PredictableEnigma bro it's was the starter fight????? There was no switching there LMAO
Yea not all crits are avoidable sadly. For rival battles when you only have your starter, you basically just restart until you don’t get crit lol. The good part is tho, it’s not like this takes a while.
My sign to stop actually playing Pokemon was when Copia the Rattata died of Weedle poisoning before I could get her to the hospital
Ya know, I was kinda scared you'd criticize her harshly for maybe some noob moves, but I'm super happy to see that you were respectful about it and offered commentary rather than laying beat downs lol A solid video, and will definitely be checking out more!

Can we say how the Nuzleaf being the saving spirit of Magneton is mindblowing when you know the origins of the Nuzlocke Challenge?
What are they?
I wanna hear them too!
@@lorgon2111 The Nuzlocke challenge was born in a comic called Pokemon: Hard Mode. The reason why it's called "Nuzlocke" is that the first Pokemon captured by the author was a Seedot who died after evolving to Nuzleaf, he appears resembling Lost character John Locke as a recurring gag.
I appreciate the fact you actually complimented when she did well and helped when she did not so well, very respectable, will be watching more.
"Gotta learn your opponents learnsets"
That one hit me hard. Emerald Nuzlocke, getting through the Magma hideout, completely forgot Baltoy knew self-destruct and got my Gyarados killed.
Is Gyarados any good in Gen 3, though? I never used one before Gen 4, but I mean, water moves are all special up to Gen 3 and Gyarados is physical, so...
@@cosmefulanito6854 It can learn both rain dance and dragon dance and has intimidate ability so I think it's pretty good.

The thing is he's right. Once you reach that Champion battle, you have to stop playing a nuzlocke and start playing a competitive battle.
@@TheWonkster no, you don't do it because "they aren't useful anymore", you do it because you don't want ALL of your mons to die. Victory at any cost.

I actually started a nuzlocke, and then I found a shiny pokemon and.... that's it.
I just stopped forever.
Just use a shiny clause? That's what I do and it adds a really fun random element to your run.
*you could just tweak it a bit like just catch it ,if it dies just store in the box! And... Then flex to your friends :)))
Or trade it out
So this happened to me like last week, I started a new pokemon insurgence run, made it a nuzlocke, went to route 1 and caught my encounter which was a nidoran male, pretty sick if you ask me it's good a decent typing and good stats and move pool albeit a bit slow.
30 seconds later i step through some grass and i find a shiny nidoran male and suddenly I have brothers in arms pinky and bluey and they carry me to victory, as I make one really bulky and defensive and one really offensive with earthquake and stuff like that.
@@frostyfloofy6786 I tend to have a graveyard box in nuzlockes because there are only so many different locations you can catch a pokemon in and even if half of your pokemon get wiped, most of the time, thats still not enough to fill the entire box anyway.
