Welcome to my channel! Today we are looking a various way to connect your receiver to your tv. If you have any questions at all about anything you see in my video feel free to ask me in the comments section.
There are essentially 2 types of recievers ones with HDMI and ones without HDMI hook ups. Today we are going over both of these types of receivers. Were also going over devices with RCA hookups and how to hook them to your stereo and tv.
For the ones with HDMI you literally going to hook your device (Roku , PS4 , Cable box, etc) directly into your Receiver. You will then run another HDMI cable from your receiver to TV.
For Units without HDMI you will need something called and HDMI Audio extractor this will allow you to get the audio signal from the HDMI signal and send it to your OLDER model reciever.

I was pulling my hair out yesterday. I bought a tv and it was delivered. Before taking it out of the box I found the manual online and realized there's no hookups for my rca cables (r/w/y) and I also have a set ared and white for audio.
I did some Google searches and found there's all kinds of adapters out there for the rca cables but never came across one for the r/w audio cables. Your video is the only one I've seen so far and you mentioned both issue. I will check your links now. Thanks so much for sharing!

Wow..thank you so much for this video. This is far the easiest guide to follow. I bought this amp today for a bargain price (seems people are going for soundbars nowadays) I connected everything up with ease and also set up the Amazon stick using a battery pack for power..something I learned from this video and didn't realise I could do. I am so happy with having big bass from my sub and clear sound thorough the other speakers. Top video

I was just curious about something that maybe you could help me with. I purchased a high end Yamaha receiver back in the days of the HD DVD and PS3. I am not sure how long ago that was but it was a long time ago. Anyway, I still have the receiver and I use it all the timebecause it has amazing sound.
I recently purchased a 4k 120hz 65" TV and want to take advantage of all the new technology on the TV. The speakers on the TV sound ok but not what I am used to. From what I understand the optical cable is limiting what my receiver can do with the information it is receiving from my TV.
The first part of my question is that for some reason I can't get my receiver to work without using an optical cable. I really don't understand why this is. I have tried everything I can think of in the settings of the TV and the receiver but can't seem to fix the problem. I have two HDMI inputs in my receiver and one HDMI output. The TV has one normal HDMI input I think and four 4k HDMI inputs.
The second part of my question is should I hook all of my other components like my PS4, laptop, PS3 etc directly into the TV and then down to my receiver or from the receiver to the TV? Also does it matter what type of HDMI cables I use?
The receiver has all the bells and whistles that were out at the time so 10.2 surround, THX, DTS, etc.

I looked at the product you linked and it says it will NOT send audio. I bought the same thing from Avedio. Do you have to have a convertor that says ARC to be able to send sound from tv to stereo? That's what I'm trying to do and I got zip so far. Cheers and thanks.

Also whether or not I need a scrambler are there any unique settings on my new TCL 5 smart TV that will help (better) mesh the old receiver speakers with the new TV picture timing? If at all necessary... thank you.

    Hello Review King
I have an older Onkyo Receiver and 6 CD changer hooked up to my surround sound. Until 2 years ago, the system was connected to my TV via Component connections and the display and sound was fine. Since 2 years, I have an HDMI TV and the Component connections stopped working. I have tried a component to HDMI and it does not work. I saw a video showing how I had to open the Onkyp and change the diode(?) on the mother board. I am not going to mess with that. My HDMI has 3 regular and 1 eARC HDMI connections. The onkyo has 2 HDMI in and 1 HDMI out and 3 component in and 1 component out and 2 coax. The TV does not have any coax. If possible, I would like to reverse and play the TV sound on the Onkyo. Thanks. Keep up the good work.

This is great! I'm trying to hook up a cheap RCA hd tv to an old Technics receiver (way before hdmi) and already bought a digital to analog converter. However, I wasn't aware that HDMI converters exisisted and therefore my converter does not have HDMI but rather coaxial out from the tv and into the converter. Should this work, or should I buy another converter? Obviously, I have no idea what I'm doing. Any advice would be really appreciated! Thanks!

    • @RobS123
      @RobS123 2 роки тому

It should work. If your receiver has no digital inputs, all you need is an analog audio signal via RCA jacks and if you have a digital audio out from the TV, the converter will give you that Analog audio output your receiver needs to give you left and right sound from your stereo speakers. HDMI simply combines the digital audio with video into one cable and allows a modern receiver to process it all from a single cable, and handle switching of multiple sources like a "switchboard" to feed video to your TV and audio to your surround sound speakers.

I need some specific advice. I am suffereing fromo 5.1 speaker distortion. Is there a way that we can communicate to get your help? In summary my situation is this. The cab;e input is direct into a Vizio 55 inch smart tv. An HDMI output runs to a Onkyo TX-NR626 receiver. The Onkyo drives a 5.1 surround sound system. The speakers (mainly the middle front) give out a distorted sound when the volume is above low-medium. There are two volume controls, one on the Vizio and the second on the Onkyo.that I have tried to balance with no luck. Can you help?

I also want to be able to use it with my tv to eatch netflix, and commect my pc and play in 4k 120hz (is this even possible? I can do it on my oled but do recievers have hdmi 2.1 or 2.1 passthrough?)
2: these speakers, are they a good combo? I want the best speakers in that series, and i don't know how to tell them all apart. I know the rp 280f are the best (in this particular lineup) ut i have no idea about the other speakers.

One thing about HDMI audio extractors and movie surround sound success on old receivers is it will depend on if your receiver is new enough to decode the newer surround sound bitstreams the streaming services use.
I have an old Yamaha RX-V3000 AV receiver from 2001 that sounds great, but has no HDMI inputs and wanted to watch 5.1 Dolby Digital surround sound movies streamed from our Roku box, which has no Digital Audio output required for the receiver to produce the surround sound. So I bought a HDMI stripper box like you mentioned. It worked great for a couple years and was able to enjoy full 5.1 channel surround sound for movies, but eventually all the streaming providers stopped streaming movies with an audio bitstream codec that my old receiver could decode. So now instead of getting full Dolby Digital or DTS 5.1 channel surround sound, I get 3.1 Dolby Pro Logic. Very disappointing

Hey there. 👋 I have pretty much the same amp as you. I have an older model TV 2007 so we connect our laptop to the TV via hdmi to watch netflix etc. How should I connect to the amp to send the sound to the 5.1 and still get the image on the TV please?? Do I/can I set the amp to receive from each of the numbered hdmi inputs specifically via the remote?? Many thanks in advance. Fred

My Panasonic Viera is set up the way you showed, and I still get no volume through my Onkyo. It all plays through my Echo Dot Gen 5. I have no idea what to do now.

Hi, I’m having issues and hope you can help. I have a Samsung TV and Onkyo NR5100. It can hear almost everything except my cable (directv genie). The tv guy hooked the hdmi from the cable box to the tv and a separate hdmi and optical cable from the receiver to the TV. We are connected in HDMI4/ ARC and HDMI 1. On the receiver it’s in the main out HMDI. Why can’t I hear my tv cable?

I have an Onkyo HT-640 Receiver and a Sony XBR-65X850D TV. I am hooking a Chromecast to the HDMI In and running an HDMI Cable to the HDMI ARC connection but I get no video or audio now. Is there a setting I need to change in the Onkyo in order to get video and sound?

I have an old KR-830 audio receiver that I'd like to hook to my Samsung 4k TV. I don't have HDMI on the back of the receiver though. Would I need to not something to make it work?
