Great video.....thanks. Question......If I already have my Receiver connected to my Smart TV, using a optical cord, do I still need to hook up the Composite cables for Audio?
Why didn't you plug the plugs into the back of the receiver where it showed "TV IN" from the HDMI converter. I noticed you put it into the game ports. I want the sound coming from the TV into my receiver then out of my speakers. Just curious...
I was just curious about something that maybe you could help me with. I purchased a high end Yamaha receiver back in the days of the HD DVD and PS3. I am not sure how long ago that was but it was a long time ago. Anyway, I still have the receiver and I use it all the timebecause it has amazing sound. I recently purchased a 4k 120hz 65" TV and want to take advantage of all the new technology on the TV. The speakers on the TV sound ok but not what I am used to. From what I understand the optical cable is limiting what my receiver can do with the information it is receiving from my TV. The first part of my question is that for some reason I can't get my receiver to work without using an optical cable. I really don't understand why this is. I have tried everything I can think of in the settings of the TV and the receiver but can't seem to fix the problem. I have two HDMI inputs in my receiver and one HDMI output. The TV has one normal HDMI input I think and four 4k HDMI inputs. The second part of my question is should I hook all of my other components like my PS4, laptop, PS3 etc directly into the TV and then down to my receiver or from the receiver to the TV? Also does it matter what type of HDMI cables I use? The receiver has all the bells and whistles that were out at the time so 10.2 surround, THX, DTS, etc.
Please help I have an older Klipsch HD Theater 300 will a Pyle PFA560BT (100 watts) have enough power to run all the speakers ? Or 5x20watt be enough for the speakers. Speakers are rated at 100watts and the Pyle PFA560BT has a sub out plus two HDMI in and one out
Ok I got a new Samsung TV with all hdmi ports 2.1 120hz and I have a ps5 and a xbox series x. But my reciever is a Onkyo Tx-Rz900 and does not have a arc hdmi port. Is it possible to still use my e-arc from my TV to my reciever ? I don't wanna lose picture quality but I want the sound to go thru my reciever .
Knock knock. I could really use some help on a Saturday. Bought an HDMI audio converter. Trying to hook up tv to Acurus A110 preamp. I looked at the product you linked and it says it will NOT send audio. I bought the same thing from Avedio. Do you have to have a convertor that says ARC to be able to send sound from tv to stereo? That's what I'm trying to do and I got zip so far. Cheers and thanks.
Finally got a ps5... went to hook up and our receiver is an older yamaha with no hdmi... can I run hdmi to our Tv (old but great picture DLP) then run an optic from the tv to the receiver?
Hi there....I have a Panasonic VCR/DVD combo....will this run a fire stick? I have HDMI to RCA converter...but it only has output. Wondering if I need one with input also. Thank you so much
Just got new cable installed. Which is Wireless. It's a white box on the floor with a HDMI cable into the HDMI-ARC location on the TV. It now cuts out my Onkyo Receiver and my Bluray DVD player. In addition my surround speakers are also out of the loop. How do I hook up this system so my Receiver, Bluray and speakers are all working when I put the TV on? I assume the HDMI coming out of the white cable supply box would be needed to be plugged into the receiver for starters? Without executing a move like that there would be no hope of getting the sound on the TV to come out of my speakers.
@@ReviewKingHQ Right on. I managed to figure it out, I sat there looking at everything and came up with a plan. Took the HDMI cable out of the ARC position in the back of the TV. That HDMI comes out of the cable box and I plugged it into the HDMI receptacle in back of the Onkyo Receiver into the position that says something like SAT/CBL I think. Plugged the HDMI cable from the out location on the receiver into the ARC in back of the TV. Anyway, I played around with the remote and it suddenly came on. Got my surround speakers all on. And now I also have the volume. I just have some other problems with this new cable hook up. It's because I changing service companies from BELL to Rogers. But now my phone does not have call ident. I don't know if my voice mail is working. And the other problem is when I disconnect the Bell box I don't have any internet signal with Rogers. I'm going to have to call Rogers back. Thanks for getting back to me.
Hi , enjoyed ur clip, and was wondering if u could help me with a issue I have. Ok I have a older 5.1 av receiver it has no hdmi and no optical fibre inputs only rca. I hav a Panasonic plasma tv which has optical fibre connection and 3 hdmi sockets and rca Finally I have a Samsung bluray which has optical fibre hdmi and rca. sound system works for the TV , and the player, but not wen the discs are bluray... Cd audio no problem, movies no problem, but nothing on bluray audio discs or movies. My set up is a hdmi cable bluray to TV And red and white rca from the receiver aux into the TV aux or none I think 🤔 I'm thinking that their must be a combination that would work. I have a av converter, but I have not tried it as yet. Also with the converter, does it have to be a red and white in only not a red white and yellow in. Anyways let me know what you think 🤔 cheers Colin from Lexton Victoria Australia 🇦🇺

Then HDMI Out from Cable box to TV HDMI? Any best practices are appreciated!

Hi, I’d be very grateful for help. I want to buy an amp and speakers to play music and watch TV but don’t know if I can output sound. Hello I have a question... I have a receiver that is connected to my Samsung smart TV via bluetooth. The system is 600W and is connected to Z5500 speakers, when using the FM radio it is so loud I can't even put it past 15 or the walls crack, ( I have an old school sub on it which is 400rms ) the odd thing, when I listen to the TV through the system I have to crank it to the max volume of 30 for it to even be somewhat enjoyable. Why is the volume so degraded when using the TV next to the radio? Do you think if I used the audio rca inserts to the TV hdmi it will sound louder? Love to hear your professional opinion. Thank you
You can try some different options for wiring to see if the signals change the levels. It’s the same with mine the FM is really loud. I’m not sure if there’s a way to change that.

Hello Review King I posted yesterday about my Onkyo Receiver and had a chat with the tech support of Onkyo as well. I was asked to use a SPDIF connection to connect tv to the receiver. Well, the sound did pass through but for 5.1 Dolby no voice came through (the center channel did not put out the sound). Regular video were OK for sound. 5,1 surround testing videos (with music) were also OK playing on the surround system connected to the receiver. The HDMI from the cd changer to the receiver looks to be a bust. I tried to convert the Component to HDMi and still no luck. What can I do to get the surround sound from TV to the surround system connected to the Onkyo receiver? Can I extract ARC signal into a SPDIF signal? Will that also lose the voice signals as with the direct SPDIF connection I tried? Thanks.
I have the same Onkyo receiver that you have in this video. Just got the new Xbox Series X and it requires HDMI CEC in order to turn the tv and receiver on and off. Any advice on how to make this work?
I figured it out.
Explanation clear and sufficient🌹✌🏽
Thank you this was very helpful
Yes you can
Thank you!!! Same problem I have
Hi there....I have a Panasonic VCR/DVD combo....will this run a fire stick? I have HDMI to RCA converter...but it only has output. Wondering if I need one with input also. Thank you so much
Explain you setup again. Fire stick to vcr/dvd to tv?
Just got new cable installed. Which is Wireless. It's a white box on the floor with a HDMI cable into the HDMI-ARC location on the TV. It now cuts out my Onkyo Receiver and my Bluray DVD player. In addition my surround speakers are also out of the loop. How do I hook up this system so my Receiver, Bluray and speakers are all working when I put the TV on? I assume the HDMI coming out of the white cable supply box would be needed to be plugged into the receiver for starters? Without executing a move like that there would be no hope of getting the sound on the TV to come out of my speakers.
Yes that’s right you need to go through receiver or you ca. use HDMI arc to go from tv back to receiver and USA another input for white box.
Thanks a lot for the vid, waiting for the device to arrive I can’t wait to see if my problem is solved
Hi! I have a question, Can I send only the audio from my TV to a speakers with this conector?
@@ReviewKingHQ it's a Samsung Smart tv
You would need powered speakers or an amp you can’t send it directly to speakers.
What do I need to go from hdmi arc (laser tv) to receiver L and R will this work as well thx .
Hi , enjoyed ur clip, and was wondering if u could help me with a issue I have.
Ok I have a older 5.1 av receiver it has no hdmi and no optical fibre inputs only rca.
I hav a Panasonic plasma tv which has optical fibre connection and 3 hdmi sockets and rca
Finally I have a Samsung bluray which has optical fibre hdmi and rca.
sound system works for the TV , and the player, but not wen the discs are bluray...
Cd audio no problem, movies no problem, but nothing on bluray audio discs or movies.
My set up is a hdmi cable bluray to TV
And red and white rca from the receiver aux into the TV aux or none I think 🤔
I'm thinking that their must be a combination that would work.
I have a av converter, but I have not tried it as yet.
Also with the converter, does it have to be a red and white in only not a red white and yellow in.
Anyways let me know what you think 🤔 cheers Colin from Lexton Victoria Australia 🇦🇺
You would need the hdmi extractor and run the RCA for receiver from that
I really enjoy my old Yamaha receiver. I want to connect with a new smart Samsung tv. Can I use the extractor used in your video? Please explain what connects from the receiver to extractor. The TV has no RCA connectors and the receiver has no HDMI ports. Thanks!
What about the optical cable? My receiver/amplifier is Dolby digital with an optical cable but no HDMI. What then? well I still have to get that descrambler unit? Also whether or not I need a scrambler are there any unique settings on my new TCL 5 smart TV that will help (better) mesh the old receiver speakers with the new TV picture timing? If at all necessary... thank you.
any recommendations for receiver with HDMI but no gaming or cable boxes? Just direct smart TV to receiver. Optical wire does not seem to work on older receiver. Optical works fine from smart tv to a newer surround system.
Do you have hdmi arc on your tv?
Thanks for the video. I have an Onkyo TX-SR503 receiver with no HDMI ports. The receiver is fully connected to a surround sound setup, but due to a new cable box with only HDM in & Out the HDMI from the cable box is going only to the TV. What is the best option to connect the receiver to the cable box and then to the TV? Component or RCA from receiver to converter and then HDMI from converter to cable box? Then HDMI Out from Cable box to TV HDMI? Any best practices are appreciated!
Yes you are exactly right. Optical from the convertor to stereo for full surround sound.
I don't see the link to the device you are referring to. What is it called?
Its called an HDMI audio extractor.>>> a.co/d/e4q3LWm
Will that HDMI audio extractor work with the HDMI ARC input from my TV?
I have a Pioneer SX780 ( 1978 ) completely redone - new caps, pots, LEDs, and wood case is new - a flawless vintage unit. How can I hook up a new 75" LG to my vintage gear, if possible? Thanks for any info you can share.
Hi I just recently got an old receiver and I watched ur video on setting it up but its not working. Wondered if you are able to help me out i have a Sony STR-K5800P which i connected using rca cables on the receiver Input in and connected to hdmi audio extractor and then connected hdmi out to tv on the extractor and connected hdmi in to the device, i get picture and everything but no audio to my receiver
Hmm seems like you have it installed correctly. Double check settings on the stereo. Speakers a+b and also check the input settings.
@ReviewKingHQ i did , i ended up using an optical and that worked great
Hi, I’d be very grateful for help. I want to buy an amp and speakers to play music and watch TV but don’t know if I can output sound. I could buy an amp with HDMI ARC, but my TV does not have HDMI ARC labeled. It has 3 HDMI ports, so I assume it isn’t compatible. There is no optical cable out. There are 2 sets of yellow/white/red RCA ports, but it isn’t labeled as input or output, so I don’t know which they are. It’s a Chinese indestructible TV. There is no manual. Do you think I will be able to get this to work as I want it? Thanks… I really need help.
You will have to use the audio extractor device to get the audio.
Thanks a lot for your reply. I've seen 2 devices that might work. One is a USB into a box with an Optical port. The other is HDMI into a box with an optical port. Is this what you mean by an ~audio extractor device" Sorry, I may have understood wrong. @@ReviewKingHQ
Exactly what I needed...thanks!!
I am looking for something like the hdmi audio extractor, but one which will keep the audio in yhe hdmi out, as sometimes I watch tv wiyhout surround. Any idea? Thanks
I will still work as normal if not using the extractor
Thanks for your video. Does this device work for a turn table with RC cables? Also can I use a multi USB plug to plug in more than one of the devices?
And the link for the plug one does not work.

Need some help please. Got the hubs an Onkyo TX-ST393 for an upgrade for his 20 year old surround sound. I have the speaker connected, went optical route cause I wasn’t sure I had enough HDMI outlets. Found out I do have 3 HDMI’s, so figured I might change to the ARC outlet on tv and Onkyo. I could never get the start up wizard going and every time I turn it on I get Initial Setup. Am I going in the right direction? How to get rid of setup screen on Onkyo.
You get the startup screen on the receiver every time you start it ? Like it’s brand new? Do you have your tv setup for hdmi arc in the settings?
So so helpful! Thank you!
Hi just watch your video. So informative. I want to ask some question bout my unit. Thanks !
I have a Sony HDMI arc I wanted to go to my old fashion receiver that are RCA plugs so it would come out of their speakers and receiver speakers with this unit you’re talking about will I do it
I need some specific advice. I am suffereing fromo 5.1 speaker distortion. Is there a way that we can communicate to get your help? In summary my situation is this. The cab;e input is direct into a Vizio 55 inch smart tv. An HDMI output runs to a Onkyo TX-NR626 receiver. The Onkyo drives a 5.1 surround sound system. The speakers (mainly the middle front) give out a distorted sound when the volume is above low-medium. There are two volume controls, one on the Vizio and the second on the Onkyo.that I have tried to balance with no luck. Can you help?
I thought you said that you were going to hook it to your TV once you start putting all the inputs and you went to a Chromecast where do you hook your HDMI into the television
How can I get my sound bar to connect to TV with Roku plugged into one port, and PS5 into the other? I only have two HDMI ports and I can't figure out how to get my soundbar to function while using both of them. Any advice?
I have an old onkyo htr6130. How do I set up my surround sound with the controller? Been a long time and lost the manual

Hi please let me know if I got this right cable box into the receiver then out of the receiver to the tv but what if I’m streaming from the tv directly
If you are streaming from the tv you need to use HDMI arc from the tv to stereo.
Looking for the link for the little conversion box.
I just bought a home theater system, WITHOUT HDMI INPUT/OUTPUT, i have a built gaming computer and monitor. And a tv as a monitor and my tv DOESNT have video audio inputs, this adapter will work correct?? The review king????
Yes it will work
I had my onkyo set up like this for years but i got a new tv and xbox series x and its saying I have to go into my tv and out to the receiver for sound in order to get the 4k graphics, so now I need to reconfigure my set up.. I have my xbox running into my tv and I have this earc out. Now I have the same ports on the back as you is there anywhere I can plug this earc out cable? I have the option to run optical audio out to my receiver but if I could make this earc port work it would be a lot easier.
Yah arc from tv to input on receiver hdmi
Can i use this device, (hdmi-extender) to my sony dvd 200, disc player? The problem is the two red/wine audio jack pins broke off inside the dvd. The dvd has to hv hdmi for it to work/connect rt?
Yes
I have a laptop monitor with 2 HDMI inputs. I am only interested in getting the video from a laptop karaoke computer program to the monitor. The sound is unnecessary as it will be going from the computer program to the karaoke sound system. Do I still need to have a power source for the HDMI cable box if I’m only using the video. Another words can just hook up the HDMI to RCA yellow in video without using the power cord on the HDMI box.
I’m not 100% sure you may need the power source.
My tv has no audio out and no 3.5 mm out, just the optical cable connection and i wanna connect a mini amp to the tv but the optical cable connection is already being used. Will an optical cable splitter help to connect to the mini amp? I wanna connection crisp sounding tweeters to the mini amp.
I’m thinking that might be the best option. I can imagine the splitter may reduce the quality but maybe not. You’ll have to give it a try.
hello, im trying to connect my laptop thru hdmi to this onkyo avr, my problem is the center and two surround speakers are not playing any sound...what should i do?
Hello is there any option to just hookup this onkyo receiver direct to tv via hdmi?
HDMI arc from tv to receiver.
Hello Review King
I posted yesterday about my Onkyo Receiver and had a chat with the tech support of Onkyo as well.
Thanks.
That’s weird I’ve had voice problems from tv with hdmi as well. Do you have the option to use hdmi arc?
I have the same Onkyo receiver that you have in this video.
Just got the new Xbox Series X and it requires HDMI CEC in order to turn the tv and receiver on and off.
Any advice on how to make this work?
I’ll look into it .
I figured it out.
Here are the steps:
1- turn on the receiver and tv.
2- press “setup” on the Onkyo remote.
3- select Hardware Setup from the on screen menu.
4- select HDMI
5- turn on HDMI Control (RIHD),
My settings:
Audio Return Channel - Auto
Power Control - On
TV Control - Off
The TV also had similar features that needed to turned on as well.
Does the HDMI have to be connected or can I run HDMI out from receiver to fiber optic on my old preamp? I am not getting sound

If I switch the setup and plug in the firestick to the projector on hdmi 2, the hdr content displays properly but arc does not pass the Dolby digital plus audio to the receiver.
