    Another way to test which speaker wire is which, is to tie the two wires together on one end, and use a multimeter on the other end to test continuity.

    • @AlanCleggYouDoAV
      @AlanCleggYouDoAV  Рік тому

      True but that only works if you are absolutely sure none of the other wires are also touching each other and if the wire you’re testing is intact.

      @@AlanCleggYouDoAVYour amp is also capable of using 4mm plugs fitted to the speaker cables, this has several advantages, namely, a far safer and more reliable connection, ease of connection and disconnecting and finally far better sound quality due to a better electrical connection.

      @@jerrypartington3650 are you referring to "banana plugs?" I actually read a report where they tested the connection type in a lab with high quality equipment. It turns out that bare copper makes the best connection. For in-home systems, I'm sure the quality difference is negligible, BUT I'm too cheap to buy banana plugs for all of my wires.

      The 9 volt battery or a tone generator makes it easy to know which speaker wire you are holding. I have been using a 9 volt battery for over 30yrs to tone a speaker wire. 9 volt battery doesn't hurt any speaker. There's a big cost difference between a tone generator and any battery to pop a speaker. Hope this helps you.

    Does assignable on my AV receiver means that I can connect an external amp to the receiver? I have a Pioneer VSX-LX303 and would like to connect a cell DAC from PS Audio. Assignable is something different. I took a look at your receiver connections and you will not be able to use an external amplifier with your receiver. You need to have speaker "pre-outs" for each channel which your receiver does not have.

      You have 2 speakers in the front of the room and three in the back? In my opinion, having a center channel directly above or below the TV is critical as this is the busiest speaker in the set and should represent the sound coming out of the TV. I don't know you're setup, but you might consider getting an in-ceiling speaking speaker or something to put above your tv.

      You're on the right track! Getting specific training on programming is a little tough. Usually, those training sessions are private information and people are not very willing to share it. I have given a little thought on sharing how to program a remote, but viewers will not be able to get the software so it's almost useless to do I think.

    I need some assistance. I have cable box and a Roku, should both connect through the receiver first. But, when we want to just watch news or a TV show without going through all of our speakers how would we make this connection? We’d just like to use the TV’s speakers for news programs and regular TV shows. And is it possible to set up the receiver so that when we turn on the Roku box it “triggers” the receiver to come on automatically? Our receiver is a Marantz SR5010. Thx

    • @AlanCleggYouDoAV
      @AlanCleggYouDoAV  Рік тому

      I do not know much about that receiver, but some features have a feature that allows you to watch a program using the TV speakers when the receiver is off. My Yamaha calls this audio pass-through or something like that. You can setup your receiver to turn on when the Roku turns on by enabling "ARC" but I hate ARC and do not recommend using it

    I honestly hate ARC as well. ARC is perfectly fine for a basic system I wouldn't advise it with Samsung brand TVs. They work fine for a while then just drops out. I typically use a Toslink cable for the audio from the TV to the receiver. I typically enable ARC but disable the CEC option if I can with other brand TVs. I always recommend to the customer to get a Roku, Firestick or AppleTV.

    I have a Denon 970H and a LG OLED C2 with E-arc. Also 7 surround sound Bose speakers. What's wrong with plugging in the HDMI cable into the E-arc ports on my TV and receiver?? How is it screwy?

    • @AlanCleggYouDoAV
      @AlanCleggYouDoAV  Рік тому

      For example, my bro-in-law just set up a single room home theater and enabled ARC. While programming the remote, we found the system kept turning itself on and off when we were switching inputs. ARC is screwy. It works most of the time, but working most of the time is not an option as a pro installer.

      @@AlanCleggYouDoAV gotcha. Thanks for responding. I have one last question. I'm going to plug in an HDMI cable into eARC port in my LG OLED C2 TV and then the other end into the eARC port in the back of the Denon 970H receiver. The Bose speakers will be wired in like you showed in your video in the terminals in the back of the receiver. Would this be an optimal way to set up my home theater system? Do you know of any issues that would occur with this set up? Also should I plug my PS5 into the back of the receiver or TV? Will the LG C2 and the Denon receiver support and have Dolby Atmos audio quality with my 7.1 built in wall Bose speakers?

    • @AlanCleggYouDoAV
      @AlanCleggYouDoAV  Рік тому

      @@andrewlindell8626 Are the Bose speakers designed to be wired to the subwoofer? If they are, you should wire them to the subwoofer then wire the subwoofer to the receiver as Bose intended (it's one of their weird styles). Otherwise, wiring them directly to the receiver is best. All of your source components (PS5, blu-ray, etc) should wire to the receiver, NOT the TV. Like I say in the video, ARC is weird on the control side and I do not believe ARC can handle all the modern sound formats.

      Possible but more likely that a setting is messed up. You should start by investigating to see which audio format each mode is using. It may require some investigation in the settings menu or hard-staring at the display panel for details that aren't readily seen (like small words that appear in the different modes).
