DJI Mini 3 Pro || Obstacle Avoidance

- What happens on a RTH and the DJI Mini 3 Pro flies towards a big obstacle? Will the Obstacle Avoidance kick in automatically? Or does the DJI Mini 3 Pro Obstacle Avoidance only work when the drown is being controlled by the pilot?
Here I test out the DJI Mini 3 Pro Obstacle Avoidance during a RTH flight to see what will happen when the DJI Mini 3 Pro is faced with a huge obstacle on the journey home!
If you decide to buy the DJI Mini 3 Pro, I'd very much appreciate it if you use my Amazon shop in the description here. It won't cost you a penny extra, but I'll get a little tiny wee commission and thus, you'll be supporting me to continue to make videos about the DJI Mini 2, DJI Mini 3 and DJI FPV. And of course you'll continue to see the sights around Scotland! :)
If you'd like to support me to get out and about more and visit more of Scotland with Lassie, Laddie and Caledonia - my DJI Mini 2, DJI Mini 3 Pro and DJI FPV drones, you could always stick some fuel in my tank using this link. And it is very much appreciated!

You’re a brave man Robert! Made my backside go half crown tanner!!🙈🙈🙈🙈❤️
Whew! That was close. I think I need to do my laundry.😉🤣
Me too!
Always good to know obstical avoidance works and RTH height is just a minimum height
That return to home always amazes me
It's Star Trekian technology!
Simply locks home point in onboard GPS.@@WindsweptRobert
Enjoyable and interesting vid Robert, thank you 🙂
Thanks, Alan. Like I said in the video, I was pretty sure the OA would work on RTH, but I had not seen anyone ever show a flight where it showed this happening. And you know me - I NEED to know ;)
Absolutely fantastic. Always fascinates me.😳
Thanks
Fair Play mate 👍
Nicely done
Thank you Jesus
Your a brave man Robert😄
Sometimes, I just NEED to know!
Thanks for another important learning experience, Robert! Mini 3 Pro owners now can feel a bit more comfortable with obstacle avoidance!
Glad to help!
Good video Robert
Thanks, Lyn
I love these type of videos Robert, you do all the dangerous stuff so we don't have to 😉😁
This one certainly had my heart pumping!
I remember someone saying "the good lord takes care of fools and little children". It appears he does the same for their drones as well. 🤣 Great video, see you in the livestream later.
Good point LOL!
Awesome test there :)
Thanks! :)
You do the tests that no one else will, Robert! Took the Mini 2 out today for some fun, the first time I could fly in 80F in a long while over here in TX... As we all know, it is still an amazing drone. I am sure Lassie is thinking 'big deal' Caledonia, try returning home in the middle of a snow/hail storm...
Lassie would probably shrug and think; "I'd just have flown thru the gaps".
As she has done before!@@WindsweptRobert
Soooooo close, lol I guess that gives us more confidence flying the mini 3 pro drone. Great video as usual Robert 😁 👌 👍 🇬🇧
So close!
Its a clever little thing
Almost like a scifi droid!
Amazing mate 😂😅😅😅😅
Thanks 😆
I have always wondered what happens in that scenario
And now you know ;)
Robert, thank you so much for answering my question. I had a DJI Phantom ( years ago ) and the info given by DJI at the time was to set the RTH height higher than surrounding buildings, because it would crash into them.
Well, we can see here that the technology has advanced :) Thanks for the question, John, although I was pretty nervous to do this test!
That is just common sense surely ?
@paul-nx7yc obstacle avoidance wasn't built into the older drones. You had to set the RTH height higher than the highest obstruction around you. ( not exactly easy to guess the height of a tree/ building a hundred metres away )
Yes I know that. I have been flying drones for 10 years in Australia and I suppose I am spoiled with the wide open spaces. The nearest cops are 150 kms away. @@johnburns5783
That was an interesting video, even got me wondering what the results would be. 👍
You and me both!
Thanks Rob, great video, interesting to know. I am not that brave
Neither am I, Mark. Ma heart was in ma throat!
That was a close call 😅
Very!
Thats was bl**dy close!!
oooooh! gave us all a scare!!!! : :D :D :D
Me too!
😍😍👍
is that the same a frame that used to stick oot the top of a huge steel n glass pit building??? used to pass it on way to cumnock in the early 60s!!! - i knew about the rth height would stay at whatever if above set height but not if the oa would be good enough - helluva thing to pile into if the avoidance software wasnt up to the job!!!
We took the shot!
Robert... do you have experience with three bladed props for the DJI mini 2 and further up the numbers... and are the any good regarding sound ,speed and batterytime...
I've used the Master Screw props, Peter, but those are twin blades. I've never tried the triple bladed props.
Changing the subject, if I use Dji Fly FCC mode and shut down regular Dji Fly that runs in the background, will the FCC mode work with Maven to get the same range?
I hope that made sense lmao 😂
Yes :)
Why did I close my eyes when she was set to return home and flew close to the obstacle?
I almost did too!
Would it do the same if you had Brake set instead of Bypass?
Not sure....test it and let us know! :)
so we learned that RTH height is the minimum height DJI drones return at, I think. Wondered that for a while.
Aye. I have tested in a couple of videos what happens if the RTH is set to 20m and the drone is flying LOWER than that. But this is the first time I've tested what the drone does if it is HIGHER than that, and it's the first time I've tested the OA on a RTH. I was pretty sure it would work, but still had my heart in my mouth in case it didn't!
@@WindsweptRobert good to know.
New pants please 😅
I thought she was going to hit the very top crossbeam!
Now make more vids to show us some of the alternative scenarios you mentioned. Putting trust solely in Electronics is always a crap shoot.
I don't have a building tall enough anywhere near me.
You make videos about features of these drones that everyone already knows.
Thanks for commenting, it’s great that you’re so interested in my videos and livestreams 😁
When you post on a public forum not every one is going to agree with you . And having a UA-cam channel and a few fawning admirers doesn't put you above the law.@@WindsweptRobert
You throw all your toys out of the cot because of a police visit. A wee scotty with a chip on both shoulders thinks he is above the law. @@WindsweptRobert
