  • One of the best things about the DJI Mini 3 Pro is that it is a FUN little drone, maybe the ULTIMATE Fun Drone! You're just MEANT to have fun with it :)
    Although this is a 'test' type of video, I still had great fun on our day out with Caledonia, my DJI Mini 3 Pro. In this video I will test to see if the drone can be turned on and connected to a controller from over a kilometre away!
    If you'd like to support me to get out and about more and visit more of Scotland with Lassie, Laddie and Caledonia - my DJI Mini 2, DJI Mini 3 Pro and DJI FPV drones, you could always stick some fuel in my tank using this link. And it is very much appreciated!

    Looking a bit chilly on the Ayrshire coast! Surely just getting a fair connection's all the proof o' the pudden you need..? As long as you have an uninterrupted signal pathway then flight should be possible if a reliable connection is established, and with increasing altitude after takeoff the connection should stabilise moreso. My old Mavic Air (enhanced WiFi only) lets me select either 2.4ghz or 5.8 bands but my new mini2 seems to share transmissions straddled between the two bands - so far I haven't tried to override that. If these mini drones allow you to select a preferred band, then I think you'll find that 2.4 will almost certainly carry farther than 5.8. The higher the frequency the easier it is for it to get attenuated by increasing distance - or transmit pathway obstructions. Plus - I think that the CE transmit power in the higher band is reduced from that of the lower 2.4 freq, Hope this helps with these experiments?

    • @WindsweptRobert
      @WindsweptRobert  10 місяців тому

      Aye, getting the connection is all the proof, but I needed to fly to see just how far away I was! :)
      Interesting thoughts about the 2 diff frequencies. There could be a couple of tests in there!

    This was brilliant Robert! You took what would usually just be a "Test" - turned it into a fun "what if", a "then" and a "let's see" for which "we came", and "we saw", and "we found out" and ultimately, now "we know" to which I say:
    "Thanks'

    In the pub, watching the football, pint of Proper Job IPA and a Windswept video at half time. Bliss 😁. I intend to do a similar test myself Robert but at 3.5 km. Even with my grandsons eyesight, that might be a homepoint too far for CE mode. Good timing, now back to Everton for the second half. Well done, see you for the livestream later.

    Excellent test Robert and great control in landing on that rock.
    I’m curious now….bit of a “what if” moment……….what would happen if your friend wasn’t there…….say you flew the mini 3 away from you, say, one kilometre, and you landed the drone somewhere you could see was safe. Land it, stop the motors, but, leave the drone switched on. Left it for ten minutes in that position, then, sticks down and in to activate the motors, then take off and return to your position. Would that work, or would you overheat the on board sensors. It could be a great way of landing to a place…say, a fox den, and waiting for the fox to come out and you could film it up close. Then take off when finished filming. Just a thought. Enjoy your vlogs, stay safe up there…..winters coming !

    That was a good test Robert, I don't think it would work from my back garden though with all the Wi-Fi signal interference and buildings blocking the single, because sometimes I can lose signal at just 600ft away. Maybe you could do the test again around buildings not in a straight line. All though it might work with the Air3 around buildings the single on that drone is amazing. Keep up the good work buddy. :)

    Well done Robert that was a nice test but on a beach and in plain view of the take-off position of the drone and very little interferance, wonder how far with the normal RC Controller and in a built-up area with Wi-Fi interference you would manage then, but nice test all the same Robert, regards TJK UK.

    (i still didn't buy one of these) i had the idea of placing a drone on a boulder before the day's hiking section on a multi day trip, leaving it on, flying the drone to me, and repeating the same for days. this way i could have the entire aerial footage for the trip i'm doing. (a day's worth of hiking should be what, 10 minutes of flying?) should be quite fun to narrate after a trip, pointing interesting things out on the ground. i'd just be worried whether the flight controller overheats after hours of no airflow around it

    • @WindsweptRobert
      @WindsweptRobert  10 місяців тому +1

      What you'd have to be more concerned about is the battery running down if you've switched it on and it's just sitting there all day. Also, the mini 3 Pro tends to auto shutdown after about 5 mins if it's not flying to prevent it from overheating.
      A better way might be to just use the active track to follow you as you hike, and have a mic recorder on your body where you narrate a bit as you hike. You can then add that narration in with additional voice-over if required when you come to edit :)

    • @markifi
      @markifi 10 місяців тому

      ah i see thank you for the suggestion@@WindsweptRobert maybe with a purpose built quadcopter. the hikes take much too long themselves and while snippets might be nice, the draw of the idea for me is uncut aerial footage of dozens of kilometres at a time.

      A thousand meters down the sandy shore,
      Caledonia, the drone, began to soar,
      A tiny marvel, in the sky it gleamed,
      A wondrous machine, like a dream it seemed.
      Switched on remotely, its engines whirred,
      As it embarked on a mission, undisturbed,
      A sleek little mini, with propellers that spun,
      Caledonia set off to meet Robert, her only one.
      Above the rolling waves, it gracefully danced,
      With precision and grace, it advanced,
      A sentinel of the air, a silent sentinel of the sea,
      Caledonia soared, feeling wild and free.
      Along the beachfront, where the seagulls cried,
      Caledonia on her journey, she did confide,
      To reunite with Robert, her destination clear,
      Guided by technology, without a trace of fear.
      Through azure skies, she traversed with grace,
      Covering the distance at her own pace,
      A thousand meters, a bridge to be crossed,
      To be with her beloved, no matter the cost.
      In this digital age, love knows no bounds,
      As Caledonia flew with barely a sound,
      To Robert, her pilot, waiting with delight,
      Their reunion, a spectacle, under the daylight.
      A thousand meters away, their hearts did beat,
      Caledonia and Robert, a connection sweet,
      In the world of drones and technology's art,
      Love finds a way to bind, never to depart.@@WindsweptRobert
