I bought my second brand new carb replaced it cus I thought the other one was flawed and it also keep flooding out after 4 minutes of running
I've replaced those diaphragms that were to the point that they crumbled! It's a wonder the engine ran as long as it did. Another top-notch video Don, thanks for sharing it with us! Rev. D.
thanks brother
Just a week ago I got a "rescue trimmer" given to me because it was running gas out the muffler. (FS 55 K). I got the power head, trimmer head, blower, and edger attachments for free. Not knowing that it probably was just the diaphragm, I bought a Oregon brand complete kit and cleaned the carb and it runs like new. I rarely have to buy any outdoor equipment as it is usually given to me or I see it on the side of the road waiting to go to the landfill. Thanks for the very good info on this problem and the advice on the needle arm setting.
I don't normally comment, but because you've taken the time to clearly show everything, explain the step-by-step process and also the REASONS WHY each step is necessary, which has also given me insight how it all works, you've just earned yourself a subscriber.
Thank you for this video. Extremely helpful and well done.
Thank you for sharing your knowledge. Another easy to follow video.
Great insight. Thanks for this video. I had a Hitachi leaf blower that also had a stiff metering diaphragm that would flood very easily. I ordered a new carburetor and came across this video. I was inspired to actually bent the metering lever down slightly. I had nothing to lose since I have a new carb on the way. When I reassembled the old carb, it worked like a champ. Cold starts too. Thanks!
Great tip Don. Crazy how fast we forget about the simple fixes!
Thanks for the video donyboy73. Knowing about the gasket going on first before the diaphragm is something I would have not payed attention too. I'm going to be doing some work on my STIHL weedeater soon. Thanks again.
Love when you work on Stihl. I'm currently going to swap out the carb on my km56rc. Great video Don 👍🏻
Great tip Dony! I guess having ethanol in the gas has something to with that. I would just replace everything at that point, easy and cheap enough. Thanks! 👍👍. Have a great weekend.
Brilliant video, liked the tip about the different metal centre rings on the diaphragm. Like the Wiha OEM Stihl T-handle 8mm nut driver too.
Great information, thank you for sharing!!
Its always good to sit with a coffee and clean hands in the study and watch you showing what I need to be doing out in the shed when I finish the coffee.... You give the preview and we go out and do the same as you've shown... Excellent videos as always. Thank you.
Just a tip I'd like to share with people. I do this every season and especially with the line trimmer. I remove the exhaust system, burn it in a wood fire until its red and then blow it out and put it back on with a new gasket. The very first step when I have starting and 'bogging' problems and it fixes them every time.
Good idea. They get clogged with oil from the fuel and the engine can't breath.
Great idea. Thank you I'll try that
@@steveheas7954 'Sealed units' choke with carbon and no amount of banging gets them clean. Burning certainly does.
Enjoyed , great tips on different metering types .
love your videos by the way you are very good at your craft.its almost art sometimes figuring it out
Hey Don
Another great tip.
I had an FS40 last week where the low speed screw was very difficult to adjust and the high speed screw had no adjustment whatsoever. Turned it in nothing, out nothing. The diaphragm was hard too. Instead of rebuilding I replaced the carb. However, the OEM carbs from my local dealer last year were $65 Can, this year, $94. Should I have tried to clean and rebuild?
I haven’t had much luck with carb kits and don’t like to buy Chinese.
Cheers
Great, thanks. This was very helpful, and will help me get my trimmer up and running. Cheers
Wow i had a chinese brush cutter which I love..and was always flooded..followed your steps and changed the diafram and walllaaaaa worked wonders
Thanks Dony, I have to remember that tip as I may have such a problem on one of my trimmers and it needing a new kit installed on it.
Good tip Don. Thank you very much.
As a general rule any more, I replace the entire carburetor depending on model. I like to replace the primer bulb if it's cloudy as that is important to see if air is also entering the system. These days, 90% of what I fix is fuel related anyways.
Time to fix my two that have the same issue
90 percent of the time I don't bother to repair the carbs, I just replace them as well. I use the Chinese knockoffs when the machine is budget grade consumer level equipment.
As always...very informative video.
Another great vid. Good tips. Thank you
great info, thanks
top stuff Donny mate cheers from Australia to Canada and Stay Safe to and i have a Stihl FS 55 RC and it,s very similar to this one to but just the next model up from my view.
Thanks man for a usefull tutorial.
Great video and advice, many thanks 👍👌👏
thanks for the video donnyboy about do a full rebuild on my 16 year old echo srm2305 carburetor & new fuel lines thought was time to give it some luv seem its done me well for 16 years with out any major dramas other than my time to service it
Really good video Don!!!
I had to tap the like button a bunch of times for this video because it kept highlighting the thumbs down instead but finally got the thumbs up. Hope that doesnt screw up ur stats.
What the difference between an fs 55 & an fs 55R? I have the fs 55R and stihl dealer seemed puzzled by that.
This video will help lots of people
Yes sir 👍🤝
Brilliant video merci!
Great info Don!
Small 2-Cycle engines are the bane of my existence. :)
me too!
Thanks Don. Any 2 stroke advice is welcome.
Another great video and shows a pretty common issue that I see.
First: I'm not a professional repair guy like "donyboy73" here. However, I do work on a lot of these little machines and have come to MY OWN separate CONCLUSION that the Ethanol Gas they sell today has a lot of BAD REPERCUSSIONS for these little guys parts. I really didn't see a lot of these diaphragms go HARD like this until people started using the Ethanol Gas.
INTERESTING NOTE: I forgot about a 5 gallon can of Ethanol Gas for a couple of years and when I found it I could see two different layers thru the side so without moving it I dipped a rag down and the top layer was just pure water. It had separated and was now on top of some rank gas but this find was an eye opener for sure...Just sharing what I found.
I suggest taking the time to find Ethanol FREE gas and using the MID Grade or even Premium and only mixing up enough for a few months worth. Actually these 2 cycle manufacturers suggest a min of 89oct and Ethanol FREE for the pre-mix for their engine.
JUST My opinion...
Maybe that's my problem. I used to take care of my lawn before ethanol gas came along and hardly had any problem. Then I decided to get new equipment and start doing my lawn again, and a year later I'm having trouble with the trimmer.
As always. Nice one.
Great video as always!
Another great video. Thanks Don!
thanks Chuck!
Thanks for the info Dony. I have a Ryobi string trimmer that always seems to be flooded. Maybe you found the problem for me. I will check it out.
Great. Thank you.
Excellent video as always
You are the best 😊 this helped so much
Great 👍 job Don thank you 🙏 for all your knowledge in this industry have a good 👍 weekend sir 😆😆
thanks
Good job
No long winded intro and sub and like and stuff! You've earned a subscription even if this is the only vid I watch. Doubt it though, got an idea you're gonna have the info I need to repair a petrol generator.
thanks
Thanks Donyboy.
Great info thanks
Very nice!
Thank You
Great tip. It would help to know how you determined that it is flooding. Thanks.
On my brothers Honda GX35 line trimmer it had the opposite effect because it was running lean so maybe not enough fuel was entering the fuel chamber,I don't know.
The metering diaphragm was petrified but it wasn't letting enough fuel enter the fuel chamber in the carburetor, maybe it was actually a bit bulged.
A leaking main jet check valve will also cause flooding & the engine will also bog down as well.
On some carburetors they also have hidden fuel mixture adjustment screws !
You have the best cameras on UA-cam
Very good info.
Thank you donny
Sometimes it’s the diaphragm gone hard but I could see in this particular machine the glue had let go on the welsh plug. This could cause a few different issues. If the glue jams open the needle then it will flood uncontrollably. If the the glue gets sucked into high speed main jet it will run lean and not rev up.
Also since the glue has come off welsh plug it may leak past and bypass straight into transitional ports. In that case it’s always better to fit another OEM carburettor 👍
Cheers Donny 🍻
Thank you brother
Good job. Frank
Hey, Donny, thanks for the tip. I recently replaced the carb on an FS 45 and having a problem adjusting the idle, which you, mention toward the end of this video. When you mentioned the idle adjustment with the mechanical screw, we’re you referring to the large screw in front of the fuel tank which does adjust when throttle cable travel - my problem seems to be that the screw vibrates out of position. Thought that I’d seen one from your videos before on the carb adjustments, but can’t find it now.
I had that vibrating problem on my old br420 backpack blower thats how i bought it used so
Id set the low and high to the right spot and they kept vibrating loose the carburetor is good but something wrong with the high and low screws on the carburetor so i replaced the carburetor and put a zama one on it the original carburetor was a stihl walbro.
Im still working on the old br420 seems like it needs a new coil its got a new carburetor and it works fine but wants to keep shutting off so i think the old coil is burning out it still needs a spark arrestor put in
I thank you for the help 👍🏼
very helpful thanks
Great tip. Thank you for sharing. ❤️🇨🇦
have a good weekend Paul!
@@donyboy73 and you as well. 👍
I have an fs 38 stihl weed eater I need a kit to rebuild it what do you recommend
very nice
Dony, as always, professional and right to the point. Thanks a lot.
nicely done ,,,,,
Hey Donny, I remember when Steve's small engine did a video showing where the hidden adjusters are on carbs like that. Could it be the same for this one too? Anyway, good to see you're doing great and great vid
this carb is a little different
On a cold start is it necessary to prime my echo srm210 trimmer if the primer bulb is full?
How did or do you find the right metering diameter for your model? Say like mine is a black max 25cc?
Hey Don, nice video. I have a question. Once you you took the fuel line off, which drained the fuel from the primer bulb. Did you Prime the bulb after replacing the metering diaphragm or just started with the throttle open and choke off?
Mines an echo and its been serviced recently already like last week but the diaphram was not replaced.... and now its doing the same thing....so, is this the same issue but different part #
Hey Don do you have a video showing how and when to replace the Welch plugs? And why it seem many people don’t change them.
here is one video ua-cam.com/video/Jd7KjEo688k/v-deo.html
Thanks Donyboy73 👍🤝
You are a legend 🤠
Another great learning experience especially how to start an engine that I have flooded!
Yeah sounds like the remedy for starting our vehicles back in the 50,s that were flooded!
Need help!!! My Ryobi blower runs good at full throttle. But it turns off at idle. After that it becomes almost impossible to get it started. Any tips?
Hi Dony, my machine sat in the sun one day and there was some gas leakage. I checked the diaphram and it seems fine. With this machine a repair kit costs the price of a new machine and China does not make one. I hate to toss this one out but I have checked spark, filters, everything, it sparks like mad and even injecting some fuel I got nothing but a backfire sometimes, no firing at all. Is it possible spark timing can be out? Does the leaking fuel indicate the diaphram is definitely shot because it feels very soft and is not broken. Maybe I should bend the lever down just a tad? HELP :)
Cars I used t have with a carburetor which had flooded were easily started by mashing the accelerator to the floor while cranking the engine. Same principle.
Thanks!
Thank you for your support!
I have a Ryobi BP42 backpack blower with a new carburetor that floods if I purge/prime it at all. It’s not an OEM carburetor.
Thanks 👍🇬🇧
I had a flooding problem. Just replaced the diaphragm & gasket and now the bulb wont fill. I'm sure I have the correct diaphragm. Put the old one back and the bulb works fine. Any thoughts?
Where can I get a new ignition module for a poulan pro 6.75, i looked on amazon and couldnt find one specific for that mower ...
try your local small engine shop
I simply do not understand why they don't install bowl top carburetor on 2-engines, they always do those pesky diaphram carburetors. And all you get with that is failed diaphrams due to the ethenal in the gas, which forces us to have to buy kits all the time. That, or do what most people do, buy 15 dollar replacement carburetors off Ebay. When I bought my new Honda trimmer, I made sure to buy a complete carburetor and fuel parts replacement kit. I wanted to have all of it on hand, for when the inevitable happens. Good to see you Don, thanks for making such awesome video's!
Well saw, trimmer, blower etc carbs need to be able to be run in all positions, ie upsidedown, on there side etc. That's the unique feature these diaphragm carbs have.
Bruh. Use ethanol free gas. Will have way less probs. Also empty fuel and run till out of gas at the end of each season
Dony I changed the meter gasket the weed eater will run on idle but when I try to increase throttle it Quits, any SUGGESTIONS!!!!!
Good stuff.
thanks
Hey great work love it keep it up

@@frankdodaro2522 yes it was!
Nice video. Does Sthil make a top end kit for the FS55? I've seen kits on eBay but I've heard they're not any good.
yes they do
I have an old Stihl FS110. If the primer bulb is about 1/3 full, I depress it one time and then walk away for maybe 5-10 minutes. When I come back and do the normal start procedure, it will usually start on the first pull. Just about anything else, forget it.
My boss just threw a stilhl weedeater in garbage dumpster cause it wouldnt start he runs a bodyshop but hes 75 now and kinda dumb so i dug it of dumpster he saw me do it now he wants the blades off of it of course.its just a dirty carb he knows i coulda fixed it but refuses to pay me any money to do so.so im taking it lol
I don't repair carbs any longer. I just replace them. Been burned on a repair like this only to have some other carb problem once the engine is restarted. Good video though!
🎉😅🎉thank you very muchos. God bless.
How does the meter raise or lower?
if you have a diaphragm with a shorter pin would it still work if you adjust the needle lever a little higher ? would it work properly
yes it should
I need same info but weed eater is a Tanaka please
Does this apply to gas leaking into air filter.
don, i have a stihl fs 56c and its hard to find parts that match the descriptions on charts mostly fs 55 or fs 70 will they fit on a fs56 as well or can you suggest somthing
Parts are readily available from Stihl dealer
@@donyboy73 i want to buy the rebuild kits from online dealers as discount parts online or ROTARY OR STENS its difficult to match what is found on fs 56 stihls
Thanks for the videos! I have a "weedeater" brand 2 cycle edger that doesn't run unless I pull sparkplug and squirt gas into cylinder, and it only runs till that gas is burned up. Gas was ran dry the last time it was running. I guessing it is a carb issue, any ideas? Thanks for any help you can offer, and yes I have been a subscriber for a couple years.
sounds like a carb issue, it might be easier for you to just replace entire carb
@@donyboy73 K, thanks for replying, I have to pull carb and see about a replacement.
Where u get the tools from.?
Holy shit! Thank you
My Stihl fs38 has a rough idle. Runs great at full throttle. Just has rough idle. Replaced spark plug. Any ideas? I use ethanol free gas
try cleaning muffler screen also
Any special walbro replacement parts for that metering valve that won't need replaced again?
this was a Zama carb, walbro has spiral diaphragms that last longer
