Wonderful video and fascinating to compare such well known designs, but so different from each other. We spent quite a bit of time at KBL having arrived there first in early 2014. Our boat is a 12 ton Gauntlet - built in NZ of native NZ Kauri timber (carvel planked) and with a (then) 50 year old 60 hp 4 cylinder Fordson diesel. She was first launched in 1978 in Wellington, NZ. For those who know, Gauntlets are double-ended and, being designed in 1934 as ocean cruiser/racers, performed well. In their day they were successful English Channel racers and ours apparently once won a race across Cook Strait - an infamous body of water! But the double ended design did mean that space down below was limited but for just the 2 of us, she was fine. We left NZ in 2011 and sailed via New Caledonia, Australia, Indonesia and Malaysia to Thailand. Soon after arriving in Thailand in 2014 we went to Chennai, India where Jean underwent double hip replacements - time interval between hips was 3 weeks. The experience was faultless and the surgeon, Dr. Vijay Bose, was among the top 5 orthopeadic surgeons in the world. We have many stories of our time in Thailand and Malaysia and our haulout experiences - some good and others not so!! We remember Mark at KBL and having many conversations around the bar! Great memories. Sadly our sailing home of 10 years was sold in Turkey and we are now living far from the sea in Medellin, Colombia. I follow different creators from the U.K. and frequently think the footage needs to be color graded. It’s a fun process that will encourage the rest of the world to think the U.K. isn’t glum and gray
I had a Hans Christian 48 ketch- Pacific Pearl, great boat but so much work to keep in reasonable cruising condition. During the 23 months we owned her we spent twice her sale price - plus a lot of sweat Before that I had a Bavaria 49, great boat but felt like a product more than a boat. I have nothing to complain about with that boat but never actually felt like it was a boat. After the H C 48T, we bought a Catana 42 catamaran. That was the best of all the boats I ever owned. We sold it purely for monetary reasons and will buy one again one day soon. But we now own an ior 37 foot boat and it is great. We own it as someone gave it to me for about 7000 pounds The best boat from the three compared, given I have owned similar boats was the Catana - a catamaran. Great videos btw Paul
I raced for years on an S&S34. They are a magnificent sea boat and still fast and winning races as well as having some incredible solo circumnavigations and one double circumnavigation. Cant speak highly enough about these boats
There's a guy we know in Yacht Haven with an S&S (40 I think it is). He's always winning all the races. Beautiful boats. My fave was an S&S 60 I helped rescue in Turkey. They invited me on board for drinks to thank me and I fell in love with it. Still my fave boat of all time.
Nice refreshing video... some wind and water...must have been hard on you guys, and Millie too, being on the hard for so long... Your earlier videos and music were a great source of inspiration. Not only are you two good storytellers and documentarians, but you introduced me to whole new world of music on the internet. THANK YOU for that! Looking forward to your upcoming passages.
I’m dreaming of a Hans Christian for a while now. I love these boats! Unfortunately, there are only a few for sale here in Europe. And those are very expensive.
Another nice one guys! Amazing playground for a sail race! With our 2.5m draft I would probably constantly panic about running aground :D Nice shots all over! Thanks for that!
Love your channel! Would have loved to see the interior of the four boats to get an idea of what you were referring to when describing the benefits and disadvantages of each one.
Yes, agreed, David. Unfortunately we didn't have time, what with the travelling back from the UK. At the 11th hour yesterday Liz said 'we really must get some interior shots' but the editing was almost done and I was knackered! Maybe we'll go on board them before we leave the marina.
For a second, there, I thought Liz had locked Jamie in the storage unit, still admiring his records. Nice to see that you're back on the boat, and nice to see those beautiful boats.
Hey Lester, I like your answer : ) We have a 33 and out of all the HC’s I think the 33 is the best design and build! 👍🏻 Did you make it to College Station for the game? I’m an Aggie 😊
Nice to see both of you are back on the boat ! I have been doing some research on the Irwin brand why don't I see or hear from Cruisers owing one of these beutefull boats in particular the Ketch Irwin 52/54 the late 80's version
Sailing followtheboat For reasons I don't understand, there is a lot of 'anti' snobbery around 80's Irwin's over here in the USA. Their sailing ability is often called into question, I guess by folks who have never seen one. That's how the Internet works, right ? BTW Liz, I am from Streatham as well, the SW2 end close to Brixton HIll. Used to walk to Tooting tube station every day !
I am torn.... it's between a Hans Christian 33 or a Lord Nelson 35. I like the head forward and being able to get to the chain locker. V-Births are not for a fella my age. The coachmen's bunk works and the wood interior is a must. I don't need to go fast and like the heavy displacement. The people that own them seem to take good care of them too. The galley on both looks great. I am trying to find out what there is not to like with these two models. If I had a bitch it would be that there doesn't seem to be a good spot for a solid fuel stove.
That would be the Ives design, great layout for a 33', I'm torn between the Perry 34' ,which is a much rarer boat, and the Ives 33' both great little blue water boats
Do you not perhaps mean Fast 42' Alex Simonis design built in SA by Fast yachts and John Robertson, I race them regularly, bit too much heel for me for a blue water cruiser. Great fast boats though, could use a bit bigger headsail with that fractional rig.
Would've been nice if you had put boat info up on screen as you started talking about each boat. I couldn't even tell what any boat was that you were talking about. And..I still can't figure out what kind of boat you're sailing! I've been searching and can't find any info. Your ketch kind of looks like amel super maru but I don't know. Please put boat info in video description 🙏 A Nissan boat....with a Volvo Penta engine and drive system? That's weird! Never knew Nissan made boats
All the boats are listed in the description. We describe our boat in the 'About' tab on our YT home page. In more recent videos Esper's info is also included in the description by default. Liz
Hi Jamie and Liz, Your storage lockup could maybe be expanded about all the odds and sods of cruising. Maybe a vid on all the little things like; registered address, keeping DVLA/Taxman/Bank happy, Physical post, Parcels. I know you have covered some of these more mundane items but maybe pull them together into one boring discussion/rant/snooze. ;-)
That's a great idea, Ian. Yes, it could be boring but I think these things are important considerations when living aboard, abroad. We'll mark this suggestion down, thank you. 👍
Yeah, I think it's only worth it if you're using two or more tracks a week, every week, Larry. Because we put music in every episode we were getting fed up with trying to find copyright free music. The money is worth it to remove that headache. Hope you're staying well and catching more fish 🎣
I went ahead and signed up for their free trial in the You Tube section. I do like their music and you are right. It's getting harder to find good music that is copyright free. You guys take in a lot more money so I can see the value. I'm still just a little guy on You Tube and in Patreon so it hurts a bit more LOL... But I'm going to try them out anyhow. For $15 a month it may even be worth it for me.
What I particularly like are the stems. You can download each track broken into bass, melody, instruments etc. This makes it much easier to fade tracks by cutting the drums four or eight bars before the end, for example. You'll have a lot of fun going through the library, Larry, and don't be afraid to experiment with genres you wouldn't normally look at. I particularly like the 70s rock!
I don't really understand what you mean by breaking into bass, melody, instruments etc. But I know how busy you guys are so don't worry about it. Maybe sometime you could explain it to me in Email. I'm running around in there listening to music. so far 90% of it seems repetitive and not much like what I hear other people using on YT. I used the same track as this one for a video I'm working on now. Hope you don't mind. It just fits.
Hi there, nice to see you back, you have obviously missed your boat life. Where is Millie? Cannot believe we are still not getting a proper view of your dodger, it’s infamous in its own right! Lost track of how long we’ve all been waiting. Xxx
We had to get the sailing stuff in this week's episode, just to keep everyone happy, but we'll be doing a full update on the dodger next week, Annette!
We did that some time last year, Don. Unfortunately I can't remember which episode it was but I think it's the one where I talk through how I prepare Esper for a sail.
i did :-) he was a friend of my parents as was thora hird. they used to come to our home in Sale(outside of manchester) and party with my parents when doing shows in town.
Impressive, Iain. My only claim to fame is that Hattie Jaques used to live in a neighbouring village and she'd put on fetes in her back garden, which we attended. Sadly she wasn't dressed as a matron.
Hey Jamie, love the Sid James T-Shirt! Did you know that he was a South African born in Johannesburg and a regular actor on the "CARRY ON" movies. He was always referred to as "the grand old man of dirty laughter"
I owned Mas Alegre from 2006 till 2015 i bought from Ed Vaughan who owned her from 1982 till 2006 she originally raced on the West Coast of America LA area winning many offshore races. Ed first cruised her from LA across the Pacific to New Zealand from there shipped her back to LA where he went back to work in Hollywood where he worked as Producer / Director for many years. He left LA again in 1987 went across the Pacific up to Hong Kong across to Sth Africa i met Mas Alegre in Durban in 1990 Ed actually sailed with his partner Julie Spence whom he said many times was the best crew he ever sailed with she sailed with Ed for 10 years on Mas Alegre. I think the circumnavigation finished in 1993 or 1994 after seeing them in St Maarten in 1993 i didnt see Ed & Mas Alegre till 2005-2006 in Yacht Haven Marina i know after arriving back in LA , Ed later cruised with different crews nth to Alaska , Seattle etc before leaving LA again i think in 2000 to Hawaii then into the Sth Pacific across to Australia then back out to Fiji and back to Australia up to New Guinea then nth again to Hong Kong and across to Singapore then Phuket. As mentioned i bought her then and Ed well he found the place he wanted to live in and stay i am very sad to tell you all that Ed died 3 days ago at Phuket Bangkok Hospital i miss my friend vaya con dios Ed
Thank you so much for this information. We're sorry to hear of Ed's passing. It sounds like he had a lot of fun aboard Mas Alegre and was a consummate sailor. We'll forward on this to John. Thank you for all the details. Fair winds to you. Here's to Ed ⛵
Hi! Offcorse the renovations of the boat must have to take the time it takes! When you are oute on the oceans it !must! Be in order! LIFE hangs on that! Seems like some people don't really understand that! Wondering, do you have a sextant with nessesary utensils for navigation in the old way? If, if, if the fancy system would colaps? Just a thougth! IF, Would not happend the boat i would like to have is a Hans Christian BarbroSweden
Thank you for awnser, hope you have seen Eric Forsyth on his Fiona, it is grate when he learn Drake and Ena to take the sun higth and learn them to mark the sea cards! This fasinating man particle sietist relaxing with saling around the world. Don't think most of the smaler boats have sextant abord I was for fun looking at the sortiment at the market on the net sadly to say that the most one I saw was not real one . Perhaps they are available in GB or Germany or perhaps in a Skip merchant in Gothenburg! Fancy brass things for decorations is not the functionality that helps on the sea! Faire wind's! BarbroSweden
Just at though that corse my brain when I saw your logo, Japan as you know is the now old land of optics....... perhaps they have good sextants at decent price's? Just a thougth! How, how, how, just googel on sextants from Japan eBay seems overloaded of them, funny! Faire winds BarbroSweden
Frans Maas is indeed a (Dutch) yacht designer. I owned a Standfast 33 wich sails superb. As a liveaboard yacht? Mwha. Frans was died tagically in a sailing accident summer of 2017 in which the keel broke off the yacht he was racing.
Aha! Finally, understand now how your picks in your background Music is high taste. You were a DJ :-) Anyway you can create your choice of a playlist if you were still Dj'ing. It would be a welcome addition to your offerings.
Aha! We just started to put together a playlist of the music we use. We'll be adding to it over the weeks. It's here: bit.ly/ftb_musicplaylist_chillout 😎 Liz
I would go for the Hans Christian. I've never been aboard one but did see one "in the flesh" here on the Great Lakes. Oh by the way - was that Sid James I saw on Jamie's tshirt? Carry on Sailing!
When I’m asked, “What boat do you live on,” I reply, “A 1965 full keel 26 ft. Pearson Ariel.” They always say “That’s way too small for me, I’d have to have an 80 footer, full of electronics, & air-conditioned!” I ask them what boat they have? “I don’t have one,” they reply.
We missed the show by a day. We contemplated going but it would have meant extending our flights (for a cost) and Liz was desperate to get back to the boat (as was I).
To be completely honest we haven’t been watching all of your videos lately they have kinda switched gears more like a talk show and not about the different destinations we maybe interested in. Be safe guys take care
as soon as I saw Mas Alegre I thought that must be the S&S you were featuring, but alas, no! I can't help thinking that Frans Maas must have been heavily influenced by S&S as the lines are so distinctly S&S'esque! :-)
Compare that lock up to the crappy places on 'tv storage wars'! Quality organization too. 👍👍🇬🇧 The '70's era boat with the IOR rule have a look you love or hate , but that tumblehome just gives me goose bumps! One of the best survivors of the era was the , believe it or not, a Catalina 38, www.catalina38.org Catalina bought the mold of a S&S racer, and modified it quite a bit into a better , faster boat but with a full cruising interior! , they are now highly prized yachts. Buy the way, tumblehome is a great way to protect the toe rail on a boat too! Cheers Warren
Thanks for the link, Warren. I'm not familiar with Catalinas so that website was a useful browse and an interesting background. A seven foot draft on a 38ft boat is quite significant! Unfortunately I couldn't see many photos as it's behind a log-in but I learned something today. Cheers ⛵
Hi Liz,Jamie, since you are not familiar with USA Catalina's....more imfor.......Catalina yachts in the USA Is like the Westerly of the U.K. But still in business. Solid boat with long production runs, great customer service and owners assn. en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Catalina_Yachts I posted some pictures I took a couple yrs ago on my first west coast us charter trip of a gorgeous 80's Catalina 38 I saw in Gig Harbour. Here s300.photobucket.com/user/whmwa/library/Boat%20pics There is also a newish channel of a Canadian couple on a similar era Hughes 35 (s&s) heading south right now , 'ladyKsailing' in a go cheap go now plan! Oh Catalina made a shoal draft version of the 38 too. Cheers Warren

If it was for me it would always be the Hans Christian. So salty with classic interior. I'm not nuts about the rounded transom, but it has it's use. If you want to go fast, NOT the Hans Christian.
Sadly a disappointing vlog this time guys. Why didn't you have a quick walk thru of each boat as you were describing it, it would have been a lot more helpful seeing as "liveaboard" refers more to the inside really. Other than that there was some good info. Crack on 😉
Thanks Liz... I know you guys have a lot on your plate but we are currently looking for a blue cruiser live-aboard and this sort of information is would be so helpful, Dunx
I want a Sparkman & Stephens T-in a tiny Ladies size with Esper on the Back in Bold lettering in a large arc.I will design it for you for free! Let me do it for Millie!-Please,I'll design the Tee for Free-For Millie! and also add the graphics in Japanese. Stay Safe my Lovelies! From a tiny Lady that loves Cats.
I have a graphic/design company in SXM .I don't want to reveal the name because the firm is under myself and Husband-in a messy Divorce.I am more than happy to do my art for free.
Sorry guys - I am a dark side convert after 36yrs of keelers..... OUTREMER! (And yes I was with them pre La Vagabond!) S&S is the best cruiser / racer imho......
Always had a soft spot for S&S, Paul. Can't share your enthusiasm for cats but of course the Outremer is a class act and would leave us for dust. My main issue with cats like the Outremer is that I wouldn't be able to stow all the crap we've accumulated over the last 12 years!
Sailing followtheboat - having lead a transient life (16 yrs Military where you carry what you own) Pardoned after 27 yrs of marriage (didn't want what was in the house anyway) it's cathartic to review / renew & replace ( :-) ).... This is my 1st "performance" cat & its 2nd hand, very lucky with the fit out from the original owner matched what I needed / wanted, update of the Nav / Radio electronics..... Lithium + Solar, Water maker + Compressor...... Space wise I am fully fitted to support 4 x divers (she who should be obeyed & 2 sets for guests), 1st/2nd level tools to repair / support the boat systems.... But the main thing Jamie is the ability to pick up the skirts & run! (Think Brave, brave Sir Robin here)..... Safety is the ability to GTF out of Dodge when needed, hard to do on a keeler unless in fully crewed stripped down mode...... I have done my time living +/- 3-45deg heel! I hated the idea of going multi's however (the significant other) she grew up on a cat (with 4 siblings home schooled to Un) PART OF THE COURTING PROCESS WAS .... yes - learning to lurve cats...... It has its down sides (double the chance of things going wrong) - we went through the refit tribulations exactly as you & Liz, came out of it wiser (& yes poorer LOL) but for where we are heading & have planned, is suits.... but Sir, G & T's at 15knts reaching - ahhhhh - to be experienced mate!
"He ran away and he ran away" 😂 OK, you're making me jealous now, Paul! Don't get me wrong, I don't dislike cats like some do, I just prefer the mono movement, albeit at just 7 knots. That said, we have seen some great cats out there and we get the attraction. We did consider them when we were looking to buy Esper but back then cats were very expensive and outside our budget. There seem to be a lot more of them these days. I sailed a fast cat from Spain to Gran Canaria and the speeds were incredible. I just got a bit tired of beating into wind when we hit a storm. It felt like the cat wanted to divide into two - the galley was like a scene from Poltergeist. An Outremer is in a different class though. They look like a lot of fun! Who knows? Maybe we'll cross over to the dark side yet. Fair winds to you and the family. I look forward to that G&T at 15kn when we meet 👍

Cheers, Paul. I understand the ketch HC was very popular but as Mark said, they require a lot of maintenance. 7k is a bargain for a 37 footer!

Great video, fantastic shots of London.
Great video guys! How fun!
Very good fun but we should be doing all this in our own boat! Soon, very soon...
Good to see you back.👍
Thanks, Norman. It's nice to be back!
Excellent video
I have that Rupert book, somewhere. Keep the great content coming.
Er, yeah, hang up from my childhood, Jason. I used to collect them. Shhh, keep it quiet.
I could be bias, but Hands down winner for a live aboard world cruiser is the Hans Christian. That’s why I bought one.
😂😂 A good choice, Paul.
Totally agree, that’s why I bought one as well 😅👍🏻
Paul, that’s why I bought one HC 41T “motion”
Yes indeed, very hard not to love an S&S.
Our Bavaria does not have the portlights in the hull sides which greatly increases storage.
Thank you . You 2 are lovely people.
❤👍
Hi Folks, thanks for this info but it would be nice to include a walkthrough of each vessel and to give a running commentary.👍
You're not the only one to suggest this. If we're able to get access, we'll film inside in a future episode. Liz
Thanks for the great video's much appreciated - safe sailing & fair wind's
I’m dreaming of a Hans Christian for a while now. I love these boats! Unfortunately, there are only a few for sale here in Europe. And those are very expensive.
Yes it's a gorgeous model of sailboat, but too expensive for us as well! Liz
Nice one Jaime - spotted that In Front - Wan' it 10"! Huge for me in Boston back in the day. Have DJ'ed since about '85. Rave on!
👌🎶🎧
Former DJ with a massive vinyl addiction. Now the really cool eclectic sound track to all your videos makes sense :)
I agree!
Another nice one guys! Amazing playground for a sail race! With our 2.5m draft I would probably constantly panic about running aground :D
Nice shots all over! Thanks for that!
I'm just not in that much of a hurry, so it would be the HC all thing being considered for me. Bet Milly was glad to see you!
She's still beside herself a week on!
You Two ROCK!
❤️
Send Kisses to Millie

Thanks, Jeff. She had to drag me away from them tbh!
Hans Christian, but I’d down size to the 33 for several reasons that all came down to cost.
She's a lovely sailboat... Liz
Hey Lester, I like your answer : )
We have a 33 and out of all the HC’s I think the 33 is the best design and build! 👍🏻
Did you make it to College Station for the game? I’m an Aggie 😊
too much wood on the outside to keep up. Love the interior layouts
like the playlist idea...

Your UK video was awesome.
Thank you, glad you liked it 👌
Nice to see both of you are back on the boat ! I have been doing some research on the Irwin brand why don't I see or hear from Cruisers owing one of these beutefull boats in particular the Ketch Irwin 52/54 the late 80's version
We have friends on an Irwin 54 sloop. She's a beast of a boat! I really like it. They're a family of four and love it too.
Sailing followtheboat For reasons I don't understand, there is a lot of 'anti' snobbery around 80's Irwin's over here in the USA. Sorry - what am I thinking.. Balham Tube, not Tooting. I saw a re-run of Citizen Smith the other day, hence the mix up !
Thank You.

You're welcome. We will be adding more when we are less busy. 👍😎 Liz
Was that docklands rail ride clip just sped up or a proper hyperlapse? It looked real good.
Just sped up, Andrew, with a couple of zooms thrown in and some stabilising. I love that journey, especially at that time in the afternoon.
Did you digitize your vinyl so you can enjoy on the boat?
No, that would have taken me years, Mark. I suspect most of those tunes are on youtube though.
Something about that HC Cutter thats just pure.
That is a very good word to describe her. Spot on 👌
First 42 is always a good one for long trips.
Do you not perhaps mean Fast 42' Alex Simonis design built in SA by Fast yachts and John Robertson, I race them regularly, bit too much heel for me for a blue water cruiser. Great fast boats though, could use a bit bigger headsail with that fractional rig.
Mark Jones needs to make a you tube channel. I could listen to him tell stories for hours with that voice.
That's why we chose him! He's well spoken and has a story or too to boot.
what boat does he sail?
I'm not sure, Pete. It's steel. I'll ask him when I next see him.
thank you, he seems to be very knowledgeable and I can see why you picked him to chat too, excellent video as always
Please put boat info in video description 🙏
A Nissan boat....with a Volvo Penta engine and drive system?
I've been wanting to try Epidemic Sound. Very expensive though. Great video. Loved the drone footage.
Hans Christian for me, its my dream boat :)
A good choice, Simon
Hi there, nice to see you back, you have obviously missed your boat life. Where is Millie? Cannot believe we are still not getting a proper view of your dodger, it’s infamous in its own right! Lost track of how long we’ve all been waiting. Xxx
We had to get the sailing stuff in this week's episode, just to keep everyone happy, but we'll be doing a full update on the dodger next week, Annette!
Sailing followtheboat where’s Millie? Hope she is ok xxx
She'll be back, don't worry 😺
When you have the time could you please explain the different types of rigs. (eg. ketch rig)
We did that some time last year, Don. Unfortunately I can't remember which episode it was but I think it's the one where I talk through how I prepare Esper for a sail.
Thank you I will look for it. Have a great day.
Hahaha, Sid James on the T Shirt. Awesome.
Nyaha nyha nyha!
Wondered how many people would recognise El Sid. 😊 Liz
Carry On Camping. My dad took me to see that when I was 14. Oh Barbara Windsor. First time I'd seen boobs on screen. ;)
i did :-) he was a friend of my parents as was thora hird. they used to come to our home in Sale(outside of manchester) and party with my parents when doing shows in town.
Impressive, Iain. My only claim to fame is that Hattie Jaques used to live in a neighbouring village and she'd put on fetes in her back garden, which we attended. Sadly she wasn't dressed as a matron.
What's with the Sid James t-shirt?
Hey Jamie, love the Sid James T-Shirt! Did you know that he was a South African born in Johannesburg and a regular actor on the "CARRY ON" movies. He was always referred to as "the grand old man of dirty laughter"
I grew up with him and his laugh kills me every time, Robert. Not a particularly PC t-shirt what with his reputation but they guy is a legend.
HaHa... Then again I've reached the seventies and I say "Screw PC" ( A rose is a Rose by any other name)
What’s taking so long on upgrades
Haha, have you been watching our videos? 😊 Liz
Sailing followtheboat yes
Where is Millie??
On holiday 😉
No, we don't have a sextant but it's on our wish-list, Barbro. I've had a go with one but don't know how to take proper sightings yet.
Thanks for the heads up, Barbro.
Frans Maas is indeed a (Dutch) yacht designer. I owned a Standfast 33 wich sails superb. As a liveaboard yacht? Mwha.
Frans was died tagically in a sailing accident summer of 2017 in which the keel broke off the yacht he was racing.
I did not know that, that's very sad. Thanks for the info.
Is that Charles Bukowski on your shirt? Cheers!
The actual comparison starts at 8:17
LOVE the tee shirt.
It's a winner! 😊 Liz
Class, eh?
"it's a team building exercise and I was building my team" I laughed out loud at that
😁
Aha! Finally, understand now how your picks in your background Music is high taste.
You were a DJ :-)
Anyway you can create your choice of a playlist if you were still Dj'ing.
It would be a welcome addition to your offerings.
Aha! We just started to put together a playlist of the music we use. We'll be adding to it over the weeks. It's here: bit.ly/ftb_musicplaylist_chillout
😎 Liz
love the Sid James T shirt.
It's a classic.
I wonder how many people recognise Sydney James :)
Haha, we wondered that. A few viewers, like you, have! 😊 Liz
sid james tee, fantastic
😁
I have just seen that Redbubble has Basil Brush T's too ! Boom Boom !
I had his album as a kid. Must have listened to that hundreds of times.
Sailing followtheboat - And it could be yours again ! www.discogs.com/Basil-Brush-Basil-Brush/release/3087297 Great Channel, by the way.
By the way Welcome Back and I could live on any one of those boats... :)
Fair point, Larry. Let's not be choosy, they're all great boats in their own way.
horses for courses , great vid thanks.
And I thought that was Sid James on your t-shirt - turns out it's a picture of you when you're jet lagged!!
Brilliant!
I would go for the Hans Christian. I've never been aboard one but did see one "in the flesh" here on the Great Lakes.
Oh by the way - was that Sid James I saw on Jamie's tshirt?
Carry on Sailing!
Carry on Sailing! Love it! ⛵
Hehe, like it 👍
High bow, low stern, wide beam with stern overhang....The Standfast 40 is reminiscent of a Bill Tripp design!
No Ketch? :(
For a moment I thought you was going to the boat show and do a episode with sailing uma...
Look out for Liz's 'extra' on our revised sailing plans, coming out soon.
Goodness I haven't heard "Robbers dog" statement for ever!
Neither had I - I think thou can tell that from my reaction! 😂 Liz
as soon as I saw Mas Alegre I thought that must be the S&S you were featuring, but alas, no! I can't help thinking that Frans Maas must have been heavily influenced by S&S as the lines are so distinctly S&S'esque! :-)
Yes, I think it's something everyone falls for and yep, I reckon he was heavily influenced by them too. Beautiful boat.
S&S for me beauty and a safe boat. Hans Christian to slow. Bavaria fast with a keel deadly without
Need a dampening system for a turntable on your yacht.....
That crossed my mind many times before we moved aboard. Selling the decks was heart-wrenching!
Hans Christian...would not liveaboard any other vessel.
Ride that dolly Liz!!!
Haha! Can never resist a trolley. 😁 Liz
Compare that lock up to the crappy places on 'tv storage wars'! Quality organization too. 👍👍🇬🇧
The '70's era boat with the IOR rule have a look you love or hate , but that tumblehome just gives me goose bumps!
Solid boat with long production runs, great customer service and owners assn.
en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Catalina_Yachts
I posted some pictures I took a couple yrs ago on my first west coast us charter trip of a gorgeous 80's Catalina 38 I saw in Gig Harbour. Here
s300.photobucket.com/user/whmwa/library/Boat%20pics
There is also a newish channel of a Canadian couple on a similar era Hughes 35 (s&s) heading south right now , 'ladyKsailing' in a go cheap go now plan! Oh Catalina made a shoal draft version of the 38 too.
Cheers Warren

If it was for me it would always be the Hans Christian. So salty with classic interior. I'm not nuts about the rounded transom, but it has it's use.
If you want to go fast, NOT the Hans Christian.
HC just look like living large.
Man, even your trains drive on the wrong side of the tracks. :-)
😂😜
looks like your brother haha, just with a longer beard.
I don't know whether to be offended, Robert 😂
Sadly a disappointing vlog this time guys. Why didn't you have a quick walk thru of each boat as you were describing it, it would have been a lot more helpful seeing as "liveaboard" refers more to the inside really. Other than that there was some good info. Crack on 😉
If we can get access, we will film inside the boats too in a future episode. Liz
Thanks Liz... I know you guys have a lot on your plate but we are currently looking for a blue cruiser live-aboard and this sort of information is would be so helpful, Dunx
Here is a hint for anyone making video's...talking heads is a bad idea. WE DO NEED to SEE you but 5%. Great subject...quit watching
That's your point of view, but it's not ours. See ya (or not). Liz
The music gave my ears the aids- i had to change it

Sorry guys - I am a dark side convert after 36yrs of keelers..... OUTREMER! (And yes I was with them pre La Vagabond!) S&S is the best cruiser / racer imho......
Haha! Enjoy! Liz
