Always find these interesting, the electrolyte tablets are a great idea, I never think of them, the amount you sweat day after day on the long walks. Great kit list 👍
the only downside to using electrolyte tablets is that it makes cleaning out your bottles more difficult. If you forget to do it you end up with a mouldy mess!
Interesting load out Andy, some great kit choices.. always good to ditch all them stuff sacs/dry bags. The way you've got everything folded, I wonder if you did work experience at Benetton🤔🤣 Always good to see what other folk tek, TFS cheers Alistair 👍
Great to see what you carried I pretty much carry the same for all my 3 season camps buty tents different ( niak ) and I use a cumulus quilt which ways about the same as your sleeping bag.its strange but I always carry hat gloves and buff and waterproof bottoms as well even in summer I just don't feel right if I leave them out

My load is even more modest than yours (I’m a rather small solo female), but let’s face it, you got everything you needed for a five day hike into a 35L pack. Impressive, particularly as not so long ago that sort of weight and bulk on a multi-day hike would have been unheard of. We’ve come a long way in the last 30 - 4O years.
quite right the technology in gear now days & for future is getting lighter which can only be better for us campers..i usually preach take what you need for an enjoyable camp & it weighs what it weighs but im all for lightening kit up too.
Really tidy set-up, I really like the look of that Durston tent - a very nice bit of kit...Totally agree about the Cumbria Way - it is an excellent route and worth doing both ways. Also if you go North to South its worth doing the "mountain route" alternative that takes you over The Knott, Skiddaw, Walla Crag, Glaramara, Swirl How, and Coniston Old Man - it's only a tad longer (think about 90 miles) but obviously there is a fair bit more elevation. I did it with our lass over 3 days a few years back. Absolutely worth it - especially as you've already done the "official" route as it gives you a totally different perspective of the Lakes whilst still hitting all the nice towns like Caldbeck, Keswick and Coniston

I'm planning my second Pennine way walk for next year with my daughter when she finishes her exams, I'll be taking my Rab aeon ultra 28, and I do what you do, use no stuff bags etc, my neoir X lite is folded and sits against the back panel at the bottom of the pack, with my Vango venom 200 sleeping bag stuffed to the bottom, with my insulating jacket stuffed on top. I use good quality zip loc bags for toiletries, I use the sea to summit soap leaves rather than liquid soap, it saves space and weight. I've also got a durston X mid solid, but the 2p version, great tents for through hikes and wild camping. I use a modified omm map pouch to store navigation equipment, power bank, snacks etc, it's great not having to take the pack off to get to stuff. I can't wait for next year 😁
yeah it really helps with packing not using stuff sacks etc..making the most of space in a pack is what you need to do to utilize all available space..plus you dont have all these stuff sacks laying about then..good luck with the PW next year hope the weather is great.

Some great gear there Andy mate. I use those electrolytes myself especially on my longer runs, great things. I want to try get them I sachet form fir hiking so I'm not carrying the big tube around lol those sheep made me laugh, appearing in the background :) Atb Mark

Cheers Andy. Interesting and I always feel I could go lighter not that I make big efforts towards that but it helps. I have just packed for 9 more days on the Cambrian way starting 12th July. I bought a few new bits the biggest being some lighter boots as I felt it’s not the sort of trail I could do in my trainers. Food is the biggest thing for the middle section of the CW as only a couple of small shops so starting out with 5 days food so a total starting pack weight incl electric’s of 12 kg. Only not including poles and water. Anyway great video and tek care👍🍻
12kg aint bad at all tbh dave especially packed for 9 days..i have to say goung to light trail shoes has really made a massive difference..probably like you ive always been the "sturdy boot" believer but the difference with shoes has been astonishing..
I noticed you too are a stormin user.. me and my son also, I have the alloy version my son uses the ti version (in hindsight I should have got ti) Its such a shame Stormin Norman is no longer with us ... his stove are great, I'm not looking forwards to my cone failing so got myself a Honeystove titanium to replace it

Hindsight is useful but you need to be prepared for weather regardless of the season so the essentials are essential in my book. Do you find that RAB rain jacket water proof for any length of time? I have tried several different brand jackets but they all leak after an hour or so. Thanks for the video.
quite right hindsight is a great thing..if you could guarantee weather then certain essentials probably would'nt be needed but as we're all to aware forecasts can be hit & miss..any "waterproof" with the exeption of goretex will eventually wet out..you have to remember too the likes of pertex you will sweat in those types which some mistake as wet getting in..

Would you say your 35 ltr Atompack would be classed as a day pack rather than a backpacking pack Andrew because I think a 30 to 35 ltr pack would be classed as a day pack, you still managed to get a load of gear into it.
@@rayman365 you would still have to carry all your waterproofs especially on a multi day hike, it might be decent weather when you set off but you don't know what the weather would be like in forthcoming days, I would be all for using as small a pack as possible on a multi day hike if you can get all your gear in that you need.
The "35"L Atom is actually over 40L as the 3 outside pockets are not included in the calculation, just the main compartment. For ultralight loads designed to cope with all weathers and temps between 40C and -5C, this size pack is more than adequate - witness all the many experienced thru-hikers on the various 4-6month long trails in the US and Canada who deal with far more extreme conditions than on the Cumbria Way.
a 35 litre pack could quite easily be used as a day pack yes..it then depends on what type of camping gear you have to wether it will fit into a 30/35 litre pack..my 3 season gear fits into the 35 litre pack quite easily..
the side pockets are actually calculated in to the stated litre capacity..for instance the atom 30 the main body volume is 25l..two side pocket volume 2x 2.5 litre equalling in total 30 litre..the front pocket can stretch to hold up to an additional 5l in volume..

theyre the Rab torque shorts..theyre ok but id like them to be elasticated waist like the trousers are..these use a belt for some reason..

better to call it a 3 season pack ..i use a 38 ,can get everything in , why take anything bigger in decent weather
