bri i ikr!! being someone who used to struggle with it at a high level this would be me (except I’d try to hide it) so I’d go off to a bathroom or something and try to calm down but if I didn’t hide that’s exactly how I’d be!! i wasn’t actually diagnosed with it, but I assumed it and I’m sure of it now. having to pretend I was so confident broke me down inside. I honestly feel so bad for her 😔

Kiara Henry the CHILD clearly has some form of social anxiety, and coming from someone who suffers with it as well it’s not that easy. simply being put on the spot with the pressure on you can cause a panic attack, and she’s a child.

She is a psychologist and whether she decides to use her knowledge of frueds theories outside of her workspace is her decision and she should not be judge based on her career and how much she decides to speak of it! She is much more knowledgeable than you are. My dad is a psychiatrist and he does not go around diagnosing people and speaking about how their actions could have deeper meanings, if someone does not spefically ask for help in their life he is not just gonna shove his unwanted opinion in ppl's faces.

That's what I was thinking. The more she's upset or stressed out the more difficult it is for her to speak up. You can see she's trying but the words won't come out. However, I think people need to stop saying these girls are having panic attacks every time they get nervous.

@@MsJubjubbird coming from someone that dances with hannah at competitions, her mother has told my friends that hannah was very stressed out on the show. it's not that hannah can't help herself, her experience with this show wasn't good for her.
I do think she’s well intentioned. But one of the things that helps with anxiety is exposure. And her always trying to speak for her kid isn’t helping in the long run.

Belittling and yelling at an anxious person doesn’t always mean it’s gonna stop them from being anxious
Exactly it literally feels like your stomach is tightening up and you’re going to suffocate, that’s not something that you can fix overnight, it takes YEARS and it still is never completely gone
Take it from me, as someone who has anxiety and panic attacks - it's the LAST thing they need.
When does that ever work? It's a feeling you can't shake, even the person going through it knows that their thoughts are irrational, but it doesn't help. Your body still responds and your heart feels like it's going to pump out of your chest. It's the worst feeling because you feel like a failure for having such a reaction to some things that people do with ease.

Yeah but if a kid is vying for a career in showbiz you would think they would have basic public speaking skills. That was a simple question. I mean ten year olds can give book reports so a 13 year old can say she can do a chin stand.

hearing ann say that hannah is the strongest person she knows makes me fully believe that there is a diagnosed medical condition that causes her to be unable to speak in certain situations. as someone who suffers from selective mutism and social anxiety just watching this clip sends me into tears because i know exactly how she is feeling and it is the worst feeling in the world. the mothers and abby making fun of her and telling her to just open her mouth and talk makes me so angry

Well this doesn't justify what Abby did at all, but that was after Christi refused to sign a contract with Abby that they do every year. The only reason Christi and Chloe stayed at the Aldc for season 4 is because they had a contract with lifetime.

I have social anxiety and I can’t imagine being on Dance Moms and being made fun of like that. It is not possible to speak when your anxiety level is that high. The moms and Abby should at least find it in their hearts to show a little bit of empathy. When you don’t know anything about why a kid is panicking, don’t be mean to him/her. I’ve been in situations like that where I would have panic attacks, but luckily every single person that happened with showed empathy, even if they didn’t understand. Hannah Banana, I know what you’re going through and I’m so incredibly proud. You are so strong and I know how hard it is, but you had the courage to do a tv show with it. That blows my mind, keep doing what you are doing and we will always have your back.
Honest, i have social anxiety as well and i, too, get a lot of panic attacks like Hannah did. When a teacher picks on me in class, i honestly cannot say a word..everyone laughs, but nobody actually understands what its like to be scared of people judging you or embarrassing yourself in front of a whole class LET ALONE millions of people watching a TV show you're on.
Emi :D exactly it must be nerve wracking. I was extremely shy as a child and had a stutter when I was really little. I was bullied a lot because of that and because of my shyness. I had to go into speech therapy for year. My parents did put me into theater, and luckily it did help bring me out of my shell. I absolutely adored my theater teachers and directors I work with, they really knew how to work with me. Poor Hannah obviously has an anxiety disorder and that is something that can not be simply turned off. She does need help with that and the fact that she is being filmed for millions to see is only adding on to it. So I think Abby should try to be a little more understanding and try a different approach with her.

dude I completely relate to Hannah when I was growing up I was petrified to speak when put on the spot I was always afraid that my answer wouldn't be good enough and I'd always get yelled at. Abby just needs to understand that kids aren't always wired the same way that she expects them to be that every kid is going to be confident and what they say and how they say it.Abby's the one in the wrong here she needs to get her act together and be more kind and considerate or she's going to keep losing dancers.
That's probably why Hannah loves to dance, she can use her body and movement to communicate and tell the story.

is it really a requirement of dance to be able to talk? i feel like dance is a great hobby for somebody who has selective mutism because it’s a way of showing emotion through physical and facial expressions. why is it considered "babying" when we just want abby to treat hannah like a human? she clearly has a passion for dance. this reminds me a lot of chloe from the earlier seasons. she left the aldc because abby wouldn’t "baby" her and went to a new studio (it wasn’t shown on the show) and she improved so much! she’s really successful now and if she stayed with abby her whole life she’d be going nowhere. im sorry i just wrote an entire paragraph about this and i doubt anyone is reading this much, but one of my biggest pet peeves is ignorance toward people with issues mentally, especially when the issue is irrelevant like saying hannah can’t dance because she has selective mutism.
@@girlonlaptop you are way off base. No one is saying to baby Hannah. We just need Abby to recognize that clearly there is an issue with Hannah but that issue shouldn't stop her from getting a solo. It's dance. Just dance competitions. Abby is doing too much for the cameras.

Hannah likely has social anxiety disorder. I recognize it because I do too, even though I didn't get diagnosed until my 20's. It's not Abby, it's just that when Hannah's put on the spot in a room full of people like that she panics and goes blank. It's the anxiety. I feel so bad for her 😭😭

If Abby was a nurturing, kind educator she would’ve pulled Hannah aside and asked her privately. I can’t tell you how many times my dance teacher has hugged us when we cry and stayed back in class to make sure we were comfortable in the environment. That’s how you teach a child and make sure they don’t quit.
@Jeremy Jones A reality show that is placing real expectations and inflicting real personal issues on these girls. There is a reason why a lot of the previous dancers have come out and spoken about the show so negatively. And there is a reason why some of them, most notably Maddie have never watched an episode of the show because it brings back really bad memories that most likely still affect them today.

I assure you if she gets asked this question at an audition and she bursts into tears in a room full of people no one will comfort her. She'll look ridiculous and lose the job. She needs to get some thicker skin or she's never going to go anywhere.. Tough love hurts but it works. Abby loves the kids and she wants them to learn the hard way because that is the most effective. Hannah's mother has done all the soft cuddly stuff and it's made her daughter as weak as water with social skills well below that of a 13 year old. I mean little kids can answer questions from a teacher

Social anxiety. I’m sure Hannah uses dance as an outlet to be able to express feelings, words, and emotions that she cannot voice otherwise in her everyday life because of her introvert personality. And that’s okay. Not everyone is an extrovert. Yelling at her only compounds the anxiety she feels and makes it worse.
She actually has a lot to say but is saying it through dance movement.
This is really hurting my heart, I know how Hannah feels. I have anxiety as well and the way that Abby and the moms treated her was so RUDE and unbelievable. Her mom was just trying to explain to Abby what her daughter was feeling and Abby was being disrespectful. This show is so twisted 😣🤦🏽♀️

I have an anxiety disorder and this kind of stuff always happened to me at school with teachers who didn't understand and then called me a crybaby when I burst into tears because I couldn't speak. It's not a case of "just speak clearly! be more assertive!" when you have anxiety sometimes you PHYSICALLY can't talk and get words out of your mouth

My friend has super bad social anxiety where if she’s forced to talk she will get a panic attack. These moms don’t understand how real and hard it is to overcome. They wouldn’t understand it unless them or their daughter had it. It took my friend almost 2 months to just whisper to me in public

Kind of Unpopular Opinion: I understand why the other moms would say “just speak up” but why is Stacey not understanding why it’s not easy for her to speak up? Isn’t she a psychologist? She should know someone with bad anxiety or who is just shy and scared isn’t going to just “speak up” that easily. Out of all the moms I would think Stacey would understand I guess.

Believe it or not, I was a student of Ann’s back a couple years ago. She taught me so much and I respect her so much, and her daughter Hannah. I only met her a few times, but she was an absolute sweetheart. I was ecstatic to see them on the new season of dance moms, and honestly they are probably the most kindhearted ones there {my opinion} so watching this really hurt, especially since I know both of them. Honestly if they are kicked out of leave, I’m going to stop watching the show. Period.
