First of all I can’t believe how nice this car looks. Second turbo carb is cool! I can’t wait to see this take shape. Third yes some jeep content would be great and some Mazda 👍 next great video dude 😎🤣
The hard part is, deciding which to start in on
Oh I completely understand that feeling aha@@DeanofMachines
The way I see it, they are your cars, if you want to fit a turbo to a carb based engine...go for it and screw what anyone thinks 👏
I agree Phil!
@@DeanofMachinesif you want to paint them sky blue pink with yellow dots.....do it...if purists want to argue that's their issue
Just found you, very happy I did. Awesome content.
@@baileydillon3331 Welcome aboard! Theres plenty of tom foolery happening here!
Fun fact… Most heavy equipment turbos, for reasons that are unknown to me, do not even have a water cooled cartridge. Heavy trucks do though. All of the Caterpillar equipment I work on just states that you must do a 2 minute (or 5 minutes if compound turbo) cooldown on the engine to prevent coking of oil inside the turbo cartridge.
I always found that interesting and wondered how effective the coolant lines actually were at pulling heat out. I wasn’t going to do it until I found both 940t lines for 20 bucks.
I am learning vicariously through your experiments. 😂
They are definitely experimental LOL
Hey Dean, its great to see something different man, i haven't messed with carbs for years, and certainly not with a wooshy boi attached!
Thanks for doing something a bit fun and interesting, cant wait to see how it turns out.
Look after yourself dude 🤘
Happy to try something new! There’s plenty of LS cars out there that make plenty of power. We aren’t aiming for numbers here. Just doing something fun!
I'm new to the channel, and I just can't help but express the deepest admiration regarding the handling of the exquisitely delicate High Performance parts for the turbo build! Everything carefully catalogued and ready to hand. In particular, the resourceful use of what appears to have been a pry bar to retrieve the Weber Carb from its special storage space in the footwell of the Jeep! The ready and deft use of the 3lb sledge to make the fine adjustments required during the prototyping quite nearly brought forth tears of joy to this former Showroom Shithead who once mounted a rollbar from a Scirocco into a Buick Skyhawk (thus ensuring that I could drive said Skyhawk as rapidly as possible, which I found was not very rapid. Especially when the brakes kept catching on fire).
Seriously, this type of "content" and particularly the random pearls of wisdom and snarky comments make watching these videos a highlight of my dreary existence. Caveat: I intentionally moved TO WV, so consider the source.
If you can’t adjust it with a 3lb sledge, you need s bigger hammer.
I hope you feel right at home here my friend!!
@@DeanofMachines I do! Thank You!
I got inspired and bought two of those adapters off ebay. Thinking of using a TorqAMP feeding my twin carbs.
@@DigitalPhysicianEHR thatll be something!
@@DeanofMachines im comcerned that thw carbs sit high enough that the adapters might hit the hood on my 122. Also concerned about potentially losing my choke. Do you know if its possible to retain the choke while converting to blow through ?
Hey Dean! Enjoyed the turbo content! Looks like fun project. It's so good to have a random stach of parts to take from. That's what I enjoy the most. Just go around the yard and find the right part, b230 engine, whatever you need is there!🤣. Tons of fun provided by Editor Dean! A perfect sunday!❤
The stash was purely unintentional! Its nice when I can make something work with the stuff I have laying around. Cheers Marcin!!
Hey! I’m currently workin on a blow through Setup for my 87 mighty max pickup. I’m really excited to see how you’re plays out! Please keep posting updates!
That sounds like an awesome little project!
Awesome video! Just found your channel and it gives me hope to find a Volvo wagon one day. You’re a genius. Found one with a pristine condition, only 53k miles but junkyard didn’t have the title. Ended up scrapping it. Currently daily drive 92 240 sedan and a 96 960 and a Miata. Wife says one has to go, but I love driving them all 😅
Thank you and welcome aboard! Show the lady the channel, “we aren’t that bad baby!”
Bro you’re too funny! I’m excited for the first start
Thanks Drew! Me too! Ive always wanted to do a setup like this.
Brother all them Volvos you have in your backyard , believe me if i had money i will ask you to fix them and ship them to me they are beautiful.😊👍👊🤟
Thank you Maurice! I hope to have a shop space soon enough where I can keep them nice and safe! A lift would be great too.
LOL i too have had the running car with a wiring harness that had scorch marks on the outer jacket, various uninsulated wires and what looks like a broken candy necklace on the ground after swapped
Isnt it great!? I dont know what else you might want from a wiring harness.
a couple chassis wires need restored also, e.g. the k-jet diag wire is all crispy
Sounds like a great idea. Turbo into carbie. Have you considered the higher pressure the turbo will introduce to the combustion chambers? Not just the higher pressure the turbo provides but also the higher pressure during combustion. I am far from an expert. But I think turbo engines have lower compression ratio to compensate for the higher charge the turbo puts in. Tell me what I'm missing. Anyway, have fun, I want to see if it works.
That 240 GLE looks beautiful. Cheers.
The b23 non turbo motor shouldn’t be too high of compression to really matter. You are right to ask about it though.
Tip: clamp all vacuum hoses as they will see boost, also check valves on distributor and brake booster is a good idea.
Youre right! No clamps were used during this mock up.
Neat bit of kit bashing for a mockup!
I've never understood where on earth we got the whole Redblock nomenclature from for this era of engines. Back beyond the B16 Volvo had painted their blocks red (not today though). The sensible enthusiast/fan description should be OHC or B21-B23-B230 🤣The B20B in my 1970 142S has the OEM red paint. It's not like let us say . . AMC that painted its California compliant engines green for a time to denote destination region.
I have always thought they were a bit orange personally lol.
Thank you Dean for another great video. Please keep them coming.
Thank you For the comment David!!
More coming at you!
i hope you know that the casting number on the head for a turbo engine ends with 531 for b230 and you need at least the valves from that head because the are filled with natrium for cooling, i cant remember the casting number for heads for b21/b23 engines. And check for cracks in the turbo manifold, almost all of them are cracked.
We dont intend on stressing this motor too much. The manifold used is actually cracked.
It’s a project shitbox, why worry about cracks when you know it’s intended life span is one half of 10 minutes? If it works well and makes it through the test phase, then worry about sodium filled valves and welding up cracks.
Sick rimpz
I would love to see some turbo deisel Jeep content!
Its due for some love!
Let’s see how this turns out, it’s fun though! Love 💕 it!
It’ll be interesting!
Tore up hole 😂😂😂 that what he said
Sometimes life tears you up a little bit.
Yeah, I heard that too! Cheeky Dean! LOL
First at all, why not build a Turbo as original with fuel injection? I had three of Volvo turbo in the 90s. Two 244 with 2.1l and 2.3l and one 760 with 2,3 intecooler.
Great question. This car seemed like an opportunity for me to try something new and learn in the process. I have other LH and MS turbo cars. Trying something different
As I was sitting here pondering whether or not to turbo my 242 b200k, here you show up! So here is something I do know if you want to do this and make it actually run.
You're going to have to drill out the main jet for the carb, make it a bit bigger. But this you can do in stages as you test drive it and you feel like you do not have enough fuel in it.
I guess that is the box you're installing so you will not have to remove the old throttle flaps and get a new throttle body, but will that box hold the boost? I've only ever seen welded boxes. Never bolted on with a gasket. Some sort of kit?
What I found while researching was some people use this intake hat. The choke mechanism needs to be removed and hole sealed. If this intake setup turns into a problem, I’ll be forced to fabricate a “box” as you call it.
I do intend on buying a jet kit as well as running a wideband 02 sensor.
Im not sure about throttle enrichment. Maybe it can be jetted. Most of all, Im still learning.
Thank you for the in-depth comment!
@@DeanofMachines Wait so you still have to remove the choke? I assumed the reason for the box was to keep it. Is the only reason why you have this box then to not have to weld one?
And for the choke delete. People seem to have various methods for overcoming cold starting issues. I reckon spraying some starting fluid down the intake is one cheap way to bypass it. But I have heard of people installing injector systems in the intake only meant to get the engine running.
Fuel jetting will vary I say car to car. Which is probably why the best thing is to drill it yourself as you figure things out. Rather than ordering new jets constantly.
Why do you want to install wideband o2? Is it to see if it is lean/rich?
Прекрасный VOLVO❤❤❤
Thank you kindly!
😎👍
Thanks bud
How many Volvos do you have?
Currently, too many. 7 240s, 2 Amazons
Can you really have too many? Old Volvos need love and it’s obvious you care for these amazing pieces of machinery. @@DeanofMachines
@@judahfreeman8896 I truly do love these fun little cars. They should be saved and enjoyed as much as possible!
jeep yessssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssss
My mann!! I would love to get into the jeep a bit!!
Nice sloppy seconds joke. Haha.
