Huge thumbs up to that Adam chap for coming to your rescue fair play to him 👍👍👍
Check out his channel @livingwithaclassic hes a great guy with superb car
@@furiousdriving I keep replaying the Mexican food shot. Nachos, burrito, quesadilla in Sweden ?! And why does the 740 sound like a tractor?
@@swagedelic cause it is old fashioned diesel engine.
@@kamrankhan-lj1ng Ah, that explains it, I was paying attention to the engine.
@@swagedelic No, just a typical Volvo petrol sound. We had a 740 as a family car, same colour as this too, and they all sound the same.
Drive a volvo from uk to sweden just to get towed by a jaguar. Still one of the greatest road trips i've seen.
Living with a furious classic. Adam is the man!
Beautiful panoramic shots of the Belt bridge! And huge props to Adam for coming to the rescue. A Swede in a English car rescuing two English chaps in a Swedish car 😄 Great place and collection Adam has. Can't wait to see part 3!
wow. another amazing video. Adam is a such legend for rescuing you, and for showing his classic car collection. what a amazing guy 👍
Well done Adam you saved the day ! - Amazing collection of vintage Jaguars and that great Rover ! - Very entertaining - Great stuff ! 👍👍👍👍👍
I'm amazed at the number of folks from Scandinavia who tuned in to the premiere tonight. As well as the number of folks in the UK that have visited Sweden. I guess your Volvo and Swedish trip perked up many folks interest.
I think so, its not far and surprisingly similar place but far enough to seem different
A Swedish stalwart of reliability rescued by one of Britain's polar opposites. Who'd have thought it eh.
Brilliant footage so far of your trip , absolute dream trip taking a car home 👍
thought you meant me for a moment...
The irony of a 70s Jag rescuing a Volvo was not lost on me...!
I love that two Brits travel to Sweden in an old Swedish car and are rescued by a Swede, in Sweden in an old British car. Good thing it happened when it did and it did make for some great content. Proof again of what a great bunch the classic car community are.
Loved the bridge shots too. I went from Copenhagen to Malmo a few years ago but by train and it was impressive.
I keep wandering around my flat singing your video background music to myself too. Definite hints of Kraftwerk
So glad that the glorious Volvo has visited it's birth place, thanks for the good content Matt!
That was a fantastically timed transition with that right turning Volvo at 28:42!
What a hero! Well done, Adam!
Volvos are great, and just love to be driven.
I love how he was filming him driving out of the parking lot to pick him up and he didnt notice the trunk open 🤣
cant see much on the back of a GoPro
About 20yrs ago a Swedish guy I worked with couldn't believe how cheap old Jags were here compared to Sweden. He bought an XJS and drove it back for his Dad. I think they've always appreciated them more
Great road trip and quite relaxing seeing some great scenery, the road over the sea was especially memorable. Great to see Adam and his superb collection of cars, loving his Rover P6, and what a great chap coming to your rescue. Looking forward to part 3.
Adam - total legend
Adam’s collection is amazing and that Rover….. just WOW, never seen a red P6 before. Also the vintage Johnson outboards in the background are very interesting too!!
Monza seemed to be the most popular colour for a while, 'resale red', Id lover a Paprika one.
What a lovely chap Adam is! So nice of him to come to your rescue.
What a top bloke Adam is and another great video Matt 👍
Really enjoyed the trip in the Volvo 740, good to get the old girl out! Something about the 740 shape I really like the angles, some say boxy but it's not as bulky as the 240. Swedish roads look really open and panoramic too.
We did a railway tour of Sweden in the 1980s at the time they used boat trains, big ferries with railway lines on them, to get into Sweden it was a very strange The train rolled off the ferry and came to a station when we heard the sound of marching soldiers which was the border guards they came on board, wearing full military uniform with the peak of their hat going well over their face, it was really frightening thinking what sort of country are we coming to, when we looked out of the window to see that the station was next to a nudist beach. We were trying to look serious for these border guards, but we just couldn’t stop laughing. Sweden I’ve got to say is the most one of the beautiful places I’ve ever been to and the people were extremely friendly. And of course I love Volvos, especially the big ones i’ve owned over the years a 245 estate, 340 a 440 and a 740 estate I’m Not so keen on them now they don’t look like Volvos now they just look like any other car thank you for this video, and thank you for the trip down memory lane
Brilliant, real world roadtrip, including breakdowns! Great to see Adam and his collection of classics, what a star he was helping you to continue your journey.
Loads of people waiting on this video before it starts 🤗
I don’t know why but I almost felt slightly teary as you drove into Sweden in that beautiful 740- she had come home. A very momentous occasion to a Volvo fan for sure! That bridge/s were stunning! Absolutely beautiful! Shame about the breakdown but it didn’t stop you getting there! Wow, what a great video Matt!
It did feel good and so lucky to have Adam nearby
@furiousdriving was an epic rescue and he's such a cool guy. Such a lucky coincidence that was so close yet you already knew him. The international family of car enthusiasts ❤️
Great video. Only a minor hiccup but goes to show how good this car still is. Looking forward to the next one.
Hi Matt, I thoroughly enjoyed this video. The scenery, bridges, people, music. What a gent Adam is. Quite the adventure!
Glad you were able to fix the car, top notch video again guys! 👌🏼😁
IT was so lucky it was simple
adam to the rescue love his channel nice to have connections in different countrys international rescue lol great trip so far matt all the best donny
You jammy gits, breaking down that close to Adam.
The Bridge between Denmark and Sweden absolutely amazing and mind blowing to imagine it being built!
Absolutely fantastic series, and the cross over / rescue from Adam was quite a treat - some lovely lovely jags and that P6 is something very special indeed. Glad the Volvo repair wasnt too tricky, those pressure bleeders are worth their weight in gold. I'd love to do a similar type of roadtrip one day, you've inspired me! Not sure I'd trust my P38 with it though 😂😃
Thank God for Adam it seems!
The old structures at the Great Belt Bridge is the old ferry Terminal, from before the bridge was build
Almost wet myself with the P6, Monza Red - probably the best colour of the lot and that sandlewood interior!! Exactly like my old one in the respect of E.T. headrests and rear headrests (they're more obtainable than you suggested certainly not the rarest option by a long stretch). Cracking video again you had lots of fun :)
This is a great road trip, added to the bucket list 👍😎 What a stunning Jaaaag to get rescued by 🤩
The paint on his rover v8 is amazing amd that 2 door jag ❤❤❤
Sponsors so good they were mentioned twice
Brilliant content have watched both parts so far, very interesting, the old volvo has done well
Great video Matt, your fellow UA-camr was very kind helping you out. What a great collection of cars he has, it would be difficult picking a favorite though.
top bloke adam, thanks for helping out a uk volvo.
Great video Matt. Greatly looking forward to the next part. Greetings from Canterbury 😊
Thoroughly enjoying this series of videos Matt, thanks for sharing.
The bridge looks amazing, what a magnificent piece of engineering it is.
The Volvo breaking down so far from home was not good but clearly fate was smiling on you. Not only did Adam rescue you and help you fix the problem but you also had a look at his car collection. Adam has some gorgeous cars there, the P6 looks stunning and I think the XJ6 coupes are beautiful.
Look forward to part 3 of this series.
Cheers, this was great. Adam's barn collection was superb as well 😍
Nice to see the Great Belt and Oresund bridges from the car after seeing them previously as a train passenger.
Excellent part 2 Matt, lucky Adam wasn't too far away, really nice guy and great channel.
It was so lucky!
The Bridge - a Scandi noir series - started on that bridge. I remember watching ep1 and the lights go out for 30 secs then when they come back on there is a body right on the border line. Then they find out the dismembered corpse is in fact to different dead people. Then they find out that the body on the Danish side is Swedish in origin and the body on the Swedish side is Danish and I was like " oh now you have piqued my interest " - Great series.
Two great ABBA songs would have been appropriate that day:
1) 'SOS' :
"Whatever happened to our car?
I wish I understood
It used to be so nice,
It used to be so good."
2) 'Super Trouper' :
"Today the Super Trooper Adam's going to find me
Shining like the sun (Sup-p-per Troop-p-per)
Smiling, having fun (Sup-p-per Troop-p-per)
Feeling like a Number 1"
👱♂👱♀👩🧔♂
The harbour before you went onto the Greatbelt bridge was the old ferry harbour from before the bridge was build - Storebælt Ferries - They went from 1883 until 1998
ah thanks, so people sailed to Sweden from there
@@furiousdriving No - They sailed from where the 2 bridges startet - the harbour where you did the drone shot to where you paid 270 DKR for passing the bridge !
Video from just before they stopped and the bridge was completed
ua-cam.com/video/nCOTKtDlGao/v-deo.html
@@winddiesel It seems hard for Matt to wrap his head around the fact that you have to drive across two large bridges to reach Sweden😄
@@AlfaGiuliaQV + Lillebælt = 3 bridges 🙂
1. Awesome Volvo
2. Awesome jags and Adam
3. Awesome trip
I once took my Beetle on a road trip to Germany and back when I was 19 years old - paid extra for EU breakdown cover, and typically it didn't miss a beat UNTIL I got off the ferry back in Dover and the clutch cable snapped, and was left in a similar situation to you! 🤦♂ Being young and reckless I proceeded to drive it all the way home to Bath with no clutch - just rev match between gears and try not to stop - but if you must stop, try to stop in gear and then bump start on the starter motor, so it is possible if you're in a real pinch!
Bought my friends company 2.3 petrol auto estate with 120k. I sold it at 150k as couldn’t afford fuel towing did 18 mpg. Sold it to another friend who ran it to 300 k miles without event. Was most comfortable lovely car i ever had but the fuel was horrendous when towing m6 waterski boat to competitions.
Excellent 2 part vid I was in Gothenburg last year great city
Great video, Matt. So glad you didn't edit out the breakdown as some other channels/tv shows seem to do. Thank you for that and big shout out to Adam for being so helpful. Those bridges are phenomenal too. Odense has a football club that has played in Europe on many occasions. On a slightly different subject though, have you ever wondered why the Swedish police have the Scottish word on their vehicles? "Polis."
I'm a Lambo driver and I just saw a great Volvo......yipee
Love seeing of all the cars to rescue you it's an old Jaguar, not a van, not a European saloon of the last 15 years a great Jaguar
The irony!
That was very nice of Adam. That Volvo is not exactly a light car to tow in an even older car!
It’s absolutely fantastic to see one of the cars be used for a trip! Gives a point to all the maintenance. Loving it 👍🏻
Great series of vids, fantastic roadtrip with some amazing scenery . Also oving the banter between you 2!
That little beach where you flew the drone from near the great belt bridge, is a place I´ve been many times to pick the rose hips berries (tons of it), to sell to a factory on the island. lol!
Great video, I love a road trip!
Fantastic second Part to the Road Trip Matt and Barry and well done to Adam for helping you out with the breakdown and getting you on the road again!
That Red P6 through.....❤❤
Looking forward to the next part already.
I was kind of jealous how lucky he was to buy a barn find and get a P6 in that condition!
Fascinating! Loving this series.
Cracking road trip!
really good road trip series. Thanks
A road trip👌👌👌👌 great content as usual
Another good video and great scenery 🚘🚙🚗👍👍👍👍👍⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Absolutely love this, thoroughly enjoyed every bit.
Loved that. A very helpful friend
Omg can't wait! :D
Again an enjoyable episode Matt! Felt really engulfed in the adventure :)
And great relief the clutch repair turned out to be not too complicated!
My dad used to have a rover p6 in lunar grey brings back memories of the old classic car shows in the 90s
Great to see Adam in this video. Looks like an amazing adventure so far, excellent double act - more of this please
That view of the bridge is going to disappoint flat earthers 😮
ha! No, its a trick bridge that gets lower at both ends...or something
It was great that you met Adam... I've been following his channel for at least a year now.. and of course he's got a P6 now!.. yay.. (Phil)
Sweden is a country I would love to visit one day - it seems so civilised. Mindful of comments made elsewhere, if I ever restore my BMW E34 I'd love to drive it to Munich (although I think the 5ers were built in Dingolfing?)
The E34 is the 'Ultimate Driving Machine' and needs to be driven. No "ifs" Howard, only "when"! 😎
20:37 clutch gone to sleep...big feeling of panic.!!..i have been in that situation myself and had to push the volvo home ...great video and thanks..always fancied doing this trip myself...immingham might be a better place to start.
The most unusual situation: an old Jag towing an old Volvo! And of course no Swedes will be swearing at you when you were stranded at the roadside in one of the toughest cars they've built.
The first time I've driven into Scandinavia was in 1994, in an Opel Kadett which conveniently broke down at a motorway services: the throttle cable broke. Being an old Opel, it could be fixed with simple tools and same as you. I didn't bring that tool of course. Breakdown assistance was hesistant to make an emergency repair (rather towed the car to a garage, which were closed for the weekend anyway), bribed him with a few bottles of Grolsch beer we had with us so we could go on our way.
I've visited the Volvo museum in Göteborg and the Saab museum back in 2015, sadly not in a Volvo nor Saab, but great places to visit none the less.
These days I find AA/recovery guys are much more keen to try and fix old cars as its more interesting than the regular problems they get, its a bit of a fun challenge for them!
@@furiousdriving oh yes, I've had many breakdowns in the Matra Murena and every time the ANWB guy (Dutch counterpart of the AA) was happy to work on such simple mechanics. One elderly guy even knew exactly what the problem was, because he used to work on the cars when they were new, in fact he needed more time to get the correct spanner than fixing the actual problem. And then took a 10 minute walk on memory lane!
Should've blasted out some ABBA whilst driving in Sweden!
I was thinking exactly the same after watching Part 1!
Two great ABBA songs would have been appropriate that day:
1) 'SOS' :
"Whatever happened to our car?
I wish I understood
It used to be so nice,
It used to be so good."
2) 'Super Trouper' :
"Today the Super Trooper Adam's going to find me
Shining like the sun (Sup-p-per Troop-p-per)
Smiling, having fun (Sup-p-per Troop-p-per)
Feeling like a Number 1"

I worked in Sweden some years ago and stayed in both Gothenburg and Trollhättan and in the morning when I looked out of the window in Trollhättan every car in sight was a Saab! Not quite the same in Göteborg but still a lot of Volvos.😅
Great to see Adam from Living With A Classic , helping you out , love his channel too. Not a major , with the Volvo then , going well.
I want to do the same trip in my Volvo, loved the videos Matt
Well Matt you did want a bit of jeopardy… however I’m sure you hadn’t bargained on that much. Well done for pulling out of that nosedive.. looking forward to seeing the rest of the trip!
Beautiful countries.
I noticed in the "Mix" suggested by YT that the Volvo appears with a road warning triangle. I had reason to use mine the other day when my BMW E60 failed to proceed, after a number of near-misses due to abysmal driving and a seemingly-advisory 30mph speed limit. It lasted less than ten minutes before someone drove over it...
A fantastic series of videos Matt. The videos of the Volvo during lockdown were a great source of entertainment, and to think it was only meant to be around for a short while. I’ve been wanting to take my own Volvo on a big trip somewhere for a while, I think this series has decided the trip for me.
Great video, can't wait for part 3. Is it coming today (Sunday)?. Fun to see people from other countries visiting Sweden in their Swedish car. Volvo Museum is great, if you have time, you can drive to Trollhättan to visit the Saab museum as well.
Another great video, at least the breakdown was nothing too serious, good that Adam was close by.👍
Some spectacular scenery with the harbour, bridges and tunnels making it worth traveling for.
The classic Jag XJ amd Volvo make for a good looking breakdiwn if there is such a thing... A classy combination there.
I did womder when the gears started playing up if it was the clutch at fault. A few years ago the hydraulic clutch failed in my wifes Fiat 500 but i was able to reciver the car and drive it home, then to a garage the following day by starting the car in gear and rev matching in order to crash through the gears smoothly. Any ooint where i had to stop neutral was engaged while rolling and the process of starting the car in gear repeated. Not so bad to get you home but not ideal when your in an unfamiliar country hundreds of miles from home. As you said in the previous video though the added jeopardy makes for interesting UA-cam viewing.
Nice to see Adams car collection. ThebJags are stunning but im.a sucker for a P6 V8.
A simple repair on the Volvo 240 and you found a fellow you tuber and a very nice collection of Jaguars a Rover and a landcrab Worsley and that bridge goes on forever a great trip video
Barry is a joy, I'd happily have him along as a co-driver on any road trip. I don't know if the clutch issue was 'staged', heaven forfend. But it did occur suspiciously close to Adam's place and near a service station and was then easily fixed, buy hey it made for some entertaining content and took in a tour of Adam's collection. Either way, I really enjoyed it!😎👍
Not staged, genuine failure, which is always an option
@@furiousdriving Ok, I apologise, I take it all back! 🤦♂
It's just that I used to own a 740GL 2.3 estate with 220k miles and it never missed a beat, so 'failure' was never a part of Volvo vocabulary. Only bought as a stop gap for a couple of tip runs, but it was so comfortable and reliable that I ended up keeping it for several years. Watching your videos, I do miss it now! 😢
And I suppose you expect me to believe that 'Shell' tanker wasn't staged either?... that you didn't pay the driver to crawl past the wind turbines just as you were filming?.... p'thhf, you must think I was born yesterday!
A perfect place to break down ! It could have been on the bridge or tunnels 😲👍🏴
The breakdown was very intelligent in its thinking.
Nice trip - wish i could join in this trip with mine 740 2.3 turbo from Latvia, mine is in the same color and the same interior. I always wanted to make a trip to Sweden where mine was made. Maybe next year.😜
What an exciting adventure!
I wonder if rev matching would have worked in that situation...?
Anyhow, thanks for sharing!
Back in the day I drive my 1983 metro to Scotland. The clutch slave cylinder fractured en route and I had to limp the last 30 miles in 3rd gear. It finally conked out the next day and The AA came out and bled it which let me drive to the nearest garage to get it fixed.
That for me was an "Epic" journey. Thank the Lord you were able to call upon someone. From your (contacts) list to assist. Phew...
Please do more of these road journies, MATT (sorry for calling you "Chris" in a previous post!)....My biggest pleasures in life are cars (particularly classics), travel (especially the UK and Europe), and a good road trip. What better way to put purpose into a road trip then to bring the Volvo back to its nest? I think McDonalds best demonstrates its purpose here....I've always found that if you want food quickly and don't want to put much thought into an order, McDonalds was always great for any US road trips, but on a journey across Europe, where time and speed are of importance, it takes the guesswork out of food and drink. That familiarity and consistency is the plus side of multinational corporations. That being said, our interests diverge with regards to the tea shelf....I never eat or drink in my cars! Thanks, Matt! As always, a magnificent and upbeat presentation!
It looks as if you were both getting on each others nerves lol
Matt, did you suggest at about 29:00 that Barry is a big spanner? That’s not v friendly :)
Ps. Always amazed at how most Swedes speak English better than a majority of brits (innit). Must be something in the air, or the education system. My old mate Sven is the same: you’d barely know he wasn’t from somewhere in the south of England.
Säg hej till Saga Norén för mig, Matt! 😁👍
Living with a classic is one of my other favourite channels
Fantastic video boys but isn't always the thing not having the right size scanner d'oh when bleeding the clutch you could get your assistant to pump the pedal at least half a dozen times and hold the pedal down you undo the the bleed nipple and the retighten it and repeat the process until you hopefully have a pedal that's if you haven't access to a pressure bleeder
