This was terrific. I knew some of these. I did not know them all. Multicam especially has been so disk-thirsty lately. Toggling optimized media off and seeing how it goes! Thanks!
Always new things to learn in FCPX - me included! So glad you’ll be able to save some disk space - I have a feeling that multicams with original media should be no problem for you. Midland Pictures quad core? Please upgrade to the 10 or 12 core 2690 or 2697, makes a huge difference especially for render times and transcoding times when creating optimized media. Of course the exporting times as well. I have a vid on my channel, takes less than an hour.
Henrik Lindblom Yes! I’ve been meaning to snag a 12-core on eBay but just haven’t done it yet. I have a big project for a client starting soon with a 4K C300 MkII & MkIII workflow so I definitely want to get a performance boost out of my Mac Pro while I still have it. Hoping to upgrade to the new Mac Pro in the next year or so.
Midland Pictures If you’re buying the new Mac Pro you can get the 8 core 2650 really cheap, it is 80 bucks here in Sweden lower base freq but it is 8 cores.
Henrik Lindblom And that would be a huge upgrade over what I have now. For some reason I want to hold out for a 12+ core configuration. Maybe 16-core. Just get crazy and go for it... 🤷🏻♂️🤑

I was sitting with my client yesterday editing and going a little crazy. He was saying where is this footage of the young girls greeting winton Marsalis in Cuba. From your help I format my 500 SSD. External hard drive and am setting everything up the way you recommended. Thank you again. This can be a game changing project for me. Your work flow is going to make me look great. Thank you again!!!!
Yup, you gotta be able to pull up your footage fast - having it organized in folders, keyword collections is a great start but logging your footage and making it quickly searchable is even better. Glad you learned some new tricks!
I noticed that most of your comments were a year ago. As a FCP user for over 10 years, I realized that I am a creator who knows enough information to be dangerous, but not enough to avoid many of your 10 mistakes. Thanks for your great delivery, you are the best I have listened to in my 10 years. I will now "check-out your shop and see what you offer. Good Job!! I hope you are still around and sharing the latest mistakes I can make as a creator.
I'm also thinking about what mistakes I can steer new FCP editors away from. Hoping to follow up this vid in the coming months! Thanks so much for watching, Joni!
Your films are great. Informative, no waffle, well explained and well thought out. These are gonna be a great help for lots of FCPX users. I hope you get a ton of subscribers to make these worth it. Respect Matt.
You’re too kind! I hope they help advance a lot FCPX-ers. And yeah, the additional subs are never bad. Income from this will certainly help me to produce more and better content. Love doing it!
I am a new user trying out FCPX after using Premiere for many years. Got my brain wired in the wrong way by editing all these years in the wrong way. After some time digging through FCPX I am impressed and still want to learn more. Your tutorials help a lot. These shortcuts man.....my goodness so many I need to memorize to make it work properly. I have a basic idea of how this works in FCPX. Through some video projects I may get to know more by working more. My sincere heartfelt thanks to you sir!
You are welcome! The hardest part is unlearning track-based editing and making your brain understand the Magnetic Timeline. It is a tricky thing to get the hang of, but focusing on the keyboard shortcuts and menu options that make it really work well are very important. I'm glad my tutorials are helping - keep at it, and you can always comment on my videos or reach out on Instagram and I'll try to help if I can!
Whoa! That's an incredible compliment! Truly makes me thrilled to be creating content that's connecting with editors. So glad you're leveling up your FCPX editing!
I’m about to begin my first project with an M1: 8 GB. Didn’t know when I bought it that I might need more. Just loading 4K from the iPad and phone has filled up my internal drive, so once I can export and recover this space, I was panicked about rendering the project, even with an SSD for external storage. Now I can make a plan. I am so grateful.
Congrats on the new M1! Check out my other vid on how to preserve hard drive space when editing in Final Cut Pro: ua-cam.com/video/buBp0MvDr30/v-deo.html
Matthew, your content is some of the best out there; you’re very clear and (perhaps weird to say?) soothing and pleasing and the videos look nice and are full of no bs practical wisdom. Thanks again!
Not weird at all! I've gotten that feedback a few times, so I'm glad my demeanor and presentation make it easy for viewers to connect. And thanks for the love on Twitter, too! You're welcome - gonna check you out on Twitch!
It's my mission to make certain everyone who edits with Final Cut Pro understands these core concepts so that they don't have to suffer when using and managing the application but rather they can get into the creative flow and stay there so they can keep making awesome vids!
Thanks for pointing out that some people are creatives, and don't feel so comfortable with the mechanics, I haven't really heard that acknowledged before and I feel better that I can't be the only one. Obviously I need to do the technical stuff as well and I want to because I like to have control over my own work. I also am a bit OCD and like to have my files in order. Can't work otherwise. FCP can be frustrating in this regard, but thank you for showing us how to manage them. For myself at least, it's so important
I don't hear it acknowledged often either. The most I've heard it acknowledged is in TV and Film where editors rely on their assistant editors to handle a lot of the technical-minded things while the editor is focusing on using their art/craft to help the director achieve his/her vision. Of course there are plenty of gigs below that where editors don't have an assistant editor or a post-production supervisor and they're on their own to manage it all. Which is unfortunate. Glad to meet a fellow OCD with organization editor. And I, personally, feel FCP is the *best* with file organization - but it's taken years of learning all the details and nuances of the software to fully understand how to take advantage of its powerful organization tools. Thanks for watching and commenting!
Extremely helpful and constructive video. I learned 5 or 6 new things and you answered another 3 or 4 questions. Thank you! Love your style and you are a great teacher.
Absolutely outstanding video. Best advice on FCPX I’ve seen in a long time. Professional, practical and am so glad I stumbled upon your channel. Well done, sir!. I use FCPX all the time, and you nailed it.
I have been a Final Cut editor since the very earliest days. I bought FCPX on June 11th 2011, the day it was released. I love it, but don't use it to its full capacity. Not even close! I am one of the more creative types, not the techy type as you made reference to. There was so much essential information here that I had learned and forgotten or had never even learned…your way of teaching is Superb. This is the single best FCPX video I have ever viewed and you are easily the best presenter/teacher of FCPX. I will now jump into my editor bay. Thank you. And of course, subbed!
Welcome to the channel, Larry! And thank you so much for the kind words. This video's getting close to 100k views (my third!), and I couldn't be happier that I'm able to teach editors with all kinds of different backgrounds new things about Final Cut Pro. Plenty more FCP content on my channel - hope you're able to learn even more once you've viewed some of it. Thanks for your sub!
I have never opened final cut and I’ve barely ever edited any video but I watched this entire video. Your explanation is so clear and concise that I can’t believe I subscribed. Now i want to learn FCPX just cos of how you talk about it. I hope oneday I’ll meet a girl that talks about me the way you talk about the magnetic timeline
i thumbsed up for that intro ! also, thi sis such a great video--i've had issues w/ all these and fuck, i wish this video was around a few months ago b/c it was such a pain trying to find 5-6 diff videos to answer what u covered in one, well done sir
What’s going on right here brother...Your channel you have at least 100k subscribers, but I don’t know anything, all I know is that you have a superior and excellent content on your channel. Thanks so much! New subscriber just now.
Thanks for the kinds words, Phillip! 100k subs would be insane! Thanks for watching and subscribing! So excited to grow this channel and help all my viewers level up their filmmaking!
@@matthewTobrien May I please ask you a question? When editing out clips, I have noticed that sometimes the audio (slightly ahead of the cut) is silent during playback. It almost seems like that small part of audio was cut out accidentally but I see the audio waves and know I cut in the correct place. Is there anything you can think of that could remedy this? (I am using a 2016 MacBook Pro with the library and editing done on an external WD drive.)
@@101hamilton Your description of the issue doesn’t immediately make me think of a simple fix or understand exactly what is happening. You should join Final Cut Pro X Users and Final Cut Pro User Group on Facebook and post about your issue there. Maybe include a screenshot or a short video (with audio) of the issue so I and the community can take a look and try to help!
@@matthewTobrien Thank you again. Great suggestion and I will do that. One last question. You come across great on camera. You speak well and patiently make otherwise difficult concepts become doable for the average person. Was it just natural for you or did you go through your own ‘learning curve’ to get to this great, polished point?
Definitely the way to go when wrapping up a project. Hasn’t been an issue for me, but I know a lot of FCPXers who don’t know how to do this. We’ll all get there eventually! Thanks for watching. 👌🏻🙌🏻
This video felt like a personal attack. Everything from the limited 250g MacBook running out of space to using handbrake. I REALLY needed to see this video thanks so much I learned A LOT and you saved me so much time 😭😭
Big thumbs up for this video. I really click with the speed you talk at and your concise basic explanations. You manage to answer questions without going into further unexplained gobbledegook in the process of discussing something. A lot of YT’s make beginner tutorials that in their explanation, create even more questions without considering demystifying what they’re on about along the way.
That is incredibly kind of you to say! And it means a lot to me to hear that - I'm so thrilled this channel is connecting with new and existing FCPX users alike, and I'm excited to get more filmmaking content on the channel!
Again I can’t express my gratitude enough. You are going to make me look like a extremely organized video edit after my episode with my client on Wednesday. I was looking for this one video clip for about a hour. When I meet with him again on Friday. Your world flow is going to make me blow his mind how quickly I will be able to find clips. Thanks again!!!
You're so welcome, Edward! Glad you're going to invest the time into logging your footage so you can get solid results for your client - nothing's worse than sitting in the edit bay with a client who wants to see a particular clip and you can't quickly find it. Keep improving! And thanks for watching my vids. 🙌🏻🤘🏻
As a new FCP user and coming from Davinci, your videos have really been helpful. I appreciate you taking the time to create these videos to make working in FCP easier. Keep up the great work!
Appreciate the kind words, Spencer! I'm a big fan of DaVinci and everything Blackmagic is doing to improve the software - I use it frequently for transcoding and processing dailies when I'm on set, but I will always be an FCPX editor! Thanks for watching and don't hesitate to reach out if you ever need help!
Thank you! I’ve been working professionaly with FCPX for so many years and love it. But there are things that I dont understand that you so brilliantly explain to me! Thank you!
Great videos Matthew. Just recently turned my back on Premier after using it for many years. Dipped my toes in the water with FCPX whist working with the BBC in 2017 and now use it as my go to edit system. Your info is making my life so much easier. Had a large edit this week and stumbled over your channel while I was working on it, and I am now speeding up my workflow. Many thanks to you.
That is amazing to hear! Honestly, it gets me pumped for creating more content and fielding questions in the comments. I've seen FCPX's adoption ramp up significantly in the UK and Europe, especially on shows where there is a TON of content from dozens of cameras (sporting events, etc.). It is such an amazing tool, and I'm glad you've found it to be essential in your video editing arsenal. Thanks so much for watching and subscribing! Excited to hear more about your work with the BBC. 🙌🏻🤘🏻👏🏻
I am even more excited to checking out your contents after fully watching this, I’m amazed how Pro you are. 🙌🏼🎉 Thanks very much for everything you done. 👏🏼
This is truly excellent and invaluable for countless people, I knew most of this but learned it the hard way and it took years!! Learn this and save yourself a lot of time and frustration!
I’m hoping because I’ve only been doing FCPX tutorials for 6 months, and it just hasn’t fully caught on yet... 🤷🏻♂️ I guess ya’ll just need to like, share, subscribe even more! 🤣🙌🏻
Love to hear that, Brandon! Glad they have value for you, and I hope all the tips and tricks help you get faster and more efficient with your own content creation! 🙌🏻🤘🏻
So I finally decided to turn off the automatic background Rendering, I just bought a 16GB and 256GB M1 Mac mini and was suffering with the project file size but I made some tests and this little beast can handle 4K footage from FilmicPro without rendering just fine, also tried Multicam and played smoothly, I came from LumaFusion on the iPad Pro and the logic behind rendering there is completely different but very polished none the less, again, thanks a lot for the amazing video!
Thank You! This video has helped massively, with my editing I have spent hours figuring out how to fix these problems! But now this video has solved them all! Brilliant
So great to hear that! Glad it was helpful. Let me know if there’s anything else that’s making getting proficient with FCP difficult. Always looking for new things to make videos about! 🙌🏻🤘🏻
@@matthewTobrien Hello, again! I find that whenever I edit on Final Cut Pro X my media gets compressed, I was wondering if you can set how much you want your media to be compressed? And when I upload my video to UA-cam, it is completely different quality to the edited version. Again is there anything to fix this? Thanks
You may have FCP set to create Proxy media when you import footage. You can go to Preferences > Import in FCP to disable the "create proxy media" option. Uploading to UA-cam is always going to add compression - not only when you export out of Final Cut but when UA-cam does THEIR thing to your video to make it more compatible with their platform. I export all of my vids simply using the UA-cam/Facebook preset built in to FCP, and when I watch back on my phone or AppleTV it looks excellent. As long as HD and 4K processing has completed (which can take a while depending on the source codec of your video and the video's length). Just remember, if you upload your video and immediately publish it, you're only going to be able to view their Standard Definition version right away and that version always looks like hot garbage.
Matthew, Once again you provide terrific information. I've been using FCP for years but never learned some of the things you presented here. I'll keep looking for your "beginner" videos so that I don't embarrass myself by not knowing something. Thanks so much!
Haha - sounds good! So glad you're getting value out of my vids. Definitely hoping to elevate everyone's editing and storytelling. Thanks for watching!
Thank you. I got a better understanding of working with FCPX. I always copy my video files into my FCPX library. After this I will leave my files in folders in my finder. I’m not great on going looking for stuff due to using so many external hard drives. Yet I get tired of seeing my hard showing limited space on the drive.
Yeah, this can be a common issue with some editors. I know how expensive mass storage can be, but unfortunately a lot of editors end up with a ton of random external hard drives that they have to navigate. Although some can handle, I personally could never stand it. Splurging on even a used Promise Pegasus2 R4 with 3 or 4GB hard drives (to make 12 to 16TB of total storage) is highly recommended. There's one on eBay right now (with 12TB) for $800 or best offer: ebay.us/T2qmMq
That means a lot, Edward! Thanks for the kind words. This video was really personal in the sense that I had been seeing so many FCP editors (new and veteran) posting a lot of the same issues over and over again in forums and Facebook groups, and I just had to take all of the most common ones and provide insight and solutions. So glad this video is connecting with viewers. Thanks for watching!
This is the single best Explanation video about the hidden boring (but insanely important) stuff, in FCPX. I’ve been editing for 6 years and I got most of the stuff covered by now, but really wish I had this video 4 years ago. Thanks man 🙏👏💯
So kind of you to say, Benjamin! I wish I had made this video (and the channel) 4 years ago! Feel like I've missed out on really helping editors like you earlier on... Never too late, though! Thanks for watching, brother!
Nicely done. Been an FCP Studio and FCPX editor for for 15 years (an editor for 30). Am sending your file to a couple of our new editors... I’ve also explained these issues, however, I love the way you have explained these issues and maybe this will get my points across in a better and more succinct manner. I Thank You.
I’d argue FCPX has great customisation for window arrangement, not limited. You can turn on and off panes and browsers and more with a single button or shortcut, instead of wasting time rearranging and resizing five or six windows which may overlap. Never mind the custom layouts you’ve mentioned, which I use every day.
For me personally, I am more than happy with it. For folks coming over from other NLEs or After Effects, I can see how it's a little frustrating. Only because all the windows are locked together and you can''t completely rearrange them how you see fit - for example, maybe some folks like the Inspector on the left-hand side of the screen - they can't move it there. Doesn't bother me at all but for some who are used to total layout control, it can be frustrating. Thanks for watching, Ben!
This is by far the best content I've come across. Thank you so much. Been editing with iMovie for 10+ years now and finally tok the step up and started using FCPX. Thank you sir. All the best, Eivind Berulfsen, Norway.
Whoa! Appreciate that! And welcome to the channel. Congrats on moving up to FCPX. Definitely a lot to learn, but the community here as well as some of the resources I’ve mentioned on the channel will help you on your way! Excited to see what you make with Final Cut Pro! 🙌🏻🤘🏻
@@matthewTobrien Thank you sir. I make fishing videos, in Norwegian. There’s allot to learn, no doubt, especially about the color correction. The workflow I’m use to, with iMove, is somewhat the same with fcpx, but after seeing your tutorials, I’m copying more of what you are doing. Do you have a tutorial of your workflow? Thank you so much for your reply and I your channel will grow fast if you keep up with your great videos sir. All the best, Eivind Berulfsen, Norway.
This is brilliant! I will share my approach h to FCPX that changed my life. I found a great tutorial series at a well known educational site, and I watched, learned, and practiced FCPX from Lesson 1 through Lesson 32 without jumping ahead, and without trying to do things like I did with Premier. I wiped my brain and started fresh and the time it took to go through the lessons was well worth it, having saved me hours and hours of work. I found myself saying "wow, that's cool" over and over again. I volunteer for a local film school and I frequently see new students trying to do things like they used to do and get frustrated at the software. The Magnetic Timeline is pure genius. This top ten mistakes video is fantastic.
Pure genius is right! And trying to go back to a traditional NLE is painful once you're really embraced the ML. So glad you're having success with the software and that you found a tutorial series that really helped you learn the ins and outs of FCP. Thanks for watching my vids!
@@matthewTobrien Believe it or not, one student would use iMovie instead of Compressor to render a different version because he thought it was faster. I would bet the core render engines in FCPX, Compressor, and iMovie are the same. Again, you put out stellar videos!
@@matthewTobrien Well I would bet the core engine is the same but what they were doing couldn’t possibly be faster. Sitting in the FCPX timeline it’s in an edit codec of ProRes but once they rendered the movie it was in h.264 which is a delivery codec. iMovie had to re-render the movie back to ProRes before any changes could be made. I think.
That "disk too full" sound made me jump a little . I was like: "Oh heck no... I just cleared my disk. My laptop better behave!" Luckily it was your editing and not my laptop. This video was AMAZING. GOD bless you men and keep it up! 😀
Great to hear that, Oscar! It isn't always necessary to even render at all - I turn it off often during the rough editing process because I'm not applying effects, grading, or using complex transitions usually. It can certainly make the editing process smoother and reduce overall project size. Thanks for watching!
i love the way you pronounce every single word, i can't use subtitle in this video but i can understand that (cuz my english is so bad :D). keep it up!
Great content on this video! I wish it was here a couple years ago when I started using FCPX because man I had a lot to learn right out of the gate!! I saved this one for a reminder when I run into these issues from time to time!! Great job brother!
This is amazing. I've finally chosen to go with FCPX full-time for my latest projects and your videos have helped me tremendously in taking a deep dive into the software.
So great to hear this, John! And stay tuned because there's plenty more FCPX and post-production workflow videos coming in 2021. Can't thank all of you who are watching, liking, subscribing, and sharing - the revenue this generates allows me to devote more and more time to the channel and not only improve the quality of the content overall ... but increase the quantity as well. Thank you!!! And Happy New Year!
Trust me, Josh. You don't want to try track-based editing. Although it might be fun so you can understand how antiquated it is compared to the magnetic timeline. In my opinion. 😋
I can’t express my appreciation for your help with your FCPX template tree!!!! I’m in the tail end of the biggest video editing project I have ever done. From your tutorial videos. I’m starting to use your FCPX template tree and I love it. I’m also starting to use copy video file into library but leave in place. I’m using your FCPX TEMPLATE TREE & placing my footage, etc. into these folders. I’m also using Notes to log in my footage etc now. Thank you!!!
So great to hear this, Edward! I know it's a simple concept to use a folder and library tree for your projects, but it really is the foundation for good organization and getting started with your projects much faster. So glad my templates are valuable to you and your clients!
As I am starting to get back into FCPX and Working on my Channel....THIS WAS AMAZING! THANK YOU! NOW IM EVEN MORE PUMPED FOR THE PROCESS AND FUTURE OF EDITING AND UA-cam!!! CHEERS!
Absolute gold for a beginner like me! My first ever project, a 45 minute band video album, grew to 700GB. Now I know why. Thanks for doing this. I've subscribed.
Haha - I've heard that a few times. Definitely had the tone of a teacher scolding his students, but it was all with a foundation of love! Just want to help everyone level up their editing and post-production game! One video at a time...
@@matthewTobrien Got my new MacBook Pro M1 and I am in heaven. Talk about value, it downloaded FCPX from the app store that I paid for 8 years ago! No ongoing subscription like Adobe. But it’s super easy to accidentally disconnect an external drive while working in my recliner. I’ve already had to use First Aid to fix a crashing FCPX.
This was great, Matthew - thank you! I'm 100% technical and roughly 0% creative, so all of this stuff made sense to me once I related the NLE terms to technical terms (render files:cache for instance) [after I Googled NLE]. I haven't even started my FCPX trial yet (because I haven't shot my first video yet and I'm trying to be disciplined), but I learned enough from this video to at least get started on the right foot in terms of where to do my edits from and where to keep other types of storage. Your tone in the video had a kind of "that's why you always leave a note" quality that my mom would use, but I think that made it stick better. Magnetic timeline video is next!
Hahahaha “that’s why you always leave a note” Love it. Sometimes I’m a tough teacher dealing with unruly students who want to do things a little too differently. Gotta reign ‘em in! 🤣🎓 Thanks for watching and I’m excited for you to start your FCP journey!

@@matthewTobrien You are! :) And I'm taking advantage of this comment to share with you two ideas of future contents on things I'm currently struggling on: 1. audio mixing. I am a completely failure on that and I'd love to hear from a pro like you how to master on that with simple tips and tricks; 2. I have one project with a yellow exclamation mark to his side that I have no Idea how to fix it. Any insights on that would be really helpful (at least for me haha). Again, keep doing the amazing work, buddy!
Thanks for the suggestions. As far as audio-mixing goes, anything that I do that's paid work from a client either gets the same treatment as my vlog (compressors / limiters) and just a basic mix between dialogue and music or I send out to a professional for mixing. Like my short doc THE TOYMAKER - that was mixed by a sound professional using ProTools. Anything beyond just putting a compressor/eq/limiter on dialogue and ducking music around dialogue is beyond me. And that's what I love about filmmaking - it's a collaborative art so that means I get to work with experts in color, audio/sound, visual effects, etc. to bring my vision to life. Not a fan of trying to do it all myself. I wouldn't worry too much about those yellow exclamation marks. I have a few projects with those as well and I used to go nuts trying to find out why and I could never see anything in my edits that indicated an issue so I just had to stop caring. As long as everything plays back in my timeline the way I want it to, it looks correct, etc. I just let it go.... But yeah, I'm curious to know ALL of the different things that can cause that yellow exclamation mark to show up... 🤔
Midland Pictures on the audio side, I’m with you. I’m putting some limiters and eqs and ducking music and that’s the farthest I can go! Regarding the yellow exclamations, I’ll reach out to Apple to see if they have any insights on that and I let you know if I find anything relevant!

It is a tricky thing to get the hang of, but focusing on the keyboard shortcuts and menu options that make it really work well are very important. I'm glad my tutorials are helping - keep at it, and you can always comment on my videos or reach out on Instagram and I'll try to help if I can!
@@matthewTobrien God bless you for your efforts!
Good job articulating the major issues. One of the best videos I’ve watched ever on FCPX.
Just WOW! I have seen lots of tutorials but I have never experienced exactly these technical stuff explained that deep. Thank you very much!
THANK YOU MY BROTHER FROM ANOTHER COUNTRY AND ANOTHER FAMILY!!!
You're welcome!
Extremely helpful and constructive video. I learned 5 or 6 new things and you answered another 3 or 4 questions. Thank you! Love your style and you are a great teacher.
Oh wow, David. Thanks so much. Keep learning and keep knocking out those edits! 🤘🏻✌🏻
Absolutely outstanding video. Best advice on FCPX I’ve seen in a long time. Professional, practical and am so glad I stumbled upon your channel. Well done, sir!. I use FCPX all the time, and you nailed it.
🙌🏻🙌🏻🙌🏻 That means a lot! I'm so glad you stumbled upon my channel, too! Glad you'll be able to find value in the videos I make! Welcome!
Thank you so much, the information you have shared is really helpful. I appreciate the time and effort you put in.
My pleasure! Glad you found value in the video. Thanks for watching!
Thank so much bro! As an experienced editor there was stuff here I never knew. You’re a genius!
I'm still learning new tricks myself, so I'm glad you were able to pick up a few new things! Check out the rest of my FCP vids to learn even more. 👌🏻
Thank you so much, this was so helpful. Just switched to FCPX from Premiere, on my new lovely hackintosh build :D
How long did it take you to do your hackintosh?
Few days - I bought the most common specs in the community so that was very easy.
Now with Opencore it’s very easy to hackintoshing
Congrats on the switch! I'll be curious to hear what you love and what drives you nuts during the transition. Good luck!
Hackintosh gang 💪💪💪I've built 4 now, all for professional video and music work, so reliable, so much more affordable and modular. Absolutely the move
Very smooth and helpful! Thanks so much!

Hahaha - I know, right? 🤣
1 minute silence for people who have pressed dislike button :)
Jagaat Bhari 🤣😆😂
Can I dislike somebody disliking this...? 😂
Hahaha - great comment! I do love me that Magnetic Timeline... So glad you subscribed (thank you!). Keep me posted on your journey into FCPX!

I always open up Final Cut Pro library files and delete render files from there when I have I finished my project. Have never had a problem

Haha - yeah, I kinda hope that becomes a catch phrase on a t-shirt someday with a cool graphic of my edit bay. 😋
Excellent video, thank you for the tips, very helpful.
So glad! Thanks for watching!!! 🙌🏻🤘🏻
Excellent and enjoyable. And Thank-you so much for keeping the energy up while keeping voice calm and listenable!
Thanks, Oli! And keeping the energy up is something I really try to work on!

Best fcp tutorial EVER. Thank you.
Whoa! Thanks so much for the kind words!
You're welcome! And welcome to Final Cut Pro!
@@matthewTobrienThank You! Will do.
@@matthewTobrien Thanks! Again, really helps!
Mind was blown. Saved my life. Thank you.
Great to hear! Glad it was helpful. 👌🏻
By far the best on the subject out there. Thank you very much for sharing your knowledge!
Greatly appreciate that! Thanks for watching!
Thank you very much for this tutorial. I am always looking for lessons, This is exactly what I need.
Great to hear, Mike! Glad it was helpful.
One of the clearest and best-conceived tutorials I’ve had the pleasure to view. Many thanks!

You are welcome! Thanks for the kind words and hoping it will help some of those other editors! 🙌🏻🤘🏻
Downloading Compressor now, this video helped me a lot thanks man
So glad to hear it! Thanks for watching!
I don’t have a single video that goes over my entire workflow but all of them basically add up to my workflow. From import to archiving a project.
Thank you so much, mastering FCP with your lessons.
Great to hear, Freddie. Thanks so much for watching. 🙌🏻🤘🏻
That's a good question - I should do a test sometime of how long FCP and Compressor take to export/transcode the same file to the same codec. 🤔
I think.
This video is gold! I was having to delete files an hour ago, then I stumbled upon this.
So glad you found the video and the channel! Thanks for watching and happy editing!
Thanks for a timely reminder regarding deleting render file.
Haha - yup, always a good thing to remember!

This video was AMAZING. GOD bless you men and keep it up! 😀
Hahaha - yeah, that sound can strike fear in the hearts of many FCPX-ers. So glad you liked the video! Thanks for watching! 🙌🏻
But wait, you thought me another very important thing: SHOULD you Render? Until your video I took this for granted. Great insight!
Great to hear that, Oscar! It isn't always necessary to even render at all - I turn it off often during the rough editing process because I'm not applying effects, grading, or using complex transitions usually. It can certainly make the editing process smoother and reduce overall project size. Thanks for watching!
im a beginner and I really appreciate your time for pointing this out I will give you credit

It felt like you were telling me off the whole time but I got a lot out of this haha. Thank you
Haha - I've heard that a few times. Definitely had the tone of a teacher scolding his students, but it was all with a foundation of love! Just want to help everyone level up their editing and post-production game! One video at a time...
In addition to the tip on reseting FCPX preferences, I have also fixed problems by using First Aid in Disk Utilities.
Excellent point. Have used First Aid numerous times...
Jealous! I'm holding out for an M1 16" MacBook Pro and/or Mac Pro Mini but can't wait to update from both of my 2013 machines. Enjoy!
Hahahaha “that’s why you always leave a note”
Love it. Sometimes I’m a tough teacher dealing with unruly students who want to do things a little too differently. Gotta reign ‘em in! 🤣🎓 Thanks for watching and I’m excited for you to start your FCP journey!
Truly well laid out, this is how a tuitorial should be done. PRO! Thx Matthew, Henrik, Stockholm
Love it! Thanks so much for saying so, and thanks for watching my vid! This one seems to have helped a lot of FCPX-ers.
I am going to need to watch this video about 20 times;) thank you for the great resource.
Whatever it takes! Glad it’s helping you develop your skills! 🤘🏻🙌🏻
This video is precisely the reason why I happily pay my internet bills! Your content is terrific, dude. It's clear, easily comprehensive and highly helpful. Thank you for the great work!
Oh man, that means so much - soooo glad it's providing you with value, and I certainly hope it helps you level up your editing game. Happy editing!!!
Sounds good!
Thank You for making time!
My pleasure!
