Adding timestamps because I keep coming back to your video. I haven't memorized the commands yet. 0:30 - Speed ramps 1:46 - Custom shortcuts 5:26 - Title presets 6:46 - Compound clips 7:15 - Noise removal 10:00 - Compound your multicam 12:36 - An export secret Thanks for this, and your other, amazing videos. They've been extremely helpful.
Both this video and the great comments are going to take a while to digest. One last thing, as someone who used to design typefaces it’s always hard hearing them called fonts. But that’s what the menu says thanks to Mr. Jobs.
You explained speed ramping (both what to do & not what to do!) in under a minute. I'm just learning FCP and your vids help immensely while cutting out all the bloat that others do. Very much appreciated!
Dude.. I don't know why I haven't even bothered saving text presets in there. Would save me so many unnecessary clicks 😂 Always appreciate seeing more FCP content Tyler!
For your mixing-tip: if you CTRL-S, expand audio, on the big compound clip, you can actually mix the different roles (dialog, effects, music...). For example throw the limiter on the dialogue, compressor on music and equalize the music so it doesn't affect the dialogue so much.
Absolutely great tip! Since I’m usually doing things quick and dirty for UA-cam I often master it to my ear to balance tracks in the main timeline, then just lift the whole thing on the compound clip. Of course your suggestion is the correct way to do it though
Oh man! I've been using FCP for over 10 years (on and off and not professionally) and 2 min into your video I learned something I wished I learnt maaaany years ago!.. haha. In other words, I've been using the Blade Speed tool very inefficiently.. Your way of easing in and out of the speed ramp and also (this is the big one) that you can edit the source frame! 🤯 THANK YOU!
I made a couple keyboard shortcuts for things I use often and it has seriously cut down my editing time. 1) Created a shortcut for "Automatic speed." So when I use the command it takes the clip and slows it down until it matches the framerate of the video file you are editing. So if I shot in 60fps and my project is in 24fps then it will slow it down to 40%. Really useful for B roll sequences and b roll heavy project so you don't have to drag you mouse up to the drop down menu. 2) Created a shortcut to silence the audio on a clip. Its great for if you or your videographer recorded audio into you b roll that you won't be using or if you are just cutting something to music.
I taught myself how to use final cut and have been using since 2015... because I am self taught, I always look for better ways to do things. this taught me tons! what a time saver. thank you!
Again a GREAT VIDEO! Love the Final Cute Pro Video's @TylerStalman Thank you for taking the time and make this happen for us! We appreciate it very much. Gr from The Netherlands.
Tyler... wow! I'm not even a FCPX user, but I always want to switch back to it... you made that way more tempting! You rocked my world with izotope rx8. I bought it as soon as I watched this. It just happen to hit right as I was going back through an old video series (that IS in FCPX) that I wanted to clean up and use on my premium video site. I used a rode video micro a little too far away... but rx8 cleaned it up in the most incredible way. The way you demonstrated it here is very similar to my results, so I can affirm that you posted a very real-world demonstration.
Your noise reduction method can be simplified further if you have Logic. Open Logic, drag your video clip into Logic, press shift+W to send it to RX (you may have to map this in the sample editor menu in Preferences), perform any noise reduction you need, Cmd+S to save, Cmd+Q to quit, which takes you back to your logic session, then go to File - Movie - Export audio to movie. Bam, now you have noise reduction encoded directly into the source video file and don't need to create any extra audio files.
I feel so justified that so many of these are ones I adopted naturally. I did not know about the gradual speed ramp though. I’m so excited to try that next time as it smoothly ramps up to full speed which has always been a battle of mine. Command Shirt R on footage in the timeline will reveal it in finder, you can skip reveal in browser. Tyler did it correctly if you’re only right clicking though.
Thank you so much. I really learned a lot from your first video I've ever watched of yours. For me, when you scroll through various onscreen choices, such as the end encoding, you move to fast for beginners like me. Thank you so much for making your content free and I have now subscribed to learn more from you and your channel.
Loved this! Saving the titles as presets is a game-changer for me! I've been going to previous videos of mine and copying and pasting in! So happy I don't need to do that anymore!
Audio Transitions and Compound Clips were my major takeaways. So good! I’m using CCs so much now that I made it a straight “G” shortcut. I did the same for “Z” since I’m a newbie and I undo frequently, then made redo “Command Z”! 🙃
I agree with the noise reduction... its poopy. I have found that using a slight voice isolation on noisy backgrounds and then compounding the clip together, then once again added a little more voice isolation along with loudness amount and uniformity seems to work the same wonders without compressing or limiting. I always feel the limiter takes away from the quality slightly. Just my little work around to explore.
Another tip for speed ramp is to use range selector and only select part of the clip then it the hot key and it makes that part fast and ramps into it.
Yeah this was the only tip that seemed longer than what I normally do - I created a Custom Destination that just spits out the audio of the current timeline as a WAV or AIFF, then round trip to RX8
For speed ramps, you can press just the letter R i believe, and high section of the clip than choose your speed. It creates in and out ramps to your clips. Way easier than the way demonstrated here. The transition shortcuts are awesome 🔥
Is there any way I can move around to different points in the timeline of FCPX like in Adobe Preiemire I used to have mark In point and Out point in the timeline and then with press of Cntr + I goto In Point and with Cntrl + O gotto Out point can we can do such thing in FCPS please help really need this feature
I’m a long time Premiere User, but I’ve been considering making the switch to Final Cut. The way premiere exports color drives me a little nuts, and final cut is just looking better and better!
I've been using FCP for 2 years now and don't know half the stuff in these tips. Thanks so much. I'm still unsure of how the compound clips work. I'll try it myself and then rewatch your vids.
If you need a wav file, it might be faster to just export(share) master file (command + E) and choose audio only, or better yet just make a wav file destination for the share menu(add destination).
Actually you’re probably right, as long as you select the original clip in the browser. What you want to avoid is accidentally changing the length of the wav
One improvement on the audio master tip, if you make a compound clip of everything at the end, detach audio, then export that into auphonic (free) you can professionally normalize just a bit better than the built in apple limiter :) an extra step, but good audio is worth it!
For people who are doubting FCP, it was the standard before Premiere in the industry. It was let down due to the major changes of FCP X that created too many issues and because macs lineup was less appealing, but in reality, you will find Avid much more than Premiere in pro studios. Also, features such as Parasites where all edited on FCP X. FCPX presets are so ridiculous, if you look closely, there's one in the 3D section what was totally use for the earlier white, 3D Netflix logo animation!! :O
Loved this video Tyler. The speed ramp is so cool! Title presets is epic. I wish I could preset keyframes for Transforms for all the animations/zooms I do though. AND HOLY CRAP that export trick is incredible 🤯 thanking you directly for being able to save so much time.
So helpful 🙋🏻♂️ thanks a lot.😀 There is one ☝🏻 tip i have not seen on FCP tutorials jet. Everybody is marking clips in the timeline an then they drag and drop effects.😅 It is so unnecessary. Just mark the clip and go to the desired effect and double-click the effect and it will automatically insert into the clip that is marked. Saves me so much time.😀 Hopefully this was a new tip for someone. 🙋🏻♂️👍🏻
Great video. Some I knew, lots of new stuff I didn’t. Thanks Tyler 😊. Love how the sponsored section didn’t even feel like a plug 🤣. I am actually going to go check them out.
Sweet video, thanks for the info. 8:05 - for this I use a easy plug-in called NS1 by Waves. I bought it for Logic Pro X but it shows up in FCPX as well so I thought that was cool. However, I know your work is top quality so this wont work as great for you but for the rest of the people out there like me, maybe this can help you get rid of your unwanted noise with just two clicks. (Plug-in was $40, super worth it for me). Thanks again for the video just wanted to share the little knowledge I have in the comments for us small timers.
That last tip sounds amazing but don't you process your final vids through Compressor? Then upload the Compressor file to UA-cam? That's what I was always told to do. Salutations from astonishingly sunny, cold and sorta weirdly back to normal Ireland! ☘☮🤘🏽🤠👍🏽☮☘
I recently found out that if you want a transition to affect only the secondary timeline (without disturbing the primary timeline) all you need to do is to come from a clip with zero opacity (does not work with muted clips). Comes in really handy for example if you want to slide something in the frame from the side...just use a slide transition. This was my first edit using this method. The climbing holds are "animated" with slide transitions which also provide great motion blur without using much rendering power. /watch?v=0Vx6gtJkL9w

Thanks so much! added to the video
The Option+T audio transition tip literally just gave me hours of my life back 🙏
Me too! That’s brilliant.
It really does. I found this out a little while back and OMG. Not having to drag those tiny little audio fade handles out is A+
Option + T. Got it❤️💪🏻
Yup
Same!!

Seriously!!! This is 🤯
SAME LOL
This editing software is full of magic. Every time I watched a new video I learned at least a new shortcut to speed things up. Magical.

I had no idea about the Option-T audio tip. Man, that’s a good one! Thanks
What a ridiculously helpful video! I edit every video in Final Cut and I didn’t know most of these. Thanks so much!
Oh man! I've been using FCP for over 10 years (on and off and not professionally) and 2 min into your video I learned something I wished I learnt maaaany years ago!.. haha. bro you're a cheat code, super appreciate your expertise- absolutely love your videos, these tips saved me an eternity of editing
I taught myself how to use final cut and have been using since 2015... because I am self taught, I always look for better ways to do things. this taught me tons! what a time saver. thank you!
Easily one of my new favorite UA-cam channel. Love the professional vibes!
Again a GREAT VIDEO! Love the Final Cute Pro Video's @TylerStalman Thank you for taking the time and make this happen for us! We appreciate it very much.

Literally one of the best FCPX videos I've seen on UA-cam! Thanks Tyler!

I thought I had a pretty slick workflow in Final Cut until I watched this video and realized the extent of my inefficiency😳 Thanks Tyler!
Once again, you prove that you are the Jedi Master of FCPX.
Great tip about the exporting/YT upload. I've had 15 minute 4K videos sit in "HD Processing" for almost 24 hours. Thank you.
Your noise reduction method can be simplified further if you have Logic. Awesome tips. Thanks for sharing. The round trip to RX via compound clip just changed my life!
Wow I just learned a lot. That compound clips tip is genius thank you
…you rock! 🙌🏼💯😎🔥⚡️ …first day back in FCPX after 5yrs in PP… this helps significantly.
I feel so justified that so many of these are ones I adopted naturally.
I did not know about the gradual speed ramp though. I’m so excited to try that next time as it smoothly ramps up to full speed which has always been a battle of mine.

Everyone knows Patrick! Small world. Great video! Definitely going to use compound clips more often.

There is SO much great info in here. Thanks so much. I feel like you answered every question I’ve had recently!
iZotope FTW! Your multicam was compound inception! All great tips Tyler!
Double clicking on the speed ramp is mind blowing. Thanks 😊
Great tips and the export bit at the end . . .nice! The Technics hoody though - takes the cake. LOL I had two 1200MKIIs back in the day.
You’re a legend man..I’ve learned loads of FCP stuff from your videos 👍
This is one of the best FCP tips videos I’ve ever watched. Thank you, Tyler!

I’ve been using FCP off and on for years to edit, more recently as a second gig and I realized I’ve been doing so many things the hard way lol.
Another tip for speed ramp is to use range selector and only select part of the clip then it the hot key and it makes that part fast and ramps into it.
This is awesome. Thanks for the tips!
Totally brilliant. Love the first tip!!
Audio tip: you can try using gate to basically mute the audio when nothing is spoken. It works beautifully when the mic gain is set correctly! :)
Excellent tutorial, Tyler! As always, your use of compound clips blows my mind + streamlines my workflow 😆
Thanks man! Major gems 💎 as usual!🤟🏾💪🏾
08:34 Is it any different then exporting only audio as wave?
Yeah this was the only tip that seemed longer than what I normally do - I created a Custom Destination that just spits out the audio of the current timeline as a WAV or AIFF, then round trip to RX8

In a jungle of content creating channels yours really stand out. Its polished and straight to the point. Thank you Tyler!
Super interesting stuff here, I had no idea about the the amount of T shortcuts! Just saved this for later! Thanks Tyler
Nice sweater Tyler! Let's see some of your DMC scratch videos!
I’m a long time Premiere User, but I’ve been considering making the switch to Final Cut. The way premiere exports color drives me a little nuts, and final cut is just looking better and better!

Actually you’re probably right, as long as you select the original clip in the browser. What you want to avoid is accidentally changing the length of the wav
Woa! Probably the most valuable tips ive found yet. This just took my edits to the next level thank you
All relevant tips explained in great detail! Thank you.
I LOVE your composition and framing for your tutorials!
Wow Tyler ! So much info. Thanks for this. I'll need to watch this a few more times. Saved for reference.
ive been using FCPX for a long time and i still learned from this video. great stuff!
I’m definitely going to need to remember the text and option-T audio tip! Thank you 🙏🏽
This was a great video. Thanks, Tyler! 🎉

Yep. Just subbed. Very clean and easy tutorial. Everything I needed from the last two weeks of work just got faster. Thank you!
Wow! That's a lot of info in a short amount of time. Thanks for sharing your insights!
Ctrl+opt+R is a good trick for speed ramps in which your video time doesn’t shift when synched.
love the thumbnail
8:29 - final cut can export audio of a clip, timeline, based on selection etc
Compound clips for the win!

Yessss, another FCP vid!
absolutely the best tutorial FCPX ever! Perfect for where I am in my learning process! Thanks a ton!
Opt+T ist working in the German edition of FCPX, what is the exact name of the command so I can look it up?
hm given you mention plugins noise removal is so much easier and quicker with Crumble Pop Noise remover or Wave Clarity VX all within FCP
That last tip sounds amazing but don't you process your final vids through Compressor? Then upload the Compressor file to UA-cam? That's what I was always told to do.

Great tips! Need to learn more shortcuts ASAP
Wow, I didn't know they integrated the plugins from Logic in this software. Amazing!
Great tips, I’m happy YouTubr just recommended me this video! Thanks for sharing
Love the shortcuts, thanks man! 💪🏻
Can you please tell me which Motion VFX pack you got the arrow from? Thank you.
yes!
So helpful - your final cut tutorials are the best !
That Technics hoodie is 🔥
This is the video I needed and didn’t know I needed
Thanks Tyler some great tips as per usual! 🔥🔥🔥
Hi Tyler, loving the content.
Question: Which pack do I purchase to get the arrow used in 4:30
Did you figure that out?
@@jmarcelombNope
what is the name of the plugin that has this animated arrow?
hear here
The arrow is in the plug-in set called mFrame motionvfx.sjv.io/c/2035867/614046/10011

These shortcuts, so helpful thank you!!🔥😩
just changed my life 🤯
Really like your FCPX videos. Subbed.
Super helpful. Good looking out on another helpful video.

To remove noise in Final Cut I use Crumple Pop's Audio Denoise AI and man it really works and I don't have to leave Final Cut
thank you Tyler! lots of great info in here!
