I hate videos wasting 2-3 minutes before you get to the point. So I’m trying to do it that way… I definitely fail sometimes…. But I try 😂 Welcome to my channel btw! 😎👍
That was without a doubt the best explanation for, what can be, a confusing topic; libraries, events, projects. And how to store them. For me, this has always been a bit difficult. I plan to watch it again. Thanks so much!
As noted in previous comments - the best explanation of the FCP Library, Events and Projects - I've seen. You've made a fairly confusing file management process (for the novice FCP user) quite easy to understand. I certainly appreciate your great advice on this topic!
Mats, thank you so much from a FCPX newbie. Yours is the first video, after several others I've watched, that finally explained this topic in a way that made sense to me. It was extremely helpful.
Good point. That could definitely be a topic for another video. The problem is usually to limit the topic of a video so it’s super relevant for the viewer that decided to start watching it 😃👍
Here’s the way I’ve been organizing mine on an external drive. I do two sermons a week up load to UA-cam PE, rumble and Facebook. If knew of others would go their as well. Anyway. I put each in its own library, then event and the project. Series lesson I put in the same library with a different event / project for each individual lesson. Any suggestions?
Great explanation, I think I’ve got it now, somewhere along the line my files got corrupted and after working on a 45 minute gig I’m editing I lost everything, this seems to me that if I create a new library, event and project within that, hopefully it won’t happen again
Thanks :) happy I could help out! I have ended up with corrupted libraries sometimes too. Super annoying and frustrating! Sometimes it could be resolved by creating a new library and copy the project to the new library.
Welcome to my channel! Maybe this video about how to apply Luts in fcpx could help?? Best way to apply LUTs in FCPX. 3 ways to apply LUTs to edit FASTER. ua-cam.com/video/NMc4I1VFIQY/v-deo.html Let me know :)
Great info! I do disagree on the storage! I store everything in the folder so I don't have duplicates stored in FCPX. I have my FCPX and all my files on a T5 Samsung 1tb hard drive and it doesn't take long to fill it. lol Thanks
The problem with the import dialog is there's no way to only import new and there's no way to delete after import, it's probably best to move it to a folder in finder and drag the media in afterwards. More practically, do you use a single library for all your events and projects? - or do you use a library per youtube video?
In the import section already imported videos will (usually) be marked with a white line at thre bottom of the clip. What can you not delete? I create a new library for every video. So much easier to manage.
Hi Curt, In FCPX the project is where the timeline lives. Or you could say that the project is the timeline. The media is what you put in the timeline to create the video :)

THANK YOU SO MUCH! Best video explaining the differences and how to use it.
Finally - a Video that is to the point and very clear how FCPX uses Librarys/Events/Projects. NICE JOB!!

I’m so happy I managed to explain this in a understandable way. Welcome back at any time!

Well, simply the best explanation on this topic of the ones I’ve seen so for!
Hi Andrew! Thank you for taking your time to share that with me.
Welcome back at any time!
this video was so helpful, thank you!
Awesome! 👏😎
Guide is on point but in terms of storing media i think you you should consider low end mac users with optimized media settings.

@@MK-Creator completely agreed
Great Explanation for something that had always confused me. What is the smaller screen below your left monitor that has all those buttons?

Thanks for sharing. It’s all about personal preferences and that you know what you are doing so you know where your media is actually stored :)
@@MK-Creator yes, it doesn't take long to fill external drives lol

Im still confused about the difference between projects and media.
Hi Curt,
In FCPX the project is where the timeline lives. Or you could say that the project is the timeline.
The media is what you put in the timeline to create the video :)
It used to be so much easier when it was a sequence, etc.
Agree. But when you are used to the current way to work it’s quite effective :)
this was great. thank you man
I’m thinking about a follow-up video now some years later… is there anything you were missing in the video?
