There are 2 types of mindsets that most people navigate the world with. A Fixed Mindset and a Growth Mindset. Many people also use a combination of both - depending on the situation they are in. When you have a growth mindset you see yourself as having say over the general direction of your life and believe you can achieve and accomplish things when you learn, stay committed and work at it to develop your skills and abilities. When you have a fixed mindset you see the world more as people who innately have talent, abilities and strengths, so success can only be had by those who already have a "natural ability". In this talk you'll learn more about what a growth mindset is, and how you can start cultivating one for yourself. Doing so is also one of the main keys to building your mental strength and resilience.

Where were you when I was growing up in the 70's😅, probably not born yet, LOL
How I wish that I had learned this all those years ago, but, better late than never! Thank you for adding so much more to the recipe of one step at a time. Your explanations are inspiring!❤😊

I think alot of this information wasn't known yet in the 70's. Heck, they were still putting people in insane asylum for being left handed until the 60s I'm pretty sure

Although I have always read well I also always believe I could never comprehend. With helpful therapy behind me, I now believe and qm practicing simply reading one sentence at a time. And giving myself permission to read and reread as many times as necessary.

Mines is managing anxiety. There are times where I think, "my anxiety will never go away and I can't stand it." However, I remind myself I have the tools and knowledge to manage anxiety while providing myself self compassion.

Probably several times a day for several different areas because when I work with live electricity I have people that know about it and still like to run by really quick and throw a book on the floor behind me. It kind of makes me feel inadequate when I shock myself because I know in my heart I could actually fix the outlet that they poured water into to get it to short out and trip the breaker if only they would go somewhere else for 20 minutes so that they didn't spark any possible gas explosions from leaving the gas stove on. ;)

I wholeheartedly agree with your emphasis on the transformative power of embracing a growth mindset. The notion that challenges and setbacks are not indicators of immovable limitations but rather opportunities for growth and learning is a perspective shift many of our clients can benefit from. Your discussion on the significance of the word "yet" in reframing our understanding of our abilities and progress is a powerful tool I frequently encourage in my practice as well. It fosters patience, resilience, and a proactive attitude towards personal growth.
Additionally, your insights into the importance of recognizing effort and struggle as integral to the learning process align perfectly with my approach to therapy. It's crucial for building perseverance and resilience, helping clients understand that growth often comes from discomfort and facing one's fears head-on.

I have worked with an OCPD manager for 8 years, and it is like he is always trying to lift the biggest barbell he can find, and force everyone to help him. Every year less and less gets done, because he doesn't change his approach ever. He can not reflect and adapt, he can only see difficult equating to good. If you want to grow around him, you have to attempt to keep in secret from him, because if he notices any success on your part, he immediately takes over and turns it into chaos that is disconnected from the goal.
I LOVE learning, and understand the process. I build steam with focusing a grain of salt. The OCPD guy definitely tries again and again, but it's like an insane process of repeating the same brute force against moving a mountain for the sake of the optics of appearing to move a mountain.

Thank you Julia Kristina, M.A. Psych for today's UA-cam video,
Mental Strength Building Skill: Get a Growth Mindset.
When I look back at my talents like my digital artwork or musical skills, I remember a time having a fixed mindset that, “I could never create artwork or play keyboard like these other people” but when I changed to a growth mindset (and no comparing myself to others) I then built the confidence and skills and now can create types of artwork or play music in a way I never knew I could before. It does take consistent and intentional baby steps and sometimes years later, but it is possible.
    Here are my notes:
*Mental strength is something that is built just like our physical strength.
*It takes intentional and consistent mental practices, exercises, and habits to build and grow.
*Mental strength is not about never feeling any difficult emotions but what do we do with it when they do show up.
*Growth Mindset: means that you believe your abilities, intelligence talents and mental health can be developed over time and not set in stone.
*Fixed Mindset: means that you believe your abilities, intelligence talents and mental health is fixed and set in stone. Nothing can change.
*Having a fixed mindset can become a self-fulfilling prophecy and become a cycle.
*Tell ourselves "I have actions I need to take and decisions I need to make. I can and I will."
