Not only did the drummer lose his arm, he thought he lost his career in drumming, but he worked out a system of pedals so he can use his feet more, the band waited for him to get well, and welcomed him back.
Exactly. I have listened to Def Leppard since they started and they are my favorite band. But when I heard Rick Allen was in a car crash and lost his arm I was worried if Def Leppard would continue without him. But I am so glad they didn't.
Rick Allen was always the drummer & when he lost his arm in a car accident, the band refused to replace him. They waited for him to heal & relearn how to do things differently & they were more popular when they came back again, than before his accident. The depth of love & loyalty between these friends is a beautiful thing to see. Rick is known as the 'Thunder God' because of his style & talent. He designed his own electric drum setup & uses both feet. Such an inspiration to all who witness his performances. Great band.
Those are some real friends, that’s not what would happen a lot of times nowadays unfortunately
@@DuaneReacts especially considering Rick was 15 at the time of the accident. The others were around 19. They are all still together today.
@@StephanieHealy-wh9cn He was 21 when he lost his arm....
When he came back to the studio he’d just go into a room alone to practice and figure things out. The band has said now that of course they didn’t think he’d really be able to do what he did before but they were just happy he was back doing something. Then one day he called them all into the room and proceeded to play a Led Zeppelin song and one do their songs using his feet. All of them were in tears by the end.
When they went back on the road, they had a backup drummer and the idea was to have Allen play a few songs and also have the other guy back him. About 2 concerts in, the backup guy couldn’t make it in time… so Allen went out and did the entire concert! The backup joked: well I guess that’s it for me!
Rick Allen, the drummer, lost his arm when he was 21. He'd been with the band since he was 15. At the height of their success, they waited until he healed and re-taught himself how to play. He has a special kit, in which his left pedal could emulate what his left arm could do. He still suffers PTSD from the accident to this day and sees drumming and painting as therapeutic healing for him.
Rick was 15 when he joined the band. He replaced Tony Kenning. He was 21 when he lost his arm on New Years Eve 1984. Theyve been my fave band for42 years. Ive seen them live close to 30 times. They are a very underrated band. I was so upset when Steve Clark died. I really thought that would be the end of them but the endured once again and replaced Steve with Vivian Campbell and theyve been together since. I just saw them last year and they still sound the same. Its worth it to go see a show.
Def Leppard .... i grow up with them, one of the first i really " heared " ! Now i am more black/death metalhead but this band will ever have a big place in my heart, it is not only the story with Rick Allen but this " story " shows real friendship!! Sorry i am german hope you understand what i mean!
I wore this cassette out playing it in my car around ‘88. Still love it!!
Sweet! 🎸🤘Everyone has their faves, but I like "Rocket", "Animal", "Let's Get Rocked", "Hysteria". And yes the drummer lost his arm in a car accident and he stayed in the band. This was an awesome song back in the day, and I think later on it got played alot at strip clubs... maybe that's where you heard it! 😆🤣
This song is played at a lot of sports events. It's quite the anthem! It's Classic!! Rick Allen lost his arm in a car accident in 1984. He's such a Badass drummer!!
Sadly, Steve Clark, the guitarist with long blonde hair, died in 1991 due to an unintentional overdose of alcohol, valium, and codeine. He had a cracked rib and drank while he was taking his meds. It's so sad. He was absolutely a phenomenal guitarist/musician. RIP Steve!
Def Leppard kicks. They have a huge catalog of great songs!! Hope you react to more of them.
I loved how the drummer was able to come back. I do know the band wait. And not only just waited, but refused to get a sub dummer or move on until he came back. I always loved Def Leppard growing up. Them and Bon Jovi.
At one point Def Leppard was the biggest band in the world. The first 3 albums put them on the map. But during Christmas break on the Pyromania tour, drummer Rick Allen went home for the holidays. While driving his Corvette in rural England, he lost control and rolled the car. The seatbelt took his right arm off. Rick Allen, the one armed drummer, is the definition of "Dont give up". Btw... Mariah Carey did a remake of Def Leppard's Bringin On The Heartbreak. Its creepy!
Oh wow didn’t know the exact story, that’s crazy but I agree it’s definitely inspiration to never give up 🙏🏽 I’ll have to hear the Mariah Carey remake 😂
LEFT Arn !!
Every time I watch a reactor who is new to Def Leppard react to this video in particular, I count the shots of Rick Allen where it's clear that his left sleeve is empty from the front or his left (not from the rear, because it isn't clear from that angle) before the reactor says something about his missing arm. You passed 16, which I think is the most I've ever counted, though you did say you'd noticed it a bit earlier. LOL Congrats...? Hehehe.... Rick is a beast, Number 8 on the UK's all-time best drummer list, and the rest of the band are legend for waiting for him after his accident. Great human beings, as well as wonderful at making music. :D
You have to check out photograph next ! It came out in 1983 The drummer Rick Allen lost his arm in 1984 in a car accident
You definitely need to listen to more of this amazing group. Some of my faves are Animal, Hysteria, Rock of Ages, Photograph.
Saw them live this summer and they're still KILLING it 🤘❤️
Watch it to the end.
Rick Allen lost his left arm in a wreck. Band waited almost a year and would not ply without him. He now plays everything on pads with his left foot that he originally played with his left arm. Crazy talent. Mad respect. My favorite rock band.
Bloody brilliant absolute legends .. Love your channel much love an God bless always x
This was the first album Def Leppard and that bad ass drummer moved forward. 7:30
Anything from On through the Night,High'NDry,Pyromania.... They're all pretty Great!!!
The thunder god was and still is amazing today
multiple genres of radio stations, music videos, to supermarkets to commercials and a tom of tv shows for almost 50 years and you never once heard this? Pressing Y to doubt.
Hysteria was their comeback album after the accident everyone else has told you about here. It got off to a slow start. Then some strippers down in Florida kept requesting this song and everyone else kind of picked up on it and suddenly it was blowing up MTV. I think it went 80 days straight at number one on their daily Top 20 in the summer of '88 and then the album went multiple platinum, which had barely ever happened before with any artist at that point -- I think it might have been these guys and Michael Jackson, maybe a Beatles album or two, but that was about it.
And then after the Hysteria tour concluded they went back into the studio, stuff bogged down again, and then Steve Clark (the blond guitarist with the Gibson) died suddenly, two days before my 17th birthday. And that's when the band adopted its current lineup. And that is your Def Leppard history lesson for today.
To this day if there's a Leps song I haven't heard that comes on the radio, I usually recognize it from the guitar sound alone. Vivian (the "new" guy) did a good job blending in.
Girls liked it.
Favorite Band thanks!!🥰🎶Yes most likely songs that are familiar to you were probably in movies💥Big time possible. Or my younger daughter who is 20 knows a lot from Tic TOC videos lol😂
He got his arm ripped off by his seat belt in a car accident, and he thought he'd never play the drums again, till he saw an article in a magazine. You can actually watch the movie about the band and Rick Allans accident, the movie is called Hysteria, just like the album
Sadly not too long after this song was released the last three guitarist with the shoulder length hair (kinda straight). Rest in peace Steve Clarke
🙏🏽
Rick Allen lost his arm on December 31st 1984 when he rolled a Corvette & the seatbelt came undone & is what actually took his arm off . Rick Allen joined Def Leppard in 1978 after they're original drummer left , he was only 15 years old when he joined the band . When he had his wreck in 1984 he was only 22 years old & the album that they had just released & did a 9 month tour promoting . Went all the way to #2 on Billboard's top 100 albums countdown , right behind Michael Jackson's Thriller . And when he had his wreck , the rest of the band made the decision to walk away from music even though they were the next big thing to Michael Jackson , until he could come back or until he came to the rest of the band & said he couldn't do it anymore . And after almost 3 years away from music , they dropped the album that Pour Some Sugar On Me is on called Hysteria & to this day . Their Hysteria album has done something that no album in the last going on 36 years has done . That album had a total of 7 singles in the Billboard's top 100 count down . The first single called Woman boomed , it only got to #80 on the count down . But the other 6 singles from August of 87 - October of 88 , were all in the top 10 .
Rick Allen has some interviews on UA-cam including how he works his drums.
The delivery of the lyrics were inspired by RUN DC/Areosmith’s Walk this Way.
1987. I was 12. Listening to local rock radio and when this song came on and I heard if for first time I lost my pre teen mind. Even more so when I learned Rick Allen (drummer) lost his arm before this album was recorded. His nickname is The Thunder God, and for good reason
No he lost his left arm in a really bad car accident. The seat belt severed his arm completely. There's a write up about it in his wikipedia. You can see it online. His name is Rick Allen.
Do you gotta do reaction video to “SteelHeart - I’ll Never Let You Go (Angel Eyes)”. It’s most power ballad of the early 90s . You won’t be disappointed. 👍. Pour some suga on me! POUR SOME SUGA ON MEEEEEE!! Do you take sugar, 1 lump or TWO!! 🤣👍 . The drummer Rick Allen lost his arm to car wreck. His band never left him go so they make him a special flat drum set, which he uses his feet as “arm” also. They call him “The Thunder God”.
Make music that moves Women; the heart strings and infamy will follow.
Rick Allen lost his arm in a car accident and the band did not release this album for 5 years after that. They waited on him to relearn how to play.
The sugar is part of the female anatomy 😏
The drummer has one arm
3 or 4 singers ?
He got his arm cutte off in a car accident
Video ?
The drummer lost his are in a car accident
TBH, it would've been better to go with the original (with the better intro) rather than this remix (with the crap intro) from their Greatest Hits.
Also, the original video is much more fun:

How could anyone NOT love this song...with it's fun vibe, catchy lyrics, booming chorus, powerful guitar riffs and wicked thumping drums...it will go down in history as one of the greatest arena rock songs ever.
He's missing a arm
He got in a car accident and lost his arm
The band was VERY popular and gaining steam quickly when the drummer Rick Allen lost his arm in a car accident. They were pressured to ditch him and keep going but they refused, and sidelined themselves on purpose...waiting for him to heal and adapt himself to a new more foot oriented drum kit, then...they went on to create their biggest hits and became rock icons. I HAVE NOTHING BUT RESPECT FOR THE ENTIRE BAND.
Yeah that’s a great story, I’m happy they decided to stick it out and wait for him, and it also worked out well for them
WTF I can't believe that you played that whole damn video, then stopped it with 2 notes to go! 🤮
I can’t believe you live life caring about that
Great vid bro,
If you haven't?
Check out the band heart doing the cover of Stairway to Heaven at the Kennedy Center honoring led zeppelin. It's epic! Peace to you and yours brother.
