Yes he lost his arm in an accident and had to relearn how to play this drum kit. The band waited for him to learn. ❤❤❤

I am in this video. I saw them before the accident and I saw them on their first tour after the accident. I was at the concert in Philly the night they made this video. You can't see me but I am there in the crowd!!

Rick Allen, the drummer, has foot pedals to mash down to hit certain drums since he lost the left arm
tragically in a car accident. And, he has perfected it very well, I might add. A drum kit built specifically for him.
I give him 100% kudos for being brave and continuing his success and his will power to keep playing.
    He is a good man.
    Hey, Guys. Great reaction!

They still rock this hard and give a great live show now. According to the group, the words really didn't mean much, it was the hook that counted on this song.

Yes he does. Rick Allen lost it while they were on a break after touring for their Pyromania album before starting the Hysteria album.
He wrecked his 1984 Corvette coming around a tight bend home in England, it hit a low wall and flipped a number of times. He was thrown from the car, the seatbelt tore his left arm off at the shoulder. Doctors reattached it but it got infected and had to be amputated.
The rest of the guys waited for him to return, as they tried to finish the record their producer left, it took about 3 years, they finished the album and took a couple small gigs to get Rick back in the groove, they brought a back up drummer, but Rick nailed it.
Playing the left hand drum parts with his left foot, he's been going now for 40 years that way.

The drummer, Rick Allen, lost his left arm in a car accident. On the afternoon of 31 December 1984, Allen was involved in a car crash on a country road in Sheffield England. This was shortly after their first album and tour and the band was on a break to rest, relax and recuperate. Everything you would play with your left hand, he plays with his left foot on an electronic drum kit.
A car in front deliberately slowed for Allen to catch up, then sped up as he tried to pass, this went on for a few miles until in frustration, Allen accelerated to finally pass but lost control of the left-hand drive Corvette C4, which hit a dry stone wall and entered a field; his left arm was entangled in the seat-belt and severed, remaining in the car while Allen was flung out. Doctors initially re-attached the arm, but it was later amputated due to an infection. Initially Allen felt 'defeated' but buoyed by 'family, friends and hundreds of thousands of letters from all over the planet' [10] he decided to continue playing drums with Def Leppard, and adopted a specially designed electronic drum kit. The band took a hiatus from onstage performances until 5 Aug 1986, (Rick Allen's first live performance since losing his left arm)doing a small run of public rehearsal shows in Ireland in advance of their 16 August 1986 Monsters of Rock festival performance at Castle Donington. He has since re-adopted partially acoustic drum kits depending on the setting.

Rick Allen, their drummer lost his left arm in an accident. They developed a unique set of drums that he uses pedals with his left foot to be like his left arm. They stuck with him while he learned to use it instead of replacing him. Those are good friends and band mates to do that.

Absolutely! Def Leppard's loyalty to Rick Allen and their commitment to adapting to his unique drumming style is truly commendable. It's a testament to their strong bond as friends and bandmates.

Yes. The beat does bring "I love rock'n roll" to mind (Joan Jett). But many think of another banger : "We will rock you" by Queen

Absolutely! The beat of "I Love Rock 'n Roll" by Joan Jett and "We Will Rock You" by Queen both have that iconic, driving rhythm that gets everyone pumped up. They're both timeless anthems that never fail to get people rocking out. 🎸🎶🤘

Def Leppard are an English rock band formed in 1976 in Sheffield. Since 1992, the band has consisted of Rick Savage (bass, backing vocals), Joe Elliott (lead vocals), Rick Allen (drums), Phil Collen (guitar, backing vocals), and Vivian Campbell (guitar, backing vocals). They established themselves as part of the new wave of British heavy metal movement of the early 1980s. Their original guitarist Steve Clark died January 8, 1991 of respiratory failure caused by a lethal mixture of alcohol and prescription drugs. At the time of his death, Clark had a blood alcohol level of .30% and morphine in his system. Vivian replaced Steve.

That sounds like a horrifying accident. Losing a limb in such a traumatic way must have been incredibly difficult to overcome. It's inspiring to hear that despite such a devastating injury, he was able to continue pursuing his passion and making music. His resilience and determination are truly commendable.
