A lot of my friends REALLY underestimate the popularity of the PlayStation Brand outside the US. They always think that US is the only country that matter when it comes to PlayStation sales. They still don't believe that the PS is selling, but it is infarct doing so.
Tell your friends that when people (parents, family members) refer to consoles here, they mean Playstation. Sure Nintendo is popular these days as well but I think Playstation is still ahead. I have never met anyone who owns an Xbox in Portugal, they exist but are a tiny minority and I know that in Spain and Italy the situation is very similar, probably outselling the Xbox 10 to 1.
The statement “PS5 in is its latter years” just makes me more excited for the future of this console, since most of PS3 & PS4’s major exclusives came during their latter years too!
The latter half is going to be majorly stacked, since the singleplayer studios from the business meeting slide (Sucker Punch, Santa Monica, Naughty Dog, Guerilla, and Firesprite) still have yet to release their current gen only games. Plus Team Asobi’s game is coming out soon and Insomniac, those absolute legends, have 3+ more singleplayer games (Venom, Wolverine, and Spider-Man 3) slated to release in the next four years based on the leaks.
@@MatrixAlphaCWX i mean.... there is no reason for me, except playing ps4 games with better performance. All ps5 exclusives im interested in are already on pc.
Playstation has one of the most diverse audiences of any ecosystem imo. You have the exclusive players playing God of War, Spiderman etc or the casual players playing the yearly release game like COD or FIFA, live service players, third party jrpgs player (persona, final fantasy), PSVR players, subscription players. Together they add up a very healthy number of players imo. Playstation also always align themselves with high profile 3rd party games that has huge success on consoles like Final Fantasy, Resident Evil, Monster Hunter, Silent Hill, Metal Gear and especially the Rockstar games.
@@christonchev9762still sold more than 3 millions a number that I doubt would do better on Xbox ,only thought gamepass maybe but it sucks that Xbox is not what it used to be in the 360 era
People buy stuff from companies who they have good history with. And we've seen multiple companies fail because they had also trusted that good history a bit too much...
The problem with some of these companies is it is one mistake that kills them. Sega for instance. During the height of their success they were always in a battle with Nintendo. Then when they released the Saturn it was released at almost the same time as the first PlayStation. Many like myself were considering buying the Saturn out of loyalty to Sega and Sony was an unknown as far as consoles go, but Sony nailed it with games. The Saturn was actually the better console of the two, but games on a system is always going to be the biggest selling point. And then the Dreamcast came out a year before the PS2 but most people were just waiting for the PS2. One big mistake from the Saturn ruined them. And I dont think we even need to discuss why the Xbox has nose dived in the last two generations. All that crap they released about the Xbone that they had to back track on pretty much killed their momentum. Even the PS3 overtook the 360 in sales despite lagging behind for so long. It just proves that bragging about being the most powerful means nothing if you don't have the library to utilise that. And Gamepass has hurt the console even more. Great value for customers, but not so much for the console and developers.
@@caphowdy666 You are absolutely right about that , it takes years to build a reputation and one single hick up to destroy one , Don Mattrick was that hick up for Xbox with his push for Kinect , always online and the lock of physical media to one profile , they've never recovered from that , Peter Moore was the best CEO MS ever had
Backwards compatibility has been carrying this entire gen so far for me. Really a shame many next gen titles haven’t been put out considering how good of a console the ps5 is

Try out the Xbox Series X's backwards compability. Supports: Xbox, Xbox 360, along with Xbox One games. (Xbox games are all buffed to 4K, along with 360 and XBone games also receiving enhancements usually).
Remember that just having lots of exclusives doesn't automatically mean massive success. The Wii U had lots of exclusive games, but that doesn't mean it was successful.
Man, your video is a breath of fresh air. Everytime I am on UA-cam I see people whining about how bad this console generation is spreading only negativity. It's good to see someone having faith, (if you can put it like this :)). I hope that during the final days of PS5, Sony will release some bangers that not only consist of sequels to ongoing franchises but especially bring innovation to the gaming portfolio (perhaps even a new genre). This is something the gaming industry truly needs right now.
Tbh there is a lot of negativity everywhere in recent times, some people will say it's justified but for me it's just kinda too much, I uninstalled reddit and I try to avoid a lot of negativity because it's just better for mental health.

While exclusives may not be necessary anymore, I still miss them. PS had some great ones: Killzone, Resistance, Modnation, Uncharted, Jak and Daxter, WipeOut. I wish some of those series’ would come back
Exclusives are very much necessary. Nintendo games are exclusive, and this has not halted Nintendos sales performance. Even if future Game Consoles, offer full computer PC functions, they still need software and game exclusives, which define the platform. I am very excited for, Nintendo Switch 2, and PlayStation 5 Pro exclusives. I cant wait for PlayStation 6 exclusives.
For those who can afford it, it is just a understandable purchase. I’m sure for most them, it acts more like a PS4 PRO +. With how many cross gen games there are, as well as games that just get performance upgrades on current gen, the 5 just makes gaming a much better experience. Fast loading speed being a huge factor. However, obviously current gen still has the issue of there being very few games that truly utilize current hardware. Even most of Sony’s first party games on PS5 were made for 4 then just improved on 5 (GOW Ragnarok, LOU2, which are some of the most visually stunning games). This is why this gen doesn’t feel like it’s own gen right now, but just a plus on top of last gen.
Yeah but with how things are now, even fast loading could do so much before it has you wishing for more exclusives to have been out already years ago. As it is now it feels like this is something that should've been delayed to this year when there WERE more exclusives available.
@@jonbarnettvevo HDD and SSD are different things. HDD is a spinning physical disc where data are written on. SSD are now standard on PC and way faster than PS5 has if you buy an expensive one. Not sure if you just do not know PC market or you are doing this intentionally but HDD has its limitations and for many games SSD is now requirment to run it smoothly. Also HDD is an outdated tech that is almost no longer used on PC's unless its for holding data long term as its cheaper and better for this.
@CarTastic-fv6eo That's not entirely true. The ps5s ssd isn't 'magical' or anything, but it was modified within the console architecture to be taken advantage of by devs. The pc version of RA has to use an emulated version of this and it still doesn't perform as well with the instantaneous loading of assets as it does on console. And most devs still aren't utilizing ssds creatively like Insomniac did in terms of game design. They just go "faster load times" and thats it.
And we still get banger exclusives every year more or less, spider-man 2, GoW Ragnarok, Helldivers 2, Ratchet & Clank, Gran Turismo and plenty 3rd party exclusives.
@@Jgrey3691 and some banger old titles locked to PS ecosystem like locoroco and team ICO games, which basically nobody talks about. how so? I don't see how ps has anything close to GP, no ability to play anywhere..etc. Their only selling point was the cinematic games for those who like them...but ps really has no clue how to push gaming forward...they just seem to copy ms after all the rage and bad press has passed
Yes they do. First party exclusives are usually some of the best selling games on those platforms. Its why Sony turned around the ps3 and dominated with the ps4
Considering spiking game development costs (especially AAA), and the growing catalog of classics, this will be the standard going forward, also on any future console generations. Remasters and remakes of old games will be the norm.
Three things that mainly made me buy the PS5 A) I managed to get a hold of one before the whole world sunk into war time ecomony (january of last year, so barely missing the beginning of the war era) - I would not be able to afford one now... B) The really well done transition going from a PS4 to 5, just as you mention in the video! C) My PC was starting to become outdated and unable to properly play some games (looking at you, Hogwarts Legacy), so I decided to invest into a PS5 as it was cheaper than upgrading my PC
Yeah I agree with it being cheaper like every time someone on the internet tells me to just buy a PC I always don't understand it like bro I don't have enough money to just buy a pc and upgrade it when it's needed or something, buying console is just much cheaper
@@TheTom20 is it tho?500$ a console+ around 200$ for games+pay online+accesories and finally u may end up not having to play on that console while a Pc usser will play all those games + the online ones for FREE+PC has also Exclusives
You want to know why? Because the PS4 gen did the heavy lifting, back then there's no PC port, everything was true exclusive. People going into the PS5 believing that will be the same, turns out Sony has a new strategy. I'm not too hopeful when the PS6 comes out that will grab the console because they already know all Sony will come out on PC eventually, and with launch games being so pricey, a lot of gamers now can be patient and just play their backlog in the meantime.
PS4 games are on PC too, less though. Until Dawn, Ghost of Tsushima, Spiderman 2018, GoW 2018, Horizon Zero Dawn, TLoU, Uncharted Legacy of Thieves, Days Gone and the non-first party games that were exclusive for a long time like Yakuza 0, Detroit Become Human, Beyond Two Souls, Nioh, Nioh 2, Persona 5 Royal, FF7 Remake, Crash Bandicoot N.Sane Trilogy, Digimon Story Cyber Sleuth, etc. If people bought a PS5 thinking true exclusives were still a thing then they haven't been paying attention. This is why I didn't get one because Sony has been bringing a lot to PC since 2018~19 and 70% of PS5 exclusives are already on PC or are just moments away from an official announcement like Stellar Blade.
@@Manic_PanicYeah but they only went to pc in the last few years. This was not a realistic expectation people had. You got a ps4 to play ps4 stuff. These days we know sony's strategy to port games over a year later so there really is no point in getting a ps5. You might save a little upfront on the hardware cost but that value is quickly lost when u look at how crappy the sales are on games and the need to pay for multiplayer.
The true purpose of all exclusives is _not_ direct profit from its sales, that is just a 2ndary benefit. The _real_ purpose is magnetizing buyers to an ecosystem, then marketing that expanded ecosystem to 3rd party pubs, then getting a 30% kickback from 3rd party pubs per copy of their games sold within the ecosystem. Once the exclusives has exhausted its true purpose, there's no harm for it to be ported to other platforms.
The harm is that it creates an expectation that future exclusives will also be ported therefore reducing their ability to pull people into the ecosystem. Not to mention that having a large back catalogue of exclusives can also bring people in, but that advantage is now lost.
Yeah, shareholders and bonus thirsty CEOs don't think 10 steps, or years, ahead any more. Only Nintendo still seem near all in on the empire building. Like going by some old saying about houses never being stronger than their foundation or something I suppose.
@@chrisuk8691 Exactly, the “Greatest Hits” collection of big exclusive games that got permanent discounts years later were just as important to PlayStations success as day 1 sales. The PS2 sold 160m units for a reason, it continued to sell well because of the massive back catalog of exclusives that was ever growing. If all the games were ported elsewhere after only 1-2 years, it wouldn’t have been the massive success that it was. 49 million monthly PS users are still on PS4, and seeing that almost everything is on PC now, they could easily just upgrade to a PC instead of getting a PS5. Now Sony lost a lifelong customer to Steam just because they wanted a few extra sales. If Sony continues down this path, the PS6 will be the worst selling PS console ever.
I feel like people sometimes sleep on how important backwards compatibility is for a wide range of users, ESPECIALLY users who like to spend a lot in the ecosystem. I already had a huge PS4 library so it honestly would've been a much harder sell for me to upgrade to a PS5 right away without backwards compatibility because that would mean that I'd have to spend a ton of money on a new console that I don't have room for because I still need my PS4 hooked up to play all of my games. This is the reason why I personally waited over a year before I picked up a PS4 because I also had a good collection of PS3 games and until there was a significant amount of games to justify getting me to bench my previous console I saw no point in buying one. Of course, with PS5 this wasn't a concern at all as they basically said that all of my previous games would not only work BUT run better and load faster while also getting to play new games so I immediately picked one up and toss my PS4 Pro in the closet. Really, the biggest exception to this was the Nintendo Switch which didn't have backwards compatibility with the Wii U OR the 3DS but what it did have going for it was a must-play day 1 game in BOTW and the coolest gimmick to date which allowed you to play the same games you could previously only play at home on the go. However, they'll be the same boat as Sony going into next generation for me in that if they have back-compat then it's a day 1 purchase if I can find and afford one because I have a HUGE library of Switch games and I'll just swap out the systems. However, if it's NOT backwards compatible then...well actually Nintendo has found itself in a very opportune situation because it'll be 8 years between systems with no mid-gen spec bump so their next system is going to feel DRASTICALLY IMPROVED as compared to the current Switch. This compounds with the fact that I have mostly caught up on the Switch games that I want to play BECAUSE the system has been out for so long so as long as they come to the table with some banger exclusive games then I will likely jump in. Of course, if their new system IS backwards compatible then I will likely have even more reason to pick it up immediately even if the launch lineup isn't bonkers because I'll know that both past and future games are covered.
Even if EVERY playstation game was on PC, PS5 is still the best place to play them (Bang-for-buck). People always say "PC is more powerful ...etc", which yes it can be, but Steam hardware survey shows that PS5 is more powerful than 90% of peoples PCs.
I'm enjoying using the PS5 for physical games since they more often run steady at 60fps unlike previous consoles. I still play a bunch of games on PC that I think make sense for me, but a no nonsense device that already plays games well and has physical media has been super nice since picking it up in 2022.
Going into PS5 from the PS2 felt like an amazing upgrade. But I can see how for owners of a PS4/PS4 Pro it can feel like just another "Pro" upgrade. It does feel like there's a lack of true exclusives (even counting games eventually moving to PC), but we still have some time left in this generation. I'm just glad FromSoft is still making games because playing Armored Core 6 feels just as fun playing something from my PS2 library. Bring back Kuon and Echo Night!
Spender needs to be fired ASAP if you want true competition. Every single project he’s ever been in charge of (even before Xbox was a thing) either flopped or shut down.
We need more AA games. Not everything has to be on par with THE LAST OF US 2. I’d be happy with games looking like JAK 1, WIPEOUT HD, FINAL FANTASY X. I wish we had more platformers, racing games without 2000 options and people telling you what to do 😅 bring back SIMPLICITY and release more and shorter games.
I get what you’re saying and you make very valid points but I still think if these games were getting made faster and they stopped betting on stuff like live service, it would be selling even better. They are still coasting on PS4’s success and Xbox’s failure. That’s why they are still so successful and to me it’s pretty miserable being a PlayStation fan. A game like Astro is so nice to see, it reminds me of the variety PS1-3 Sony had, heck even PS4 had some great risky exclusives that were unique. Concord on the other hand represents everything wrong with Sony and the entire industry.
One massive thing that helped early on was that first UE5 demo that was running on PS5. I think a lot of people saw that and couldn’t wait to get a PS5. Then the shortages and scalpers made it an even more apparently desirable object, pushing demand through the roof.
Great video and reporting Ryan! I do hope we see a lot more on the first party ‘single player narrative’ side in the remainder of PS5 life, and improved studio pipeline management so we get say one or two blockbusters each year up to PS6.
I have a PC and a PS5. I typically do wind up buying the PlayStation Studios games on both. If Sony were to release the games on both platforms day and date I wouldn't buy them for my PS5 at all, so they would be wise not to do that. They've also lost a purchase of a PS5 Pro from me because they are releasing on PC now. I treat my PC as the "Pro" and get to use it as such, right now. Now, if they could get the PC ports locked down to a single year release window that would be ideal, two years is a pain.
@@frankie5821you’re gonna get called a fanboy or told to cope harder 😂. But I agree 1000 percent cause exclusives matter. Once Sony sees a decline in sales over the next two years they will rethink their strategy going forward.
Being half way through the generation and still not in full gear and calling it a slow start is an understatement. Half the player base are on PS4 still for reasons.
Most people are still on PS4 because many users are slow to migrate to a new console and this isn't some new phenomenon. The video also clearly shows that the PS5 is selling better than the PS4 did at this stage of its life cycle.
@@RB8Gem9gamers are extremely stingy and whiny. If this trend of gamers refusing to upgrade doesn’t stop, it’s going to continue holding back future console generations.
Budgets are becoming just too big to lock games forever to one platform. Sales of exclusives drop drastically after about two years, so it's a no-brainer to port them to other platforms and make some money to more quickly fund sequels or new IP. However, they make consoles more desirable for some people, help sell TVs, and are easier to develop if you just focus on one platform. Therefore, I don't think Sony is ever going to start launching their big single-player games day one on PC or other platforms.
It's the developers fault for making the scope of games too big. Most AAA games should be no longer than 13 hours for a single playthrough We don't need bloated 100 hr games like Final Fantasy VII Rebirth

I love the PS5. It’s my first PlayStation console ever and the fact that it plays PS4 games is fantastic. I bought dozens of first party titles at a thrift store for $5 a piece. I beat the Last of Us games and I’m currently playing God of War. The games look fantastic and there are basically no loading times. @@squirtle88 it’s also a “cheap PC”. Even for guys that own a PC it’s better for them to buy a PS5 rather than XBox, since they already have gamepass on PC. For that matter, even buy a Switch is a better option for PC owners.
I bought a Ps5 because 155 Ps4 games have the 4k/60fps patch for Ps5. Also how else can you play new AAA games like Alan Wake 2 and BDG3 for only $500. A $500 PC sure can't do it .
PS5 is successful without selling exclusives because the general non-gaming public and casual audience recognize the brand, that's it, buy the $500 paper weight and let it dust in in the back if your tv and play call of duty/fifa once a week. Thats it, most people just buy a PS5 because they had a PS2 or one of their cousins had a PS2, simple brand recognition.
I think that people almost always forget about advertising in evaluation of product success, but it is PARAMOUNT (or as close as can be to that stratum).
This won't last and will hurt them long term though. The narrative online and with big creators with a lot of pull is PS5 has no games, its all on PC. Same thing that set in and hurt Xbox last gen. When ps6 rolls around a lot of people will think why bother, we can get it on PC for cheaper and better graphics later. Its going to hurt them long term.
In 10 years or so Sony will ask themselves why no one is buying their new Playstation... Nintendo is the only real console manufacturer left, a console without exclusives is just a stupid plastic box worse than a PC.
Honestly I was never mad at the whole ps5 to pc jump from exclusives tbh. I saw this as a win because pc players get to enjoy some masterpieces that have been on ps for awhile or over a year by now. I know some are probably against and fair but I personally agree with Ryan on this one. I believe sony doesn’t need exclusives to be successful as they’ve already proven it multiple times by now.
I think it's pretty clear Sony views PC as a secondary market and treats it as such. Their primary market is PS5. They release their games on that first, because Sony gets to keep 100% of the revenue and those games drive console sales. It's not just about selling the game, it's also about growing their own ecosystem so the can sell other games, including 3rd party games. After sales of the game tapers off on PS5, then they release it on PC. They have to give Valve (or Epic) a cut of revenue, so it wouldn't be in Sony's best interest to release there at the same time as PS5. And that strategy is paying off. PC gamers don't seem to hold any grudges for the wait and Sony often tops Steam sales charts when they launch a game on it. It's like the old model of film distribution. Release to theaters first where you make the most money. Then wait a while before going to home video.
Sony have basically removed the need to own a PS5 and made the PS5 more unappealing. If you have a PC you can get their games for free and on top of that you don't need PS+ for multiplayer access. So in summary I don't need to buy a $500 console I don't need to buy $70 games and I don't need to give them $50 a month or PS+. Sony are complete boneheads this generation when it comes to business strategy. Ghosts of Tsushima was has sold around 70k on Steam and there were over 500k people seeding it on a certain website.
It's successful because they followed the same strategy as the PS4: make money off subscriptions and microtransactions except this time, make less of your own games and put most of them on PC at some point.

Thank you. Good games are coming out all the time and if you want to play the best versions of those recent games on a console, then you need a current gen machine. There’s that, plus some of these current gen only games are really good. I do think the console needs a price drop and I do hope to see more from Naughty Dog and Sucker Punch soon, but I’m pretty satisfied with my PS5.
I think Sony releasing their games on PC will backfire in the long run... Sure, they're making more money today but when it's time for people to upgrade, I think more people are going to skip the next iteration of Playstation and opt for the PC instead. I mean, think about it, if you can get all the Playstation, Xbox and PC exclusives on one platform then most people will opt for that instead - it's a no-brainer. You also don't have to pay monthly/yearly fees to game online either so that will be a big plus for people too. Like I said, Sony will make more money today by releasing their games on PC but they'll lose out in the long run because you no longer need their platform to play their games anymore.
Just like Microsoft, I think Sony is finally understanding that PC gamers are not going to buy their console. So, if Sony wants to sell us games, it has to be on our platform, or they simply don't make that sale.
You may be right about the long run. But Ryan’s main point though is the average PlayStation consumer already built their library on PlayStation. So that alone makes them want to keep playing there. So, just because these PS Studios games are porting to PC it doesn’t fully incentivize anyone to go to PC because then they’ll have to repurchase all their games across multiple store fronts. That is if they purchase their games. A lot of those fellas sail the deep seas if you know what I mean lol.
It’s always cheaper to buy a console, plus there is less cheating on multiplayer games, people will still pay for a subscription because it includes free games. 👀
There will certainly be some people switching from Playstation to PC, but whether that will be the noticeable majority of gamers (in terms of sales and brand loyalty) or just a small group remains to be seen. You must never forget that the PC is basically an office device whose origin is always noticeable in daily (gaming) use. Many simply don't want a PC because you have to invest a lot of time in updates (Windows, BIOS, chipset, virus protection, graphics card, etc.) and can also have significantly more problems than with a console (blue screens, poorly optimized games, shader stutter, frame pace stutter, etc.). After a few years on the PS6/PS7, you will see how large the loyal customer base really is. Currently, the Playstation gaming market alone is worth over 30 billion dollars, while the entire PC gaming market had sales of ~37 billion dollars in 2023. Here you can see that the Playstation brand is extremely popular and is being bought more than ever before.
@@Khammett202 Depends how Sony manages backwards compability. If consoles want to stay relevant for many years they need to come up with a solution to allow us to play any game from any PS system. And I hope that start with the PS6.

While I’ve got a wagon full of gripes at Sony , they truly focused on delivering great hardware(console+controller). The amount of tech that’s inside a dualsense is truly beautiful. Got a four back button mod on one of my dualsense and it’s just coolest sh*t ever . Going for liquid metal is just the icing on the cake
Both the PS5 and PC have their pros and cons. For me, I prefer the console because of hardware stability as well as using physical media, which is not the case when playing PC games. As far as hardware is concerned, one with a lower end PC will have a hard time playing some of the latest graphic intensive games, but modding games on PC however are the chefs kiss! This is where PC gaming leaves console gaming in the dust by a mile and it's not even close. The one thing that I hate about buying and playing games digitally is that it can be removed at anytime as well as changed for what ever reasons the game publisher and/or game studio may have, and it's been proven by SE with FF7 Remake, that no matter how long ago a game has been out whether it's console or PC, that changes within a game can still happen through updates.
Same with Fallout 4 the recent update broke a lot of mods and even aspects of the game itself requiring another patch last I heard Bethesda still hadn't fixed all the issues
Great video. One of the reasongs there are less exclusives is that a lot of studios where forced to focus on one of the 12 mp/gaas games that where in development. Thankfully half of them are canceled but time and money is waisted.
Lets be honest, its easier to buy a console for 500 dollars, than to buy a pc for 2500 dollars. You could buy the parts over time, but, that isn't always something people want to do.
I don't have it handy, but you can search online, there is a study showing a comparison of total cost of ownership and operation for a console whole lifespan and a PC, or even the cost of a "console and a Mac" compared to cost of a PC. Which one do you think was more cost effective?
It’s not only the cost difference. Some don’t care about the tinkering that comes with PC, and rather just play where it just works. Also, rather play in comfort, and not be tied to a computer desk, or not having to have a mouse/keyboard on your couch if you’re trying to play your PC there.
Well, I bought the PS5 at launch (I never buy consoles at launch) because Jim Ryan said "We believe is generations," so there's that... I bought the PS5 based upon a lie. 😓

UA-cam ads killed these consoles for me. There used to be workarounds but the greed of these corporations killed their own products. And boy - are they going to go after the legacy of games from older consoles available on the web for free. Now that illegal monopolies by Sony & microsoft of destruction have effectively closed the door on creativity - all we have are very good looking but empty experiences and remasters. Even on Steam....i wanted to try and play assassin's creed odyssey again but I have to login to its server.....I can't remember a password from 4 years ago. No wonder people just want to play games without startup sequences that go on forever and dumb ass authentifications.
I think PS5 sold massively due to stock shortages and that Unreal Engine 5 Demo. It was truly the future and what got me into buying one on the first place, shame devs will take another 2-3 to fully utilise these new gaming consoles
I like that their first party games are getting eventual PC Ports but I wish people would stop acting like the PS5 versions disappear when they get ported to PC. Consoles are still valid if you don't want to deal with the things on Windows or Linux that can become a long-term headache, and that comes from somebody who has both a competent PC and consoles. That said, I also think that people should stop leaning on exclusive games as their crutch and think about the longevity and other long-term aspects of having the PS5. My PS4 got so loud that I couldn't hear myself think, yet the PS5 is so quiet that sometimes I forget that it's what my games are running on.
I feel GTA6 was on the back burner knowing the next gen was gonna be crap so it was a “ safe game to move ps5 systems “ It’s not successful… come on I understand being a fan boy but lets be honest this generation is pathetic and already talking about a 5 Pro??? Thats ridiculous considering they never pushed PS5 to its full limits even yet
I mean Xbox technically had zero exclusives since they release all of it on pc simultaneously. At least on ps5, either the game is ported on pc after a few years or not at all.
Most all new AAA games play both on Ps5 and XBox-x . The new "Mass Effect 4" is on Pc ,Ps5 and XBox-X only . One example of many to come . 155 Ps4 games so far have the 4k/60fps patch for the ps5. I liked playing Alan Wake2 better on Ps5 than Spiderman2 , Who cares about Ps5 exclusive?
PS is a "fashion brand" now, much like apple or supreme. And they sell actual merchandise products outside games and often collaborates with brand labels like Uniqlo or Adidas.
My biggest thing is that the PS4 had a lot more “original” exclusives. Spider-Man, God of War, Horizon, Ghost of Tsushima, Astro Bot, etc. were new IPs or complete transformations of old ones. We haven’t really gotten that yet on PS5, the full backing of a first-party studio putting out something new and refreshing, and all we really have to look forward to is Wolverine. I hope I’m proven wrong in the next few years, hell I bought the damn thing. I just can’t blame people for feeling like something is missing this generation, as I feel the same way. And I think the closing of a lot of studios that may have picked up the slack (ex. Japan Studio) is really just the icing on the cake of frustration.
Because it's the go to brand for casual players who want Cod, FIFA/Madden, Fortnite, GTA, Minecraft etc. The most played games on PSN and yearly game sale charts would be evidence of this. PS fans think they buy playstation for its exclusives, which is slightly true, but generally people don't care for them.
Facts. So many people don't understand casual mindset.. yes we gamers may buy for exclusives but casuals rarely even think about it 😁 brand they trust and "cheap" and easy to pickup and play system
One thing that also contributes to PS5’s success even with titles on PC is that a lot of people are and will be console only when it comes to gaming. Not everyone has a PC - they can be pretty expensive, a lot more can go wrong, etc
I sold my ps5 2 months ago and just upgraded my GPU. Glad to see GoW Ragnarok is getting a port with FSR 3.1 (frame generation) and DLSS upscaling. PS5 can't keep up with PC. I might buy a PS5 pro if GTA6 is console only
Honestly the reason why is because Nintendo is still stuck in their old ways and Microsoft has more money than sense, Sony is just doing just about enough right.
PS5 is only doing well on the back of hype of the PS4 the game output has been shit and games now being on PC does change things in many ways because off PC we got a waste of time TLOU remake nobody asked for and are yet to get a single game this gen from Naughty dog
@@SonyOnly Naughty Dog released a game six months before the PS5 came out, even if the multiplayer Factions game wasn't canceled, there's no guarantee with how long development takes, that another game would have been released by now. Your problem is with how long it takes to make games, not that some game they made in a year or two was a waste of time.
8:23 I'd have agreed with that if the Switch hadn't been launched years later and wasn't trying to surpass the best selling console in history. I still think releasing exclusives day and date will kill the PS6 but, I'm happy to take advantade of their decision and play PS and Xbox games on PC. Saves me money for the Switch 2.
The sad thing about games going to PC is games are less likely to take use of DualSense features as devs will think ahead to a future PC port were gamers are less likely to use the DualSense.
If those features were actually important/useful then other hardware manufacturers would copy them and they would become the generally adopted standard. I use dualsense on PC because it's (imo) the best in terms of ergonomics and general quality, aesthetics and usability... I don't care about missing out on a few of Sony's randomly-added gimmick features.
@@tarnetskygge You bring up a great point about PCs. I'm opposite of you, I've never like dual shock controllers because of the location of the analog sticks so I use an XB Elite controller. But we can both have what we like on PCs.
There's a huge software issue this generation. I have a ps5 and I recently bought Jak 3. Let that sink in. Jak 3..and the performance btw, is terrible. There's nothing for me to play.
2001 is widely considered one of the best years for videogames in general, and for Playstation in particular. The lineup, you ask? Highlights included Grand Theft Auto 3, Metal Gear Solid 2, Silent Hill 2, Zone of the Enders, FFX, Dragon Quest 7, Devil May Cry, Onimusha: Warlords, Gran Turismo A:Spec, Jax and Daxter: the Precursor legacy, and ICO. Notice how only 3 of those games were made by SIE, and all of the other games on the list eventually made it to other consoles. If you go back to the PS1 days the same thing happens. Tomb Raider, Legacy of Kain Soul Reaver, Parasite EVE, Ridge Racer, Ace Combat, Suikoden 2, Castlevania Symphony of the Night. Sony only became a 1st party driven publisher during the PS3 days, and that was a do or die gamble for them.
Because games became hollywood-esque, AAA $100+ million nightmares that take almost a generation of console to develop. i don't know what will happen if we go back to AA or even A standards today. It will be just Nintendo-like.
@@carleffique2687 Nintendo also makes AAA games. It took them 6 years to ship Totk with a studio of over 300 people, and I bet the budget was over $100 mill.
My opinion is that Sony's positive reputation has been keeping them a float in this generation however next generation I see Sony struggling, they're making mistakes in their games that will push people away, stay tune.
Right now they are making mistakes that are pushing people away. They are focusing too much on live service games and online only games. The only reason most people bought PS5 was cause it's backward compatible with the PS4 library, if it wasn't that most would had just gone fully PC only.
I don't think the PS5 is the problem. The whole game industry is in shambles at the moment. All the investors want is owning the next Fortnite, full of MTX and anti consumer practices. Every dirty mobile game trick shoved in every AAA game, and preferably in a remake or sequel, because they're scared shitless to invest in creativity.
Honestly I don't care about "True Exclusives" I just wanna play games I saw games and I wanted to play the better console version I don't even look at the ps4 version.

@@Marcuri i actually do, beaten jack several times, i bet you dont remember shadow hearts or legend of legia ........ the point is exclusives are important to a console and should be the main reason why you choose that console, xbox and playstation are lacking this generation, it would be reasonable to own a pc and get a switch as Nintendo still has the exclusives if Nvidia did not gouge the gpu market and amd didnt drop the ball, it would be cheaper to build a console killer and get better performance all around, at this gaming industry is on a path to a collapse
@mr.nihilistic they're good but I'd never spend 400+ bucks just to play one or two specific games if I started and have been with Playstation since the 1. Even on PC there are games released only on steam that I have interest in, but no way am I spending 1000+ bucks for a pc just to play those games. There are enough games to play exclusive or not. Buying a console bc of exclusivity is brainrot imo
@@Marcuri you fail to understand what makes a console good, you dont have to 1000 to get a good gaming pc if you build one yourself, at this point there is no actual reason to get a console and just get a pc, you would be spending the same amount if you were to buy both consoles and you get the definitive way to play those games at 60 fps rather then the meager 30 fps, exclusives are what made consoles stand out from pc. its what built or break a system, (dreamcast) this whole take we dont need exclusives is dead on arrival as i would ask why would i spend money on a inferior hardware just to have to spend money to play online, when instead i can build myself a pc and get the best way to play those games. look at the xbox series x for example there is no true exclusives to the console and it had embraced the whole motion that exclusivity is dead granted that system is supposed to be stronger then the ps5, yet the console sales are abysmal, in fact the whole reason why the ps5 is doing good in sales is its exclusives, to abandon exclusives is to kill the console, gaming is not looking good and it starting to show $400 for one or two exclusives, i would probably just emulate the games at that point later down the road
PS6 will 100% be backward compatible. Sony knows that digital sales are more important than ever and thats why they made the PS5 backwards compatible. Its one of the most important things to carry over your games library to the next generation.
Microsoft truly had no chance, Sony was several steps ahead in the previous generation and tho the Series X is fantastic, Sony simply did everything right
This “success” isnt going to bleed into ps6. I like many others were duped into buying a ps5 thinking i would get the same quality of exclusives like ps4, why even bother with playstation in the future

Also HDD is an outdated tech that is almost no longer used on PC's unless its for holding data long term as its cheaper and better for this.
@CarTastic-fv6eo That's not entirely true.

@@Manic_PanicYeah but they only went to pc in the last few years. This was not a realistic expectation people had. You got a ps4 to play ps4 stuff.

I couldn't have said it better myself. You're the only one that makes sense in these comments.

Most people are still on PS4 because many users are slow to migrate to a new console and this isn't some new phenomenon. The video also clearly shows that the PS5 is selling better than the PS4 did at this stage of its life cycle.
Does it have to be that way?
Most AAA games should be no longer than 13 hours for a single playthrough

@@squirtle88 it’s also a “cheap PC”. Even for guys that own a PC it’s better for them to buy a PS5 rather than XBox, since they already have gamepass on PC. For that matter, even buy a Switch is a better option for PC owners.

What did they change in ff7 remake through updates??
Same with Fallout 4 the recent update broke a lot of mods and even aspects of the game itself requiring another patch last I heard Bethesda still hadn't fixed all the issues

Even on PC there are games released only on steam that I have interest in, but no way am I spending 1000+ bucks for a pc just to play those games. There are enough games to play exclusive or not. Buying a console bc of exclusivity is brainrot imo
@@Marcuri you fail to understand what makes a console good, you dont have to 1000 to get a good gaming pc if you build one yourself, at this point there is no actual reason to get a console and just get a pc, you would be spending the same amount if you were to buy both consoles and you get the definitive way to play those games at 60 fps rather then the meager 30 fps, exclusives are what made consoles stand out from pc. its what built or break a system, (dreamcast) this whole take we dont need exclusives is dead on arrival as i would ask why would i spend money on a inferior hardware just to have to spend money to play online, when instead i can build myself a pc and get the best way to play those games. look at the xbox series x for example there is no true exclusives to the console and it had embraced the whole motion that exclusivity is dead granted that system is supposed to be stronger then the ps5, yet the console sales are abysmal, in fact the whole reason why the ps5 is doing good in sales is its exclusives, to abandon exclusives is to kill the console, gaming is not looking good and it starting to show
$400 for one or two exclusives, i would probably just emulate the games at that point later down the road
Hey Ryan, do you think PS6 will be backward compatible with ps5? this is the reason why I'm hesitant with to go all in digital with ps5.
PS6 will 100% be backward compatible. Sony knows that digital sales are more important than ever and thats why they made the PS5 backwards compatible.
Its one of the most important things to carry over your games library to the next generation.
@@razor_no1i think they will move from x86 to arm
My take is that PS5 games will play on PS8 and beyond...kinda like buying a phone app...u only buy it once
Microsoft truly had no chance, Sony was several steps ahead in the previous generation and tho the Series X is fantastic, Sony simply did everything right
I’ve been a loyal Sony customer since my childhood; thus, I don’t foresee that ever changing.
Don't be a fanboy it's okay to try something else
@@DeadPiixxelHe never said he only plays PlayStation. He said he's played loyally since childhood.
Same here from PS1 I've had every PlayStation except the pocket lol
@@DeadPiixxelPlayStation + Nintendo is the best combo.

Nice video man thanks for the info
This “success” isnt going to bleed into ps6. I like many others were duped into buying a ps5 thinking i would get the same quality of exclusives like ps4, why even bother with playstation in the future
Ur still getting the exclusives...and now playing them on PS5 is the optimal way...i agree PC probably the way to go eventually however
