@@MALICEM12 The person responsible for the knife. I agree with that response. Regarding the topic of the video, i think the main goal should be to not center mainly around the two groups of "edgy" and "soft", as i find it just isn't descriptive enough of all gamers. To get back to the knife analogy, you won't be issued a box cutter as a soldier. The same way , you won't see Amazon workers opening boxes with bayonets. That is what is in my opinion happening with games. You have people who like the edgyness being forced to tone down games for people who did not even sign up for the experience, and people who like progressive, toned down but still exciting games that suddenly try compete with edgy games like its a presidental debate and judge the other party. Honestly, if the industry did not try to make games into live services, selling digital copies, following trends and trying to pull all sides of the gaming scene into their overworked IPs there would be far less of these problems. So basically i dont think its an edge vs soft problem, but its a problem of the industry being not about passion but making as much money and getting it to as many people. Just give your soldiers bayonets, give the amazon workers box cutters, give the gardeners shears, the hikers swiss knives... just please your target audience. Other audiences won't touch it. If they do want to, they will have to learn to not cut themselves on new more serious blades, and those used to more intense ones will have to learn to chill and take it from a different perspective. It's a fundamental misunderstanding of cause and effect which has pushed the industry into a death spiral. In trying to make games that appeal to "everyone" they end up making games that appeal to no one, which results in fewer sales, which leads to the publishers panicking and thinking they need to appeal to an even WIDER audience to compensate, which results in even more customer apathy... All of it, just because they refused to accept the premise that gaming in general just appeals more to men than women. It's like if cosmetics companies suddenly said "You know, women are 98% of our market and I think that's a problem. If we marketed our makeup to men, we could get an extra 50% customer base!" So they start marketing their makeup heavily at men. But men aren't really interested in buying makeup, and the focus on men turns off women, so the company just goes out of business. Gaming companies aren't just chasing a female audience that isn't interested, but they're also now chasing an LGBTQIAWTFBBQ++ audience which is...what? At most like 2% of the potential market? And by marketing towards THEM, they're turning off the 98% of customers that aren't interested in pronouns and "body type A" on the character creation screens. Know your audience.

If the game doesn't let me make the horrible choices, making the good ones holds no meaning whatsoever. The game already chose for me. The other thing is when the morally good choices always yield the best results and are the most profitable, yeah right give me a break. Or better yet give us a good moral dilemma for once.
Don't forget about being able to make mistakes, I too usually play pretty good characters but they often make bad decisions, in BG3 this has bitten my Main in the behind multiple times to point where the rest of the group probably think hes cursed. Stuff like this is hilarious and I miss it in games.

I wouldn't call Fortnite "soft". It's target demographic is young teens, it's not supposed to be super violent, edgy, sexual, etc. I agree with everything else though
New games are so safe, so incredibly bland because they wish to be inoffensive to the point that it won't be remembered. People might play it for a few months. Maybe a year, but then it's forgotten. Executives are so interested in not offending anyone that they forget that a story can be told with elements that are technically Offensive but not meant to actually offend anyone. One of the best examples is Frieza from DBZ. They're incredibly racist and an incredible villain. I know they ain't a video game character but anime, movies, TV shows are all also suffering from this garbage.
I’d been dead set on working in the video game industry by starting with an art degree. That dream had been years in the making. Then the more time I spent surveying the art community, the more I realized that they were some of the last people I wanted to associate with. So many of them shared the same hypersensitivity and “social deviance”. You truly do have to walk on eggshells to make it in the art department, and I’ll have nothing more to do with it until media starts to show some life again.
You're saying that like hasn't been the case since the start of video games. That was 2008. so no that isn't the main reason

What I find really annoying is that, the more advanced gaming graphics & effects get, the more sanitized & bland they also get. What a waste in utilizing such advancing technology. A game like Stellar Blade should not even be controversial but celebrated in a fun, edgy, beautiful and sexy manner. Sexy and beautiful characters like that of Stellar Blade need to exist in the gaming industry most especially with the advanced gaming technology that is available now. It adds actual diversity of flavor and variety to the gaming industry. Why deny that pleasure for those who want such games?
Its always funny how it goes, "Mah sexy characters in mah games? Why dont you watch porn?". Yet these same artschool kids can watch someones puke on a wall or call a video of an artstudent playing "crazy" as art, well why dont you just go watch someones puke in an alley by a club or watch real psychos? Idiots.
I heard stellar blade is mid, but idk, I haven’t played it & I don’t care. I like my women poetic & my sex appeal to not be purely sex appeal but have character first & foremost. Y’a know, like Beyoneta, if I were to site a well known video game based example.
Steller blade got censored though and it's a generic style for Asia, those games just don't come to the west. The game would also die if the girls looked differently.
I also believe that a lot of writers come from urban population centres, they don't understand that being progressive is no longer the counter culture. Dark edgy humour is very much alive and kicking and seeping it's way back into the general public, not to mention anyone outside of these areas knows they're all bat shit insane. All we do is make fun of city people coming in work. Things will get worse before they get better, these people are becoming so much easier to make fun of everyday and are quickly losing their grip on the narrative due to the average person being absolutely sickened with how things have went, this is just how society swings. We'll have a resurgence of good media that's more about being entertaining rather than being 'inclusive' soon enough.
We can only hope but with all these authoritarian vaguely defined hate crime laws that are coming out everywhere, things are set to get alot worse before they get better. Making anything close to edgy will be illegal and deemed 'too offensive'. I mean ffs memes are literally getting people arrested these days it's insanity.
You do realize "city people" also like edgy humor right? The attempt to divide urban and rural populations is mostly a political move to keep people from working together. The reason video games aren't very edgy (nor are they very woke, just performative) is because billion dollar corporations won't do anything that isn't optimized to have the broadcast possible appeal
@@gwenmcgarry528 No, city people generally are much more liberal than rural people. There are heat maps that show voting statistics, in Ireland for example there was a recent referendum and it was only the capital that were voting left wing, the rest of the country was overwhelmingly 'conservative' (normal). City people massively over represent their countries due to population density, they skew the perception of entire countries just by how different their belief systems are. There's a huge divide in Canada which is perceived as hippy hellhole but the rural areas are actually very normal and despise the city people for their self destructive beliefs. Some cities in the west are literal socialist hellholes that drag the state wide perceptions, hence 'commiefornia' despite the fact California is actually quite split it's just dragged down by the residents of Los Angeles.
@limpa756 you do realize that liberal people also like edgy jones... right? I've met conservatives that hate edgy jokes because they're "improper and disrespectful" liberals that think they're "disrespectful" and leftists who think they're "offensive and insensitive". There are people all sides of the aisle that don't or do like those jokes. Sure people in urban areas are more likely to be left wing, but that's more matter of education and economic status (as left wing policies are better for the working class instead of the elites). Of course the most "left wing" most of those places ever get is liberal policies, which are ineffective or harmful. Because the aforementioned elites don't like disruptions to the status quo. Hence why places like LA are such hellholes, or why Trudeau is causing issues in Canada (he's a neoliberal shill who's unable to be anything more than a centrist tool) City people don't "overrepresent" a country, they ARE most of the country, and are the average person/baseline for a culture (for better and worse lol) but I can tell you there's plenty of left wing country folk, plenty of right wing city boys, and we're all human. Better to focus on the real issues rather than who the mainstream media tells you to be mad at
The problem is the people who make videogames are not the same people of twenty years ago and many of the people of twenty years ago arent the same people anymore. Adam sezzler 20 years ago was a fun games journalist who enjoyed Xplay and his memories. The industry he is in now is surrounded by the same clique of people with California and Acela corridor politics. Many of these people have gone crazy partially due to the fact they're competing for less money and what money they're getting they'll get more of if they basically hire outside investment firms like sweet baby inc and others to change it. Videogames aren't about being edgy or fun anymore they have to sadly push a narrative for the future so the youth can continue the revolution. In many ways the gaming industry represents people who all call themselves crypto commies/socialists if not liberals. I don't see it getting better anytime soon as we enter in a more hysterical political period.
The issue is that there's no art in it anymore, games have to be sanitized for board members and investors, this is why so many indie games are still good while the big companies have fallen off and ruin everything they touch
Mainstream games aren't pushing any sort of socialist narrative lol, they're doing the opposite, they always support the status quo because that's what shareholders want

Dude, I finally got my hands into a better computer that can run emulators as smoothly as possible. I have no need for modern games, I am playing all the games I wanted to play but couldn't at the time because I didn't own a specific system like the OG Xbox or the Gamecube.
But that's also to a strong degree due to attention span rather than anything really. At least in most cases, dunno about you. It's easier to click on stuff, to get that instant gratification, while playing a game takes commitment and with social media and this fast pace media consumption hell that we've slowly fallen into in the past one and a half decades makes it so that you're like bored after 2 or 3 hours in a game. Much easier to watch clips of it or the cool scenes. It often reflects on one's capability to just enjoy things actively and patiently. Similar reason as why so many people can't sit down and just read a book anymore. Or even a movie without being on the phone meanwhile. It's dystopian if you think about it. It feels ironic because it's literally media for entertainment but entertainment can be meaningful, and is very much meaningful to your quality of life, and even life perspective, if you enjoy it actively and not passively as white noise while listening to some Spotify playlist, playing a game and scrolling your phone at the same time. It's easy to succumb to overstimulation. This way it's easy to pass the time. You won't feel bored, the days just will vanish, and vanish. Doing nothing makes weeks go by in a blink. If you do a lot, and actively so, even if it is something mundane such as reading a book or listening to an album, takes start to feel longer, because they are filled with more meaningful minutes spent, and, in an abstract way, you live longer and certainly more fulfilled. That's not to say that passive entertainment and media consumption is inherently a bad thing. It's just that balance is key, and corporations do not care for that, because balance doesn't bring revenues. So you gotta look out for yourself. Of course, maybe you also just don't enjoy games as much anymore. I'll say that I personally just frequently go back and play 2000s titles, or watch old films from the 1960s, etc. It's a nice change of pace, and not that hard if you stop this feeling of "not being up to date". Because, at the end of the day, who cares. Just do what you enjoy.
@njux1871 I agree. But if the game is good enough, I play it. I avoid videos on it and have a lot of fun with it. I doubt I will ever get the same feeling as I did as a kid. Become addicted. Just infatuated with it. Elden Ring was close. And with the movies... I don't pick up my phone once watching sisu, or EEAAO. But most movies I watch I do pick up my phone. Quality still grabs me. It just doesn't shake me after like it used to.
Ye yesterday I was playing New Vegas during the day in my 360, and then later in the night I was playing original diablo 1-2 on my PC. Especially thanks to my younger brother giving me his physical copies of D2.
In hindsight, I think it's ridiculously petty and funny that 9 ethnically-diverse mercenaries are being purposely offensive and killing each other over gravel. The gravel that their employers are yapping about. TF2's lore is just hilarious with how purposely stupid the iconic mercs are, all over damn gravel.
@@AztecUnshaven Indeed. New Vegas gave you the ability to do whatever you want and I love games like that. I don't take issue with gay characters in games at all. I think my issue here was them killing off 6 beloved characters in order to replace them with gay characters.
@@andyd3447 Facts. If we want freedom in games they need the ability to have gay characters. My issue was not with gay characters but with replacing characters
This was something that really stood out about Guilty Gear Strive. Guilty Gear is a series that used to be mostly known for it's heavy metal stylings with a distinct edge to it. It was both harsh and silly in that metal kind of way. Everything from the character designs to the UI and music bleed metal energy. Now contrast that with Strive and everything is made more generic and marketable. Characters are softer designed or covers up more, the UI looks like it came from a mobile game (seriously, people though it was an Aprils fools first time they saw it) and even the music is more in the rock and pop direction than metal. Even things such as strangeness or religious imagery and the like was sanded away as if the game was afraid to offend someone. And let's not even get into how it handled and retconned some characters. And you showed the Persona 3 remake, but even it was hit by this kind of stuff, be it in smaller ways. Though most of it seems to be due to incompetence from the director, when you compare it with the original, you will notice that it is quite a bit softer in many respects even if it is in broad strokes the same game. And one sad thing is that there are games where you can be inclusive and stuff and still have that edge or have pretty characters. Pathfinder Wrath of the Righteous comes to mind. Some of the shit you can get up to in that game is something else. I guess that is a strength of having a competent writer on the team as well as solid direction. As for your theory, I feel like you are missing a key detail. Progressivism alone does not explain it given that many countries in Europe lean far more progressive than anything in the states. Rather, to my eyes, what appears to be happening is rooted far more in American culture. You see, America is somewhat unique in just how individualistic its culture is. And here comes the issue for you see, progressive thought has its roots in collectivism. Europe and Japan are much closer to collectivist ideals and are therefore able to much more smoothly work with progressivism. America meanwhile tries to apply this "My way or the highway" mentality to it all, to be individualistic and collectivist at the same time, to apply two diametrically opposed ideologies. To go from "accept everyone to have them contribute to society" to "society has to accept ME". It is a square peg, round hole kind of situation.
i remember being a kid waiting to turn 18 to play mature titles with deep and intriguing stories, well i grew up and realized all the games i wasnt allowed to buy where the good ones and they arent coming back.
About the Eastern european games.... Have you ever played Disco elysium? You can be The Icebreaker, the disaster fascist, you can rebuild communism using a corrupt leader of a nearby pier and so on. And the funniest bit is that the game doesn't kill you or stop you from being rude to absolutely everything and everyone: the game overs in this game aren't tied to a specific playstyle or path. You can get a game over for a few diverse reason: turning on the lights in your room, shooting a kid, sleeping in the trash, commiting suicide, sitting in an uncomfortable chair, trying to jump off a building, attempting to beat up a 2,50 meter tall black racist, remembering your ex-something and by being called names by a 12 year old speed addict. (Cuno doesn't fkin care!)
STALKER series is the only game that I've experienced from Eastern Europe that's truly engrossing and captivating. Metro was okay... But STALKER just scratches the right spots. Modded of course.
6:14 Not you calling Saints Row as made by Gen Z. That game is the epitome of millennial Buzzfeed writing. Gen Z weren't even working at that point of time lol. Honestly I would blame game companies catering towards a much younger demographic. Sims, for example, used to have edge, but Sims 4 is a literal kid's playground (though they tried to "listen" to the community after they were criticized heavily for mid gameplay).
I wouldn’t really blame millennials because I’m 34 I’m a millennial and I grew up in that area of offensive games. I play those PC titles and those PlayStation one and Xbox original back in the day so it has nothing to do with generation it has to do with side on if you’re some far left, leaning nutcase, who Prioritize his sexuality over anything else chances are you going to be overly sensitive because you probably were made fun of and now you see this has an opportunity to get revenge on the world and those are the types of people that do not belong in game development, and those types of people exist in any generation.
@@danteshollowedgrounds Dude it's a life sim game and it makes sense to have customizable gender too, and you even got occults and other species in there. @@agentb1ack01 I see your point but I don't think they're plotting revenge. I don't think some representation hurt anyone, but let's be real, these changes in *gameplay* are because they want to reach a wider audience (aka impressionable kids). Not to mention, game companies feed on whales through aggressive microtransactions. They also need to please their investors so any edginess is a no no (basically the Disney-fication in gaming). Tbh I don't think GTA VI will be too safe, but hopefully they retain their dark humor and edginess even if some of their creative people left years ago.
Its rlly funny when people say minecraft is a kids game as I walk through my city of villager slaves in 1x2 compartments who are forced to breed and have their babies stolen from them at birth
Minecraft was a super liberal (in the old sense of allowing you to do things) game even for its time You can kill, enslave, destroy anything in-game, but even outside gameplay: all the texturepacks, skins, mods are free, anyone can make servers and any IP can be connected to. Games did that in the 90s but sadly not anymore. The freedom wouldnt let them milk DLCs enough
That's why I always play OG games from 2000-2010's, like GTA San Andreas or Need For Speed. I don't care what others feel from them as offensive, I just play my game and enjoy from it. Classic known games (GTA, RDR, CoD, old NFS series, Far Cry etc.) are better than some modern trash. Most of you maybe agree with me or not, but this is the fact. Modern games become boring.
Bro. I have just yet to say that I'm really glad you did this video I am 34 years old and I'm tired of playing console games. Tired of getting the welkness shove down my throat every time I turn around. I just want to play a game, enjoy a good story. So I've decided to boycott the new games. I've stopped watching new movies new TV. Because it all sucks, it's all stupid. And the best way is for us not to even pay attention to it Just ignore it. Exactly, you're supposed to know that its a fictional piece, you're hurting fictional characters. You can do whatever you want without any consequences just like your imagination.
I also hate it when fans forces the sexuality of a character in games which are shown to be straight. An example would be Joker on P5. It was never implied that he was gay or bisexual and yet "persona fans" keep shipping him and Akechi (which is a literal psycho killer) together 🤦♂️
All games I play nowadays are from decades ago or games with literal no plot at all. The new takes of the industry made me totally lost interest in new games. Not to mention, the better the graphics get, the worst, simple and more boring the games become. They have lost gaming soul in exchange to please people that doesn't even buy the games but they complain on Twitter aboout a product they will never touch.
There's a reason the only way we'll ever get a proper Manhunt or Condemned type of game is through the indie gaming scene. Same thing with how Ready or Not is a spiritual sequel to SWAT 4. What used to be just cool, somewhat dark/edgy concepts... are all now considered by the mainstream corpos/consoomers as offensive material that should be outright banned unless it agrees with their sociopolotical ideologies. It's why something like The Last of Us games can get away with so much violence and depravity. Also, I just plainly miss when things like vampires were badass edgelords in media (Blade, Underworld, etc.). Now they always have to be so colorful and gae (Redfall).
@@gwenmcgarry528 Seriously, I don't even hate gay people. I hate all the fake bullshit that gets spread everywhere. I'll accept something that's truly gay.
It's funny how the SAME people who say "everything is political" are also the ones to get butthurt when you say that "X demographic was only included for political reasons". That's why you see all this gay shit everywhere.
But see the politics were different, there was actual ideological diversity. Games used to be able to cover any topic in any genre, if you wanted a commie game you had one, if you wanted an objectivist game, you had one. Nowadays the politics are this corporate liberal viewpoint which doesn't leave any room for other views.
I don’t think that these developers realize that the average person in the modern times we live in still has an edgy sense of humor and wants to see that portrayed in art, why do you think that games like GTA, Mortal Kombat (which has played it safer as of late) and Postal are so popular? It’s because people love the offensive nature of those games because believe it or not most people are not prudes.
@NinjaskKing probably, but when has a corporation ever been good at giving up control or accepting risk? Especially over a long period of time like what it takes to make a game
@@gwenmcgarry528 what’s the risk? Look at how well Stellar Blade sold. Publishers ruin everything these days out of fear of social media ridicule, Saints Row reboot is a prime example of what publishers actually think will sell… let it sink in.
@NinjaskKing exactly, stellar blade is a perfect example of how irrelevant social media complaints are. You're proving my point, publishers are more concerned with trying to get the broadest appeal or making shareholders happy. Thus they don't let developers have actual creative freedom
I'm afraid that Eastern European and Japanese developers have also gotten soft. CDPR changed things in CP77 because Twitter complained that it wasnt ''inclusive'' enough. Female character designs were toned down in Resident Evil remakes. Rockstar are overrated too as far edginess goes, they announced in 2022 that they would no longer employ satire that offends ''marginalized'' people.
Too many factors to mention, but popularity and people at the top that only think profit who don't care about video games are a couple of them. Most AAA games these days are just bland and boring, no personality and no common sense. We can talk all day about the amount of games promoting Diversity and being inclusive, HECK YES the same people that EXCLUDE the common people and show that they aren't any better when things get heated. I think social media being on lock down for a year could've improved society a bit.
I am so glad, as a 28 year old late millenial, that someone finally brought up the rising popularity of mobile gaming as a large cause for the decline of what this video is about. The industry has in fact attracted people who feel nothing but apathy for this one beloved niche medium, and it's very much telling that it's a golden mine oportunity for folks who haven't even picked up a gaming controller, to either milk their customer base dry, to pander to those who don't like videogames for what they are, or to attract the lowest common denominator as it's trendy at the moment by just looking at the plethora of flavour of the month releases that constantly come and go. We were humiliated as teenager for liking something that at least did things in a unique way at the time, but now that gaming has become more socially acceptable, it came with the asking price of almost everything looking homogenous, so much that as of recent, even Eastern studios like SEGA, Atlus, Capcom and even shift up began catering to the pressuring forces, and also embracing a similar level of censorship by covering up a female character's body, altering offensive scenes and further dialing down some of the dialogue while also taking away their charm and personality of these games This might be mean spirited from me, but moral of the story is, this is why I believe gatekeeping needs to be enforced, period.
@@botezsimp5808 it's rather simple, question their knowledge about the aforementioned topic, and if they fail to answer it objectively, just single them out completly. A lot of entertainment to me these days, is filled with so called "tourists", which have slowly normalizing what was once abnormal with gaming specially. I'm not even against the idea of representation on paper, but if it does a poor job at engaging an audience via the combination of narrative and direct input, then they might as well abstain from it and perhaps think of something else.
90s and 00s were all about xtreme stuff. The much malligned "Boomers" and also some Gen X designed those games and milennials consumed them. Now milennials and gen Z are coders and game designers, and we are too PC and weak to put some attitude back into video games. But eventually it will make a comeback.
It makes me wonder, in the 90's and 2000's we were edgy irreverent edgelord centrists and moderates, in the 2010s and 2020s we are puritanical squeaky clean leftists (which is funny because that's how the left always used to make fun of the right). So in 20 years when we finally in the first time in a century, go back to the right, I wonder how our video games will look. That will be a sight to see, the first ever era of right wing video games....will we even play games at all?
Bro have you never interacted with millenials or gen z? The issue is that corporate board members block anything interesting for the sake of shareholder value
@@MALICEM12that doesn't quite track, those that create art and media are often more left leaning, the issue in the past decade is that games are now being made by corporations and marketing teams instead of actual people, they're concerned with shareholder value not making a good game. Technical advancements have allowed 'artist' types to become the focus of game creation, previously they were made by engineers, the art side of things was a minor issue. Engineers are based, artists are not.
I think it means that the game lets you, not what the game is. New Vegas lets you kill every human npc in the game and cannibalize their corpses, which i'd say is pretty edgy.
The term edgy has been heavily divorced what it used to mean like Postal 2 isn’t edgy because it’s satirical but Postal 1 is however nowadays edgy is blanket term that is tossed over both
@@jdools4744 you know what's edger than both them? That black and white postal knockoff. I get what you're saying, but maybe that game still fits the bill lmao
It’s because of suits and shareholders. When Xbox makes their logo a rainbow again for June, you shouldn’t hate on gay people, you should hate on a business doing what a business always does, increasing target audiences and making money go up. This also applies to the garbage wave of live service games, there’s a trend that everyone starts copying and you get shit games. They’re just bad games.
Im too young to have played this golden age of gaming back when it was all new, but what we have today has honestly pushed me to explore those "retro" games (they're not really that old).
I had the most fun playing cyberpunk just because of the over the top maturity and edginess I enjoyed not only the gameplay, not only the stories this game tells, the questions this game asks, but also the dark reality of an average life in Night City it's a dystopian utopia and that depression all around you when you play it created an unforgettable feeling that you can't notice, but it's always there, following you
I'll defend Fortnite here for a moment, before they started adding all the cars, instruments and lego shit, Fortnite's monetization is actually the best, which is why everyone tries to copy it but Fortnite skins actually give you your money's worth, either they have a bunch of customization options or they come with other stuff like backpacks or pickaxes, or they have cheap bundles that come with v- bucks and their battle pass design is also still the best because they always include enough in game currency to buy the next pass for free, actually more than that. Plus Fortnite isn't just BR, there's this little mode called "Save the World" and it's actually very well written, it's not super edgy or anything but they have a joke about toxic masculinity and it actually works really well.
Don't forget Fortnite battle royale is FREE. Employing Season Passes on paid games is wack. I wouldn't mind Fallout 1st, for example, if Fallout 76 were free. Just like I don't mind paying for SWTOR because the base game is F2P and already fun.
Even better, you could get the battlepass for FREE if you ground out 300 v-bucks each for 3 seasons, giving you the battlepass for the next season once you reach another 100 v-bucks and starting the cycle you mentioned above.

There are plenty of other reasons too, but politics, agendas, and forcing ideologies in games became more prevalent because gaming became more mainstream & popular. To get back to the knife analogy, you won't be issued a box cutter as a soldier. The same way , you won't see Amazon workers opening boxes with bayonets.

Once a very masculine man named Armstrong told me " America is diseased, rotten to the core." Now I understand what was he saying.

Hence why places like LA are such hellholes, or why Trudeau is causing issues in Canada (he's a neoliberal shill who's unable to be anything more than a centrist tool)
City people don't "overrepresent" a country, they ARE most of the country, and are the average person/baseline for a culture (for better and worse lol) but I can tell you there's plenty of left wing country folk, plenty of right wing city boys, and we're all human.

Good shit brother. What are you playing right now?
By the way, you also mentioned a game about the police and I noticed an interesting thing: earlier in games about the police, such things as police brutality were not perceived too aggressively as they are now. In the Ready or Not (2024), a small scratch to a suspect usually ends with dozens of fines being imposed on you due to “police brutality”. But in SWAT 4 (2004) you could freely use lethal weapons only so as not to kill or critically wound the suspect. And you can also beat them
There's also japanese games and more niche, usually japanese, games that still come out that aren't hindered by the bullshit. I do play a lot of older games myself though.

We were humiliated as teenager for liking something that at least did things in a unique way at the time, but now that gaming has become more socially acceptable, it came with the asking price of almost everything looking homogenous, so much that as of recent, even Eastern studios like SEGA, Atlus, Capcom and even shift up began catering to the pressuring forces, and also embracing a similar level of censorship by covering up a female character's body, altering offensive scenes and further dialing down some of the dialogue while also taking away their charm and personality of these games

@@andypantsgaming Trust me I am Gen Z too and I liked games when they were edgier, serious etc.
I know, it's almost like this whole "generation" thing is just a label.
@@snitchracer6952 Goes both ways. I hear whining about me being a millenial for shit that isnt true as well
@@andypantsgaming That's my point though. I think grouping people into these stupid "teams" is causing people to hate entire age groups for no real reason, other then the fact they are a "gen z" or whatever crap
You may not want to get political, but that's one of the biggest reasons why games have gotten soft and lame. There are plenty of other reasons too, but politics, agendas, and forcing ideologies in games became more prevalent because gaming became more mainstream & popular. Our mistake was not gatekeeping hard enough.
You forgot to mention catering to people who only care about a game if it aligns with their ideology instead of listening to what the real gamers want.
Games have always been political. He opens talking about GTA, one of the most political games
@@Gonalotuber they were always political, but only recently became politically correct™
@@sam1_2_1 How has GTA become politically correct? New Vegas is a different story, it was made by Obsidian not Bethesda. There are still cool edgy single player games out there, not in the AAA industry but more so in the indie. Actually I would argue that AA and indie games are the ones still trying to make good quality single player games for the most part
@@Gonalotuber I didn't mean GTA or New Vegas. I meant recent AAA games in general. They're implementing certain ideologies to please a certain group of people.
We want games not gaymes
LOL I thought the SOFT you meant were the rough edgy polygon visual turning to more smoother polygon visuals XD
its all about the experience. when making a war game make it horrifying, bloody and evil. when making a game about street gangs then give me what's it like to be in a street gang.
games focus too much on how they want games to be instead of how they should be and end up losing what it could've becomes with what they want it to become.
Fact
Imagine if Mafia 2 was released today. It would make some twitter folk mad but it would sell like water.
Not every game needs to be fucking duke nukem. I didn't grow up playing "masculine games" about war. I was never into first person shooter games like cod, I played league, minecraft, strategy games, skyrim, and various indie games. Just because a game isn't an over the top masculine shooter doesn't mean it's woke.
Andypants would like to disagree with you (totally good take btw)
