It would have been the PS Vita in every way I can think of. The problem was that Sony gave up on it prematurely which is the only thing that irked me about the Vita's legacy. If only they would make a successor to the PSP but actually give it a proper life cycle that is supported all throughout. Honestly, PS Vita is probably one of my favorite handhelds of all time minus DS/3DS just due to the sheer amount of things it can do OUTSIDE of just playing games. It's just a massive shame how it was treated by Sony.
Just wanted to say thanks for giving people credit where credit is due! Tom at Moore's Law and Colin M are somehow hated enough that nobody wants to cite them when they break a story and deserve the credit.
Because they often have positive Sony and playstation news and negative Microsoft news and they are often right about all console news especially in the last few years and that upsets certain crowds 😅
They were forced to. No developer beside Sony supported the Vita after the first month, it was way to expensive and had not a high adoption rate, so 3rd party did the same they did with Wii U. It was abandoned by industry and consumers. So yeah you could say Sony fucked up...but supporting it further would have just mean to burn money... (they did it for a while) and stuff like that can break the neck of a company. It's sad PS Vita wasn't more successful, since it was a really awesome device. But so was the Dreamcast too ;)
@Jenaxu sony was making alot more money on home consoles than portables, and Nintendo they were making more on portables than home consoles and now they have the switch.
Even the 3ds has disappointing sales during that time. Heldhelds were in a slump. And it wasn't just the Switch's success that made Sony start exploring handhelds again. Surely, the success of Steam Deck (which spawned a bunch of copycats) got Sony's notice.
They need to do this, no one makes handhelds as well as Sony does. I was just playing on my Vita earlier today and i am always impressed by how modern it still feels.
It's a worthless/meaningless rumor since PlayStation's R&D is always working on stuff that often times leads to nothing, or becomes a part of something else decades later, etc.
If they are smart they'd have it so you connect to a console once every few days to confirm your physical game. Enough so you can't cheat it but enough to make it reasonable to play for a few days.
@DACatface that wouldn't be good enough because then you are tethered to having your ps5 always online. If they have a chance of it succeeding it needs to be able to be used as an actual handheld.
I just hope Sony won't use some proprietary storage option like they did for the Vita, which didn't turn out well for that handheld. I feel like an SD card like the ones the Switch uses or the little M.2 drives that various companies made for the ROG Ally and Steam Deck would be the best ideas.
I honestly think the extremely overpriced proprietary memory almost singlehandedly killed the Vita. That was a pretty universal complaint. I loved the Vita and I think it's a device that appealed to a lot of people. If it had a widely used storage method that could be bought at reasonable prices, I honestly think it would've sold much better and there would've been a lot more games made for it. People tend to mention that it had good indie support for a long time and that's true, but realistically that's never going to keep a device relevant enough for a mainstream audience. If they make the right decisions, this could be an amazing return to the handheld market. Unfortunately they've fumbled so many devices and accessories that I don't really have much faith.
@@servare2599 Every home system since PS2 had regular computer parts storage upgrades though. So that says nothing. Portable systems were treated different for some reason-s.
I like how the cloud stream is working on my portal. When I was playing I had no issues or lag at all. I was thinking maybe Sony should release an Oled, 4k, 120hz screen for the portal. To play actual disk games or download them, that sounds like a battery barrier. I would prefer the stream for this kind of portable device.
I expect it to be digital-only, have the same power as the PS5 and launch in 3-4 years. It will be able to play the exact same games as the PS5 at base PS5 graphics settings. Basically, with generational leaps becoming smaller and smaller, I expect the next cross-gen period to last a solid 4-5 years. So if they release this either right before the PS6 or practically at the same time, you're still gonna get a solid 4-5 years of use out of this handheld. It should also support the ability to cloud stream PS6 games, to get at least some form of future compatibility with the PS6.
Then it’s basically DOA because Nintendo will still support physical copies on their next device, more market presence, better for collectors and great for preservation. PlayStation has already been eradicated from Japanese stores by Nintendo’s shear physical presence.
@@arunabhmahanta Unfortunately physical is not an option for a handheld which is supposed to play PS5 games. The only logical solution would be blu-ray discs so that people can play their physical games on it. But a handheld with a blu-ray disc drive would not work. Cartridge-based physical games for this handheld would also not work, because game sizes are waaay too big for them and people who bought their PS5 games physically prior to this would still have to buy their games again anyways. Might as well be digital-only at that point. Yes, Japan loves physical. But it's been clear for quite some time that Sony is no longer after the Japanese market. This is why it wouldn't surprise me if the PS6 is also digital-only (Xbox Next is 100% going to be digital-only).
@@asimb0mb I'm not gonna speak for everyone, but I personally wouldn't buy a digital-only console when PC and Steam Deck exists. Specially when exclusives on both PlayStation and Xbox will eventually release on PC anyway. As someone who bought PS2, PSP, PS3, PS Vita, PS4 and PS5 Pro, this is just not what I want as a hardcore customer.
Cool, Sony studios are barely able to produce games for their desktop console, adding yet another platform with different hardware will definitely help, right?
The Xperia Play form factor deserved a second chance; in 2017-2019 I was actually expecting Sony to compete with the Nintendo Switch with a new handheld/mobile hybrid.
If anything it’s weird that it didn’t happen already. A portable PS4 would have been a great thing! So if it’s a PS5 now it will take a few years for the technology to allow it in a way that doesn’t compromise the experience.
A other huge problem that this handheld will face is that Sony still plans to make the PS6. One reason Nintendo was able to make so many great games for their handhelds without their home consoles getting fewer games was that they created smaller separate teams for handheld games and often asked other smaller game companies to make games for them. Sony didn't do that for their handhelds, and I don't think they're going to do that for this new handheld, especially with how long games take to get made these days, and PS6 is going to make games take even longer to get made. the problem with the PS5 that Sony has no games will probably become twice as bad with the PS6 and the new handheld
Playing PS5 natively with PS6 cloud streaming seems to be the best route. It'll have abundant library (yes, more will come this later half cycle) without missing out new generation games.
What??? Nintendo used to have serious droughts in releases when they had separate home and handheld development teams. I remember all the complaints about it pre-Switch. In fact, combining those teams was surely one of the main reasons the Switch is a hybrid console. They are now able to get games out faster and more consistently since they only have one console.
@fattiger6957 There will always be droughts with any console, and Nintendo indeed had a lot of droughts in the Wii U and 3DS era, but that's understandable because it's the Wii U era we're talking about, but Nintendo didn't have as close as many droughts as the PSP and the PS Vita and I know it's been said a million times but the PS5, It looks like history is going to repeat itself with the next Sony handheld and the PS6
I can't help but think it's too little, too late. Nintendo has long cornered the portable market by the simple fact of being the only player still in that market. Almost 150 million Switch units have been sold in almost 8 years, while the closest equivalent in the Steam Deck hasn't even crossed the 10 million metric in almost 3 years. Nintendo's next console is releasing next year so they're also going to have a huge head start on the portable market again, a new player in the space would likely sell around the same as a Steam Deck at best. I would certainly buy one as I much prefer the accessibility of handheld gaming, but I also bought a Vita in it's launch year so I'm not exactly who Sony needs to target.
If I wanted something digital, I would just buy a steam deck or Rog Ally X. Playstation is going to need to focus on creativity and optimization for this handheld. The only way to compete with Nintendo is to make a handheld that can play physical cartridges with an option to play your digital games as well. Don't leave money on the table. There will be compromises made, but the Switch's success proves it works. If they released an exclusive Astro Bot game or a new mascot for the handheld at launch, I can definitely see it taking off. They are going to have to do something special. Otherwise, it's DOA just like the XBOX handheld.
Hard to believe a PS5 portable is feasible given the power consumption and heat generated from the high clock. Unless Sony cuts resolution to 720p, remove ray-tracing and really simplify the architecture, it would run for a couple of minutes only.
It would have to be a device that is powerful enough to be similar to a base PS4 in order to tap into that massive games library. If they add "PS5 Support", it will likely be some kind of game streaming software for that.
I Highly doubt this, this is just bullshit/and or click bait, Cus atm. It’s currently unfeasible to use desktop (desktop) GDDR6 in mobile device. Why you ask? Simple. Ps5 is using DESKTOP GDDR6 Vram and it’s using a Desktop custom Zen 2 cpu / and RDNA2 SoC/APU that also get very hot, thus why Sony used liquid metal too help transfer the heat from SoC to heatsink. Cpu also req a lot power. The Vram 1) gets very warm 2) also require a lot of power. Your battery life is going be very bad. Nobody (as of 2024) has made mobile “handheld” pc device using desktop GDDR6 Vram. To get to 10+ Tflops performance in mobile hand held atm just isn’t feasible. Even todays gaming laptops with either Nvidia gpu or AMD gpu are vastly cut down version compared to their desktop version. So this Rumours is just bullshit atm. Not unless AMD is using newer LPDDR7 that very impressive? Or AMD is switching to HBMx version? Which is also very power hungry and runs hot. Ps4 handheld mobile device. Yes it’s possible now. Ps5 handheld mobile device. NO, not currently. Not unless Sony is vastly cutting games down to run much lower resolutions, so many ps5 games would req patches to run on weaker hardware.
I don’t see this coming out before PS6. I see cross-gen sticking around a looong time. I wouldn’t be shocked if this and PS6 are what they’re planning for next-gen. This would be the affordable option and PS6 would be their premium option. I can see this using a unique SOC that supports PSSR and plays all PS5 and 4 software with support sticking around for this longer than the current base PS5 and replacing base PS5 with the PS5 Pro being phased out by then.
I remember buying my PSVita on launch and like a month or two after it arrived I searched around to see what first party games were coming out in the future and there was like nothing lol. They released it and peaced out immediately. So yeah I understand your sentiment. Sadly I think I'd support them if they released a handheld again anyway since I'm a sucker.
Just use your brain and think for more than 2 seconds. If it is a portable PS5 similar to a switch that doesn't need *dedicated software* and launches in a market that loves handhelds leading to a good amount of sales of course it will get proper support. All the factors that resultes in Sony dropping the Vita are not present anymore
They just need to improve portal, already made it stream without PS5, now just have to make it where you can download, cause discman had skipping issues, so maybe a SD expansion for portal, could snap on bottom of portal with c port
The thing about this is, Sony always does this. They always try and compete with Nintendo And it always seems to go badly. They tried to compete with the Wii by making move controllers that were not very good. The PSP and Vita were great, but poorly implemented because of proprietary memory. Here they go again.
New PlayStation handheld? Possibly. New PS5 handheld? I have some swamp land in FL that you might be interested in. People will believe anything it seems.
Sorry to break it to you guys but Sony is not developing a portable console. Sony plan for the next months /years is to improve their cloud streaming and make it seamless so people start using the PS Portal more and more, and ofc, pay the premium subscription (because this is what gives money not the consoles per se). So expect to see more and more games launch on the cloud and start taking the portable market through the PS portal and a possible portal 2.
I guess the idea is to make it more of a portable and not a streaming one. As a user my biggest concern would be development they already struggle to keep up with console releases.
Let’s gooo hopefully something even if it’s years off at the very least Sony is not ruling out a handheld again just being able to play things again natively is so huge from sony
I dun know if running console version of all games on a portable will be a good strategy. Back when PSP, Vita came out many games use to have dedicated ports for those consoles and that is how it should be instead of making bad ports that don’t work on weaker hardware
Guaranteed PS4 compatibility + Ps5 patches for first party titles and beyond would be awesome. They're probably going to want to focus on battery life, so I could see the power capabilities being somewhere in line with the upcoming Z2 extreme chip.
I don’t trust Sony to another portable PlayStation. They will drop support after 12month, will have a priority memory card, burnt me twice already Sony
Id like to see them start by making the Portal more extensive with just the streaming side. If they can get more games from my library addedto stream from the current Beta selection I would say that is a big step in the right direction
2 things top of mind: cloud and AI What if a Sony handheld could play most games locally (PS4, less intense pS5 games etc) but then offer cloud streaming for the top tier of the gaming juggernauts that would struggle to run natively? And then also PSSR - how AI supplements not just hardware enabled performance for both PS5 Pro and PS6 down the line, but also any potential mobile gaming hardware is going to be a massive factor in the future of the industry
You’re overthinking this. Cross-gen games are not dying this time around. We keep getting more. A successful handheld compatible with PS5 would only encourage it further. If Apple can keep older iPhones around to have a cheaper model to sell, why shouldn’t Sony keep the previous generation console going as a handheld? Makes sense to me.
If they really fucking sold the PS Portal just to test the handheld market I swear to god those mf's are going to at least get another handheld purchase from me because I am a dumb schill.
The thing about the portable PLaystation that runs stuff natively: Rumors about such a Device have been floatin around the Internet for about a year or so... Though it is not known if it will run PS5 natively or not or if PS5 would be possible, but require a patch, that is unclear so far... And also if it releases before PS6 or if its a PS6 companion device...
I think with the tech we have today this is easily possible. Especially considering pc handhelds are doing it. Obviously the games would need to be scaled back via a update or something but this could be a good idea.
If this is a device with on-deck game installations, they need to allow some sort of USB C-Ethernet or the USB connectivity they killed off between the PS3 and PSP+Vita. Downloading any game ranging from 5 to 150 GB via WiFi, even 5 GHz, is something nobody will want to do.
the cpu would not be that hard to do the ryzen z1 is about as capable, but the GPU would be hard, maybe if they can use UDNA(RDNA5) with less compute units memory could be hard too maybe LPDDR6 i don't think it would be easy to make it work but would still have the same issue that most portables have that is battery life of about 2h-3h maybe if they implemented a swappable battery like how cameras work.
Is all about the price. I think what works in Sony's favor is they have their own in-house team of engineers. They are some of the best. Don't be surprise if PSSR can be implemented in this as well, but the true issue is whether you can cut costs down by making the device, and therefore, sell it at a reasonable price. The good news is they can reduce those costs in-house. The bad news is no matter what it might still be pricey. Don't forget that Sony has went away with OLED on their tv's and are using their own in-house mini-LED, and that can help drive costs down when they decide to use a panel for the screen. They still have OLED on some tv's, but the decision is not an accident. If they can implement it the same way in the console that can save them money. But the specs will make the difference. Question is what will the portable offer. Aside from convenience, how will the battery play and will it be worth it; will it be backwards; how big the resolution; and so on. Because I don't think one will mind paying $300-$400 for it. If it can provide a solid, worthy experience. The question is just how far you want to go to sell it. $500? That may be a bit too much, but this is a portable device. The value alone is taking it with you and play anywhere, anytime, and natively.
Isn’t the series S causing issues for developers to make games that push the envelope because they have to get it running on that system to? Seems like we would have the same issue here
Okay, I’ll take a guess - screen and form factor similar to the Portal, play PS4 and 5 games on device, stream PS6 games locally or via PS Plus Premium.
I'm looking forward to it, I only hope they have a clear strategy this time with the device probably being in the same generation as the PS6. That's my only concern, especially seeing how they completely neglected PSVR2 this gen and PS Vita last gen. Also if they somewhat pair the release with the PS6 would that mean an even longer cross-gen period this time for PS5 games?
I disagree with a new Playstation portable needing to be ps4/5 portable. I really miss the days when devs actually developed games for Handhelds that where meant to be played on the go instead of games meant to be played on a 55 inch Tv shrunk down onto a 7 inch Tablet. They just dont suit the platform well and are honestly better enjoyed on its original format. I often leave my steam deck plugged in. It cant compare to simple psp games emulated on my phone on the go.
It's unlikely to happen. Developing a game for PSP or 3DS is very cheap back in the days. The performance of a new handheld could be very strong and thus developing games for it will be much expensive. Game sells are not very well on handheld compares to console. The game sell/hardware sell ratio is much lower. In the end the developer will supprot the platform that has high profit. This is the biggest reason why Vita is abandoned by everyone except the Janpanese galgame developer.
I personally dont see the need for handhelds anymore now that we can play on our phones, if phones like the fold or the chinese 1 that has a triple fold become the norm. Its not like we will have tiny screens.
If they do end up releasing it, it will be similar to the Switch. Sony can run PS6 games at 360p/480p, upsample them to 1080P using PSSR. Then you have an entire library of Sony’s titles running in handheld mode. Plus, any older game like Last of Us 2, easily running in your hands. AI upscaling, as I’ve said since the beginning, will fundamentally change hardware performance and how to utilize it. One of the biggest improvements will be for handheld devices, as we’re about to see with the Switch 2. People thinking Sony is going to release a handheld with “games designed for it” like the PSP, will be disappointed.
They really need to support it better than they did the vita, seems like anything that isnt their primary console they give up on so quickly, vita having proprietary memory cards really didnt help that either even though it really was a good handheld, even better when you mod it but yeah they really need to support it if they do come out with it.
There's no way this handheld could be the same power as a ps5 and still be $400-500, a base Rog Ally is roughly equal to the ps4 and is $500. This future handheld will have it's own library of games like its predecessors.
As soon as the Japan manufacturers gets MS invoice interesting that now PS is looking for a series S spec to add to their next gen dev kit. Interesting times indeed. Bring on the game awards, since the far east forums are already talking about the orders might as well soon the rest of the hand while everyone watches. Oh and those MS stadia WiFi controllers as well
A portable PS6 or even a portable PS5, similar to the Steam Deck, would especially suit the japanese market, where Playstation has lost a lot of market share to Nintendo. I'd prefer a handheld with its own games like the PSP and Vita, but it seems unlikely that Sony would do another one of those.
Just give me a handheld that can somehow let me play my PS1/PS2/PSP/PS3/Vita/PS4 locally, and you got my money. Or even PS3 and up. Call it the PS Legacy. Since Sony wants to sell standalone disc drives for the PS5, sell me one that reads CD-ROM/DVD-ROM/PS3 Blu Ray to hook up to the handheld’s dock and install it straight to the hardware for our enjoyment.
@dapperfan44 I've used my phone for remote play it's not bad I just would like the portal for the form factor. Would free up my tv, and my phone. I can play marvel snap on my phone while playing black myth or something on portal
@ColdStoneRacing yea sucks cause I'm in limbo for switch upgrade. My daughter grew out of her og switch and I rather mod it than buy a new one with switch 2 looming. Gaming pcs coming out left and right eventually I settle on a new device 😆

This would be cool. All it needs to be able to do is play ps5 games at 720p 30 fps imo. Maybe add PSSR to it and let it upscale from 560p or something.
It’s funny before I saw this his rumor on your video I found my vita and was charging it. Coincidence perhaps, or perhaps a sign? I will sit back and watch it all unfold.
Hopefully Xbox’s announcement that they’re working on a handheld as well will further convince PS to go full-steam ahead with this project. I’d love to see them compete in the handheld market
I feel like a PS5 portalable device that's anticipated to come out towards the end of the PS5 cycle only makes sense if it has PS6 compatability or at worst streaming. A full fledge PS5 portable coming out in 2026/2027 i just dont see selling that well that late in the life cycle outside of Japan.
I would buy a PS5 portable even if it is pricy. Considering multiple handhelds out today that can play PC games, it's very possible for PS5 games to be played on a hand held device natively. The PS5 CPU is old now and there are already portable systems with more powerful CPUs available so it's very possible for PlayStation to be able to make a device as well.
With current handheld landscape, would be foolish for Sony not to release a dedicated portable to play atleast ps4 games. Its basically free money for them. Just look at the portal.
Totally different thing the portal starts out as a dedicated handheld like the steam deck they changed it to cloud only. The portal is highly successful now so they decided to make a dedicated handheld now
It is, doesn't matter what you think, sony already said that the portal surpassed expectations, tom handerson who leaked the portal said the same thing, that the portal surpassed expectations and because of that they decided to do this new handheld, but as the article says they could still decide to not release it@@_sparrowhawk
The Portal really seems like a device designed to test the waters. Gauge the interest in portable gaming from Sony fans. It has sold consistently well since it was released. Thus, Sony wants to go further. Makes sense all around.
👏👏👏👏❤️🔥 oh I plan to purchase handhelds from both Sony & Microsoft. I don't plan on purchasing the new Switch because the RG35XXSP I am playing is the nintendo handheld I've always wanted. Multiple consoles & arcade machine emulators in one device 😄 I'm loving life right now.
As for the technical side: This device should have a CPU that is as good or better than the PS5 CPU, at least 16GB RAM, the GPU is not important, that's the thing you can scale! SO 1/3 of the PS5 PRO GPU would be more than sufficient. Especially since this device would either target 720p or 1080p at most. It makes no sense to put a 4K Screen inside, its a waste (well, would cost more to manufacture, more to power it and offer only disadvantages)...
i'm using my Steam deck to play my PSP and PS vita games, i love handhelds, i'm confused why Sony hasn't made a PS4 handheld, they could easily do it. But having owned a PS Vita in the past, the almost impossible to replace battery and memory card really annoyed me, Sony is slow and they don't support things so well. I'm likely never buy another Sony handheld and just use the Steam deck. the games are way be cheaper on Steam than consoles. Having the 2 previous Sony handhelds, i don't think anything they can do now could excite me with how good the deck and other portable PCs are. The best thing about the PSP and Vita was the homebrew but i struggle to see the point when the Steam deck can do everything they could do and more.
If the PS5 is still popular half way into PS6, the way PS4 is now, a new PS5 skew as a dockable handheld at $350 msrp would make a lot of sense. Maybe Sony is realizing that new generation hardware is hitting diminishing returns.
Why? They can’t bring themselves to support development of psvr2 titles, why would a handheld fare better. It always splits development resources unless you adopt the Switch model. That’s why the Switch was so successful.
Switch is successful because of exclusive Nintendo games, and Nintendo games aren't very demanding games either, that's why they can get away with low powered hardware.
not surprising here. The ps handheld is not going to be your PSP, its going to be your portable PS5, Sony does not need any first party studio to make games for it, the handheld can play all ps5 games
It looks like they've made a decision to not support PSVR 2 with first-party games, aside from the one or two titles that are still in development. They're basically leaving it to third-party developers. There probably won't be a PSVR 3. Sony owns more studios now than in the Vita or PSP era and they're looking to acquire more, so it's not that they lack resources to support other platforms. Xbox is now making games for PS5, so I think Sony could divert some of its studio resources towards a portable platform. I think even a new handheld selling 30M units, i.e. double what the Vita sold, would be considered a success.
@@herpderp9394If Digital Foundry reckon a portable Xbox series s is unrealistic in the near future, a portable ps5 that plays ps5 games is sheer fantasy.
If it won’t support physical media, I don’t see any point in buying it. If I’m going to buy a “digital-only” handheld, I would go with a Steam Deck or ROG Ally X… just more bang for my buck. If I want physical media, I would go with Nintendo… that gives me the option to build a nice physical collection. This PlayStation handheld’s success purely depends on whether it is a PSP and PS Vita like device or not. IT HAS TO BE A DEDICATED GAMING PLATFORM, I DON’T CARE ABOUT BUYING/PLAYING DIGITAL-ONLY PS4 GAMES ON A 2028 HANDHELD.
Sony’s digital platform is so much worse than Steam, I’m likely in the same boat. I can wait a year to get $10 off the new GoW game with Sony, or go with Steam as they regularly offer 75% off hundreds of games.

The deja vu is strong with this one
I like how the cloud stream is working on my portal. When I was playing I had no issues or lag at all. I was thinking maybe Sony should release an Oled, 4k, 120hz screen for the portal. To play actual disk games or download them, that sounds like a battery barrier. I would prefer the stream for this kind of portable device.
This should have been how the portal was in the first place man. Now we gotta wait even longer 😭
@@arunabhmahanta Neither do I, but at some point we have to make the difficult decision. Stop buying Playstation once they do go digital-only.

Cool, Sony studios are barely able to produce games for their desktop console, adding yet another platform with different hardware will definitely help, right?
Yep they dont understand why Nintendo is successful.
@@barcster2003 Nintendo is very successful they are always pumping out games and the price point of their consoles is very good!

PS Vita failure still haunts them
A other huge problem that this handheld will face is that Sony still plans to make the PS6.

Stay salty about the ps6 portable that lives rent free in your head lol
Sony burned me with the VITA. I won't trust another handheld untilI see it ggets proper support

@watchmejumpstart24 the worst is the games they did release were so good!

Sony tries something new -> fails miserably. Repeat ad infinitum
Why would you need another handheld when there is ps portal? I don't get it.
I guess the idea is to make it more of a portable and not a streaming one.
As a user my biggest concern would be development they already struggle to keep up with console releases.
The Portal is ultimately just a remote play device, not a true handheld that can natively download games
A huge unintended benefit of Sony/Microsoft getting in on handhelds would be more games removing their rediculous online-only requirements.
I miss handheld gaming and true handheld. I grew up with handheld so it will always be in my heart.
Let’s gooo hopefully something even if it’s years off at the very least Sony is not ruling out a handheld again just being able to play things again natively is so huge from sony
Both Sony and Microsoft will flop if they try to compete with Nintendo in the handheld market.
Sony is full of greed.
My guy that’s every corporation, it’s nothing new. Who knew they had a goal to make you spend money. 😂
I dun know if running console version of all games on a portable will be a good strategy. Back when PSP, Vita came out many games use to have dedicated ports for those consoles and that is how it should be instead of making bad ports that don’t work on weaker hardware
Vita bros we’re so back
Cope is back! I’m gonna be so happy if this actually happens
Guaranteed PS4 compatibility + Ps5 patches for first party titles and beyond would be awesome. They're probably going to want to focus on battery life, so I could see the power capabilities being somewhere in line with the upcoming Z2 extreme chip.
They need to focus on exclusives for the portable system, not downgraded versions of PS5 or PS6 games...
2 things top of mind: cloud and AI
What if a Sony handheld could play most games locally (PS4, less intense pS5 games etc) but then offer cloud streaming for the top tier of the gaming juggernauts that would struggle to run natively?
The thing about the portable PLaystation that runs stuff natively:
Rumors about such a Device have been floatin around the Internet for about a year or so...
Obviously the games would need to be scaled back via a update or something but this could be a good idea.
that would be amazing. ❤
Wooo best time in the morning, mystic upload!
The Portal unlocking cloud streaming of games has negated the need for this.
For 800€+
Don't need more ways to play, but more games to play.
It's done, even Nintendo knows it's a lost cause and a GIGANTIC waste of money and resources.
Nintendo player base: lol
They will have the same issue again.
I’m excited for this bc I mainly play handheld. I don’t have time unfortunately to play on a PC or in front of a TV for hours
Oh and those MS stadia WiFi controllers as well
I mean, if they don't have bluetooth again you can forget about it
The release timing is an odd. I’m just happy they’re doing it. But they’re neglecting old franchises like socom killzone Syphon filter mag and so on.
MLID has good sources and so far has been on point with hardware leaks from Intel, Nvidia,AMD, Nintendo, MS & Sony.
I'm all in. Id pay $700 for a Steam Deck 2 level handheld all day.

Im honestly wayyy more surprised than not how we still dont have a portable PS that plays PS4 games???
I would buy a PS5 portable even if it is pricy. Considering multiple handhelds out today that can play PC games, it's very possible for PS5 games to be played on a hand held device natively. The PS5 CPU is old now and there are already portable systems with more powerful CPUs available so it's very possible for PlayStation to be able to make a device as well.
With current handheld landscape, would be foolish for Sony not to release a dedicated portable to play atleast ps4 games. Its basically free money for them. Just look at the portal.
Just seen a post for this this morning

Make more games with lower budgets and shorter time, definitely sells
It is too late Sony! Steam Deck can run almost all PS5 games and it is already a beast and it's successor will be much better.
Sony and Microsoft tripping over themselves to emulate Nintendo’s success isn’t going to fix their fundamental flaw: lack of games.
Its probably going to be like 2 versions of ps6 like home console version and handheld version if that happens I’m going handheld this time
More competition is always a good thing
I doubt it when they just released a handheld
As for the technical side:
This device should have a CPU that is as good or better than the PS5 CPU, at least 16GB RAM, the GPU is not important, that's the thing you can scale! SO 1/3 of the PS5 PRO GPU would be more than sufficient. Especially since this device would either target 720p or 1080p at most.
It makes no sense to put a 4K Screen inside, its a waste (well, would cost more to manufacture, more to power it and offer only disadvantages)...
I think it would have a an Oled but i guess that’s kinda obvious. They use a little less power too as I understand
i'm using my Steam deck to play my PSP and PS vita games, i love handhelds, i'm confused why Sony hasn't made a PS4 handheld, they could easily do it.
They could also offer PS6 streaming...
They don't have resources to support 2 devices, steam deck model is the only one that makes sense.
Exactly my sentiments too. If Sony want to do a handheld, they need to do a handheld.
Sony’s digital platform is so much worse than Steam, I’m likely in the same boat. I can wait a year to get $10 off the new GoW game with Sony, or go with Steam as they regularly offer 75% off hundreds of games.
So you want a BluRay disc drive on a handheld?
Digital is far better for handhelds, who wants to carry their games around?
