Nice talk, nice beard coming in. Horses are like lots of things in life; you gotta understand them if you ever wanna break them in. Patience and experience are necessary to obtain any kind of real knowledge. The aimless young men of this generation need this kind of man to man talk. Horses or otherwise.

Metaphor is a powerful tool of the wise and he uses it like a sculpture.

I don't even use a bit, so we won't go there, but I love the message. I have used the math/algebra analogy a few times. Often people run into problems when they try to teach a horse algebra when it can't even count yet. Basics make everything better. And yes, training is as much or more about self improvement. 100% agree with your message.

Dwayne, a few things. Been watching for a while on the sidelines. You have inspired me so much it's hard to express, but I would like to make an attempt.
I started working as a ranch hand at an equestrian school just outside of my city about three months ago. I've only ever been around horses twice in my life but have wanted to. I saw the opportunity and pounced on it, mainly because you instilled a level of courage in me that I could make it happen.
Second, your videos and advice and been incredibly useful and thought provoking.
And finally, this video, while it may be simple (just like the basics) is so incredibly profound, I am still having a hard time wrapping my head around it. The amount of things I have struggled with, things that I have been held back by... you have just highlighted the answer I've been looking for since I was a little kid. No joke. I feel like I was looking for the most complex solution to such simple problems; like I should have known the answer this whole time. . . Seriously, thank you, from the bottom of my heart. I hope one day I can look you in the eyes and show you even a fraction of the gratitude you are owed.

    Talking about turning that horse...
I don't know anything about horses, except the iron type. When you want to turn on a motorcycle, you turn your head and eyes to where you want to go. That does two things. 1) It keeps the mind focused on the point of objective. 2) It naturally leads the body (back, shoulders, hips) to perform the neccesary movement required to make that turn.
I can see a symmetry between that and rid8ng a horse; as, as you know, there is a mental and physical connection between horse and rider. It isn't all conscious thought & actions.

That is our common thread, but a lot of us are feeling the need to move on from it and don't know how. There is an unmentioned feeling that I can see amongst us and we (my wife and I) are realizing maybe we need to fine new friends, even at the chance of losing the ones we currently have. Any real life prospective that you might have would/might be helpful for your community. Thanks.

I guess the only real advice I could give in this particular situations is that it’s often better to not just quit something, but to replace it. When something becomes a major part of our life, like alcohol, and we just quit it, we leave a hole where that thing used to be. So by nature, we’re always wanting to fill that hole back up. Nature abhors a vacuum. So if we fill the hole that we have created with something positive when we remove something negative, it’s harder for the negative to find a way back in. To find space.

my brotehr always tells everyone that I "get down to the fundamentals".....i break things down to their simplest pieces, then start working upwards. It's an OLD way of solving problems.
Sometimes we hit a limit adn realize that we can only FIX things to THIS level, and that the larger problem is unsolveable. When we hit that wall, the problem we want to solve CHANGES and becomes "we can't resolve THAT problem, so now the problem becomes "how can we isolate ourselves from THAT problem!"
