    To everyone asking “why, can’t you do all this on the main anvil?”
    The small anvil allows for specialized dressed edges, and is much easier to keep dressed to a mirror finish, so it is useful for clean, crisp precise finish work, and can be more easily modified if a specially dressed (shaped) edge is needed.
    One can think of it as a semi-disposable tool to be modified for special situations, rather than modifying the edges of the main anvil.

    Even after cutting it that still took a few hard hammer strikes... That must've been a pretty damn good weld job.

    So it's a small anvil for your hardy hole. A stake anvil is one that would have a spike at the bottom to be pounded into a stump.

    What's the point? It's nothing that you can't do actually on the anvil?

    If you were going to cut the head of the sledge in half anyway, why go to all the trouble of pounding out the remnants of the handle?

    There's a song in there somewhere... well, the rhythm of the pressing has the makings of a song! Love the look of the molten metal being squashed in that press! 😁

    I would have upset that stake a bit more a so that it would be a snugger fit in the hardy hole..

    I guess i don't understand why this piece is needed cause you can do all that without it. I'm bot a blacksmith tho and don't know much. It has ''mad hatter'' vibes cause it flared out on top. I hope it does everything for you that you hope it will.

    can't you do all the work you do on it on the big anvil too? i just don't see why you need to add a smaller anvil to the one you have...

    • @Vikingwerk
      @Vikingwerk 9 місяців тому +1

      Sometimes you need to work on a piece in such a way that both ends need to hang of the anvil, so having a small insert like this is helpful.
      Also sometimes using a small anvil like this helps keep from cooling the work piece so fast.
