Great info as always! I need to add a bypass oil filter on my 3rd gen since it’s up there in miles. Was going to get an oil sample test done on it, mainly out of curiosity
Rob I always appreciate your advice , if your intersected in what I do , I change my engine oil pretty much the same way . I use luber-finer filters because I use to get them at a International truck shop now I just get them on Amozon . The stock automatic that has 217k on it a 47 rh the original one . I use 10 wt hydraulic oil in it for the last 150 k niles . I also use the 10 wt in my power steering in my truck and tdi jetta . No problems and its just my belief that the 10 wt probably improves fluid coupling in the stock convertor . Many may say bs but I heard that before from a fellow that build expensive transmission for race cars . I going to pull it any way and install g before it gives it up lol . As far as filter for the transmission I been told and I do use the 727 filter as I was told it was a high flow filter . I always use a cork filter and add a heavy magnet to the out side of the pan , I like to install a by pass oil filter if you what do you recommend thanks again Sir

I don't disagree with you but your numbers seem extremely conservative. I change oil every 10K miles whether it needs it or not and the 3 dodge diesels I have owned all went over 400k without oiling issues . In reality a mechanics personal truck/vehicle probably receives the least amount of maintenance ! Lol
power steering flush. raise front off ground turn lock to lock several times after drain fill, drain , repeat. tell us what exactly you are using in your automatic s. hytrans? hygard. you slipped by that little teaser in your presentation without cluing us in...
Oil absolutely has much to do with oil change intervals... Consider some Case equipment, much of which run Cummins engines, say to change at 250 hr intervals, or 500 with their highest quality oil. I once went 750 hrs (divorce, no time for maintenance...) and still had color in the oil. I'm at over 4k hrs on my current machine, 95 horse 4.5l Cummins, brown oil, not black like my Dodge... Aside from soot collection, better oil generates less dirt/metal in the oil. I've seen two Cummins now worn out at 150k because of the wrong oil... It surely is a combination of quality oil, proper viscosity for the purpose, decent filtration, and good flow, meaning don't choke down flow with excessive filtration... Good filtration with wrong oil equals a prematurely work engine... Improperly engineered filtration equals wrecked bearings under high rpm use... Filtration is only 20% of the equation, not a primary part.

Hey Cuterup… do u kno much about 8.3? I’m trying to find info on injection pump differences.. I have a 97 pump 325 horse.. keep hearing that pump can’t make big power like other lower rated one
idk imo most of this is too frequent too much overkill, stuff doesnt cost money and take time, if the extra maintenance adds upto more than the potential repair is it really worth it?
guys asked what i do , this is what i do , have for 15 years stuff running triple the stock power plus for years and years no major failures. cheap insurance in my eyes, have to change oil alot of times for 15k in engine parts or a tow bill out of the mountains with a trailer on
Yeah oil is cheap and that cheap dino oil wears out your bearings at 1/4 the life of that Cummins. To each his own. I'll stick to Amsoil SS and gain that lower friction coefficient and the 2mpg I'm gettin doing so.
Preventative maintenance is key to a reliable truck

They are for sure. If you running a stock ish truck you can go a lot more. I just see it as oil is cheap engines are expensive

the filter that i have used are kleenoil , website is still in the works as of right now
