This is a tiny nitpick but witch girls aren't actually witches, they're guardians of the elements of nature with magical power. Witches are evil in witch as well. The only reason they're called witch is as an acronym of their names because it's a silly cute name for a comic with magical girls and comncets somehow to the story. Hope this clarifies things.
Hello! Thank you for your comments. Yes, of course. Maybe I didn't make this clear enough in the video, but this is why I referred to them as "so-called witches". Because that's something that parents wouldn't have known unless they looked into it, and this is what some of Winx's early marketing was relying on: "Oh, this one is about 'witches' so it must be a bad influence, whereas this one is about fairies so it must be better for my child." I suspect that it is also why Disney was hesitant to invest in the project, and probably why it didn't fight harder for it.
@TalkyTilki oh I see! I personally love the good witch idea of it. I used to love Sabrina the teenage witch animated show as a kid. In the arabic dub of witch they called them "the super girls" to avoid mentioning witches in a good light.
Man the rivalry between w.i.t.c.h and winx club reminds me of the rivalry between pokemon and digimon in which the latter is often called a ripoff of the former even though they aren't ripoffs.
Exactly there simply 2 series developed at the same it’s crazy how many times that happened Pokémon v digimon winx v witch happens all the time sometimes companies follow trends anybody think about that instead of accusing somebody of copying them
IT WAAASS!! As a kid, I loved it much more then Winx despite being a fan of both because the cast felt more real, they were girls with troubles beyond what magic and love brings and it felt good as a 10yo to have media not making becoming a teen seem so shallow and vapid full of glitter and cuteness, Winx was what I inhaled when I needed copium to feel good about real life and hide from it, WITCH was what I watched when I just needed something else to tell me growing up was hard but its ok
The WITCH tv show got bad ratings in the USA. Season 2 producer Greg Weisman confirmed this in an interview on a British podcast. A factor that played into the poor ratings were distribution and programming. Toon Disney was too small a channel for WITCH to grow an audience.
Lol at Disney trying to sue Rainbow because they thought Winx was too aesthetically similar to WITCH. One has the characters in all different bright colors with sparkles and very youthful girly silhouettes. The other has the characters in muted colors that are the same throughout the group, with the differences between outfits coming just from the silhouettes, which are all more mature and graceful-looking. They’re completely different, and can totally coexist and have overlapping fans (like me) who can appreciate them both. Disney always pulls wild stunts like this lol
im so glad this got recommended to me bc as a kid i was a diehard winx fan and i was there for the fandom drama. the arguments i would get into in the winx club forums as an 8 year old are unparalleled
Hellooooo!!! Welcome!!! Ugh same! We were so silly, but it's so fun to look back at now. The amount of times I got into arguments over how Layla had to be more powerful than Bloom, because water easily puts out fire is...💀💀💀 I really feel vindicated by Fate now. 😁
@@talkytilki This!!! oml this! i was angry at Winx because of how underpowered LAyla/Aisha was. Generally was upset that they couldn't find more powers for all the Winx in general. i would argue how powerful Musa should be because music is very controlling of your moods and all of that, thinking that her most destructive spell should've been so loud that it rocked the earth. Speaking of which, i would get upset that they limit Flora's magic (she was my favourite) to flowers as if her name limits it. She's the Fairy of Nature!!! Storms, hurricanes, wind, and earthquakes are all part of nature!!! i was a little peeved about the limitations of their powers, especially as a child.
@@talkytilkimaybe because it not about elements rather it about magic and Bloom dragon flame created the universe and all winx club members drow power from bloom
I'm jealous of all you guys. Okay, sidenote I watched Winx (wasn't fully invested) and barely knew what Witch was. If only I could turn back time and try to live those moments.
@@GabrielMichaelDels I just learned about them now caus I myself didn't know what w.i.t.c.h is but winx yeah I have watch them since I was at kid but w.i.t.c.h is great to
These fan-wars of these fandoms are getting out of hand if you asked me. It reminds me of the Barbie vs Bratz war that happened from back in the day. People aren't less of a person if they enjoy both franchises like I do. Don't get me started on the Marvel vs DC,Disney vs Dreamworks,Anime and K-pop fan-wars
Its seems that early 2000s entertainment was all about competition between two sides. With all the other examples you've mentioned, I can see it wasn't just a Winx vs Witch thing. It was the entire culture at the time to be competitive but also use archetypes that your competitors were using. This Witch vs Winx thing also reminds me of Pokemon vs Digimon, the fanwars between both competing pairs were equally as loud and accusing of their rivals
Comparing these two is like comparing 2012 TMNT to 1987 TMNT. One was cleverly written with a darker aesthetic while the other is colorful campy fun. I'm just glad that W.i.t.c.h. isn't at war with Avatar: The Last Airbender and The Legend of Korra.
If W.I.T.C.H could get a sequel I have one question, should Blunk continue to be with the girls???? Cause while I don't hate him, he sadly makes it pretty difficult to recommend the show. Even Greg Weisman said he didn't like him, and only kept him do to obligation.
One thing about disney and winx that no one talk about is that after disney loose the lawsuit, witch ended and winx continue to be so popular they made the tinklebell movies and franchise to end competition, i mean now tinklebell have 5 friends with diversive ethnics and representive colours and nature powers…
the Tinkerbell movies were based on the old Disney fairies chapter books that came out in the early 2000's and those books were a continuation of fairy Haven and the quest for the egg. I highly recommend recommend them.
Considering the recent entries of the Winx franchise, both the newer seasons and LA adaptation, I tend to go to the Witch fandom saying of "You either die a W.I.T.C.H or live long enough to see yourself become Winx Club" Outside the comparisons, Winx Club lasted longer and was more successful despite Witch having the Disney Brand support. BUT it has the reach the point where Winx should had ended years ago and is now in Simpsons levels of declining quality and writers refusing the girls to grow up and mature as well as the big mistake of changing the art style to something more "cutesy" and the characters looking way younger (especially the boys who now look like Elementary children). W.i.t.c.h ended years ago but it has the upside where people can fondly remember it as a whole while with Winx you still have to wait for the complete story and is now suffering from mixed seasons.
Winx lasted longer because it's less mature, more pink, glittery and trendy. WITCH was darker and while targeting mostly girls, it was actually way more down to earth than Winx. Winx is using every single little trend to survive and it works. But the result is that it became a bland product without any soul.
@Will N Killing characters doesn't mean it's mature. Nabu's death was never called a death for that reason. In WITCH a death is a death. In Winx it's a long sleep. That's the main difference, one is raw and the other will hide it behind lot of sugar coating. None is worst or better than the other, it's just different.
The fact that I was part of both fandoms and trashed on both at the same time 😎 But no, seriously I imagined W.I.T.C.H. girls as witches of cloud tower and was hoping for some crossover.
This is very interesting! I did know some minor things about the lawsuit, but I didn't know W.I.T.C.H. was conceived way back in 1997. And that's even though I stand as a bigger W.I.T.C.H. fan than a Winx one. I do know that at the end of each one's run, both started slowly falling apart, as they were trying to outdo each other, instead of focusing on what made them stand out from each other in the beginning. My personal experience with it when I was a child is that I found issue 6 of W.I.T.C.H. at my grandmother's sister's bookstore. From there on, I got every issue up to my teenage years. At the time, I found out about Winx at school and I immediately thought it was a cheap W.I.T.C.H. knock-off. That was also due to the fact Winx was less popular than W.I.T.C.H. in my country. Still, my opinion is that it's very much possible the Winx girls' final designs were in some way or another inspired by the W.I.T.C.H. girls designs. I'm now more interested in the case from an Italian point of view.
The year 1997, I saw on a French interview with Canepa and Barbucci, and I went with it since I thought it was important to focus on their perspective, but it's true that you don't really see that date anywhere else (except on forums I think 🤔). Where I grew up, Winx was definitely more popular, so we did end up on the wrong side of the argument sometimes😅. It's interesting, because for me the earlier art style of Winx reminds me of WITCH's animated style more, which is funny when they are different generations. I think it's interesting in Winx when you can spot character designs that are from the older version vs the new. Palladium is the most obvious one, but I always thought the Cloud Tower professors Ediltrude and Zarathustra looked out place, perhaps because their designs are from the earlier version.
@@talkytilki Well, I can't find much about the accuracy of that, but I haven't looked that much either. Public information is scarce, but I would love to look more into the court case, as I imagine it would hold a lot of information on the matter. Yeah, the tv show aired later on, probably around 2006-2007, as far as I remember. And I was like "Great, now it's gonna be compared to Winx even more" xD I actually watched Winx Club for the first time around two years ago, I'd say, so I am very late in the game with that, but I can say the change in style and animation is... polarizing. I would say I liked the older style better, despite it looking a bit strange and derpy in some frames. It had a lot of charm and when they gradually switched to flash animation with rigs and automated tweening, it started feeling a little cheap. Despite the designs being cleaner-looking. I would say W.I.T.C.H.'s animation was more of a subpar Avatar: The Last Airbender imitation. With very strange eyelashes with some characters. I didn't mind it, but I liked the comic designs better - they were more Disney-like.
@@RimFaxxe They're both good for different reasons. Please stop giving Winx fans a bad name by perpetuating this lame debate. What people like is subjective.
The first show I watched was WITCH, it was SO big in Poland and so was Jetix. I only learnt about Winx later and didn't like it that much at first, but eventually happened to enjoy it! I found it hilarious when they showed Winx dolls commercials before airing WITCH on Jetix, lol! I'm always surprised to hear that Winx was way more popular in the US

I think winx and witch cartoon are great examples of quote ''You either die a hero or you live long enough to see yourself become a villiain'' one started strong had opportunity to end after first movie but it still goes on and went down hill couple years ago by making questionable decision in terms of plot making their fans hate newer seasons and other although ended after only 2 seasons had solid plot and good characters and it always will be remebered that way
I really think that after finishing their original arc, Winx should have taken a Star Wars approach, and gone into extended universe storylines. They introduce a lot of locations and characters who could hold a series on their own. Take Andros for example, we see it so little, yet it's so huge: The gate to the omega dimension, the ocean ruled by mermaids, the ground by fairies, apparently a rich history of wizards and even a school for wizards specifically. A co-ed group (a fairy, a wizard, a mermaid, a witch, maybe some non-magic knights, male and female) off adventuring around Andros, exploring the planet, could be a great series for children that adults could also enjoy. You could bring in characters we know like Taboc the Wise, or maybe Queen Aisha as winks to the original. Also making multiple in-universe series could mean that you can address different age groups individually, rather than trying to satisfy older fans and a toddler audience at the same time.
@@talkytilki Yes, all of this! This is exactly what I have wanted from Winx for years now. Unfortunately, we're probably never gonna get it. Though there's an amazing fan-comic called Almost Magical over on Webtoon that goes all-in all of these things with great, characters and world-building. It gives you all the feelings from the earlier days of the show and more and is only going to ramp up more as time goes on considering some of the old story concepts on the author's Deviant Art.
Ah yes I know Almost Magical of course! And I’m still hopeful…? Maybe Daddy Straffi will employ me and let me rescue Winx from the depths of despair… 🥺👉👈

That list with the white and black stereotypes is messed up. Like Alex from Totally Spies is Hispanic from what I recall, though never really pointed out. Then Cole being a “stylish diva” and a “drama mama” is even more messed up, since every Bratz has a fashion for passion, like the line says. Sasha does tend to have some stereotypes, as in music and dance, but she’s also seen as a de facto leader to the group. And each Bratz has attitude; Yasmin is very sarcastic and I never hear people bring it up while Cole’s Drama Mama thing isn’t even rude, it’s honestly more like she’s anxious and neurotic. Doesn’t even bring up that they are all in a rock group and a bunch of other things they share in common. I do agree there is stereotypes, but there are more issues to be had with these characters. Like how Musa and Aisha both have bright colored eyes, despite being non-white. I mean I think we can suspend some disbelief, but at that same time, what if a person of the same background watched the show and felt they didn’t look like their fav characters? The new Bratz Game did that too, having Sasha, Jade, and Yasmin have green eyes. It looked bizarre, especially since in most the show and movies, Jade had brown eyes and Sasha and Yasmin had green and Hazel eyes respectfully.
Hello! That infographic is from the paper I cited (in the description). I talk more about some of the assumptions it makes in my 'academic coverage' video.
Like I am surprised no one talks about Winx and its inspiration in both Harry Potter and Sailor Moon, like when I saw Winx the references to Harry Potter are just overwhelming three magic schools, Bloom growing up as a human and finding out she's a fairy as a teenager (possibly dead parents who fought against an evil wizard) an evil wizard etc and of course the Sailor Moon references are there too especially in the dress transformations
Winx was catered towards toddlers and children but W.I.T.C.H was catered towards teens and young adults! When i was a child I could feel how revolutionary w.I.t.c.h was at that time people didn’t have the mental capacity to comprehend the show well so it got cancelled. When I watch Winx I feel like I am starting first grade 😅
Winx pre-2011 was very much intended for a teen audience as well as a child audience. That's why there are more adult storylines relating to the parents, or references real-world issues (e.g., the threat of ter - ror on Eraklyon), and there are plenty of references to animes which were popular in Italy in the 90s (because a teen audience in 2000s would have recognised them), and also adult jokes. And in the comics, they even confront issues of online groo - ming, drug abuse, and a big one is always capitalist exploitation of natural resources. So, a very young audience would watch the show and see a sparkly story about fairies, whereas an audience that's starting to become self-aware, would recognise the messages. The subtleties get lost in the English-language dubs, and as for the references, they must not be as well known outside Italy, I guess, because no one really talks about them.
As far as I know, W.i.t.c.h. actually got cancelled because it didn't fare as well as it was thought it would. From my knowledge, the culprit was the fact that they steered from the comic books and made quite a lot of changes. The audience wasn't too happy with the animation of the first season since it was rather wonky and dark, quite different than the comics that were actually bright and colorful in spite of the dark themes and plot that they approached, and then season 2, despite being better and the animation improving since they changed studios and hired completely different people for it, a majority of the audience wasn't thrilled because, again, many plot points and characters were changed. Nerissa's arc is arguably the most loved by people who had read the comics before watching the cartoon and instead of staying faithful to it, the writers changed way too many vital details (Nerissa turning out to be Caleb's mom, Matt becoming one with Shagon, Halinor being a member of the Kandrakar council, Cassidy coming back to life, Yuan-Lin getting a "twin sister", Cedric becoming the big bad even though his comic book counterpart had a redemption arc and many more). tl;dr As someone who grew up with the comics years before the cartoon came out, I can't say that I hated it. I don't exactly adore it but I do have a love-hate relationship with it and I still watch it every now and then because of nostalgia and I now treat it as its own separate entity. But it didn't fare well with the audience and I can understand why, this is what happens when you mess the plot and move too far away from the source material. Just take a look at Fate: The Winx Saga. Season 1 also got a lot of hate because the writers changed too many things.
@orangeslash1667 From what I heard, he did because many people found him annoying and unnecessary, considering he wasn't in the comic. Tbh I also found him annoying at first and it took some time to warm up to him.
Honestly I never got into the fan drama because I was a fan of both shows. I felt they were different enough that it made sense for people to like one more then the other depending on what they liked. I just happened to like what both shows had to offer. So imagine my surprise when I would stumble onto arguments about which show was better among fans by just how brutal it was like "jesus calm down people"
I can't wait to fully dive into this video! But that clip you inserted of Bethenny and Sonja arguing about Tipsy Girl vs Skinny Girl for "cheater brand" took me all of the way out 🤣🤣🤣
My solution: We should gather the creators of both shows/fandoms and let them draw/film a collaboration where both sides fight it out in a high-populated city, while Manowars 'Let the gods decide' is blasting in the background, just for an third, extreme strong enemy to appear, whom they have to fight together. And boom, there you have a shared multiverse/universe.
As a kid i liked witch and loved winx. The main thing between them in my school was actually… the name! How the name was similar and they’re magical girls. That’s it 😂 We kids thought it wasn’t that deep!
The WITCH series was the first I watched and knew of. I absolutely loved it on Jetix, and I remember anticipating season 2 in real time. I found out with a delay that it was based on a comic book. I believe I started watching Winx sometime in 2008 or 2009 on UA-cam because I'd heard of it by then but wasn't as keen on it. So I gave it a chance. I really recommend you give the WITCH series a chance and watch it. It's so good!! It's better than the comic because it fixes the comic's inconsistencies and plot holes.
@@denzelwynter I vividly remember this season 2 commercial that featured a scene of Cornelia crying and a scene of Taranee floating in the darkness and drawing a door with a chalk. I had no idea what those scenes meant, and I was so hyped to find out.😊
@@talkytilki Be warned the show added a character that never showed up in the comics named Blunk. He reminds me way too much of Gollum from Lord of the Rings, and his propose is comic relive. He's somehow voiced Steve Blum, I couldn't believe it when I first saw it!
Funnily enough, both were supposed to end much earlier than they did and continued because of popularity, and somehow the writers of both couldn't continue without plot holes and retcons and very little world building, leading to. them decline in quality.
If anything W.I.T.C.H. is the reason I watched Winx Club, I grew up watching W.I.T.C.H. and then re-watched it last year and then I decided 'Hey let's watch that other fairy show.' One thing I hate is the filler moments where the plot's happening and then that's put on hold for the dumb school stuff, I get that some of that develops characters but other times it feels like it's the characters interacting and the audience is told that they're bonding.
Archetypes and the competitive nature of entertainment of the 2000s, that's the shortest answer to why Winx and Witch have certain similaritites to eachother and why their fans were so salty about the opposite franchise. Even without Disney trying to sue Rainbow, there's no doubt the comparisons, fan wars and marketing strategies to make one look a lot like the other would've still happened.
This is a very interesting topic. I'm a fan of both and watched both shows (winx 1-4 only though, 5-8 aren't my thing, and same goes to wow), and read witch comic, didn't get the chance to read winx comic yet though. But overall I love both and to me they're too different and I don't see the need for comparison or prefering one over the other and claiming the other is bad. On another note, the witch creators saying the story becoming feminine is bad is such an early 2000 misogyny moment lmao. Both franchises are fun BECAUSE they're girly/feminine. Nothing wrong with that.
i absolutely love winx and am open to start watching w.i.t.c.h, i heard about it maybe only last year while i was watching totally spies on youtube, never knew of it when i was younger but i feel that if they’re similar, then i would definitely start to love w.i.t.c.h too!
I feel like WITCH had a much more interesting plot especially with Narissa in season 2 but Winx had far better graphics and style but the main thing is they both had narcissistic blonds stella and Cornelia to lighten the mood
it was in production first, but the early concept was totally different of what we know today, so they had time to change the concept and to copy a lot of things from WITCH
@@heykevinramosThe only reason winx didn't end up like how it was originally supposed to loook and feel because it tested horribly with audiences lioe they enjoyed the concept but it lacked the magic. So everything was completely scrapped and real life fashion designers had to be brought on in order to overhaul winx club why else do you think they all look like they stepped out of a Britney Spears music video. "Plus the whole rainbow might've had tome to copy w.i.t.c.h argument "thing holds no true value cause if anything the only thing they share in common are protagonist with red well in blooms case ginger hair and a group of girls.
i watched both when i was younger, though not all the episodes, and yes magical girls were very prevalent. There are definitely some aesthetic similarities but it stopped there for me. It looked like they were diversifying (All the shows i've watched from W.I.T.C.H to Winx to Tinkerbell to Bratz and Monster High) so that any girl could feel represented somewhat or have a favourite.
Winx was in production first, but the early concept was totally different of what we know today, so they had time to change the concept and to copy a lot of things from WITCH
What similarities does the Winx that came out in 2004 have with Witch? The character designs aren’t the same, the character storylines aren’t the same, and neither are the transformations and the earlier concept of Winx still is shown in the pilot such as Tecna’s hair and outfit, Stella and Bloom’s hair, outfit and color designs. So what EXACTLY did they copy from Witch? 🤕🤕🤕 Only thing you can say is that they’re a diverse group of girls but Iginio even said he drew inspiration of 00s popstars when making the girls who you cant even say they stole their designs 😂 either way Disney lost the law suit so that shows they never copied
It appears that the animated series Winx Club may have drawn inspiration from the earlier series W.I.T.C.H., despite claims to the contrary by some individuals.
@heykevinramos "and to copy a lot of things from WITCH" Just because they have a lot of similar concepts doesn't mean that winx is a copy, if we go by your logic then we could point out that WITCH is a copy of Sailor moon.
One thing that i notice about the witch vs winx fandom wars is that many witch fans tend to blame winx for witch dying out, thinking that its the sole reason when in reality thats just a fraction of it.
It sounds like 2 different series developed at same time with similar concepts and neither copied the other this is just Pokémon and digimon people always claim digimon copied Pokémon but digimon started as a virtual pet and Pokémon started as a video game and then the anime came out similar but far from identical concepts yet people bashed digimon do to its similarities even though there wasn’t many I watched both winx and witch never thought they were anything alike at all other than the fact they were both magical girls I hate crap like this
I personally feel that WITCH is better the Winx. I meet the setting is more beautiful looking, it has interesting characters, the story of each episode are entertaining and well written, it has a far more better fantasy theme, the voice acting isn't that cringe inducing and the animation is a lot better. It also doesn't fall into a lot of girl school cliches like shopping montage, cute boys squeeing and the female alpha bitch. In WITCH, Will and her friends has to deal with a trio of idiotic bullies.
Really cool video, I never heard anything about this drama before so it was really cool. I'm french and in my country WITCH had a really good success but it was nothing compared to the pipebomb that Winx was. At school, everyone was a Winx, or Sky, Brandon etc XD. Also winx got away with a lot like some say the beauty episode had something about 4kids changed stormy and a few outfits besides the hair thing and some of the fights are violent
Will and.. um the blonde one, are basically bloom and stella, but everyone else is very different, the water fairy sort of has that mother/serious vibe like layla/aisha The other black girl in witch is literally scared of everything while aisha is the brave one, they aren't really that similar, it's a 00s tv show, everyone used the same character stereotypes
In my opinion I prefer Witch for the simple fact that they look more human, when in Winx they only look for shallow girls and without much depth and the winx only cry for men
Now this is how I KNOW you’re lying or just didnt watch Winx 💀 Musa literally struggled with performing because of her mom’s death theres even an episode where they showed back flashes of her mom dying because they were too poor to afford medicine for her so she passed out on the stage and her father destroyed all of the music instruments and banned Musa from ever performing that alone has more depth than ANYTHING the witch comics OR SHOW has ever displayed
@@user-nx7el4uu8ywhat she probably means is that it gets brushed off easily and she had plenty of chances to being back her mother and she didn’t so that’s her fault

I definitely recommend watching the Rai dub/Cinelume (same thing) as they are 100% faithful to the original Italian. I would avoid the 4kids dub as it is known to censor some details. I believe that the Rai dub is the only dub to cover the first 4 seasons as well. The Winx reddit goes into more detail about the differences between all the dubs if you're curious. :)
@@aneesak6810 I tried watching the 1st episode of the Rai dub and it felt very unprofessional, I could barely hear anything and all of the voice actors sounded like they were phoning it in. I watched the 4Kids dub of the 1st episode and while 4kids is awful, at least the voices felt like different characters. I don't want to be combative, it's just what's the point of following the original story if your voice-acting and execution is shoddy. Part of me wants to give the 4Kids a chance to see how much of a trainwreck it is, but only the 1st 4 seasons.
Rai is the most faithful to the original Italian version. 4Kids version is just so different with the characters personalities and the lore of the world, that it can sometimes be considered glorified fanfiction. If you want the canonical story as it was meant to be, then watch the Rai version. "I tried watching the 1st episode of the Rai dub and it felt very unprofessional, I could barely hear anything and all of the voice actors sounded like they were phoning it in" I don't know what you mean by this. I just went to the first episode of the Rai version, it sounds normal.
@Will N What are you even talking about in your first and last paragraph? Arthur? The actors sound bored? What? They sound fine. I hate to be the one to say this, but it doesn't matter if it's the least edited show, it's still edited and changed characters and the lore. And "least edited" compared to what? The show is fanfiction. The changes made to the characters, story and lore make sure of that. And a lot of the changes were just unnecessary, like changing the meaning of "Winx", Daphne not being Bloom's sister, all the characters being princesses, and a lot of dialogue changes for the sake of change, not because they were "unsuitable" for an American audience. Hate to be the bearer of bad news, but this is fanfiction. It's not canon. When official Winx products are made or discussed, they won't be based on the 4Kids, they will be based on the Italian/Rai version. You talk about which dub was most popular as if you have the number to prove this, if you do, please share them. I looked, but other than knowing that 4kids aired in America and some English speaking countries. I know that there are about 5 english dubs, and the most well known were 4Kids and the Cinelume dub. From a video here on YT, the 4Kids aired in America, UK, Canada and Australia. Not because it was the "best" or whatever, but because it was the only one at the time. Better and more faithful dubs were being worked on when 4Kids starting airing the show, and these dubs aired in other countries. There's no information about which version aired where other than commenters you'll find discussing the dubs. These countries aired the Cinelume dub or dubs based off of it, rather than the 4Kids; South Africa, Singapore, Spain and Germany. These are just the ones I remember.
@Will N I have "purist" views because I want the dub to be faithful to the original story? Please. If Rainbow doesn't communicate with people, that's because of whatever reasons they have, not because people don't consider 4Kids canon, which it isn't, as it changes character personalities, story/plot points, the lore of the world etc. It doesn't matter how minor or huge, for better or worse, the changes are, they aren't the official story meant to be told by the creator. So, I don't see why Rainbow would even acknowledge it. Parents tell children that they're adopted whenever they want to tell them. Some tell them when the kids are younger, some tell them when they're older. It's up to the parents to decide when to tell the children, not anyone else. I don't even know why you're bringing this up to support your argument about 4kids being good.
Honestly, Phobos. I feel like while Valtor was cunning and intelligent, Phobos was actually more calculated. Valtor came and was straight-forward about his intent of taking over the magical dimension, but Phobos was more devious and preferred to stay in the shadows until his plan reached a point where he felt comfortable, he didn't strike me as the type of villain to underestimate his opponents. Sure, he did so in the beginning but he had reason to - there was a new generation of Guardians who had just been appointed and had proven to be quite unskilled and uncertain, but once the girls got a better understanding of their powers and become more experienced with them, I don't remember him underestimating them. Valtor, on the other hand, recognized Bloom as a threat due to having the Dragon Flame but easily dismissed the other Winx. Leaving the Trix to deal with them on most occasions, to me, proved that he didn't even think that they would be worth bothering for them, he could just let his minions take care of them. But honestly, Cedric. To me, Cedric was a much better villain than both Phobos and Valtor.
@@stanwinx1144 Funny Fact: Cedric was voiced by Dee Bradley Baker, his credits include Klaus Heisler from American Dad, Viewtiful Joe, and The Toiletnator from Kids Next Door. Complete 180 in personalty from Cedric.
when it comes to winx, i always thought it was a really kiddy show - is it not? also my issue with winx was the art/ animation style. i much prefer w.i.t.c.h ':-)
S1-4 Was not a kiddy show especially with the themes of vengeance, murder, dealing with the lost of a parent which results in PTSD, and etc It was a show targeted towards kids yes (Just as W.I.T.C.H was but unlike Winx it DOESNT have the depth and character storylines that Winx brought) but just like every 00s kid show it has realistic themes and dark themes at that its just masked by the sparkles and feminine art style
I've watched the first three and a half series of Winx Club. They were apparently written for ten year old girls, and apparently with the intention of not exceeding the limited mental abilities of ten year old girls. I had trouble with them because I've noticed that ten year old girls are a lot smarter than studio executives give them credit for. W.I.T.C.H. didn't talk down to the audience. Admittedly, the animation wasn't nearly as good as the comics, but they took the audience seriously. The characters had actual waistlines, rather than looking as though all their internal organs had been surgically removed. They dressed normally rather than like fashion models (except Cornelia, who was admittedly rather vain) and had normal teenage problems to contend with. their romantic relations were difficult sand frequently fell apart. The difference can bee seen by comparing Winx (without Barbucci or Artibani) to Monster Allergy (with Barbucci and Artibani). A definite upgrade in story quality. For me, the best thing Rainbow has done was Regal Academy. They hit a peak on that one.
Newer know abaut the fandrama war between this shows like bouth shows equal even if i watch winx more when i was yonger. Just wish witch got moore. Got bouth witch and winx comics in swedish at home.
Like come on how can you compare Winx to WITCh , winx is the best show in my op because of it’s storylines and everything. Like all of the seasons of winx have different transformations and new storylines
"W.I.T.C.H. had no plot whatsoever" ...You're kidding, right? Season 1: 5 teenage girls find out that they are magical Guardians of a mystic Veil between Earth and Metamoor/Meridian, that they have to close holes that have opened up in the Veil, and that a rebellion is brewing on Meridian with the evil Prince of the realm searching for his long-lost younger sister (and rightful heir) so he can steal her powers. The Guardians actively get involved in the rebellion to overthrow Phobos while learning how to work together as a team and keep their magical lives secret from their families & friends. All this was adapted from the first arc in the comic (The Twelve Portals). Season 2: Deals with the political fallout from the previous season after the tyrant Phobos has been overthrown, with those who had supported and been close to him seeking vengeance on the Guardians of the Veil, the people of Meridian, and the rightful Queen to the throne. It is later revealed that Phobos taking power plus the Rebellion against him had all been part of a larger plan by the season's major villain, who has been pulling strings behind-the-scenes via multiple identities for decades. The newly crowned Queen of Meridian is later tricked (again), has her powers drained without her knowledge, and is imprisoned for months in basically solitary confinement on another plane of reality. Meanwhile, the villain of this season disposes of her Knights of Vengeance after their purposes have been served, creates a new set of Knights to go after the Guardians & their families while she focuses on brainwashing and collecting her former teammates as well as collecting as many mystical Hearts of worlds to strengthen her own power (eventually planning on conquering the universe). This season was based on the second arc of the comics (Nerissa's Revenge) and welded the two arcs together (they were unconnected in the comics). All this, while the Guardians have to deal with normal teenage lives: boyfriends, middle & high school, sibling rivalry, familial relationships AND keeping their double lives secret from not only their families but everyone at school. The original comic had 7 full story arcs before it switched to a more "slice of life" format and ran from 2001 - 2012, with the concept being thought up by the creators in 1997 (the creators were also screwed over by Disney and kicked off the project halfway through the first arc).
The fact that winx got the takeoff instead of w.i.t.c.h is just another proof that it doesn't really matter how good a show can be. The more commercialized one will always be more popular. W.i.t.c.h is amazing. Well-written, great jokes, portrays the struggles of doube identities very well and it all makes it much more realistic and enjoyable than all the lovey dovey 5 year-old audience bullsh*t that winx is. It was always about just being a good show, while winx has always been about profit and it shows. Anything past season 3 is UNWATCHABLE.
You’re biased AS HELL. Witch didnt get the take off because of how trash it was and how it wasnt faithful to the comics hence why fans broadcasted their distaste for it and decided not to watch it mixed in with the general public just not enjoying it Winx club literally showcased the struggles of losing a parent (Which even resulted in Musa’s dad having PTSD and banning Musa from ever performing because he blames music for killing her mother), Poverty, the effects of estranged lovers have on a child, struggles of showing emotion, and even Bloom finding out shes adopted and how her sister was literally killed saving her 😭 Winx had more depth like just stop But I will agree anything past S4 was just a cash grab but even S5 had more realistic and dark scenes than Witch like when Aisha was still grieving over the death of her finance she saw a fake version of him blaming her for his death and began to break down like Witch was not showcasing scenes like this.
@@user-nx7el4uu8y Come on now. Anyone I've ever spoken to about it enjoyed the series. I myself have been collecting the comics since the age of 10, so 15 years. But somehow I manage to have the brains to know that what works as a comic, may not be an entirely right format for a series. I love the realism and that doom-like darkness the show portrays. And also the jokes are really on point and the voice acting is just pure chef's kiss. I would also say that the show has portrayed Nerissa a HELL OF A LOT BETTER than the comics did. Comic Nerissa is awful.
@@spaceparrot8702 "Anyone I've ever spoken to about it enjoyed the series" Could be just a minority whereas the general public like the other guy said, wasn't happy with the changes especially if some of them aren't hardcore fans.
@@lj3830 I get you. This is another reason for me to "stick to my guns". The general public just looks more and more stupid by the day. I don't feel bad disagreeing with them.

Exactly there simply 2 series developed at the same it’s crazy how many times that happened Pokémon v digimon winx v witch happens all the time sometimes companies follow trends anybody think about that instead of accusing somebody of copying them
They have the same source(which is also the source of "Harry Potter", coincidentally or not), namely, "The worst witch" series by Jill Murphy.
Still wish that W.I.T.C.H had a more seasons though. It was such a good show.
Check the comic. It's so much better written and the story is concluded in it. The show was based on it but changed some things.
@@رزيئة I already read the comics and I love them.

I know I got bullied all time by Pokémon fans over digimon because I liked both and still do despite it
The bratz vs barbie annoys me so much. Like shut the hell up, they both have good and bad lmao. Just enjoy the damn franchises!
Amen
I agreed
W.I.T.C.H. Deserved a season 3!
Considering the recent entries of the Winx franchise, both the newer seasons and LA adaptation, I tend to go to the Witch fandom saying of "You either die a W.I.T.C.H or live long enough to see yourself become Winx Club"
Outside the comparisons, Winx Club lasted longer and was more successful despite Witch having the Disney Brand support.
To me, Winx Club ended with seasons 1-3, and the movie the Lost Kingdom was kind of an epilogue for me.
Winx lasted longer because it's less mature, more pink, glittery and trendy. WITCH was darker and while targeting mostly girls, it was actually way more down to earth than Winx. Winx is using every single little trend to survive and it works. But the result is that it became a bland product without any soul.
Hopefuly the reboot will fix that, based on the images we have of it...
@@sansastark4040 I agree. Season 4 and everything afterwards is fanfiction to me.
The fact that I was part of both fandoms and trashed on both at the same time 😎
But no, seriously I imagined W.I.T.C.H. girls as witches of cloud tower and was hoping for some crossover.
i love this idea, that would've been some epic crossover too.
And I was like "Great, now it's gonna be compared to Winx even more" xD
I actually watched Winx Club for the first time around two years ago, I'd say, so I am very late in the game with that, but I can say the change in style and animation is...

I think winx and witch cartoon are great examples of quote ''You either die a hero or you live long enough to see yourself become a villiain''
one started strong had opportunity to end after first movie but it still goes on and went down hill couple years ago by making questionable decision in terms of plot making their fans hate newer seasons and other although ended after only 2 seasons had solid plot and good characters and it always will be remebered that way
I really think that after finishing their original arc, Winx should have taken a Star Wars approach, and gone into extended universe storylines.
I thought I was the only one that noticed the parallel between Winx and Harry Potter. I always considered it to be a cute genderbent version of Hp.
I remember someone commenting that on a Winx episode once!
Both have a common root(and this root is in "W.I.T.C.H." too), namely Jill Murphy's "The worst witch" series.
@@floraflowers You articulated it very well 👏
@@floraflowers I wonder if Blunk turned people off from the show????
@orangeslash1667 From what I heard, he did because many people found him annoying and unnecessary, considering he wasn't in the comic. Tbh I also found him annoying at first and it took some time to warm up to him.
4:41 I’m so glad they changed Musa’s design 🤚
I loved both but I would've loved to see a crossover
Honestly I never got into the fan drama because I was a fan of both shows. I felt they were different enough that it made sense for people to like one more then the other depending on what they liked. I just happened to like what both shows had to offer. So imagine my surprise when I would stumble onto arguments about which show was better among fans by just how brutal it was like "jesus calm down people"
I can't wait to fully dive into this video! But that clip you inserted of Bethenny and Sonja arguing about Tipsy Girl vs Skinny Girl for "cheater brand" took me all of the way out 🤣🤣🤣
I found this channel yesterday and your content already seems very interesting to me. We were needing something like this in the Winx fandom
wow tysm 🥺👉👈
My solution: We should gather the creators of both shows/fandoms and let them draw/film a collaboration where both sides fight it out in a high-populated city, while Manowars 'Let the gods decide' is blasting in the background, just for an third, extreme strong enemy to appear, whom they have to fight together. And boom, there you have a shared multiverse/universe.
Love it
As a kid i liked witch and loved winx. The main thing between them in my school was actually… the name! How the name was similar and they’re magical girls. That’s it 😂 We kids thought it wasn’t that deep!
Oh
Bruh anyone remember all those winx/witch fight videos? I remember the we will rock you mv
I look forward to it!!! I need to find the time to immerse myself in WITCH.
We are the same! There was an exclusive first peek on Jetix UK of the 2nd season which was amazing. The comics were much better than the show though.
Witch will never be bigger than wix never
true!
Both were good, and that is what mattered
I love videos about old forum fandom drama. I can't wait for part 2.

Disney trying to Sue winx club for ripping off w.i.t.c.h when winx club was in production first will always make me cackle
it was in production first, but the early concept was totally different of what we know today, so they had time to change the concept and to copy a lot of things from WITCH
Only thing you can say is that they’re a diverse group of girls but Iginio even said he drew inspiration of 00s popstars when making the girls who you cant even say they stole their designs 😂 either way Disney lost the law suit so that shows they never copied
It appears that the animated series Winx Club may have drawn inspiration from the earlier series W.I.T.C.H., despite claims to the contrary by some individuals.
@@Thex-W.I.T.C.H.-xMaster Winx drew its inspirations from sailor moon, witch has nothing to do with it.
@heykevinramos "and to copy a lot of things from WITCH"
Just because they have a lot of similar concepts doesn't mean that winx is a copy, if we go by your logic then we could point out that WITCH is a copy of Sailor moon.
I love W.I.T.C.H
One thing that i notice about the witch vs winx fandom wars is that many witch fans tend to blame winx for witch dying out, thinking that its the sole reason when in reality thats just a fraction of it.
You have a great narration voice, this was a blast to listen to!! Makes me nostalgic
wow thank you🥺👉👈
It sounds like 2 different series developed at same time with similar concepts and neither copied the other this is just Pokémon and digimon people always claim digimon copied Pokémon but digimon started as a virtual pet and Pokémon started as a video game and then the anime came out similar but far from identical concepts yet people bashed digimon do to its similarities even though there wasn’t many I watched both winx and witch never thought they were anything alike at all other than the fact they were both magical girls I hate crap like this
I personally feel that WITCH is better the Winx.
I love to explore these topics, thank you for the informative video, great job❤
Fun fact on disney Italia youtube channel 4 months ago was announced W.I.T.C.H will have reboot comic adaptation
Really cool video, I never heard anything about this drama before so it was really cool. I'm french and in my country WITCH had a really good success but it was nothing compared to the pipebomb that Winx was. At school, everyone was a Winx, or Sky, Brandon etc XD. And I must cry with you. After season 3 Winx slowly started to became an insult to what the serie was in the first three seasons. I still so mad about what they've done. (sorry for my english btw XD)

I never participated in the fandom wars but I was aware about it. I watched Winx Club as an adult and I still prefer W.I.T.C.H. (specifically the W.I.T.C.H. comics over the W.I.T.C.H. cartoon)
Ah, I'm sorry. I'm trying to link videos I use if they're not from official channels; I must have overlooked it. I'll link it in the description with the others.

Also winx got away with a lot like some say the beauty episode had something about 4kids changed stormy and a few outfits besides the hair thing and some of the fights are violent
Kinda sounds like WITCH and Winx just swapped notes.
I still like both. But Winx only till 3rd season.
Will and.. um the blonde one, are basically bloom and stella, but everyone else is very different, the water fairy sort of has that mother/serious vibe like layla/aisha
The other black girl in witch is literally scared of everything while aisha is the brave one, they aren't really that similar, it's a 00s tv show, everyone used the same character stereotypes
@Will N well I've been watching witch and they are pretty much the same pretty girl wanna be popular type, stella is a more cartoony version tho
Like DBZ fandom says; Winx Club had "essence"
@@Ariisheretoday Musa’s problem with her mother was never brushed off because they would still mention it or Musa would literally talk to a hologram photo of her mom in eps its a core part of her character since it ties in with her love of music (her mom was a musician)
also she only had 1 chance to be with her mom but she had to choose the water stars to save the world (another example of how Winx Club has more depth than W.I.T.C.H) Musa’s mom even says shes proud of Musa for making this choice
Question: Which Winx dub should I go with? I know there's more than one, one was closer to the plot (I think the Rai English).
"I tried watching the 1st episode of the Rai dub and it felt very unprofessional, I could barely hear anything and all of the voice actors sounded like they were phoning it in"
I don't know what you mean by this.
These countries aired the Cinelume dub or dubs based off of it, rather than the 4Kids;
South Africa, Singapore, Spain and Germany.
Amazing video, very interesting :)
the big question tho, VALTOR OR PHOBOS?
To me, Cedric was a much better villain than both Phobos and Valtor.

when it comes to winx, i always thought it was a really kiddy show - is it not? also my issue with winx was the art/ animation style. i much prefer w.i.t.c.h ':-)

Witch had no plot what so ever, but the comparison is stupid considering it only had 2 season
"W.I.T.C.H. had no plot whatsoever" ...You're kidding, right?
Witch didnt get the take off because of how trash it was and how it wasnt faithful to the comics hence why fans broadcasted their distaste for it and decided not to watch it mixed in with the general public just not enjoying it
Winx club literally showcased the struggles of losing a parent (Which even resulted in Musa’s dad having PTSD and banning Musa from ever performing because he blames music for killing her mother), Poverty, the effects of estranged lovers have on a child, struggles of showing emotion, and even Bloom finding out shes adopted and how her sister was literally killed saving her 😭 Winx had more depth like just stop
But I will agree anything past S4 was just a cash grab but even S5 had more realistic and dark scenes than Witch like when Aisha was still grieving over the death of her finance she saw a fake version of him blaming her for his death and began to break down like Witch was not showcasing scenes like this.
