Yet another reason why Fate Saga didn't need to try so hard to be edgy. Winx has always had a dark undertone with twisted implications, whether that be political, psychological, or social. All they had to do was draw on those existing elements more to create a rich and mature experience for their audience. Thanks for the dive! I didn't even know the comics existed as a kid, so I ate this up!
The comics offered a less sugary side of the Winx Club since the beginning and it's really refreshing, however I feel it became more childish with the years.
My favorite dark part of the comics is still the Eraklyon civil war. I can't believe they actually went that far. I loved how it was a long-enduring conflict and how it depicted everyone involved not simply being able to go back to a normal life afterwards. Still boggles my mind that this made it into a Winx comic of all things.
Honestly i would love if Rainbow decided to make animated series based off of the continuity of the comics especially since it would be a great way to give older fans who want nostalgic og winx content but, don't wanna watch the reboot. Plus a lot of them would be great for one shot themed episodes. I would call the series Winx Club: A magical world of our own.
Yes! A spin-off thing like the Winx Club shorts they were planning; in the original 2d art style or something closer to it (maybe more stylised to distinguish it) animating the best of the comic stories, whilst they also carry on with their new show in the cg. Something on the side for the older fans like WoW. I know it's total wishful thinking... but a girl can dream 😝
@@talkytilki I honestly I would have it in a more anime style so it would be very poetic in a way to have the Winx paying homage to the shows that came before it.
The comic of the Mistura Infernalis is the first example that pops in my mind when we're talking about dark subjects on Winx Club comics. The story with Musa and Riven is also dark when we're thinking about the student kidnapping trafficking. And damn... I never realized how much love potions are used as magic illicit substances in the comics (there is also a love magic potion in another comic involving Roxy and her love interest!) XD
I kind of like that the guy that poisend Bloom got away with it. It is very realistic that predators got protected by society and even other women (like Icy).
While Darko's dad did pay off the police chief for the car accident. If it weren't for the fact that him and his dad were forced to skip town cause of his dad's enemies finding out where they live, he would probably have gotten his karma imo. Although, what I hate is the fact that the comic tried to insinuate that Darko isn't that bad of guy cause he had daddy issues and sincerely began to care about Icy. It doesn't matter if he's a misunderstood wretch, he crossed a line by drugging Bloom and no amount of sympathetic background will ever make me like him.
The darker elements of the comics are soemthing I hope the reboot takes inspiration from. Iginio mentioned years ago that animation's demographic was getting younger, so I hope this is something older fans can still enjoy.
08:53I mean after everything that the Trix have done in Season 1 and 2 (especially Season 1)I’m not surprised that the Winx and everyone else are giving them the cold shoulder and being cruel to them
Loved the video! I'm so glad to see someone talk about the comics, especially these ones that are especially important to me. The comics explore the world on a much deeper level and show us how big it actually is, something the show should try to take advantage of much more than it does. One thing, the comics never explicitly say the trix are blood sisters. We are only told they grew up knowing each other as well as Darko, as their babysitters brought all of them to the same park. It's really up to interpretation at the end of the day. Looking forward to part 2, I spy more comics I recognize and I am very excited to hear your take on them!
Thank you! I'm really glad you enjoyed! Magix just seems like such a nice place to live in in the comics, and I feel like that element got lost the bigger the show got, though there was a sense of it there in season 1. Hmmm... I think I got that from the fact that all three of them react the same way to the drug which implied that they are blood sisters. In the show, they are surprised when they see each other as children (in season 3), but in the comics they grew up together. So I always had it in my head that in the comics they are sisters, and in the show 'sisters' in a coven...🤔 I am very very opinionated about 'High Tide' 👀👀👀
@@talkytilki yeah! As it went on, the show kept coming back to the same locations without actually exploring them (of the girls' homeworlds we only know the royal palace in most cases, it's nothing!). The comics don't do much with Solaria or Domino either, but we get more of Zenith and Andros and A LOT of different places in Magix as well as other realms and planets. It's funny because I grew up with the comics but I didn't see that episode of s3 for the longest time (I missed it when it aired and never caught it on reruns) and still assumed they were just childhood friends. They made a big mess with that, probably unsure of what would make the better story. The result is that I like my AU more than season 8 😂 Oh High Tide is a favorite of mine! There's some weak spots there too but it makes my Icy fan heart so happy nonetheless
in Winx Club comics in the comics each Winx has a story about them Like every once in a while bloom has a comic about her And the other Winx do has a story about them There's a comic about flora and Helia how they got back together even when they got into a fightthey're even a Musa in ribbon onewhen Bloom is in their stories she doesn't get the attention as how she does in the cartoon when she does she plays a supporting friend
OK I have to say that the one where icy basically does the equivalent of dragon bloom is so fucked because punching people into voids and stealing magical power is one thing but helping someone drug somebody drug somebody else is on a whole other level. It is so out of character for icy to do because I don’t even think she would stoop that low
Great video. Even though I've only watched the original series, I appreciate the fact that Winx Club is willing to deal with darker themes to it, even if--as you pointed out--they're not always the most nuanced or most sensitively/tactfully done. It's even inspired me to make my own fanfiction continuation of the original animated series set directly after Season 4, but ignores Season 5 altogether. Glad to see another fellow Winxer still going at it. :)
I remember “Vegeance of the sea” was the first comic I picked up when I as a kid (and cuz of that comic I became a huge winx club fan) and I’m surprised that as a kid I actually picked op the darker theme of doing serious damage to the enviroment. From that comic on I started buying the comics every month (i think they came out every month) but then I found out that before vengeance of the sea there already were lots of older comics out. I was so lucky that I found almost all of them together on a flea market and I remember loving these darker comics so much😱
Also I have to add: so many characters were waaayy more developed in the comics. For example Helia. There were like 3 or 4 comics that had a continuous storyline about him. Basically there was a mission to retrieve a stone that could get people to lose their magical powers and Helia had command over the mission. But his mission failed and the stone came into the wrong hands. Helia felt extremely guilty of fucking up the mission he was in charge of. And when they were chilling in the White horse cafe people were whispering about him and his failure and he started a fight with one of the gossipers. Then the police show up and Helia admits he started the fight. That in combination with fucking up such an important mission got him severely punished by Salladin and Codatorta (even though Salladin was Helia’s grandfather in the comics) If I remember correctly Helia got kicked from Red Fountain. Flora tried to support him through it but they got in a fight where Helia told Flora “I don’t need anyone, not even you” and Flora runs away crying. Then later Helia approaches with Flora again cuz he tells her he wants to apologize and he has a plan to retrieve the stone from the maffiaboss who got it. She helps him distract Knut while he goes to steal something he jeeds from the archives of Alfea. Afterwards Flora actually catches Helia leaving in a helicopter with said Maffiaboss. She goes to investigate and sneaks onboard of the helicopter. She gets kidnapped by maffiaboss’ minions and finds out Helia was actually working together with the him and feels very betrayed by him. But then another plottwist emerges and Helia was actually not working together with the dude but infiltrating the organisation to retrieve the stone and Sky and Riven (i think) where in the conspiracy too. The reason I remember this so vividly is because Helia is one of my favorite specialists and I loved his character way more in the comics. Cuz in the show he’s like the ultimate pacifist good guy but in the comics he’s actually leaning more towards a Morally grey character (which i love) Also this storyline started with the issue called “the Shaab stone”
Honestly, I am oblivious to these dark topics when I first read them as well. And the fact that Stella almost got run over by Darko's car in said issue. Hi! Sorry, I don't always get notifications! Unfortunately, there are no good places to read the English comics online anymore :( you'll have to go on less-than-legitimate sites that are a little bit pop-up hell, but still doable. If you just search 'winx comics issue X read', then they come up. I find the comics on VK (social media site - link to masterlist in description), but there they only archive it in English if they can't find the original Italian, so it's not all of them. I don't know if you've heard that Papercutz is currently publishing new English translations of the Winx comics? But it's only 3 issues per volume and only two volumes are out at the moment.
cool :O! Can I ask u something? Where did u find these comics?? I'm interested in reading them but I don't know where to see them. I got some over the years but I don't think it's possible to buy over 1000 comics. Also I saw u found them in italian, I tried searching but I can only find them in english (I'm italian and would rather read them in italian)
hey! so, I access the Italian comics through a master-list put together by some archivists on VKontakte (a Russian-owned social media site, if you are comfortable with that.) - Winx Club Magazine| Журналы Винкс Клуб (magazine_winx). They have a master-list linked on their profile info (Список журналов). So they have put every comic in Italian and then in Russian on each link in the form of photo albums. (Where they can't find it in Italian, they put it in English.) You can view them without having an account: Just right click on the link you want and open in new tab to bypass the sign-in demand. You can also just google "Список журналов Винкс", and it is the first 'vk' link that comes up. Unfortunately, I can't put external links in the comments, but let me know if you have any issues find them, although I don't think there will be. Otherwise, comics in english (mostly fan translations) are available on a lot of less than legal sites like readcomicsonline, but it's pop-up hell. x
@@talkytilkiomg thank you for sharing this!! After watching your videos i became curious of the comics and i found them only in english up to 152 but now i can finally read them all in italian!!
Yes: She is the daughter of King Cryos of Titania. He comes to visit her at Alfea for a parent/teacher conference 🙊, and he is initially against Timmy because an algorithm decides he isn't the right partner for her. However this plot point is retconned around issue 90 (Adventure on Zenith) when Cryos is made King of Zenith with no direct relation to Tecna. This change coincides more or less with the Viacom takeover, and was probably made in order to bring the comics in line with anticipated future Nick seasons.
I'm at Musa's story and I just think that, while yes the subject matter is incredibly misplaced, it also sucks that it's the guys saving them in the end. The whole idea of fairies keeping their own ground is what used to inspire me so much because they could rely on themselves to get them out of their messes with incredible powers. And in both Bloom and Musa's story they have their boyfriends come to rescue them, which defeats the entire point imo 🧍 It's just shock content labeled as drama for kids
One of my favorite things about the Winx Club is the fact that the girls and their boyfriends, women and men, worked together as true equals. The guys weren't saving the girls all the time, just every so often. There is nothing wrong with that, as the Winx showed they were strong more often than not. It's a toxic ideology to teach girls that they have to depend on themselves all the time and not get help from someone else. We all have our limits of what we can handle and it is not wrong to get help from another whether they are male or female. And yes, this comes from a woman who grew up with the idea that I had to do everything on my own and felt getting help from a man would diminish my worth as a woman in some way. That eventual thinking led me to hate men for the longest time. If it weren't for the Winx Club (and my own brothers) I would still be stuck in that toxic way of thinking.

Also, if I end up making any content with the information, how would you like to be credited? Shall I give people your Tumblr, or perhaps you have a channel to link?
@@talkytilki ah, right, good old youtube. I'll drop my username once I'm done then!
I'll include writers too then. My tumblr will do if you eventually want to share your source, but credit isn't necessary :)
@@talkytilki here I am! The post is up, no-white-dress is the @ and The chaos room is the name of the blog. Let me know when you've found the post ^.^
hi i commented this earlier on your winx comic lore video! i just wanted to know where do you find the english versions of the comics from? 🥺🥺🙏🏻
I love this video
Otherwise, comics in english (mostly fan translations) are available on a lot of less than legal sites like readcomicsonline, but it's pop-up hell. x
@@talkytilki Thank you so much :D!!
@@talkytilkiomg thank you for sharing this!! After watching your videos i became curious of the comics and i found them only in english up to 152 but now i can finally read them all in italian!!
hi may i know where you found the english version of the comics on? 🥺🥺🙏🏻
Wait Techna is a princess in the comics?
At first not than they changed it in the movies
Yes: She is the daughter of King Cryos of Titania. He comes to visit her at Alfea for a parent/teacher conference 🙊, and he is initially against Timmy because an algorithm decides he isn't the right partner for her. However this plot point is retconned around issue 90 (Adventure on Zenith) when Cryos is made King of Zenith with no direct relation to Tecna. This change coincides more or less with the Viacom takeover, and was probably made in order to bring the comics in line with anticipated future Nick seasons.
Damn
