One of the best movies I've ever seen in my life. I first saw it as a kid on a flight to Puerto Rico, with the old fashioned big screen on the wall and stethoscope like headphones you rented from the flight attendant. Great times, sorely missed.
What a fantastic review of a great movie I have loved since I was a kid in the 80's!! I first saw this movie while on vacation in the summer of 1987 with my mother, who had seen it once already.... I was only 8 years old... I didn't fully understand the entire movie until I was a little bit older, but I even enjoyed it at age 8. I must have seen this at least 50 times or more over the years! I just saw it again for the first time in a few years, and I still love this movie! It brings back a lot of memories for me. Thanks for doing this! I have always wanted to see a behind the scenes look at the making of this movie, bloopers, deleted scenes, or even interviews of the cast at the time, but I can never find anything, unfortunately. I'd love to watch that stuff if it could be found?
I wish there was behind the scenes videos out there. However, the blu ray has a commentary with the director. It’s really good and he goes into the making of the movie, so I recommend that.
I like the movie but I haven’t thought of doing a video on it. I’m open to the possibility though. Is there a specific angle on the movie that you’d like to see explored?
@@EverydayTape nothing specific but having rewatched it lately it occurred to me just how balls out surreal it is. It’s framed like an 80s teen comedy but it’s anything but. Definitely worth a deep dive..
Really liked the movie, especially Bobby he is just super likable. I liked when he was like your chick basically sucks to Lenny when he went for Sharon (because we were all thinking it). Bobby was cool but deep down he was a guy who knew what was up, Lenny was the one who thought all the appearance of cool was what makes the man (getting "hot chicks" and cool cars). My favorite part of the movie was when Melissa cried over Lenny that was so touching, I think that was what made him realize he was just turning into a jerk. I felt bad for Emily though, she really loved Bobby and she couldn't even be with him :( I think I would just be super devastated, I don't think I could marry that other guy just too depressing to compare the two.
It’s a great movie. I think I gushed over it plenty in the video lol. It’s hard to see Lenny go the dark side for a bit-but it’s necessary for him to grow and learn, just like Bobby had to do. It was hard to see Melissa get hurt but at least they get back together in the end. When I was a kid, I just liked the stuff with Lenny and Bobby and the comedy, like “you mean, I’m smoking somebody’s lawn?!” But now I really like the love story part. Obviously lol. I hope my video inspires others to check the movie.
@@EverydayTape Yeah its hard not to root for Bobby, plus you have to love his greaser style. Bobby just seems to have such a pure heart so I think that's what really makes us love him. I sort of wish we could have seen Emily and Bobby's romance, I feel like she was more of a goody two -shoes (or is it too -shoes?) so that would have been a fun romance to watch. I feel like they were well matched, like it would have been cool to see some more flashbacks to when they were in school/first met or something.
I think it’s two-shoes lol. The casting had to be just right for Bobby. We needed someone cool but, like you said, with heart. And that’s what we get. And of course, the relationship between he and Emily needed to work and I think the actors sold it well. The fact that maybe it got you thinking about their relationship and wanting to see more, is proof that it did the job well. The tragedy of it all is what makes it memorable I think. We want them to be together but it will never happen and that stings.
@@EverydayTape yeah I definitely think Bobby really just liked Emily in school because he was surprised when Sharon was a bimbo. In that way Lenny was dumb, he had to realize that she had "no heart" probably because he was unpopular so I think he had an even bigger ego problem than what Bobby had (he was more deluded about the honor thing). Like Lenny thought that being popular and people liking him so important that he couldn't even tell Sharon was mean. Total rose colored glasses. That's why I think Bobby was always cool otherwise he would have realized how the power trip was going to go to Lenny's head. I feel like Bobby would just be the kind of guy to want to win someone like Emily over, and he would be bored with a Sharon type.
Yeah, I agree. Lenny definitely had on rose colored glasses, probably over another pair of rose colored glasses lol. That’s how skewed his vision was. But I can understand that. It can be easy to be overwhelmed by physical attraction, more so when you’re really young. I mean, it’s so obvious that Sharon is shallow and NOT the girl for him that it’s almost painful…but it’s a movie lol. Lenny had an ego problem, I agree, more so than Bobby. Maybe because all the newfound attention overwhelmed him to the point that he wasn’t thinking logically
On the blu ray commentary, the director/writer got a chance to address that plot hole, saying that the movie’s “present time” wasn’t supposed to be 1985 but earlier. The studio made that decision apparently. But it’s a great commentary. Many good good insights about the making of the movie
Ive alwayshad more respect forany man not afriad to show his emk5ions..i feel sorry for all 5hosemen 5hat think its weak to cry, etc, when the absolute opposite is true!
Dude like all of these movies were always on tv as a kid; thanks for a trip in the way back machine

I really like the movie since I saw it as a teenager. You have an interesting take on it and I mostly agree! Thanks for the video.
Awesome! Thanks, John

This actually made me cry. You are a gun. Fantastic job!👍
Thank you, Sean!
@@EverydayTape what are your thoughts on doing a ‘Better off Dead’ video?

No problem 👍
“I’ll be damed”?
Couldn’t you put that another way?
I've never seen this, but your video got me interested. Plus, Jane Kaczmarek is hot

A few people have posted the movie on UA-cam over the years, so it’s free
@@EverydayTape You're right! Thanks!
Quick follow-up, I watched the Heavenly Kid after seeing your video. Awesome movie! Thanks for the recommendation.
That’s really great! I was hoping to inspire people to check it out. Glad you liked it too. That’s a bonus 👍

catachresis: vaunted not 'vaulted' :D enjoyed the vid!
Oh! Oops lol.
Thanks for watching!
There is a big loop hole Bobby son shouldn't be in high school In 1985 . He be way too old for Bobby to die in the early 50s

Isnt the first bit set in the early 60s
Sure is
