Love how there wasn’t some sort of grand build-up or reveal. Each shot and transition carefully crafted to do justice to all these films. Such a humble yet powerful ending as well. The way you draw out their beauty and your love for the cinematic form is truly inspiring!! ❤️
The Fall - Se7en - The Dark Knight - 2001 - Blade Runner sequence is magnificent. Every transition is masterful and the music hits all the right spots.

To be honest, I haven’t watched most of these and am just now getting into film, but this is gorgeous and is inspiring me to watch them. Seriously so well done 💜
@@shivanshtomar18 Can't speak for them, but I've been at it for a little over a year now: I'm a lot less picky about the movies I watch now, actually. As my "eye" has improved, I've found I can appreciate basically any film and what it's trying. That doesn't mean I have to be a fan of the films, but it does mean I have a greater understanding and nuance towards the films I watch now. That said, I have yet to find a video game adaptation that isn't downright weird or legitimately attempts to pay respectful homage to its source material; it's like a director gets a video game film and they check out completely. As funny as it is, I have quite literally become the one person in the friend ground that has a random black and white film on the TV whenever you come over.

What a beautiful way to do a Top 100 list! Thank you for taking the time to make this and share it with us 🙏🏻 I’d love to do one of these myself one day
Jacob's Ladder - when the chiropractor explains how we can see our personal demons as angels - just by shifting our perspective we can choose not to be afraid - is probably the single most influential thing I've watched/heard in a movie
I love the title "100 Films That Changed My Life" instead of the regular boring top 20. Your list allowed us to peek into your soul. Having both Interstellar and Arrival on your list tells me we have something in common. Interstellar's docking scene was so damn gooooood!
@@AndreasIreland - Well, not sure what you are into. I can offer up a few from a few that are not mainstream. These three films are from my favorite filmmakers: Another Earth (sci-fi), The East (drama), and I Origins (kind of sci-fi, romance, drama). Mike Cahill, Brit Marling, and Zal Batmanglij all met at Georgetown and collaborated on several projects after graduation. The series The OA is another from them.
This list needs: Naked Blue is the Warmest Color Apocalypse Now Anything by Harmony Korine American Honey Eternal Sunshine Upstream Color Good Will Hunting Wendy and Lucy Alien(s) The Lobster The Master Princess Mononoke Manchester by the Sea Leon The Professional Under the Skin Beginners Whiplash The Matrix Last life in the Universe Noi the Albino Stroszek The Enigma of Kaspar Hauser Head-On City of God Amadeus Just off the top of my head. Great list though. I agree with most of it and would say I haven’t seen about 1/4th of these. Good mix of well known and more obscure films.
Thanks for an incredible journey and a great edit here. Excellent work and thank you so much for sharing your opinions, your true self, and all of the recommendations along the way. I look forward to your future as a filmmaker and will stay tuned to The Dance Of Cinema as long as it shall live! Thank you!
I can see the passion and the effort that you put in your video and in general in the list, while simultaneously focusing on movies from 21st century. I can understand that it is a more "personal" list than for example "the 100 best movies of all times" and I really admire it, although most of the movies that you used would not ever in my list. But, you have directors like Angelopoulos, Miyazaki, Kubrick who are my most beloved ones, so thanks again for this video!
I was losing my shit when you placed the force awakens at 21 then , i saw the top 15. You are goated for placing interstellar at 14 , most of the cinephile community hates it but we goddamn love it No country for old men is a masterpiece Children of men another classic. Tree of life is simply the most beautiful movie i have ever seen. True visual poetry.havent seen the japanese/asian films , because i have a lot of catching up to do.
Thank you for the list. I had seen many videos with favourite 50 movies but I had usually seen 45-48 movies out of them. This list had around 25-30 movies that I never even heard of which looks truly great.
I would like to thank you for making this beautiful video. Its a small peak into who you are. The films tell a story presented this way that give a glance of your inner self. The transitions and music choices really invoke an emotional response as a viewer. Definitely seems like a very personal video for someone who has grown up loving all aspects of film making. A very well done inner piece of self exploration. Its not about the films being good or bad or better then others per say. Its more about how you felt watching them or moments in them and the feelings you connect with. The things that you take away after watching them. The emotions and meaning that you find in them. Personal Indeed.
This is so beautifully made, and has definitely given me a few films to add to my watch list. And I was so happy to see Maborosi at number 1, I've never met anyone else who loves that film as much as I do. It might be my number 1 too, although Stalker and Kiki's Delivery Service are pretty close.
Honestly, I’ve never heard of Maborosi or Kore-eda before seeing this video, but I decided to give it a try. And yeah. It was the most impactful thing I’ve ever watched. Just in the first 5 to 10 minutes I could already tell that this will be so unlike anything else I’ve seen before, and how much I’ll love it. It’s just this way of presenting the story, the wide angle shots from far away, amazingly slow pace, lack of dialogue, it’s all just so masterfully done.

I haven't seen many of these but burning is one of my favourite films ever, glad you included it on your list. I'll definitely be coming back to this to check some of these out.
"Life is not a competition". With that in mind I must say: this is the best movie list I have ever seen so far. Beautifully done, a masterful edition and don't even get me started on the score.
A stellar list, brilliantly presented. It makes it so clear that cinema, when passionately made, makes us see and think so much further than the surface of a form.
This is a beautifully done edit and transition. I loved the various parts where he transitioned from one movie to another. This is truly a collection of some underappreciated, aesthetically pleasing and thought provoking movies and some of them being famous because how great they are. Amazing work Bruce!
I’m embarrassed to say that I have seen less than half of these films, but I shall make it my mission to search out and find as many as I can. Thank you for this wonderful list.
Great montage. Tree of Life is a life-changing film. Glad to see it was #3. Malick's A Hidden Life and The New World should get some honorable mentions, too.
Force Awakens? At 21. Oh God. I recall not seeing any of Scorsese’ filmography apart from Silence which is probably my least favourite that I’ve seen from him. It was refreshing to see a good amount of foreign film in there, especially Kuroasawa. There also seemed like a good portion of your choices were relationship based.
Exactly this, good list except for the Force Awakens being so high. Makes no sense as it’s objectively a garbage movie like all of the sequels. I like the Kurosawa and Tarkovsky love though
Well, I've occasionally thought of myself as a bit of a student of film. After seeing your display of films, I can now place myself as maybe having taken Film 101 and registering for Film 102. I'm impressed that I can list having seen more of "your" films than I can count on my fingers, but not many more. Kudos to the greatest of all action/drama films, Kurosawa's "Seven Samurai" at #2.
movies i'd recommend you: like father, like son (soshite chichi ni naru) the eternal zero (eien no zero) barefoot gen (hadashi no gen) step (suteppu) whiplash requiem for a dream
I’ve seen a lot of incredible movies and still haven’t grazed the surface. Half of the movies on this list are on my watchlist. Terrence Malick and Andrei Tarkovsky I’ve yet to touch and I can’t wait.
What (another) great way of sharing your Top 100 Films 🤩. The edits and transitions are incredible. It is exciting to watch your list unfold and even though its order is known (from instagram) the "moving images" do their magic and are enthralling. ...and it makes you (me) want to (re)watch quite a number of Films. So thanks 🙏 and keep on dancing 💃
What I love about this list is that every movie passionate can acknowledge the quality of the selection and also think about other films that are not in the list!
A clarification on why/how these movies changed your life would be nice! I love many of these movies, but wouldn't say they impacted my life really. Just curious! :)
I rhink that was what these videos mean. 100 favourite movies. It just makes for a much better title to write " Chnaged my life" bcoz ppl are looking for change their lives and they click.
i’ve only seen a couple of the movies in this video but they for sure changed my life. I carry the experience of seeing them with me every day. Of course not always in my mind, but always with me somehow. That qualifies as changing a life, doesn’t it? also the title is “100 movies that changed MY life”, not “100 movies that will change YOUR life”. Everyone experiences movies differently with different perspectives so a movie can be life changing for one person and not for another, but i think that’s pretty amazing

Probably watched about 75% of the movies on your luminous list. Need to fill that Kore-eda 'hole' though. Only watched 'Shoplifters' and loved it. Beautiful stuff. Thanks!
if each movie is your standard 90 minute length (there is likely a much higher average here considering the films on this list) we would get 9000 minutes / 150 hours of watch time its been 2 years but if you have actually watched most of these im proud of you
Interesting that’s for sure…I’ve watched 60% of your list including of your Kurosawa selections. I’d be fascinated how this list changes in 10yrs…no “Citizen Kane” or Lawrence of arabia, Hitchcock or spaghetti westerns, true American western by director John Ford. Criminal underground movies like The Godfather, or even “the killer” by John Woo, one of my favorite Chow yun-fat movies…there are a lot of movies out there to see and experience
I mean it's impossible to make an exhaustive list, but for sure there's a lot of movies missing. When I saw The force awakens at the 20 rank, I knew it was a list that can't be reliable.
@@Mathis_Benj well, the person say “movies that changed his life “ so I’m assuming the person is young…still it’s an interesting list and would like to see it compared to 10yrs from now.
@@Physics_Dude not exactly sure what you mean by this response…I mean why bother but what I don’t expect much from random people…I know it can be difficult to put more than two words together…English is like that…I stand behind my comment…there are a lot of (great) movies to watch and if this dude watches more…I genuinely wonder how and if this list will change.
@@garyb2392 - You said, "So I’m assuming the person is young." You sound like a geriatric with his stick up his ass. "OK, Boomer" is a pejorative aimed at people stuck in the past thinking their world was better. So listen up, Boomer: most of the best films came out in the 2000s. The older films were misogynist, had racist tropes, had primarily white men in all production decisions, and did NOT reflect the art of humanity. Is that better, gramps? You asked for "More than two words together." So there you go! What a great slaying of the paper dragon (you). [before you cry, remember that you started the agism by saying "I'm assuming the person is young." So you just earned that slaying. Better be more thoughtful next time!] This public service announcement is brought to you by Good Will Hunting. He's bringing his kill home.
Whoa. I am humbled that you included ‘Still Walking’ on your list. Hirokazu Koreeda is my favorite director and ‘I Wish’ is my favorite film, but Still Walking is my 2nd favorite.
obviously his 100 favorite movies but it still surprises me that no one in all the videos I watched has mentioned a single movie by Charles Chaplin, and even mentioning Alfred Hitchcock who are contemporaries, I say Chaplin has many good movies like The Great Dictator, Modern Times, the kid and several more. It is also what I think I clarify.
Superb list. I kept waiting for Wings Of Desire and a few others as we seem to have similar tastes but never mind, you did a beautiful job putting that together. Thank you.
Father with Anthony Hopkins was a movie that really moved me. Makes you think of the reality of growing old and what that entails and the problems that come with it
@@nathanakpe4897 I disagree Japanese movies haven't always been good, especially not Japanese movies of the last 20 years. A big complaint about Japanese live action movies but especially Japanese live action TV shows is that they're too melodramatic or feature overacting that can lean towards cringe. That's why a lot of Asians and Westerners that like Asian media prefer Korean live action movies & TV show, their acting is more natural, closer to Americans and Europeans.
That transition from Luke to Landscape in the mist is STUNNING, I can't

Love how there wasn’t some sort of grand build-up or reveal. Each shot and transition carefully crafted to do justice to all these films. Such a humble yet powerful ending as well. The way you draw out their beauty and your love for the cinematic form is truly inspiring!! ❤️
Thank you so much!!!
The Fall - Se7en - The Dark Knight - 2001 - Blade Runner sequence is magnificent. Every transition is masterful and the music hits all the right spots.
Thank you so much!
song on that part?
The Fall.. thats the one narrated by a little kid right? i hated that.. ashame cos the colours of the film were nice.
Blade runner sequence was an ad lib too!
It’s so refreshing to finally see a list like this that isn’t afraid of foreign cinema.
bro you can not say foreign if u don't even say from where you're coming from ... I guess ur from the us
It’s cinema. Just cinema.
@@cyrils7957 there’s numerous countries represented here so regardless the comment stands

Any noticeable change after diving into films for a year?

Thank you for taking the time to make this and share it with us 🙏🏻 I’d love to do one of these myself one day
That would be awesome :)
You sound bored 😅
I love the intimate detail and thoughtfulness of this list. Beautiful and thank you for sharing.

Welcome from Instagram :)
Honestly just can't stop rewatching this one. It's really beautiful and makes me wanna watch more movies
Thanks for an incredible journey and a great edit here. Excellent work and thank you so much for sharing your opinions, your true self, and all of the recommendations along the way. I look forward to your future as a filmmaker and will stay tuned to The Dance Of Cinema as long as it shall live! Thank you!
This made my day. Thank you Nathan! Long live TDOC!
What are the soundtracks you used? I don’t know the name of any of these songs but they’re beautiful
I was losing my shit when you placed the force awakens at 21 then , i saw the top 15.
You are goated for placing interstellar at 14 , most of the cinephile community hates it but we goddamn love it
No country for old men is a masterpiece
Children of men another classic.
Tree of life is simply the most beautiful movie i have ever seen. True visual poetry.havent seen the japanese/asian films , because i have a lot of catching up to do.
Hey Bruce BRAVO!! Can you send me the list of soundtracks used to compile this wonderful montage.
Thank you for the list.
I had seen many videos with favourite 50 movies but I had usually seen 45-48 movies out of them.
This list had around 25-30 movies that I never even heard of which looks truly great.
Amazing edit!!! I love watching this list unfold. I looked forward to every entry. Can't wait to see what's to come for the page!
Thanks so much Diego
It’s just this way of presenting the story, the wide angle shots from far away, amazingly slow pace, lack of dialogue, it’s all just so masterfully done.
i'll try to watch all these movies

Incredible list!
Always nice to see other people showing some love for Theo Angelopoulos movies!
Thank you!! Yes! He's one of my 10 favorite filmmakers of all time.
Very good list, I add also Mr Nobody!! What a movie!!! It changed my life
I’m embarrassed to say that I have seen less than half of these films, but I shall make it my mission to search out and find as many as I can. Thank you for this wonderful list.
Remarkable list, there are more than 20 I haven't yet seen so I will make sure and look for them
Great montage. Tree of Life is a life-changing film. Glad to see it was #3. Malick's A Hidden Life and The New World should get some honorable mentions, too.
Saw both on the big screen - A Hidden Life at Telluride Film Fest. Absolutely rapturous and beautiful.

Wow, this is a Masterpiece!
loved the whole instrumental soundtrack effecting the narrative, wish there was a way we could check the soundtrack
'Objectively a garbage movie'... One man's trash is another man's treasure. Nothing objective about it.
Bro you didn't had to put so much hard work in a "movies recommendation" video. RESPECT ❤️
I hope you find many more films to appreciate from this list! Thanks for watching.
The amount of effort that must have gone into this is mind blowing. 👏👏👏

What an inspiring list! I would recommend “Naked Island(裸の島)” by Kaneto Shindo, if you haven’t watched yet!
The Three color trilogy is something so very special and unique. Absolutely beautiful
Everyone experiences movies differently with different perspectives so a movie can be life changing for one person and not for another, but i think that’s pretty amazing
the first 20 movies make sens then its a bit random

Great list! half of the movies in this video I've already seen, thanks for sharing!
Wow, what a journey. Never heard of this person but what talent really. I can tell how deeply he feels about composition and storytelling just by looking at this. It made me feel so many things that are just waiting to be told in the background by looking openly at the photography and nuance. This is an amazing video
I LOVE your list. I would have added "Come and See." Seven Samurai is a must on anyone's list.
Tetsuya-san, would you be kind enough to share the BGM list that you used for tbis video?
All these music are epic!
Ok maybe I am too greedy. All I ask for is the song name of the first 6 minutes. Please...
@@andrewtee Wonder by Tristan Barton
@@siick6to237 thank you very much!
I think i really have to see Spirited Away, I’ve never watched it before and people always tell me it’s seriously amazing.
My daughter has started a relationship with someone who has never watched a movie. This concerns me. The depth, compassion, passion, and meaning in your life as presented here, has to be missing in someone who is not enthralled with film.
I'm so sorry to feel your concern, my sons would find this quite shocking
the lack of Oldboy saddens me but what an awesome montage
What about Fight club, Abyss, Beach, Trainspotting, Alien, Silent hill, Room 1408, True lies?
How stupid are these comments...?!! It's a personal list people!!!!
Thanks for making this. Brought back a whole lot of memories when i watched these films and how they moved me.

Wonderful editing, great collection, marvelous…thank you🙏🏻
You are the one who changed your life. These movies were just motivation.
Probably watched about 75% of the movies on your luminous list. Need to fill that Kore-eda 'hole' though. Only watched 'Shoplifters' and loved it. Beautiful stuff. Thanks!
It is now my persoanal goal to watch every movie on this list, wonderful edit as well.
Thank you Shane! Means a lot - I hope you get to see them all!
if each movie is your standard 90 minute length (there is likely a much higher average here considering the films on this list) we would get 9000 minutes / 150 hours of watch time
its been 2 years but if you have actually watched most of these im proud of you
Absolutely mesmerizing montage! I enjoyed every second of seeing this list unfold! Inspiring edits and wonderfully curated!
@@garyb2392 - Okay, Boomer.
Better be more thoughtful next time!]
This public service announcement is brought to you by Good Will Hunting. He's bringing his kill home.
Stunning, beautiful … a great list
Few I was not aware of immediately added to my list to see. Thank you
Where's Lynch and Coppola?
Yep every damn underworld flick inspired by Coppola masterpiece, that theme music feels like another level ♥️
Burning, Victoria, Shoplifters... man, what a great list of fantastic films.
5 films that genuinely changed my life:
A River Runs Through It
Dunkirk
Dazed and Confused
Beautiful Boy
Empire Records
The Force Awakens caught me off guard man. Inspiring list though!
14:00 hell na
Top notch editing my friend
can we please apreciate Maborosi?
Always.
Whoa. I am humbled that you included ‘Still Walking’ on your list. Hirokazu Koreeda is my favorite director and ‘I Wish’ is my favorite film, but Still Walking is my 2nd favorite.
Does anyone know the names of these songs???
Yup it's Wonder by Tristan Barton, 2 months later wish could be here sooner lol
The Garden of Love by Shahead Mostafafar is the song from the 9 minute
obviously his 100 favorite movies but it still surprises me that no one in all the videos I watched has mentioned a single movie by Charles Chaplin, and even mentioning Alfred Hitchcock who are contemporaries, I say Chaplin has many good movies like The Great Dictator, Modern Times, the kid and several more.
It is also what I think I clarify.
Fight club?
Superb list. I kept waiting for Wings Of Desire and a few others as we seem to have similar tastes but never mind, you did a beautiful job putting that together. Thank you.
This guy’s easily impressed.
Father with Anthony Hopkins was a movie that really moved me. Makes you think of the reality of growing old and what that entails and the problems that come with it
How tf did the force awekens change your life xD
Loved this man... have seen half of them. Bit surprised to see maborosi on one. Very underrated film. Always loved it.
Of course the movies that changed your life most are Japanese movies, being a Japanese yourself.
Japanese movies have always been good along with french movies so what is your point
