I've been using the Blue yeti for about 2 months now for my UA-cam channel, it's fantastic, it is exactly what every UA-camr needs to start recording high quality
I know I'm watching these years later but I've, recently, bought a Blue Yeti, for some projects I'll working on, due to boredom during California lockdown. Thanks for the rundown on this mic, Jayz! It was amazingly clear and straightforward! Now, I feel confident going into this first project! The only think I'll need is a shock mount, which I'll be getting soon!
Thanks for creating a video like this! It's very explanatory and clear! I thought that I had to talk above the mic , but you made me realize that I have to talk to the label! Awesome !
Great review Jay! I learned so many new things that I didn't even hear about the Blue Yeti like you being able to hear your own computer sounds through the Blue Yeti and to avoid speaking to the top of the microphone (which is surprising seeing how many Blue Yeti reviews there are, step it up like Jay has you guys).
This has to be one of the finest UA-cam videos I have ever watched ... regardless of subject!!! Absolute class, everything I needed to know! Many thanks!
Thank you for such a valuable review! I’ve had this mic for a year now and actually considered getting rid of it because it wasn’t sounding as good as the reviews on it. Thankfully, I’ll try to readjust some settings and the gain levels to fix it.
The Blue Yeti and Audio-Technica AT2020 are fantastic mics... But for gaming youtube, streaming purposes I think there are other "better" solutions. Studio condensers are great for picking up a wide range of frequency ranges but require a proper environment to be utilized fully... My favorite type of microphone are dynamic especially if you want that professional radio/podcaster sound, that all commentary creators should seek. Problem with dynamic is you need them close to the sound source to pick up the sound of the talent, but it's useful for gaming environments since most do not have a studio set up to block/absorb room echoes. If you are into talking head videos and don't want a mic in camera, a condenser is still not the best because to pick up your voice you will have to turn the gain up considerably and the further you get from it, with the increased gain it will pick up EVERYTHING. For those type of videos a Lav like a Giant Squid hooked up to a Zoom H1 would be better, or if there are multiple people in a shot, then a shotgun mic might be prefered over a Yeti or an AT2020. Another thing to consider with these all in one usb mics, is that if you do livestreaming, the audio interface that is built in will limit you greatly as far as effects that a lot of youtubers add to their voice in post to give them a more desirable sound. Picking up a XLR mic with a small mixer that allows you to add compression, adjust the highs mids and lows with a low cut filter would be ideal. And once you get your setting in correctly, you can keep them there and no matter if you're recording for a youtube video for editing or a stream you can be ensured that your voice will stay constant. Just my two cents when it comes to mic choice.
Helpful video. Thank you. For being interviewed online by podcasters, I've made my own pop-filter from a bent wire clothes hanger covered with a nylon knee-high stocking. Works great. I use the Blue yeti mostly in upside-down heart mode. Have a walk-in bedroom closet full of clothes? A fantastic place for recording. For several years I did a one-person podcast, reading my own stories: Welcome to my Bedroom Closet.
Blue Yeti is my first microphone and watching this video many times gives a good impression. Going to be streaming SSBU on the Nintendo Switch on Twitch and UA-cam soon in 2021.
I’m going straight to Walmart and buying it ASAP tomorrow. Could’ve bought it last week but I wanted to do further research. You gave the most insight sir
My dude ty so much seriously! like I hate to read whoever made Blue Yeti should of had a tutorial like this that work for the company it sucks that you have to spend so many hours to understand a product if you have a short attention span you got straight to the point in the intro and did not beg for subs nor mention any sponsors!!!!! U just Earn a sub TY so mUch!
When I record with my blue yeti and use bandicam too record my game and voice at once (they become 1 audio file) but i always sound so quiet ;-; why is that?i have been using the first setting but now ima switch it too the third, what else can I do?
+VioletRose ❅ I have always recorded my voice and gameplay separately. Use Audacity for you mic. Count down from 3 then hit your Fraps/Bandicam/Shadowplay recording button and when you're done you can cut out the part where you said 3,2,1. Sometimes you may even be able to hear yourself hitting the recording button, making it even easier to sync your voice to the video
Thanks so much - I just received this mic as a Christmas present and wanted something short and to the point to help me get started with it. This was perfect!
I am really confused. It sounded pretty decent for you yet it sounds like total shit for me with this ongoing "pshhhh" sound. Is it because I have buzzing pc right under it?
Ram Kitten thats right, and the buzzing might be echoing as well. A good solution is to change around your setup and look into purchasing some acoustic wall panels, or move into a smaller room.
Ram Kitten 2 years late but there is a mic sensitivity on the back of it and maybe if you lower it you’ll be alright but maybe you’ll need the mudder to the yeti
Great video - but what microphone are you using to record the majority of the audio in this video? You seem to be able to talk freely without having to speak directly into a microphone.
Mark McKay i don’t think he recorded this particular video with the yeti entirely, but the yeti is able to record from any direction since it counts with three microphones inside. That’s why they use it a lot in interviews and podcasts
Perhaps. I'm just curious because I have Yeti and yet sound quality isn't nearly as good as this unless I speak directly into the thing. I'm not sure if its set up wrong or if it's not as capable as other mics. @@RIIXER
This is a great video. I have used a Blue Yeti for 3 or 4 years and love it. When people ask me how I do my recordings I will include this video in my answer from now on.
Thanks for the demo. I've had the Yeti for a while and I routinely use it for zoom meetings but was interested in using it for music playing and was wondering if it's possible to use it for musical performance recording like ukulele, harmonica and guitar. I need to get spun up quickly with audacity tho. I purchased mine from a blogger for $50.
i was wondering if anyone can help me, i plan on getting a blue yeti mainly for gaming and every so often streaming. my question is what is a good sound headset i should get for the blue yeti that will work good with it? itll all just be mainly used for playing games and being in skype calls etc etc,
+Musical Prodigy1388 I would highly recommend Audio-Technica ATH-M50X. Awesome sound quality i'm really liking it :) It is without microphone so it really works well with blue yeti.
ok thank you, appreciate it! ive posted this same comment in a few videos and have had all comments telling me to get that same exact ones. thank you. ill probably get those for sure with the blue yeti
+Musical Prodigy1388 about half a year a go I was given a pair of Gamecom 788. Fantastic pair of headphones (it does Come with its own mic which can be helpful for just Skype etc). I've used it and it's very nice. Using it for my videos has been great but a yeti will make a difference. If you've got a headset that's good then sorry for wasting your time :)

I went to my computer's "Devices and Printers" section to try to select this, but I am not getting anywhere. So, what am I doing wrong? It would be helpful to see how to actually set this up.
Ok so- get things started plug it in. Head to the bottom right with the speaker symbol and right click. Hit recording (I don't remember it perfectly) devices? It should be there. If not make sure that there is no start up guides in the box and as a last resort head onto Google and search blue yeti driver. Install it and then restart the computer. Plug the yeti in and then start up audacity. It should be there. If not I have no clue since most microphones I have used I haven't had much of an issue with. Once i get it I'll comment back to ya.
I need help somebody please! I have the blue yeti mic but it's picking up the audio somehow and I don't know how to the point where it echoes in my stream. I don't have multiple streams up, I have headphones plugged in so I don't know how it is echoing my stuff.
