    I wish Linus had pointed out that the headphone jack is not only a mic monitor, but also a sound card allowing you to use your studio headphones with your mic, and also hear all sound on your PC... this is a HUGE deal for game streamers, and deserved at least a mention.

    For some reason when I record myself on the Yeti I sound like i'm muffled or in a jar. I have it set to the best settings, I placed it in various locations to try and see if it made a difference and it all ended with the same result of my audio just sounding very crappy compared to many of the blue yeti recordings that I have heard on youtube. Could it be my soundcard? I also noticed that many of my other mics that I bought (over50$) sounded terrible too whereas the only mic that sounds crisp and clear is a 20 dollar logitech mic that I own.

    • @Montisaquadeis
      @Montisaquadeis 8 років тому +6

      +Hellscream A Mic like these COMPLETELY BYPASSES the sound card on ANY PC. The room also plays a a good part in how a mic sounds as well so try tossing up a blanket on the wall and a rug under the desk/chair if you have hardwood floors int he room. Those can make a LARGE difference in how a mic sounds. This goes for anyone who might be reading this.

    Razer Seiren or Blue Yeti?! I don't know! HELP!
    I'm a huge Razer fan and I have their mic, keyboard, speaker, headphones but the Seiren sounds the same and a little pricey than the Yeti. Seiren looks small and sleek where else the Yeti is huge (that's what she said). From where I'm buying the Yeti doesn't have warranty but the Seiren does. Need answers! Thanks.

    • @zmatedragon
      @zmatedragon 8 років тому

      I mean if you want actual audio quality, go get an XLR mic with an audio interface. My guess is you don't need one, so go get the Blue Yeti as a toy. It's will not be very useful in professional settings however, so keep that in mind.

    • @shadowychaos
      @shadowychaos 8 років тому +7

      Not entirely true. I know a voice actress who used a Blue Yeti for the longest and she did work for some pretty big game companies. The Yeti can function for things such as VA, so don't be mislead.

    It's funny. I just started researching the Yeti Pro on a whim 10 minutes ago, and here you've JUST uploaded a video on it.
    LTT is in my brain!
    I'm an audio engineer who's go-to recording chain is well over $3,000 (MXL Genesis II into a Universal Audio 710d into Pro Tools/Sonar...) which unsurprisingly sounds spectacular.
    But I've been looking for a USB mic to throw in my backpack with my laptop to do an adequate VO or instrument dub on-the-go. And dare I say, that Yeti Pro sounds great!
    Thanks for the review gentleman!

      ***** SM7B does sound a muffled sometimes, but I said that because it's a broadcast standard, with the SM7B you need a good pre-amp. If your rich and or crazy just commentate with a Neumann U87, haha. There is actually a let's player who does use that though...

    Not sure about the new motto haha, sounds a bit... controlling. Peeps should be given the facts so that they can decide for themselves whether they like a product or not, rather than told that they should. As you mostly give facts, it might be better to word it a little differently.

      The phrase under the logo changes nearly every video. The CableMod C-Series vid says "Speaking of...", The Myo's says "Luke is sick in this one :(", the LG 31MU97's says "Do as we say, not as we do", and so on. As far as I can tell, they're mostly inside jokes and silly anecdotes, rather than business slogans of any kind. Though it may be a bit strange for a person watching a single video instead of being subscribed to the channel as a whole.

    As per usual Linus delivers another good, short and informative review that contains most information you would want.
    As someone who started recording on a budget, I was very interested by the blue yeti. It's got many feature you'd want, acts as an external AMP/DAC delivers good sound and is, subjectively, good looking. However I discovered a HUGE downside to it that ended up with taking it off my list.
    This microphone simply won't fit into any third party shock mount I could find. Blue does offer, for a shocking 60€!, a mount that is, frankly, useless.
    My conclusion for the yeti is therefore as follow: it's a very good mic, perfect for voice-over, podcasting and streaming, BUT it can NOT sit on the desk you'll be using. This kills it for podcasting, for me, with my cherry blue keyboard.
    As an alternative I would recommend the AT2020 USB+, not as good value for the money, but is compatible with many, affordable or even cheap, shockmounts.

    Razer vs Blue va Blue. 3 bad mic's. The only reason Blue brand mic's are so popular is because they sound a lot better than a headset mic. But go ask any professional voice actor or radio host their opinion on Blue brand mic's. They're bad compared to a proper professional solution like AT4050

    • @LinusTechTips
      @LinusTechTips  9 років тому +621

      That mic costs several times more. It's a completely irrelevant comparison...

    • @Jhariah
      @Jhariah 9 років тому +100

      So your logic is that if there are better mics then these suck? These are all great sounding mics and could easily be used for certain professional situations. Obviously there are better mics. All of these are under 250.

    • @E36M3IV
      @E36M3IV 9 років тому +16

      YOU COMPLETE IDIOT. The reviews here are for what the typical person is looking for. When you go buy a microphone you dont want to sky rocket that far up. You start with something else, see if you like it or not. If you want to review look it up and stop putting shitty comments on videos because you're upset.

    • @DapperDanLovesYou
      @DapperDanLovesYou 9 років тому

      ***** The issue is that people are buying these giant microphones for voice over/ podcasting/ narration and they really aren't meant for that. These microphones all use 3 small diaphragm condensers, when in reality you'd be much better off using a single *large* diaphragm condenser. LDC's offer better low frequency response, with a less harsh top end.
      There are several USB LDC's for the same price as those in this video, which offer better quality in nearly every aspect.
      The better analogy would be someone buying a cheap CPU and trying to run it as a GPU; it's just not meant for that function and an equally priced GPU would serve you much better.

    A good video with decent comparisons. Considering that I need a new mic for my rig, using your input, I'll just need to get the yeti blackout because I don't need the great mic quality the pro affords. I also plan on getting a swingarm deskclamp mount for the mic as having it sit above my monitors but out of frame will be perfect for pickups.
    Thanks for the review Linus!

    I like that instead of part 1, part 2, etc you've switched to a part 1A, part 1B, etc style.
    But de-simplify it further. Part 1A, Part 1A.2, Part 1A.2-2, etc.
