Something he does that I don't think he notices he does or hasn't mentioned yet, is instead of what a lot of artists normally do: feel disheartened if they test something and they don't like it, he instead shows that even if it's not what he wants to go with, he still acknowledges that it looks awesome which keeps drawing fun. A good example of this was when he used his assets to find a background he liked. He ended up going with the stars, but he still tested different things and although he went with his first idea, it was still fun to explore and test.
i started drawing Disney char's in the 60s and went on to charlie brown and snoopy ended up hand-painting signs for business's when i was 13 then moved to tattooing when i was 16 wasnt until i was in my mid 30s i went to art college now I'm moving into digital arts at 60 cant wait for my xp-pen 22r pro to get here
Still can't believe that all of this is free, also I like the way how good you explain everything. Many tutorials and masterclasses are way too complicated...
Just realized that he used basically red and blue for the skin, and I'm totally blown up. Also, I feel like I'll have to watch this at least two more times to get all I can from it, cause it just feels like there's new tips and information in every minute of the video
I remember that when I was younger, I loved drawing trash cans. I don’t know why, I just loved the roundness. And I’m talking classic cartoon trash cans. The tin ones with the saucer cover. Those were so fun to draw
13:15 He literally just summed up every paint brush tutorial with a few sentences. This saved me from worrying about downloading a whole library of paintbrushes thanks Ross!
If you really want to learn basic techniques -- this channel is really very good. Thank yoouuuuuu. I've learned a lot from you than all of the other tutorials that I've listened to.
This is some kind of an art teacher that I sooooo badly wanted. 😍🙈 Not those in schools who were like "Okay class, research about bla bla bla bla bla." and we were like "here we go again" *rolls eyes*
I've just discovered this series and I can tell this is the right intermediate to advanced level of info that I've always been seeking since literally 90% of the videos and tutorials out there is for beginner level. Thank you so much for this awesome seires
UA-camrs are sometimes better than some professors in art schools. I'm an art student and our art professors doesn't really teach us lol They show us samples of what to do, give us a deadline and boom just do it, they won't even really teach you 😂 Though there are also some professors who help their students with some techniques, but it was literally just a "little" help. Not that I'm complaining, but every student have different skill levels. I just hope they pay more attention to their students 😂 Oh and one more, most of them don't have the word "inspiration" in their vocabulary haha At least artists in youtube they help you get inspired and teaches you that "mistakes are just happy accidents."
I kept seeing people post about this online, and thought another artist had started charging their fans for lessons (not that that is always a bad thing!), but then I learned it was free! This is amazing!
I just discovered your videos. Are you're honestly such a saver. I have so much motivation to become an animator in the futur as my job. And I always had a bit of hard times with tutorials that do not explain really well. But yours are incredible! I weirdly feel like, I'm actually CAPABLE of drawing well if I try hard enough and listen carefully! My holidays are coming in about a month and I know I'm gonna spend all of it on practicing drawing! Thank you so much for making this free, and your art is just gorgeous. ♡
Maybe this is coming late but i'm gonna say it. What I think is important for youngsters is that they should get a good hold of the basics, I mean like practice forms daily for a month if needed. the thing is you want to be good at it not just capable of it! Good luck for you.
I'm a chilean professional illustrator for many years, but nowadays I'm changing my art, looking for new horizons, and the most important, no more lineart in my life haha It has always been difficult for me to eliminate the lineart and do something more "realistic", your videos are of great help for me, I can observe the technique that you use and try to improve, really Muchas gracias amigo!
Hii.. I'm starting as *ILLUSTRATOR*.. I bought a drawing tablet too.. can I geT away with a i7 processor or do I need to buy graphic GTX 1050.. But.. graphic laptops are really heavy.. please do suggest Which kind of laptop is necessary💛
The thing I remember that I loved drawing was the Power Puff Girls. My mom kept all of my drawings in a folder from when I was 6 and whenever I go back and look at all the Blossoms, Bubbles, and Buttercups I drew it makes me cry tears of joy.♡
Oh my gosh that is exactly how it was for me. I had an old drawing of the girls and the professor and I was proud of it. I thank cartoon Network for my desire to draw.
Man I really like your tutorials, they really show the complete process involved with doing something and don’t just focus on the drawing itself but also shows everything else that can help you improve your art. You are a great teacher!
Ikr he explains everything so well without beating around the bush, and he ensures that even beginners would understand, and giving tips. Most Tutorials don't help me because they think I am professional enough to know shading and lighting, so I am really happy when Ross explained about how light works. It's really dedication and effort
when Ross teaches about the brush softness, remember that if your round brush isn't with the "transfer" option selected it won't gain the same smooth/blending characteristic he shows. :) great video btw
Main things I learned from this video: • I should use references more and more references when I do. • A better order of drawing things than the one I was trying to use before. • High pass. I knew what it is and how it works (too well perhaps) but had no idea how useful it is for drawing. I know it's an old video, but thank you, Ross.
I feel like in every art tutorial video I watch, there's a point where I feel skill levels jump from 8 to 80. But seriously though, loved the vid, ty so much!
I am an old guy that used semitransparant paper for sketching, airbrush with adhesive plastic that was cut with a scalpel. The highlights were added with a thin brush. I think few people understand how much practise it takes to make a sketch with everything in their right places. I would like to advice everyone to have a small sketchbook and a pen with them when waiting for the bus, sitting at a cafe looking at people, to use all that waiting that we all have to do, and put it into something useful. I can promise you that it will pay off at the screen!
the first thing i remember to draw when i was young was the anime DRAGON BALL. i started to draw anime, but now i draw realistic portraits. thank you for the tips Ross draw. stay safe and healthy.
I loved drawing Sonic the Hedgehog. I'm studying Computer Animation and I attribute that passion almost entirely to my childhood adoration of the Sonic CD opening animation.
gosh i love these master classes!! now i can't wait to get on my computer and paint a portrait!! When i was little i remeber always drawing horses, idk why, but i liked the shape of their faces!
Well, technically I'm already a paid artist, I was given $25 back in Elementary School for a picture that I had made, which was something to do with Physical Fitness Drawing Stick figures really does pay the bills
I loved to draw when I was young, then I grew up, became an engineer and got a very stressful job and dropped drawing... but you and other artists in youtube got me drawing again. Thank you!
Alright man you sold me on your channel. Gonna have to re-watch these after I’ve gotten a better at literally everything. Back to them basic 3-D shapes. Love me some cubes.
Honestly Ross, you're a life saver. Thank you sooooo much for being so generous and providing us such quality information while making it fun. I still cant believe the fact that I'm watching this for free. Youre the best :)
Ross draws Talking about artbblock and finding an inspiration for escape. And I can say Ross draws is my new inspiration. And now I want to be a digital artist.
i watched the whole series and find something interesting.. i think the best way to come up with the creative solution is to play with the contrast.. come up with an idea and another idea that completely different (kind of letting yourself lose ur way to another direction), then find what u really want in the balance of that two ideas
Stunning! I've been wanting to get started with digital art for a long time now but never knew the process. As a kid, I used to sketch and paint a lot but it's a completely different game with digital art. I hope I can someday be as good as you! But thanks a lot for this. It's really helpful! ✨
DRAGONS! I used to draw a loooooots of dragons in elementary school :D Thank you so much for this course, Ross! It's so super helpful and motivating as always! I just love seeing you paint, super inspiring
for people having a hard time with portraits, I suggest learning anatomy and planes of the face! There are some books I've read such as The head- Andrew Loomis. I also watch Proko and Angel Ganev. Drawing heads and bodies may seem boring, but as long as you are truly learning from it, it will help you so much in the long run! i also suggest using references in almost all of your paintings or art to really use that as your foundation n stuff. I hope whoever is reading this would get help or know where to start, there is no right way to start learning art and everyone has their own way, but this is what I did and I'm still learning, but I've improved so much over half a year and I know you will too! (I suggest Angel Ganev's tutorial play list, and a good digital tablet or an iPad w/ procreate, I didnt do much drawing on paper when learning anatomy, I used an iPad :] )
I'm trying to imitate some aspects of his style, so far I've got some insight into how he does it. Lots of layers and blending is key to give it that soft glow. Especially in the eyes, trust me. I am surprised how easy it is once u can recognise what colours go together. Just remember for every warm colour like red orange pink you need shadows that are cool colours like blues purples etc And finally always do your sketch with skin tones not black, like he is doing. I am still not there but there are some very sneaky things he does that he doesn't share on this video. Chief among them is how long it takes, seriousely its taken me the better part of 4 hours on procreate just on the sketch , eyes and lower lip. Trust me this needs patience. Also every now and then flip ur image horizontally. It will minimise issues with symmetry. I didn't do this in the beginning which I regret.
I have seen so many tutorials but i'v never seen one that explains in such a simply but effective way as these tutorials do. Thank you so much Ross.!! also thank you for sharing a few of your special secret powers that you use to make look amazing. ❤️
I drew humans, I was very good at coloring since I was like 2 years old. I used to have many coloring books and used to fill them up, my grandfather was actually an art teacher so he was very surprised when I coloured without getting it out of the lines when I was too young. He was the one who bought me all the reference books. I used to copy his style, now I created my own. Yesterday I drew a picture in ibispaint x, it turned out very well. But, I cannot afford Adobe.

the first thing i remember to draw when i was young was the anime DRAGON BALL. i started to draw anime, but now i draw realistic portraits. thank you for the tips Ross draw. stay safe and healthy.
I loved drawing Sonic the Hedgehog. I'm studying Computer Animation and I attribute that passion almost entirely to my childhood adoration of the Sonic CD opening animation.

Ross draws
Talking about artbblock and finding an inspiration for escape.
And I can say Ross draws is my new inspiration.
And now I want to be a digital artist.
i watched the whole series and find something interesting.. i think the best way to come up with the creative solution is to play with the contrast.. come up with an idea and another idea that completely different (kind of letting yourself lose ur way to another direction), then find what u really want in the balance of that two ideas
this man rlly just went from something a 5 year old can draw to a master piece
I want to know who’s doing the female voice lines!! 😍
It’s so perfect! Really captures her character!

Me: bOY WHAT THE HELL wHAT WAS THAT
wdym? the blending mode?
It’s on most drawing apps- definitely on Ibix Paint X and Autodesk Sketchbook. It’s under the blending mode options when editing layers

Look at this sketch and it being better than anything I can draw now... what a punch to the stomach.
I'm trying to imitate some aspects of his style, so far I've got some insight into how he does it. Lots of layers and blending is key to give it that soft glow. Especially in the eyes, trust me. I am surprised how easy it is once u can recognise what colours go together. Just remember for every warm colour like red orange pink you need shadows that are cool colours like blues purples etc
And finally always do your sketch with skin tones not black, like he is doing.
Any1 else want milo?? hEs SO CUTEEEEE especially when Ross squeezes his face :0
my high school art teacher : "stealing is a beautiful thing"
Ive been seeing ross in my feeds for a long time... i just gave it a chance and was surprised that i learned a lot
But, I cannot afford Adobe.
i used to LOVE drawing horses so much!
7:00 this now makes me realize how much faye and xayah are alike ashfwhgw
idk y but the colour dodge kinda brought a smile on my face
I Loved painting Goku in all of his forms, and with you video you gave me what I need to complete my own character! Thanks for this VOD!!
You are such a great artist. And are funny and so positive, I just discovered your channel and I really like your videos. Keep going like that :D
