    Y'all, these people intentionally submitted their artwork to be critiqued by Ross- don't get butthurt or offended on their behalf, you're just disrespecting them. Ross isn't being rude or mean to the people whose art he's looking at, he's helping them by offering them tips and tricks on how to become better at art. It's true, art is an extremely versatile form of self expression, but there's a thin line between creative choices and basic mistakes.

    Warning about the comment section: people are getting too angry over specific words he uses, instead of enjoying the knowledge he learned on his own journey that he chose to share. If that's not your style, then you don't have to take his advice. Simple.

    • @itzyasel5349

      I think that’s because “fixing” is implying that your art needs to be “fixed” because it looks bad. If he said “critiquing” than I guess people wouldn’t be so mad? Idk man I’m reading and replying 🤷🏽‍♀️

    • @cricket3575
      @cricket3575 3 роки тому +89

      @@itzyasel5349 I suppose, but "fixing" and "critiquing" kind of means the same thing to me in regards to art. Like, "To my eye, this could be done better. This is how I would do it."

    • @itzyasel5349
      @itzyasel5349 3 роки тому +21

      @@cricket3575 Agreed, but when you use the term “fixing” it’s like something damaging to them that needs to be fixed, like art. When you fix something, there is no advice, you just fix it. What Ross is actually doing is critiquing. Giving helpful advice to improve. And the reason why fixing is considered a terrible word in the art community because of sometimes artists had that happen to them. Where the artist redrew a piece that they probably worked really hard on into a completely different style and was technically shitting on them.

    Word of advice for people who cant take critique: You wont get far if you dont listen to your mentor/ teacher when they criticize your work. Imagine if you make a portrait but the face proportions/ shadows or colors are off and your teacher just tells you that you did a good job. Well first of all your teacher should probably quit and second you wont learn anything. Mistakes that are shown to you is what makes you improve.
    I myself study art and i rather hear my professor talking trash about my piece while i am watching him fixing it than hearing all bubbles and butterflies on how good my art looks.

      Yeah but he also unnecessarily gave her a bigger chest and said he was helping with “anatomy”.. and basically called her an alien-well, he said something like this, if not word for word: “maybe she’s an alien XD”. (Minus the XD, it just seemed like he was joking..I’m sure u get it..)-cuz she was smaller-chested before... that doesn’t seem helpful to the OG artist (or flatter chested girls irl, tho I get that’s not necessarily his job, per se).
      What could’ve been helpful instead of making her busty & a C(+) cup, would be if he showed her how to draw smaller chest sizes, like the one she attempted. That was clearly her original intent.
      And he didn’t need to literally say she was more human with a bigger chest size.

    • @ivywen4920
      @ivywen4920 3 роки тому +1

      @@honeybat8803 its not about the size. Its about the angles and “camera” positioning. It may seemed like he gave her a bigger cup but it’s actually to tell the people which angle the “camera” is positioned to. Is it was not fixed, people would be confused in which direction the body and the head is facing, that may lead to future mistakes the artists don’t even realize. A person’s head and body is supposingly faced in the same direction when it comes to side-ish views.

    we live in a world in which people would get mad if an artist such as Leonardo Da Vinci would say "I'm gonna fix your art" people would get mad at him. of course he's gonna fix it! he's effin' DaVinci. and I said that because maybe Ross is not as great as DaVinci, but he knows more than people commenting here do (including me), if you don't know about anatomy, he will correct that from your art and "fix it" (you can call it whatever you want), because he KNOWS about art, you can't just do something not that good (I'm not gonna say bad because you people get offended so easily) and say "that' s the way I intended from the very begining". C'mon guys we are here to learn, and Ross is giving tips and advices, so don't be so mad at him! (and stop getting offended by stupid things)

      When I give critique to someone, I don't draw over their drawing, but I draw my own simple drawing that explains what's wrong. "Fixing" an art actually doesn't sound nice, no matter who's doing it, but it's not the only way to critique.
      But in this video ross not just "fixing" it to how it would look better in his eyes, but explains what is his intention, and the fixing basically lets us to compare the two, even if ross didn't put as much time and effort as the original artist.

    Lots of great critique throughout the video. Only thing I would say is that I feel Ross has the tendency to "beautify" faces to fit a very idealised standard which can remove a lot of character from them. I think there could be a lot of story to the roughness of the last piece originally, and the improvement turned it into just a face you could find in any glamour/makeup catalogue

    One thing that a lot of artists can’t take is criticism. And that’s where they misunderstand. That’s the only way to keep improving- to see what you can change to make future artworks EVEN better. Don’t take it as an attack, take it as a learning process. You’ll become a better artist.

    Omg lol!! LMAOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO ppl are sooo sensitive Ross had to change the title to I 'improve' my fan's art, rather than 'fix' !! LMAO yall made my day.

    • @FluffleFluffs
      @FluffleFluffs 3 роки тому +8

      Undergrad Art student here: It's not people being sensitive. Fixing implies that there was something wrong with it (people usually do "fixes" to undermine ones work typically under experienced artist). Improving is a better term to use as its just enhancing the piece. Calling people sensitive for wanting him to use the correct terms is really insensitive, they just want him to avoid getting hate for a term that is used to be negative rather than positive that's all.

    • @whereaboutsunknown3822
      @whereaboutsunknown3822 3 роки тому

      I agree with Jordan. Using the word "fix" kinda feels like you're flexing on a lower skilled artist or the artist is full of themselves. Even though it's a small matter, it still doesn't sound good. Improve is a little better but still not the word choice I would use. "I paint over my fan's work" or "I redraw my fan's work" just sounds more professional and less conceited. Ya know?

    Gamers, critique is so incredibly important, if you can't handle being told what's wrong with your work in a constructive manner then you may want re-evaluate your goals with art. Getting told that something you're proud of has major flaws is a blow to the ol' ego and it can hurt but videos like these are not meant to tear you down, you need to take what is being said at face value and continue to grow with the advice in mind.

    As a traditional "non-digital" artist, I actually found all of his points very helpful. I go to a school where even students who are going into graphic design are forced to learn the fundamentals of drawing because it improves how you see things and it does transfer over between each medium you will use. I can understand if people are upset by his word choice at times, especially if you worked really hard on something and are still learning, but he does bring up valuable points. Even if you want to take your idea in a different direction and want it to look a certain way, you should really still focus on fundamentals with character design, focal point, contrast, composition, etc. Either way, this is your art journey! You decide where you want to head with it, and every artist will have their own opinion on your work just as you will on other people's work. At the end of the day, if you like what you do and are improving something to make yourself a better artist, that's what matters :)
