One of the many things that is great about the maids is that you never know what's coming - whether it's the next song or the next measure. Welcome to Band-Maid! The best hard rock band I have heard in my 58 years on this planet. They don't stick to any one genre and often mix genres in songs. They are extremely diverse and have an extensive back catalogue featuring Punk, Pop-Punk, Hard-Rock, Classic Rock, Metal, Prog, Blues, Jazz, Groove, Rap etc. From face melting 220 bpm punk-prog mayhem to ballads, instrumentals to acoustics they do it all. They can make you headbang, they can make you pogo, they can make you cry like a baby. They are also five of the nicest people in music, without a shred of ego. They are funny and fun and world class musicians to boot. They are currently into their 11th year with the original line up.
Btw, Miku the rhythm guitarist (red rose) formed the band. She had the idea of Band-Maid after working as a maid in Japanese maid cafe's. Her idea is a concept called "The Gap" - that is what you see (cute maids) is NOT what you get (Hard Rock/Punk/Metal). They take the maid café concept literally. They call their concerts "servings" and their fans "Masters and Princesses". Oh, and Miku is an 810 year old small pigeon. Welcome to the pigeon hole Po!

BAND-MAID is a band that was formed 11 years ago in 2013 in Tokyo, Japan. They were around 19-21 years old at that time. The members have remained the same for 11 years, and they already have nearly 130 original songs. They are a real live rock band, with 70% of their fans said to be outside of Japan. There are over 50 music videos on their official UA-cam channel, so please listen to any of them. They are all different and great songs.
The first song their label allowed them to write themselves. They now have around 130 songs in their catalog. You can't go wrong here. The just did a collaboration with The Warning. I'm sure you'll be doing more of the maids.

Thanks for the wonderful reaction. "They're really good." - hehe you've no idea. In fact, this is an old song of theirs, and the first original piece of music their label allowed them to release. Since then, with few exceptions it's been all them. And they have a created massive and diverse catalog, and almost all of it is top tier, and I mean Beatles-level top tier. I'd recommend their more recent instrumental "From Now On" if you want to see a master class in songwriting and instrumental talent.

They have some progressive elements, but you cannot call them a progressive band.

These ladies are masters at their instruments: Kanami (composer and lead guitar), Akane (drums) and Misa (bass). Then there is lead vocalist Saiki who is perfect for the Band Maid sound and Miku Kobato (rythm guitar, pure energy, most lyrics, fantastic backing vocals and harmonies). Miku wasn't able to play the guitar when she founded the bandin 2013.
I don't know of any other band where the fans' playlists differ so much. So, this is just a quite random selection of songs: For some very special live videos try Freedom, Play, Real existence and Endless Story. With Moratorium (Live at Zepp), Rinne (MV), Protect You (MV) and Dice you can hear more hard rock while more catchy songs are Choose me (MV) and Bestie (MV). And if you want to hear some ballads then maybe About Us (MV) and Daydreaming (MV) are good picks. But don't miss some of their instrumentals like From now on (MV) and Onset (Live). And finally a very special live performance is Manners/Blackhole (Official Online Live)🍌 And there is much more. At most every song a banger. So, here is the thing. Band-Maid is probably one of the best hard rock bands in the world. That's not a hyperbole. They have over 130 songs. You will be amazed. Not one bad song in the list.
For some tips: Music written by Kanami (lead g - a genius), Lyrics by Miku (rhy g). MISA (bass) is a lead bass. She is just fantastic. Akane (drums) is probably one of the best drummers in hard rock (listen to all the other drummers who say that). And Saiki (vocals) is absolutely mesmerizing on stage. You just stepped into a rabbit hole (or we call it pigeon hole). Good luck.

Welcome to the Land of the Maid. Their more recent vids have cc's - but I'd ignore the words first time through - you'll have your hands full listening to the instrumentation. (Unless we fans tell you - in which case you should listen. We won't lead you astray.) So yeah - go with superflylee's suggestion and try Hate? Official Live. When you've got 10 songs under your belt, you'll just be starting to realize how epic their playing and songwriting is - and every single song they write is very good to OMFG!! You may want to put superflylee on your "send them a fruitcake for Christmas list" at some point.

At the time of filming this OMV, the oldest member, Akane (Dr), was 24, and the youngest member, Saiki (lead vocal), was 21...probably😏

For a long time the fans really wanted to see "Domination" (live) and they still do, but "Hate?" (live) is the new Domination (everything they liked about Domination is even better in Hate?). They also have some instrumentals (to give the singer a break during long shows) and they are well worth checking out "From Now On" and "Onset" are the 2 usually recommended. PRS has a video with Dany of The Warning and Kanami of Band-maid going over their guitars and other stuff. The rhythm guitarist/vocalist, Miku, has a video tour of the Zemaitus factory (when the Maids are doing something official they are in costume and in character, Miku is unique).
That you've seen them before makes sense, because the classic "You ain't seen nothin' yet!" comment should be more like, "You've seen one (or in this case two) of thirty- seven different things from this band" 😊 The cool thing is when you realize that with all the different stuff they they do, it still always sounds like Band-Maid. Hence the "they're their own genre" comments.

Band Maid is a dish best served LIVE !!!!!! Music videos are great, but you have to check out their live official videos. For starters, to get a real look at their musicianship, react to "Onset", a truly complex and kick-ass instrumental. Then the song "Don't You Tell Me" from their November 2023 10th Anniversary concert finale in Yokohama. And if you are up for a two-fer reaction, try "Manners" and "Black Hole" from their 2021 Online Okyu-Ji stream. They are all great songs and real bangers.
This is not your first time listening to this band. I introduced them to you like five months ago on one of your livestreams give or take. You watched ‘From Now On’ Instrumental and the first minute of ‘Blooming’ before UA-cam shut it down. 🍺🥴

My only regret as a fan (since the day they released their first UA-cam video in IIRC Nov 2014) is that I didn't record my first listen to the group ... although it is still very clear in my memory, the feel of 'Holy Fuk' (and I had already discovered BABYMETAL, so I thought I was ready for anything Japan could throw at me now.)

Oh btw Arch Enemy just released a banger (my new favorite from them). Check out Arch Enemy - Dream Stealer.

This song is fairly early in their 11 year career. You should hear and see them now! Especially Official Live videos. The Maids are best LIVE!
The official videos have excellent closed captioning that is accurate, easy to read, and not covering up the view. This band loves audiences, and their live performance official videos will not disappoint. They hop around various modern rock genres and tend to blend them. Lyrics are solid. Japanese like to sing part of their songs in English. Pay attention. You will see that they cleverly rhyme the English with the Japanese. Not obvious to most, but sometimes the backup singer will use a Japanese word while the lead is singing English. Similar sound but a different meaning (double entendres).

What do we think? We think Band-Maid is the best rock band on the planet today. If you truly liked that there is a whole lot more to hear. The instrumental From Now On and the official live versions of Hate? and Domination are good places to start.
Band Maid were the first J Rock band I discovered (during the pandemic) and they (and the excellent, welcoming fanbase) have led me on to discovering so many more bands in addition to them. This song is one of the pivot points in their career: the first song written by Kanami to be accepted by the record company. She and the band have written almost every song they've released since. I LOVE Kanami's solo here, it just feels like it's something she's saved up and is finally able to unleash, fully expressing herself for the first time in her own way. A lot of her solos are really emotional, and this is one that gets me.
Recommendations: Puzzle; Sayonakidori (sung by rhythm guitarist Miku, and available in equally essential full band and live acoustic versions); Manners. Those are probably my top 3 (today anyway). Welcome to a deep rabbit hole and a great fanbase.

Get lyrics out of your head, that's what musicians trip over to get to their instruments. You'll miss a lot of great songs if you get hung up on lyrics with Band-Maid. Stay with them, they're for real. This was the first song after their first three albums that the record company let Kanami (lead guitarist) record after years of rejecting her songs, and the rest is history. They became their own band after this song, and after ten years together with the same members they just keep getting better. Watch "From Now On" (instrumental) from their YT channel and you'll really see what they're Maid of.
