This was the first song that the ladies wrote so its a big moment for them. Kanami had been writing songs for a long time but management wouldn't accept them. Saiki, especially, kept pushing Kanami and telling her how great he songs were so management finally produced one of them and it was a huge hit. This song rips!
it almost brings me to tears that this song is so great. i've been a bassist for 57 years and could never write one song half as good as this - kanami's first effort to be accepted by their label. then add 'dice' , daydreaming , clang and every other composition by her and it's quite obvious why she is considered a musical genius. i'm just a poser !
Older Band-Maid has a decidedly more Pop-Punk flavor to it. Their first album (Made in Japan) was essentially a Pop-Punk album. So the trivia behind Alone: This was the first song that the band completely wrote and produced themselves that was allowed to be released on an album. It was the last track on Brand New Maid and pretty much blew the rest of the album out of the water. After Alone, the record execs let the band do what they wanted. So this is essentially a coming of age song in the band's history. As far as the video is concerned, take what I just told you and watch the video again. They are "alone" in a recording studio playing their music, without anyone behind the soundboard. Pretty symbolic. Another thing you may not have caught is in the opening shot, you see Saiki throw down a mic stand. In any video after this, you will never see her using a mic stand again.
For me, this is where the SOUL of Band-Maid begun as it was the first original 100% B-M written song to be recorded. Not saying the songs beforehand lacked anything, but with Alone they started to become their own band.
Kanami Tono is a brilliant composer and song writer. It’s hard to believe after listening to one of their songs that she put all this together. She’s brilliant.
You know the 'b' sides to their singles are hidden gems. The single for 'YOLO' had 'Matchless Gum' and 'Unfair Game' both incredible songs. They are rarely played but they did bring out 'Unfair Game' in Detroit this year and yes it was filmed, here's the link, it also is probably Kanami's longest solo. ua-cam.com/video/Tt9C0EaEtQk/v-deo.html
They definitely played this at Lollapalooza. This is a great example of what I love about Band-Maid. It's a random mid-00's rock genre that brings nostalgia and then the solo absolutely shreds unlike anything that came out that entire decade.
I have a theory about the video, and it being shot in a recording studio. Maybe the Maids used the video as a representation of them recording their first self-composed, arranged and produced song for an album. Like "this is ours now" and we are just getting started. Whether it's fact or fiction, it's a cool idea either way, IMO. Now, this song rocks. Pure 00's punk. I love that they've brought this back out for the NA tour. A lot of their earlier stuff was very punky. Then came Just Bring It, and well, Band-Maid finally found their sound. And it was heavy. ぽ
Well let me tell you about a story about a group named *BAND-MAID* A group of lovely girls who played rock music that thought was dead And then one day *BAND-MAID* went to the record producers And the next thing you know they started writing on their own *Alone* that is the first song they wrote on their own Well the next thing you know *BAND-MAID* is now and free To write their own music as they shouted out with glee They said *Domination* is where you oughta be And they pack up their gear to make history... 🤠 🐎 🐦 🎀
Band-Maid had just done their US and Mexico tour. I can tell you that these ladies have shown the world that a band of females can be badass rockers! Remember this band is from Japan where almost all industries in the country are dominated by male. What an inspiration for the ladies out there! I discovered this band for my master thesis about music industries for females in Japan (during COVID) and I've found this band along with Nemophelia, Scandal, Lovebites etc. Basically, all female bands. Among all these bands, Band-Maid is the most interesting band as they are the band with a simple "theme" that is inspired by the maid cafe. It's like going into a theme park. At the beginning (10 years ago), they either sell their concert tickets to their family and friends or buy the tickets with their own money to fill up the venue. Now, they are getting recognition and attention from the world. Although at the end, my thesis could not get the highest score but I'm still proud of my thesis. I wish one day they will come and perform in my country, Malaysia and ask their signatures on my thesis. Apologies for the long comments. 😊
Once they were left "Alone" by their record / management companies to create what they wanted, well... look what they did. Alone's somewhat sad, heavy yet empowering story (topics Miku's known for writing about), up against Kanami's up-tempo, complex yet rockin' music is quintessential Band-Maid. BAND-MAID is an important influence and contributor to the music industry with a continuous, growing worldwide fanbase. But to me, they are just the best sounding, best writers of hard rock music, and the most fun, joyous group of musicians to come along since the Beatles! Thx, John!
Love watching your BM reactions, same facial expressions as me except I'm a 65 year old Aussie drummer with a head that looks like a dropped pie 😂 what a fcken band Viva the Maids Po 👍🎼🥁🎤🎸🍻
The second most important song in their catalog. The first song they wrote that was allowed to see the light of day. And an ever increasing mountain of awesomeness began.
After catching up their their most iconic songs, REWATCH Unleash and your head will spin with all the Easter eggs and call backs in the video haha. Keep Rockin' John ;) PS, You are gonna LOVE the Acoustic set.
Alone is the beginning song that they wrote and composed by themselves. It may be said that this is the beginning of true BAND-MAID. I like this Kanami's guitar solo that starts with Saiki's 3, 2, 1, go!
There 2 versions of their acustic show. 1 the normal version and ther one with their comments as they also watch the show. I got to tell you that's a must.
"A song approved by adults" Until then, the songs they had written had not been approved for release. And from this "Alone" almost everything will be made with BAND-MAID. great song every time.
What tier of your Patreon will be able to watch your reaction to the acoustic set? I have a suggestion... there are going to be songs in the acoustic set where you haven't heard the original studio version. When it comes time to react to the those original versions, make sure you listen to the acoustic version right before your reaction to the original so you can be blown away by the re-arrangements.
Hard working band, you have no idea. There is a series of fan made documents from Ohrenje UA-cam channel that are very well done. In one of them it is mention that in 2016 BAND-MAID did 101 shows in that one year, that's going all over Japan and I believe 9 other countries.
@@JohnReavesLive Here is the channel, there is a doc for each member of the band, the first one with Saiki is the one where they talk about the crazy amount of shows. www.youtube.com/@Ohrenje

man tears of joy listening to them back in 2013 and now damn! time so fast!

This is a fun one because it's the first song they were allowed by the record company to write themselves. The bones of what they are now are there.
For me, this is where the SOUL of Band-Maid begun as it was the first original 100% B-M written song to be recorded. Not saying the songs beforehand lacked anything, but with Alone they started to become their own band.
4:00 I have heard this song prob 500 times, and I still get chills and tears here. It's like she's playing a violin.

The guitar riff is the one catches my ear so melodic
"Alone" is a great song. Yeah, it was number 5 at Lolla, I was surprised to hear it come up in a short set list. Thanks for the reaction!
MISA is playing her old four string Fender and Akane is wearing the tiny hat both have been retired.
