    Thank you. I echo all the posts about how important he is to the sport. His legend as big as John Madden was to the NFL.

    I fully understand that this is not the popular view but he was never really very good and should have retired at leas 20 years ago.
    He can't identify riders and is clueless about tactics.
    His "sell by" date was long ago.

      Don’t know about 20 years ago, but I’d agree with 15! People like him - seems like a nice guy. But in addition to his obvious increase in errors over the years (Bob Roll was constantly, if gently, correcting them in this year’s TDF), his stubborn defense of Lance Armstrong against claims of illegal doping seemed more the stance of a fan (or promoter) than a journalist. So yes, he should have stepped down long ago, and I think it is mostly nostalgia that makes so many put up with his less than adequate cycling commentating to this day.
