Living in the mountains for the last 10 years worked for me! I can't escape the hill climbing. I started a lot in the granny gear, now I'm flying up hills. Riding up climbs that are over 20 km and you start to learn to manage your cadence really quickly. I don't do any specific drills, just a lot of miles and I'm seeing dramatic improvements. At 63 I just did a personal best, 16 km in 30 minutes, on a hilly route with lots of climbing the end.
Attacking a climb closer to the top very hard and immediately going downhill is very typical for XC skiing, and those are places where crucial seconds are usually gained.
I'm doing it wrong way as I ride FG flats and rolling hills. Sure, easy gearing - 48/18, I often have headwind and I still want to move forward. Hills are nice, I just have to maintain buttocks and they let me to go up seated - just slower if hills are steep or long enough. Weak core and hips result in a knee pain so I invest into them and body rewards me. Cycling has become much more fun and less pain during ride and after.
The trouble I find with Strava is that it divides climbs into segments whereas Garmin Connect shows the actual climbs and what type they are and while it’s good to improve on climbs by using Strava to compare past performances, I like it when I climb category 4 climbs. I have had mixed results on category 4 climbs. Exceptions being Whiteleaf which is listed as top 100 climbs in the U.K. at no 23 and Ditchling Beacon which I’ve tried 4 times
Don’t claim to be super fit but always been good climbing. Done a few 33% climbs ok. Stay within your self. Twiddle away. Seen big hitters blow themselves up then you go real them in with a steady HR. Good luck!
Can you tell us how you gear your Wattbike & Trainer Difficulty in Zwift please ? Assume this if for Alpe Du Zwift & circa 60mins of riding. Otherwise, great content and many thanks for sharing !
What can I do coach. My normal cadence is 60 and 70 is harry clappers for me! How do I manage to turn the pedals fast enough that a lower gear doesn't mean fall over?
Sorry Coach, but on this trainer your saddle height looks too high: legs nearly stretched out and much heel dropping at the buttom of the stroke. Isn‘t that what your in your other Videos teach to avoid??
Don‘t forget to get the Starter Program 😉 www.bulletproofcycling.com/?el=v59&htrafficsource=yt

You STAY on that bike‼️

I do the downhills like a boss 😂
Happy new year coach, cadence masterclass 🚲🎉
Thank You dear coach. Wish you a very happy new year 💐💐💐
I love your personality! Any tips when you've had left lung removed? I'm back on the bike after surgery. Thanks Karla

You're an inspiration, coach!

Great video. What is ideal gear for this exercise on Zwift? Or a plan to follow on it would be super.
Granny Ring Club! Low and slow, that is the tempo
Thank you and happy new years bro
Hello sir love your videos and your bike stand! Where can I get that bike stand 😃

Ding, ding, ding. We have a winner. Im worried about my strava time. lol.
That's my issue my legs give up quickly whereas I'm breathing through my nose comfortably
oh wow... usally im the other way arround
Me too. Though mine recover quickly.
All my PB’s are out of the saddle … even up 2.2km of Boxhill …. Out of saddle the whole way
I always try to save energy by using low gears but still my legs are not developing that strength with multiple workouts
Malcolm Tucker style coaching. 😂
David Spade and Christina Applegate just invited you into their living room
more tools for the toolbox. thanks again.

can you try it indoors? if not do it on the flats or very slight uphill just pedal faster. invest in a cadence measurement to see what you are doing
@@ArneStabel Thanks. I have tried that (at least I won't fall over) but unfortunately to no avail, so far anyway.
👏
Hell training!
Ok I have a hill i clime every day it 1.5 mil at 6to 8 percent i will start that drill tomorrow also i am 63 years old las vegas nv

What if your legs are burning even in the lowest gear, and low cadence (38/32 @ 56 cad) ? Huh? Huh? Mister Smarty Pants?😂😂
lol, it just means that you need to do the cadence drills more than most people.
It's probably because you don't manage your energy...
try to eat more during your rides... it helped me at least
Are you guys okay? Can't tell what a joke is?
@@DDai-qd8ukit might be a joke to you, some be living this 😂
Probably in more trouble than most 😢
your trainer fit looks super cramped.
Nice accent again, still do not understand the lad 😂
indoor bike, you're just using the gears to simulate the hills?
