This car is absolutely stunning. Kumo picked the perfect outfit with the shirt to compliment the Bordeaux Red interior along with the pants to match the gold trim. You see, when the outfit matches the color and trim of the car you are reviewing, you know you are watching the right review of this magnificent Porsche.
Thank you, Lee!
That’s one handsome Boxster. Thanks for making the video!
The amount of work you do to come up with your well made sentences is impressive!
Thank you, Hady!
Thanks for the Boxster content! I have enjoyed my Boxster for years and most people don't understand why it is so good. I would take a GTS and enjoy the comfort over the spyder harshness. The spyder is just to rough for daily activities.
Great video! So glad they brought back the six. I’m starting my 18th season with my 1999 Forest Green Metalic Boxster. That little NA 2.5 really sings at high revs. PS: Really enjoyed your Spyder videos too!
18th Season:) Love it!
Nice review...fyi, it comes in white and black as well...and you can have a black interior and/or roof as well...not sure why you'd want to because it's perfection in GT Silver/Bordeaux Red!
i'd think porsche wouldn't just hand out a rarity like this to anybody so congrats to you! must habe established a high lvl of trust with them
I don't usually experience lust when I watch a car review. This was the exception. I want it!
A Porsche 718 with the 4.0 and a 6 speed manual is a perfect car to me.
Personally I love it. I was a sophomore in high school when the original concept car debuted and got the promotional material from Porsche that came with a small poster of the car. It was awesome and a huge step for Porsche especially during the early 1990’s. After years of the 911 looking virtually the same and not changing until the 964 came out, the Boxster concept showed that Porsche was headed in a new direction and was reinventing itself while staying true to it’s roots. I loved the original concept car and love this homage to the original.
Just a shame when it launched, the original was poor.
To be honest... I'd rather have a base 718 four-cylinder plus an original Boxster with some cash to spare over this. Aside from the GT4 squarely for track duty and as homologation basis for a specific race car class I just don't get why you'd want more power, more weight in a Boxster. Yeah the 4.0 is nice, but it doesn't fit what car is supposed to be, a lightweight roadster. Just another example for how Porsche lost their ways a bit. ...not that it really matters with electrification coming.
The turbos weigh a lot actually. The GTS 4.0 does weigh more, but not too much.
For manuals, curb weights:
1. 2021 Boxster (base): 3,020lbs
2. 2021 Boxster S: 3,071lbs
3. 2021 Boxster GTS 4.0: 3,156lbs
This does make me feel old. Back in 1999, two of my best friends in two different states both bought silver 2000 Porsche Boxsters. One of those friends drove it for a number of years before trading it and has never bought another Porsche to my knowledge. The other (my roommate from college) still has his after all these years since I know he couldn’t afford the prices of a new one now, and his wife probably wouldn’t want to spend the money anyway.
For my friend who still has his car, he began with the 5 speed and after a month or so of trying to learn how to drive a stick, ended up giving up and trading it for the tiptronic (at great expense). Heresy I know, but at least he’s enjoying the car he has.
As for me, I can’t be jealous of either of my friends since it’s physically impossible for me to drive that car considering my frame. Somehow I doubt the current model with the longer wheelbase would be any better. :(
RICK! I would almost pay money to see you behind the wheel of a Boxster:)
@@MotoManTV You'd have to remove the actual steering wheel, at least for the 1st gen Boxster. 20 years ago when my friend got the car, we had a memorable summer drive across the Brooklyn Bridge. And by memorable, I mean I was riding shotgun while my knees were wedged against the dashboard while the circulation was disappearing from my legs. 20 minutes was all I could take. Which reminds me...I finally got in the seat of the C8 Corvette at a local dealer a couple days ago and by "got in the seat" I mean "wedged myself" so that my right knee was against the steering wheel and the infotainment screen and my left knee was against the wheel and the door. Considering this car has a squarish wheel, even if I could somehow manipulate the pedals (a BIG IF), I couldn't turn the wheel to go anywhere. I like little 2-seater sports cars, but I can't fit in any of them. *Sigh*
You would fit in a 992 . . . just sayin':)
@@MotoManTV Actually, you may be right on that. In years past I have managed to get into 911s mainly since the configuration is a lot more upright given its early 1960s origins with a shade more legroom and lots of headroom. Modern 911s are larger and while I couldn't do a stick shift as a regular thing considering my legs, I might be able to wheel a dual clutch automatic around....of course if I could afford one, would even that situation be comfortable enough to own one? Occasionally small can work (example: I can drive modern automatic Mini Coopers, except the 1st gen ones) and often much larger vehicles do not (my mother's Lexus NX300 I can barely drive). With my height, I'm taller in my legs which makes things difficult there in many cases.
Awesome video! I have a 2020 Tesla Model X that I will be trading in for a 2022 Boxster.....I am so excited!
MotoMan you are a genius. I received my 2021 Red Spyder in February. I’ve owned a 2016 Cayman GTS and a 2012 911S. This is hands down the best Porsche for the money. 911 owners will never admit it, but it drives better, handles better and looks better! Keeping this under 7500 miles per year is going to be extremely hard. It’s a great car!
Congrats on a great acquisition!
Why limit yourself on yearly mileage?
@@thedudeabides1443 The car costs $120k and as GT car it has a great resale value with reasonable miles. It’s not a daily driver for me but I will enjoy it. By the time it hits 20k miles (3 years) I will be able to buy another Porsche and split the miles.
Brian Macklin makes sense. Seems these days ALL Porsches have good resale value!
Thanks Motoman. Always the most intelligent car reviews on UA-cam.
But the specs are totally wrong!
The interior goes well with your shirt.
Kumo picked out my wardrobe for this shoot:)
I just went on the Porsche configurator and built a GT silver Spyder with gold/Arum wheels, red interior and top, with Bose for $104K. THAT is way cooler than 25th anniversary GTS package . Motoman you are right again, the Spyder is the answer. It might be difficult to get an allocation, but not any harder that the 25th anniversary car would be to get. Even better idea, find a 2016 GT Silver Spyder with classic red package and buy the gold/arum 2021 Spyder/GT4 wheels. You probably could save $10K, not wait on a build and have arguably a better sounding car than 2021
The spyder drives too rough. Hence a lot of people are selling off their cars.
Motoman TV = A zeal for automotive applications that is packaged and presented in the most digestible and desirable format.
Thank you, Austin!
@@MotoManTV Nein danke
You can spec it with different colours in and out man… Also the red roof is a no-cost option in any Boxster...
yepp
Those wheels! Lovely
I love this car and you put together another great video MotoMan. But, when did the Boxster become a $100K+ car (at least, when equipped the way most people would want one)?
I am getting my version soon. A lot of your facts are wrong. It’s 400 HP, comes in White, Black and silver with red or Black Rolf and red or Black leather.
Man! You are having so much fun with that manual box.. can feel it from right in my living room..
Even with those terrible ratios!
Yes the air intake idea on the side of the vehicle comes from the third generation MR2 Spyder. Fact!!!! Look at both and compare. No brainer
Topless and Class. Full Military power on 100 octane?
It is always so very enjoyable to watch your episodes. Erudition aside, your appreciation for and the explanation of the technical aspects of your subjects is some of the very best in the utube [sic] world. Your erudition is nonpareil MotoManTV. Thank you - and I am very happy to see you looking fitter and moving better than you have in a long time.
Thank you, Ally!

+1. .. As for a top-tier steak, it's Peter Luger Steak House in Brooklyn, NY ... Although ownership has changed hands; Peter & Frederick Luger are retired.
Magnificent place . . .
YES YES YES! A 25th Anniversary Edition in a Spyder would be ideal.
Love to hear the car some day.
Thanks for featuring the Lagonda in some of the standing shots!
Would love to feature the Lagonda as a separate RETRO DRIVE REVIEW . . . Will do so if you guys start sharing those older RETRO DRIVE REVIEWs . . .
Just considering one myself, I have a build slot for November. Available in black, white and GT silver in the UK. I’m considering black/black/black. Looks fabulous with the neodyme detailing. ❤️
Looks good 😌
It comes in three exterior colors. White, Black and GT Silver. And two interior colors. Black and Burgundy.
Many people still haven't realized how much better boxsters are than 911s
Porsche is like the Omega of cars. Yes they are precise and well engineered but each week a new “limited super special anniversary edition” comes out.
Only item on the wishlist for that particular car: If I'm spending that much already, I would definitely also tick the Burmester box to complete this special car!
Agreed!
Configurator shows 3 color options. I think the black with red top and red interior is choice
I'm guessing this will be an Omaze auction, if so, count me in. My Spyder built in Porsche website is $117K, but I'll gladly take this Anniversary edition.
Great job, as usual. TY MM! The 25 Year Boxster (718) is worth it in my eyes. Love the wheels & gold bits. Needs a new exhaust. BTW, MM, where is the Porsche belt?
HA! Kumo was wearing it that day:)
Good stuff as usual. Hope to see you in East Texas again soon.
Need to get back there again . . . that collection has gotten some new stuff I need to drive!
The car that saved the marque.
I wish that were the case. Sadly, it was the Cayenne.
@@MotoManTV Think both contributed.
Sorry, but for $100k, I'm buying a spyder with the GT tune and suspension. This car should have included those details plus the power top and it would have been a real winner. Right now it's just a puzzling, overpriced Boxster GTS.
not a problem for rich people
@Serial Spanker My friend just got a 2022 Spyder allocation without much drama. Just shop around, that is unless you are trying for a new GT3... I was on the hunt myself but decided to go with a Carrera T (manual of course) and I love it!
@Serial Spanker sorry to hear that. It's highly dependent on the dealer here in the US. Sometimes allocations are easier at the smaller dealers. You'll love the GTS, it's an amazing car and 98% of a GT car - enjoy!
@@MrSchn3ll That would have been quite the spec! Take the GTS 4.0, but throw in the Spyder engine tune, Spyder suspension, and short throw gear leaver, but keep the GTS 4.0 automatic roof, real door handles, and the look shown here. That would be one hell of car and one everyone would want. I also prefer the red taillights shown here over the tinted/clear tail lights on the GTS 4.0 and Spyder.
Love the Porsche
I fly a 981 boxster s and love it. I so wish I could have your car, but noooooo. I only wish I could afford the Spyder, but again again, nooo. Still my car is wonderful 😁 Love your reviews.
Love the wheels.
Nice car, I wish the brake calipers would match the roof.
You're absolutely right, six cylinders is the only way to go with the 718. That said, maybe some mad man take advantage of Porsche's new program and request a V8 one ... Maybe even go a step further and bring the LeMans Legend concept to life. ;)
That new program is a license to get what we finally want . . .
Nice..
The more I watch. P cars get more appealing. From Amg fan
I was a hard core Lotus guy when I started doing this. Now? What Lotus?
I'd like to know how much it's grown in the beltline from the gen 1 car. Probably more than 2.5 inches.
You can also get the car in black or white metallic.
I don't understand why they don't understand that the upper side of the cockpit should be in black because of the reflexions in the windscreen like always.
I really like this. Is there a 718 that will approximate it as I probably couldn’t get a Boxter 25 Years proper?
Well yes... it is basically identical to the Boxster GTS 4.0
👍👌
love the meat analogy!
My Master Chef buddy Noah was the inspiration.
Sounds like an awesome piece of kit!
I guess my Prius would be analogous to a hamburger
Great video! But re: the options game, it actually also comes in Carrara white or jet black, black interior and also black top as well. Also the coloured tops (blue, red, brown) on the Boxster are no charge even on the base model.
Spider please
Worth every penny…the Boxster is THE best Porsche for driving…with the 4.0 and limited production, that 100k+ won’t get much cheaper…gorgeous…HOWEVER, if they were to change anything on this…the stereo…base stereo sucks. Bose isn’t much better. Porsche needs a better high end stereo for those two or three minutes during a drive you want to hear your favorite song instead of that sweeeeet sounding flat 6!!!
My 2020 Spyder was a lot cheaper than this car. I hate my manual roof but for $15,000 less I can live with it.
Deposit paid!!
How old does an anniversary car feel already one year later? 😄
Who do order keyless entry on a Boxster, Cayman or 911? 800USD for something that enjoys car thieves more than the driver. Just put the key in the lock by yourself like it is supposed to be!
Wait… what? (Not giving it back to Porsche)
Trying to think of something pleasant to say..... but can’t. Can you block you tubers?
Funny, works both ways.
He needs to redo this video as the spec he is reading out is TOTALLY wrong! 🤣🤣 how can he fail like that?
Huh? It comes in white, Black or silver, not “only silver” and can be optioned with a black interior too, not “only red”. Repeat to fade on so many of the specs. What book it he reading from? It’s totally wrong information!! 😂😂😂
Those gear ratios are why I cancelled my order! They destroy an otherwise amazing drivetrain.
Sorry Motoman, but I have to put this channel on probation. I feel that I see more Porsche reviews on this channel then I see cars at the nearby Beverly Hills Porsche-Audi dealership. #TooMuch
Here's the reality of the situation: You guys just don't watch the episodes featuring other cars. Gets worse when it is something 'more affordable'. Proof? ua-cam.com/video/nGZisUJTJ6s/v-deo.html and ua-cam.com/video/lYIGsHo_u24/v-deo.html and ua-cam.com/video/WnyAU3OfgJs/v-deo.html and . . . You get my point. Would LOVE to feature more cars - and yes, classics as well, but the numbers don't lie.
The turbos weigh a lot actually. The GTS 4.0 does weigh more, but not too much.
For manuals, curb weights:
1. 2021 Boxster (base): 3,020lbs
2. 2021 Boxster S: 3,071lbs
3. 2021 Boxster GTS 4.0: 3,156lbs
