NEW Porsche Boxster 25 Review: The Car That SAVED Porsche | 4K
Вставка
- Опубліковано 3 жов 2024
- Decades ago, Porsche was on the brink of collapse. But then it invented the Boxster and its fortunes changed completely. To celebrate that car's introduction, Porsche has built a special edition Boxster 25, with all the tastiest bits, to pay homage to the original concept car. Rory takes it for a spin to see if it's all it's cracked up to be.

Carwow used to be my go to, Autotrader was a bit dry, but Rory has changed that, absolute legend. i know he's been there a while but just wanted to comment , Great job, Rory is the game changer
💯
Tbh at least Autotrader was never as corrupt as Carwow. Matt used to be a good reviewer a long time ago but success seemingly got to him. Nowadays Carwow's all about making money, shameless promotions, any excuse to get more comments and the most biased reviews in the world. And by god are their jokes annoying as hell (no offense if you like them, but I find them cringe af).
Thankfully, Autotrader's here for actually good car videos.
@@TD1237 I agree about Matt and Carwow but it’s not working, they are losing shed loads of money!!
Spot on!
I think the BBC put him on anti sedative pills on Top Gear.
I love how you always just ignore the rainy UK weather when reviewing a convertible.
I take this seriously
As a huge boxster fan, thanks for a great review Rory, if you haven’t driven a boxster you are missing out on a truly special car.
It cracks me up when people show the 90s in sepia-toned grainy footage like the Kennedy assassination or something. The times weren't *that* primitive - a simple reduction to 480*480 resolution would send the same message more accurately. 🙂
Nice video. I’ve been a fan of the Boxster ever since my first one. I’ve owned every iteration since. I had an original 2.5 986, two 987 Boxster S, a 981 3.4 and now a 718 Spyder. Non of them are a poor man’s anything. The Spyder with decent spec is £100k!
Nice, the 718 Spyder is a beauty.
@@camerondudley2 981 Spyder here, 15 years of 987S ownership.
Great review and history lesson from the most Color Coordinated Car Guy period!
The car is flat out beautiful and sounds fantastic, Boxter has aged very well, hmmmm, imagine it in electric...
Boxster 25 with white paint, black interior, black roof, and Neodyme accents are amazing looking!
I don't think I've ever seen a Rory review of a soft top when it hasn't been raining.
Rory, I salute you. You are about the only car presenter who is fully trust. You are a joy to watch.
I just saw Porsche in the headline and clicked immediately.
Rory, one of my fave presenters! TG lost out when they didnt get you back ! LOVE what your doing. Sudded just for rory!
*you're is the contraction of you are, not your. Why don't you know that?
@@markfox1545 why are you so sad that you need to go around the internet correcting people's grammar. More to the point why does it even bother you ???. Mark I think you need a girlfriend 😂😂😂😂
@@markfox1545 get a life mark lmao
Rory, you inspire me, man. Keep up the great work! Greetings from Brazil 🇧🇷
Love the piece of history and well said: The Boxster is more " Porsche " than the 911 itself ! But most people don't recognize that !
I still find it incredible that, we in the UK, apparently buy MORE convertibles & cabriolet models than any other country...
With OUR weather...????
Having said that, when I ran a classic MG Midget a good few years ago now, despite it having basically no heater output, I too would have the roof down in all weathers... 🤣
Thing is our weather is perfect for convertibles. If you’ve ever driven one in 30 degree heat, having the top down gets old and very hot fast (not to mention you get burnt to a crisp if you don’t put suncream on). Give me 5-25 degrees. Heated seats on a crisp dry day any day.
@@Q22ube That's so true. I bought a Miata a couple years ago as a summer car. But I soon realized that driving it in early Spring and Autumn was way more fun.
2006 boxster S. driven in..... day night, winter to summer, rainbows, sunsets, top down.....westside Oahu Hawaii. bikini babes COULD , is troubling sometimes, but wifey and daughters agreed not to press charges!! Exemption waived , to hot,and self defense, car+babes = hot!!! I'm innocent!!!aloha, ain't lying.!!
Rory, it's always a pleasure to watch your presentation on the automotive movement. My favorite is the Audi RS E-Tron GT. Big fan. always watching for more. Thanks Rory, I hope to meet you some day.
Your reviews are always so enjoyable, packed with excellent content and brilliant delivery. I watch reviews for cars I have ZERO interest in just because it's fun to hear your thoughts and learn more. Cheers
Man I really fucking love rory Reid. Regardless of how good he is tho, putting him on topgear is like trying to replace micheal on the office, no matter who ever came, everyone was gonna be disappointed.
Perfect analogy, mate.
Disagree, Rory has been and is sensational and entertaining journalist for Autotrader. But, I can't help but feel he was asked to play a cool/hip down with the youths character on TopGear and to me; it just came off as ungenuine, dudes like 40 (see that episode where he modified the RR Silver Shadow and you'll probably get the cringefest vibes I am talking about). For the record, if you look Chris Harris and see how he acts on Topgear and it is quite clear someone at BBC is asking them to put on personas to relate to a national audience and its making top tier car Journos seem frankly a little daft. I couldn't imagine Rory of Topgear talking about gearing, however he probably would talk about how the gold wheels look like a rappers chain.
I agree. His own style didn’t fit Top Gear, but damn he is truly amazing here on Autotrader
Rory, we need you to do more film like videos. Like the 812 Superfast Great Escape. It was like watching a movie. AT does one of the best cinematography in the game.
This was a masterpiece 👏, I agree
I love the Boxster. I miss my 987s. Still my favourite car I've owned.
Rory, keep up the excellent work!
Great to see Rory weekly (or more) basis, rather than waiting for eternity for a new Top Gear episode to be released.
Great review, Rory - as always. Love your channel. Cheers from New Zealand.
Another great review from Rory, keeping the faith. Well done 👍
As I am early to comment, I might have a chance to get this noticed:
Those rims are extremely beautiful, perfectly fitting to the nineties theme of the car.
Nobody talks about these wheels, but I think they are one main highlight of this car in terms of design
Agreed. Very fitting design element. I also love the neodymium color. Could do without the red interior but the exterior is top notch. Well done, Porsche.
I like them too, but it seems that there only people that like them, and people that hate them. At least everybody talks about them :) lol. My best friend doesn't like them much either. I do. Luckily, seeing as I am waiting for delivery of my 25... But I couldn't get the wife to like the red interior... So I compromised. Black interior with red stitching and a red top :)
Rory and autotrader, for me, have become my go to resource for automotive news. Great review. Carwow, 🙄🙄🙄🙄🙄🙄🙄🙄🙄
carwow is good for the more crazy stuff, like drag races and stuff like that, which is helpful for people who wanna actually drive their cars. they also do reviews, which are OK, but nothing is better than autotrader, especially with rory.
@@meuwoo carwow's review are shallow and frankly pointless. Matt's personality has one gear, uncouth....
@@ivbeentrollxd1298 yeah maybe, but thats just my opinion, of which i respect yours
Red roof looks amazing😍
Best car reviewer on UA-cam. Good work Rory!
Let's hope that 25 years from now the boxster 50 will be unveiled!
Another great review by Rory
Appreciate the review. Although I like the 25, I too prefer Guard’s red but I like the 5-spoke Cayman S wheels (silver)- which is what I have. It’s a classic look.
Beautiful vehicle spec, I absolutely love the look. Retro but with a modern aggressive style.
Well that’s just lovely. Great job Rory and team.
How many of these will be bought and hidden away in a temperature controlled garage for the next 25 years? Rory, Excellent review as ever Sir👍
Love this Boxster 25 edition!!! Ill have one anyday
Awesome car. Nice video. Keep up the good work.
I love these wheels so much
I used to have a boxster S, amazing car 🚙 great review Rory !!
I just came from watching the new Mercedes AMG SL reviews. What a great year for top downs. ✨✨✨
That Mercedes looks amazing :D
Don’t like all that poor man’s 911 nonsense. Always liked this car. Think it looks great and love this spec. Usually I don’t like red interiors like this, but I’m this car, it works for me.
Great review by Rory as always, even for boring car such as the boxster, looks like something the Toyota MR2 would look like if it was made today
Love the gold wheels.
Your shirt matched the interior. I almost didn't know you were in the car. Besides that, the wheels on the 25 are not great. I remember the concept on debut. Ahhhhhhh... that was great, the follow-up production models was even better. What a fabulous car that is better (most would agree) than the 911. Not that I care, I would still take the 911 for overall looks and heritage, but the 718 GTS would disappoint no one. No one. Unless they are spoiled enough to own a Aston Martin DBS or something along those pedigrees. The Boxster helped Porsche recover but the Cayenne sealed the deal and allowed them to continue making both Boxters and 911s.
Really nice Boxster, first one that peaked my interest.
I remember when Jay-Z had the Boxster in “Street is watching” music video 🔥🔥🔥🤙🏾🤙🏾🤙🏾
not a word on price because...it's free to take maybe ?!
Honestly this is the Porsche I would get if I was ever able to get one
Wait if you haven't driven a boxster in 10 years then you haven't driven the Spyder. You should rectify that, the 718 Spyder is phenomenal.
Enjoying your review more than any other! Quick question. What are your perfect two car collection? 😊
Can't fall in love with the rear end of recent Boxters. The original production models were much cleaner and more elegant. The concept was absolutely lovely and I never understood why they didn't keep it.
“…that saved Porsche!” That would be the Cayenne actually
Porsche were in serious trouble right before the Boxster arrived. Tough, the arrival of the Cayenne did help Porsche enormously to push Itself forward as a pretty big car manufacturer.
There wouldn't have been a Cayenne, if the Boxster had not been released... Cayenne helped Porsche solidify it's position though.
Rory has grown into a great presenter
Im a fan of the rims
Yet another great video from Rory
Like NAS said “look sick up in that Boxter Porsche”...it does look sick indeed.
In the last 30 to 40 years, has there ever been a convertible, that was designed and made as a convertible, that has been as perfect as the Boxster? Apart from maybe the Mazda MX5?
@@squicker S2000's a good call. Very good call. With a, as far as I recall, stupidly high rev limit. 10k RPM!!?? 8-))...
That 80's Red interior is going to date BADLY...
Agree..guards red and black 19's........i do have a dog in the race but it is the best colour combination IMHO
A wonderful car and one that as a second car for me would need to be considered
What can I say Rory, you have the vein in my blood boiling, Some how you get me to like Cars I would Never consider Ever to drive or look at twice, yet you are able to get me thinking of it, 😲 wow, awesome video, plus I didn't know it was the Biter that save Porsche, I thought it was the Cayanne, mann forgive the spelling Bro, thanks again for an incredible video.
Rory is smashing it 💥
Would've been awesome if they used the tasty rear half from the 550 concept.
i honestly love the design and the colorsceme on this one
Can you please do a special video of your journey through the channel 🙏🏽
I just got rid of a Cayman unfortunately, would love another porsche one day !!
Maybe the boxster??
I love all the red!
I never Miss your videos...🤟🤟
I'll take a manual Cayman GT4 any day over a 911 or a boxter. I'll put an aftermarket shortened gear ratio to create the perfect driving machine.
Do you know how much those "aftermarket shortened" gear ratios are? You'd better be sitting down when they hand you the invoice.
never knew the Boxster saved the great Porsche... Always found the 911 to be the one and only Porsche... still do...
rory with the two tone rolex daydate :D.
Rory vs mat foot race!
Matt sucks
He doesn't want that smoke
@@seemaprathapan7354 Mat Watson?
Abay yes matt watson
I agree that Matt isn’t the best reviewer out there. He makes unnecessarily stupid jokes and carwow’s production quality isn’t just good for 6 million subs. I mean come on AutoTrader has way less subs yet their production quality just blows carwow out of the water.
I'm a fan, love the colours.
Nostalgia is an expensive hobby
Superb reviewer.
Black wheels ? ? ? What's that about ?
Another great review, Rory! I want one!
You want him to review you?
Love the look of it, inside and out
Agree Rory does a really good job about cars
Top gear should of kept him with Chris Harris instead of those other clowns
The Boxster 25 has the shorter stick shift from the Porsche Spyder. That's an improvement over the regular GTS, plus it comes with all the extra options ( all limited edition models do). Plus the paint has several extra layers than the regular GTS. Making it in my opinion, the best Boxster in the history of Porsche cars....
Where is the proof that it comes with the shorter stick shift from the Spyder?
Or "extra layers" of paint?
@@ScullyD-ee9jk I own one . It does come with the short shifter from the gt4. It’s in the specs on the 25th website and several reviews including the Porsche club of America one reference it
@@passingthrough812 I haven’t heard about extra paint ….
Nice color matching rory
I wonder how Carfection succed to make video in England with ok or nice wetaher while most of the videos on this chanel got rain almost all the time
Sweet ride. Would love one, eyeballing the slowest one, but with 4cyl seems a no go to me.
Go for a 981 !
@@Digitalstar3 Thanks for suggestion! Don't care about speed all that much, just to drop the top, and enjoy the ride and 6cyl sound...
@@Digitalstar3 I'm going 987.2 bc smaller and still has hydraulic steering
@@papa_pt I had a 981 until recently... Don't let the electric steering get in the way. There is very little difference between the 981's electric steering and the 987's hydraulic. It is still quite precise and gives you more than enough feedback. If you go 987, be wary about the IMS bearing issue that also plagued some of these cars.
@@delphi069 yeah it's never about the precision but the feedback. I think all 987.2 fixed IMS.. bc I already have a big power car in my e61, my dream boxster is probably the base 2.9 which is even port injected (one less maintenance item)
The pdk doesn't get rid of the problem of long gearing. There have been numerous reviews covering this issue.
Nobody said it did, they say the gearing issues are improved due to extra ratio.....
@@alanwayte432 listen carefully 5.24
I like your style.
The rims are why I fell for this car
Boxter saved them first and then the Cayenne, then right now the taycan is the third savior long Live Porsche.
Anyone pushing poor man’s 911 narrative is putting out serious small P energy.
Isn't the rain getting into the car?
The Boxster is a great car, but it was actually the Cayenne that saved Porsche and made it the most profitable carmaker per unit…back then that is.
718 is doomed, so it makes sense to badge as Boxster 25 with the 4.0 flat six naturally aspirated engine, that engine is far superior to the bolt on in the 718. The ultimate Porsche must come in the guise of an NA 4.0 litre flat six, that engine is pure craftsmanship, power is delivered by the engine rather than blowers. Now that’s superiority similar to fine wine! Kudos to Porsche for bringing back the NA engine.
The turbo 6 they have across the 911 lineup is great. No one wants to listen to a flat 4 (there are exceptions) turbo or not
those wheels are meant for the Boxster . . . the very design of the alloy wheels in the PORSCHE 718 Boxster 25 (928) RWD + 0.5 in. Lift 4.0 iTurbo F6 2-Dr Grand Touring Cabriolet (LHD) has enough character that further enhances the car's image . . .
the wheelbase is longer than the wheelbase on a 911. (991 that is)
So the comment about a „short“ wheelbase seems odd.
At the moment, I get the feeling Mclaren could do well with having a "Boxster" of their very own...
Have you noticed Rory is always flying above 120km in all car reviews and multi task at the same time...
I love my boxster ❤️
Mate this car doesn’t have the PDCC 😅
No. That's indeed only for the 911. This one has PASM and it has the sportchrono package.
I don’t know what all the hype is about Porsches, they don’t do it for me. Just like everyone is on about Ferraris, they don’t float my boat! Each to his own, I say.
Have you ever driven a Porsche? I was like you before... Didn't like the styling of 911 much, and the older boxsters (before the 981) I was not much of a fan of either. I was more into American Muscle, and bought myself a Corvette C5 convertible. Then when the 981 came, I was in the market for a new sportscar, I test drove a few. Mercedes SLK 55 AMG, Jaguar F-type, tried to get a testdrive with a C7, but none were available. Then I drove a 981 Boxster, and I was immediately sold. It drives so beautifully. It feels very solid on the road and is very well built. And it sounded great, even if it wasn't as fast as the Corvette. So I bought a 981 2.7 PDK with quite a few options, among which one you don't see a lot on these 2.7's, the sportdesign kit, which made it look like a GTS. And now I am into Porsche, and am now waiting for my next to be delivered. So, indeed each his own. But I'd like to know, what cars are you into then?
3:14 Criticizes the look of the car then proceeds to wear matching apparel
I wonder how you drive with the top off while raining and not getting wet
Quite easy... It's called aerodynamics :) Basically, the wind and rain hit the windscreen, then follow the aerodynamics of the car, and that makes sort of a buddle around the cabin. If you look carefully, you see that the rollbars do get wet a little. The faster he drives, the less rain he will get inside. If you have back seats, those would be wet :) Problem is when you need to stop though... lol Btw... there was an old episode of Topgear where they tested this, if I'm not mistaken. And I believe it was done with a 911.
How is the Nissan leaf? Are you still liking it
For sure.. we've got a range test planned for you soon :)
Am waiting for that as well!
Let's go Brandon
The original speed line wheels were just perfect, the new ones just aren’t as well designed
