  • Last of the reviews I filmed before everything changed: Serious, solid beast of a knife, on par with some fixed blade drop point bushcraft knives. But how's the martial potential?
Channel update to come, stay tuned.

Myself, I absolutely luv my 4-Max Scout, 4-Max, and 5-Max Heavy-Duty Folders. I use mine as backup to my Emergency Fixed Blades that I carry, everyday, in my Weapons, Get Home, and Bugout Bags. I totally trust them. It's hard to beat their Heavy-Duty construction and their super strong, Andrew Demko, Tri-Ad Lock. And, like you, I find that these aren't SDUEDC Folders that you carry everyday, due to their size and weight. But, in my opinion, they're the best Backpack, Emergency, Folders. Another great discussion Video! :-) Peace, Stiletto :-)

Proud to say that I managed to grab one of the last available USA made 4max folders a few years back.

Another great instruction video ,all questions answered for me at least and definitely one to add to my wish list ,I quite fancy this for my edc but of course I am British so not much chance of carrying anything that would cover everything I want in a knife .Thank you for your time effort and skills .Always a pleasure to listen to you and learn.

Ive got two left. I had six at one time. Kept two. One for work and one for the Jeep console. Every time somebody at work or a friend ised it they were like, " dang thats a handfull, id love to have one" so I've given away 4. Even one to my daughter for her purse, just in case. Great all around tool in my opinion.

Love both my 4Max Scouts, the old black one is in a drawer though as I now carry my desert tan version due to the newer handle materials. Less checkering bordering on a finer grit sandpaper experience; read that as easier on the old pockets. I do use a snake knot lanyard and a Snaggletooth on my EDC version making the draw a lot quicker. Now I do add a couple of .015" thick fiber washers under the clip to lessen the pocket grab further. The washers are from my other hobby, and are available from a company called Kadee, part #208, non metallic and they hold up great.

I like the 4Max Scout also ,but it is a heavy beast and although I adjusted the pocket clip as a defense knife it falls short in the most important area and that's the thrusting department and moving in hand.
But it can do it all just not as good as it slices and chops. 😊

If you have a gun to deal with medium and long-range threats, then a small folding knife will be one of the good choices for close defense equipment. I have a spartan and an AK47, both of which can be opened quickly and can easily penetrate the target.
However, Black Talon 2 and Tiger Claw should also be good choices. That folding knives have a special shape but can make a bigger wound.

I agree, drop point in general are not really meant for martial applications. They will do if you have nothing else. Still love the knife though. :) I'm looking into the Cold Steel Bush Ranger in S35VN, a clip point that might just be what the doctor ordered as a martial alternative. Smallish yet stabby and tough.

Yeah , Bushmaster and Bushmaster Lite
I have the Bushmaster on the way (@Last) and it seems it would be a phenomenal EDC and be a good defense folder as well with the clip point design.
Bushmaster I think is going to be a winner for a multi purpose EDC. 😊

A excellent pocket chopper and although
I really like it (souch I he 2) it's a untity folder and too combersome for defense, but it well work if it's what you have. 😊

I have the 4Max Scout and I like it a lot. Enough that I bought the 5Max. The upgrade in materials is nice but honestly I think I may like the size of the 4Max better.

Personally, i think this one would be best carried in a belt sheath. That heavy and thick is going to take up a lot of space in pocket.

With that extra hole, you could lash it to a stick and have a spear.

I bought one and think it’s a very well made knife, but DAMN is it hard to disassemble! 😡

I wear gloves when doing any type of utility work with this knife or any other blade. It totally eliminates any hotspots what so ever. I mean, if I'm at home or in the woods I always have available leather gloves. Even more importantly its safer if you were to lose grip and your hand was to hit the blade. I always carry a knife, just because, now if I was to ever need my knife in a self defense situation, highly doubt, I'd have no gloves, but at that point I'm not gonna be worried about hotspots lol. Just seems silly not to wear gloves while doing utility work. In my opinion.

I usually only put on gloves (begrudgingly) when I'm working with thorny stuff, mystery rubbish that might have sharps in it, caustics, red-hot items, live current, or when I'm required to use universal precautions, and then things rarely end well. I have a weird sensory thing that when I put on gloves that cover my fingers, I can't feel anything with my hands (unless something stabs, cuts or smashes me through the glove) which kills my fine motor coordination and ends up making me more prone to injury and accidents. So I'm the idiot who scrapes snow and ice off his car with his bare hands.
