- Emmett and Katie came up with such a beautiful arrangement of "Down to the River to Pray," a traditional gospel song that Alison Krauss famously recorded for the 2000 movie "O Brother, Where Art Thou?". The fun interlude at 1:45 was Katie's idea.
We try to match our songs to locations and it can take a little while for the song, venue, and lead singer to all come together at the same time! Sometimes we also have to wait for the leaves to return to the Ozarks, the heavy rains to stop, or Julianne to come back from college.

@Htrac "Just any live folk music," I think not. This particular song touched my soul by the way it was sung. If the song was sung by another artist, it wouldn't have the same feeling.

I loved Emmylou's and Allison's version of this song from Oh Brother, where art Thou.
But then I heard THIS.
These young ladies are really something special.
Emmylou, and Allison AND Gillian Welch, who sang lead.
One of the most beautiful things about bluegrass music is that there’s never really a “lead singer.” Everybody takes turns and harmonizes with each other. There’s never really a “lead guitar” either - everybody gets their own solo.
I was adopted, I found out later in life that my biological family are popular evangelical singing performers. I mostly missed the boat with the talent that they have in them .... however, I sang this song most nights to the 3 children I raised alone. This rendition absolutely brings tears to my eyes. The great Allison Krauss and her band introduced this song to me during the Soggy Bottom Boys/Oh Brother Where Aren't Thou craze. It was my go to.. I sang this song most nights and my children (now late 20's) still, to this day remember this song I sang with my ♥. I am so proud of this talented family. I can hardly listen to them without getting emotional! BRAVO!

Being from Nashville (born, raised and still here) it it so refreshing to hear honest folk music. Thank you for this. I miss this sound so much. I genuinely grew up listening this style of country/gospel. It brightens my soul to know that this style is still alive and well. Sing on!

I think what will grow out of the ashes of this currently burning world will be a heightened spiritual attitude- not so much 1 religion, rather a mutual respect for each others beliefs while we walk our own path with integrity, responsibility, and compassion

I never saw the movie but I did come across it on UA-cam music and saw the movie cover was the thumbnail used for the song. And Idk how I didn't see this one coming considering it's an Allison Krauss song. I know they grew up listening to her music so the fact they caught me off guard with this song makes me feel disappointed in myself

I used to sing with my brother. Our voices were close enough to make us sound harmonically wonderful. These sisters have that ability. When they sing together, it's as if their voices mingle and are cuddling. Thank you for sharing with the world.

The Peterson family show people the positiveness of having faith in Christ . They are good witnesses to Gods great way. This song is about Baptism confirming the individual persons faith , love and commitment to Christ . Its wonderful.
My daughter was ready to be baptized but waited until summer so she could be baptized in the river. She wanted to honor her grandmother who was baptized the same way. She played this on the way there and home.

All three young ladies have distinct voices Ellen has the power voice , Julianne has a lyrical voice (look up Gordon Lightfoot) and Katie voice sounds like a soft summer rain, separately they all have beautiful voices but when they sing together well it's magical

I've only watched a few of their videos, so I would assume Julianne is the young lady in the white shirt. I think her voice is my favorite out of the 3, even though she is shy and seems to hold back. I love the yodel in her voice

First of all, I wanted to emphasize that, this time, the musical basis is given by only three instruments: dobro, guitar and double bass. But these three instruments, and the professionalism of those who play them, accompany the singing with an absolute sweetness that reaches perfection. Then the voices of Katie, Ellen and Julianne, each one with her different and particular timbre, as it is even more than other times, reach incredible sonorities. Both alone and in harmonizations, they manage to convey that atmosphere of beauty and purity that the same song (of Baptism) inspires. Once again I got really moved. Thanks. Roberto 🙏❤

I'm not a religious person but these harmonies are indeed heavenly. Julieanne's voice is sweet and winsome, Ellen's is earthy and strong, Katie's is soft and soulful. The guys and mom are great but these three lovely young women are the beating heart of the Petersen's.

When I saw the name of the song in this video I was overjoyed! I said to myself, here comes some fantastic harmonies and I was right! Sibling harmonies are always good but the Petersens are in a class by themselves! Well done!
This is so appropriate to deliver a message to Christians that for something important with time constraints even if beautifully sung, Christians and all folk need to help each other and only then pray about guidance. So I keep listening to your fantastic three-part delivery of a song that I had always respected at church. The message can not be delivered so much nearly perfectly sung.
Now the Petersens have the best presentation of "Down to the River to Pray" that I could imagine and the symbolism in the song is good for all Christians and others to hear and to contemplate upon.

Listening to this song for probably the 50th time it occured to me that some people who are cynical would say that you are doing a good job of "selling" this song with sincerety. But what you are doing is an incredible of "living" this song in every look, every nuance and expression! People are being saved with your music, of that I have no doubt!
I just attended your concert in Branson (28 July) with my son and my elderly uncle. I did not have time to participate in the meet and greet afterwards.
