Price tag starting well over $50K Pathetic 250 mile range. Took VW of America 2 years to water down the Euro version with US/ Chinese parts bin tech and interior. I will pass, this will have the same fate as the ID4. Life long VW owner here looking for a new brand
They can make a few quick buck as the first van EV in the US. But if you want quality and affordability, you sure do hope the Chinese EVs flooding the US market one day. That's Detroit's worst nightmare and American middle class's biggest blessing.
Really wish there was a hybrid version of this - no charging infrastructure where I live.
Hopefully it comes soon. I understand, our closest DCFC is about 45 minutes away, but we drove an ID.4 for over a year and charged at home 90% of the time. Always had a full battery, every morning.
Amazing ! A perfect family vehicle to shuffle kids around to activities in the suburbs and city . Cuts down on pollution .
They just announced pricing and range. $60k for 230 miles of range. Not very good....
I was very interested until you mentioned the battery power.
You didn't know it was an EV?
Neat vehicle but I liked it better on the first draft when the whole back section was about having tons of space.
I was tempted to buy one five years ago.
Looks great! Thanks for the review Jim!
Your welcome! Did you get your Ocean yet?
@@offtheshelfrides . Actually we canceled our order last August. There was to many concerns we worried about with the Ocean and honestly, we felt we were not going to be happy with the interior meaning the lack of storage like the glove compartment. We got a different EV. We got the Mustang Mach-E Performance Dark Pony 2023 edition. It is such a great car!
Yes it is. We had a premium for a few months after our id.4. The only thing we didn't like was the eye tracker! Lol
It looks like the Ocean has been having major issues! Not sure how the live stream went after I left, but I think they wanted me out anyway, I was "the voice of reason" they were becoming Fanboys.
@@offtheshelfrides I always thought you were too. I don't remember the last time I went to the live stream! But yes I agree....names that won't be mentioned but I know you know, were way to much fanboys! Honestly it is hard to hear the ones that names will not be mentioned, be in some kind of "bubble" world.
Good to talk to you, I hope you are enjoying the content. I have an video coming tomorrow that might interest you. It's all the EVs from the Auto Show.
Have a great weekend!
I am 100% all in I want the long version in black and white and the version with most “style” and comfort
It is pretty cool and unique!
Looks awesome. I think the issues are going to be price and availability initially. I’m glad they have the more powerful motors now. I’m not a fan of the infotainment system with sliders instead of knobs and buttons, but I doubt that will affect sales.
The sliders and haptic feedback button are easy to get used to. We had an ID.4 for over a year, we got used to them pretty quickly
This is going to save VW. Awesome job. I still like the ICE's for the most part, but if I was to lease an EV, it would be this one. Not sure I would buy? After warranty, then what? That is the big question.
I agree, I don't think this would be a long term vehicle for me. I would lease it.
@@offtheshelfrides Yes, you honestly have to think about the life of the battery, the complex electronics cost if they go Kaput after warranty. I fear it would cost more to repair than to scrap.
When will it go on sale in the US?
Should be late Fall
dont care much about the wood like or soft touch stuff or panoramic roof - I CARE ABOUT THE PRICE
In that case, you should have fifty thousand bucks ready to spend. It has never been a mystery to how much the price is.
If VW makes a 75% scale version ... I’m in.
The shorter, 2 row wheelbase is made for Europe
262 miles is terrible, but I like the look of it.
5:20 these car manufacturers need to get over the sloping rear roof design, level tops make more room
Depends on how much range you want.
I am not really finding any reviews on how much storage there is with the seats down. A lot of people use vans for hauling sports gear and sleeping in on occasion. (think surfboards, kayaks bikes) So not all van users are interested in how many children and sticky toys you can haul around. Same goes for minivans. How about having sex in it? To all those people commenting that 260 miles is not enough, it is much larger and less aero dynamic than most electric cars. If it charges to 80 percent in a half an hour you could charge it for lunch and drive for four hours in the morning at 65. I think those people have never really owned an electric car. We are all going to die from global warming so just maybe a slight inconvenience might be worth the trouble ehh? My electric cars are charged 100% off my roof top solar when in town.
Yes, 260 miles is plenty. I always try to explain it as, 260 miles is just over 4hrs of driving. I don't know many people that can drive for 4hrs without having to stop for a bathroom break. I'm lucky to push 2 1/2 hrs before needing the bathroom. In that 15 min bathroom and snack break, you can add another 70-100 miles....
I have checked a few places where I get my info from and none if the state the total cargo size.
Way too much money. Would rather spend 55k on a Chevy Tahoe.
250 miles on a battery charge is ridiculous...that's maybe..5 hours. No Bueno
I have to stop every couple of hours to use the bathroom. You just plug it in while you use the bathroom and grab snacks. Add another 50 miles that way and away you go! If you can drive for 5 hours without stopping, EV or ICE, your a BOSS!
Make it hybrid petrol. Electric does not have enough range.
It has enough range for me to drive until I have to use the restroom. Which is about 2 hours max or 120-150 miles, charge while you relieve yourself, get snacks and a drink. 15 min later you add another 50 miles to the remaining 100 miles and drive for another 150 miles...it has plenty if range...in my opinion
It's an electric mini van that get 250 miles to the charge. Not impressive. Major letdown from the concept. You can't even do a proper road trip with that mileage.
250 isn't too bad. Our ID.4 only had 250 and it worked fine for us, but being a van I get it. It should have 300
@@offtheshelfrides250 is horrible because that is best scenario number. Highway driving the range will go under 200. Horrible. You need a base range of 350 these days with the horrible charging infrastructure the USA has right now
No. The price is 2x what you can get an ICE mini van for and 30% too high to have any mass appeal. I've waited 20 years for this van, through at least 4 prototypes and we knew from the beginning this van would be priced out of the atmosphere. $59,995 for the base version is fully ridiculous. The only people buying the id.buzz are going to be orthopedic surgeons and hedge fund managers. Pass.
With recent pricing and range numbers, we are all disappointed...
260 miles is pathetic
Just depends on how and where you use it
Front grill looks hideous...🤮
It doesn't have one...lol
Then what is the egg crate crap styling in the front called?
Aero-venting to reduce drag and increase range
as predicted another fail, the reason you have 7 0r 8 seaters is to transport that number and their luggage ....so fail fail fail
So do you think it should only be 2 rows?
That's true for some people, but not everyone. For us, we usually want three people and a bunch of stuff, but also the option of chucking the grandparents in when they visit and we're all going out to dinner/whatever.
Some version of that is pretty common, I think; I know a lot of 2 kid families with minivans.
