American (Texan) here with a wife, 37 kg dog, a 1.75m tall 14 year old on the golf team, a 13 and a 5 year old…definitely looking for something larger than our current Mach E. But this Buzz, “massive” in Europe, is like mid-size in the US. Eyeing a Suburban right now- it’s almost 6m long.
This is the best surprise, coming back exhausted from a walk and finding not one but TWO Electroheads videos (if you haven't seen the one on the Dutch opening manoeuvre, go look for it because ... I believe it was filmed in the GTX! Although you were wearing red ...). Full marks to Eilìs for presenting a vehicle I was unconvinced about, and make it likeable. You made it worth for VW to sponsor the trip ... I also liked how you "skimmed" on the things we may hate (like the capacitive touch lights panel) and for underlining that FINALLY a car manufacturer has listened that most of us are "buttons and knobs" people. I also love how you manage your script "because I'm basically driving a fridge freezer" (8:23) said without making it sound rehearsed. And finally, that wind protection fluff for the Rode is supercute (matching the mike, white for your outfit). Wolkswagen if you're listening, give Electroheads a Buzz for a long-term test, like 2-3 weeks, so that they can bring bikes around, go trekking, go to the beach ... I know Kol-in-chief is in Vietnam at the moment, but I'm sure Eilis has enough friends to organise an outing. For science.
@@pauladams5673 I think the basic requirement is a bed, so this isn't a camper, just a 7 seater MPV. VW are planning a camper or so I heard, likely similar to previous VW campers with a raising roof/tent or sleepover etc. This video shouldn't have had Camper in the title, as fun and informative as it is, it misleads a little.
@@thomasbach-zy1kn No Offense, but do you have a camper? If you plan to sleep you'll probably want it to be dark, so you don't wake up at sunrise. Also, you might like a bit of privacy, and there is a lot of glass in this vehicle. It's cool, it has a niche, but it's not really for sleeping in. We have a converted Transit as a camper. It has some glass, but it doesn't have a dirty great glass sunroof that would need covering. While it's lined, it doesn't lose interior space to so much molding, and the interior of the Buzz is quite limited because of that.
Glad I dont have budget for this thing.....if I do, I would buy one before Eilis finished the video..... love the way Eilis presenting cars and electric bikes. ❤❤❤
I had an awd GMC Safari van that was basically a brick on wheels but I loved that thing. Perfect for snowboarding, mountain biking, and road tripping. Do we need to take this? Who cares, throw it in, we've got room lol. I've been waiting for an electric version of that van for years and this looks like the closest thing so far!
My ONLY concern is range for this type of vehicle. Says 280 miles...but we all know this will be closer to 200 in the real world with real world conditions and people in the boot...and a lot less in winter. Having said all that, these are beautiful looking vehicle! 🤩🤩
The reviews on this channel are great and the person presenting has the same blue eyes that I have which pulls me in just that little bit more!!! If you are thinking about going electric then this is the channel for you to make up your mind. Thanks.
Waiting the whole video for views from the scenic route in Germany. Then I saw the Hannover Airport sign at 17:22 and realized there couldn't be anyone around there 😅 Joke aside a very nice review!
I have an orange and white Buzz and love it. To be honest the power is all you need unless you are pulling big loads. Not sure about the GTX interior. My white and orange really adds to the charm. But I guess the GTX is more “serious”, it might look better in the flesh, or with a pano roof…
Door metals visible from the inside is not the greatest quality indicator for a vehicle ‘that costs twice as much as a golden bucket full of diamonds.’
Blow me down with a feather! This is the first time I found out, because of your video that the 'normal' wheelbase is available with opening rear door windows and climate control on the rear. Nobody has disclosed of this fact before!
VW official statement is that ID. Buzz based campervan (ID. California) will not be available for the next couple of years until the customer interest/demand is evaluated.
@@stefanyankov3801First the range needs to drastically improve. 250 miles not enough for a touring van. I drive and EV as my daily car but will wouldn't use one for holiday travel. Not enough range and not enough chargers.
I'm into it. It makes me want to have children, take up surfing and buy a dog just so I can justify all those seats. Otherwise it'll just be me, surrounded by empty chairs, deep in debt and crying uncontrollably in the work car park. Again. But it's not a true camper. I hope they make one. However I understand it might be a difficult problem to solve for an EV: the camper life encourages exploration and accessing remote locations and coastlines, where they wont be able to be charged. 😬
a 500kg payload averages to 70kg for each person, with no luggage. You really do need an active lifestyle to use it! It's about the same payload as the B segment cars I just had a quick check of.
I think I'm more Transporter than Buzz, but these do look really nice. Saw a few when I was down in Devon camping recently. A bit too car like for me, given we mostly have dogs in the back.
The magic sun roof is a very cool feature and the price doesn't actually seem that bad to me, like if you can buy a new car, they cost a lot of money and considering how much everything has gone up aswell since 2020. 😅I've not seen a blue one yet but green is the best of what I have 😂.
Great review Eilis. Not something I could afford to buy, but interested as to where electric vehicles are going. Eye watering prices push this type of vehicle to the well heeled adventure bracket. Hopefully we'll get more affordable EVs that have a decent range in the not too distant future. I wouldn't like to look at insurance cost for the Buzz either.
I would love if they mentioned servicing cost and repair parts cost in comparison to an ICE equivalent. If that’s full length rood window gets damaged i guess it will be wright off.
If I got my sums right 18.7kWh/100km is 3.3 miles/kWh which is pretty respectable, and a lot better than the 2.7m/kWh on the v1 SWB buzz. They did say it should be significantly more efficient, helped by having a heat pump. Those numbers fit with the 424km (265miles). Obviously this is a nice sunny day which helps, but that and the bigger batt should equate to some decent range. And 200kW peak charging (if you can find a fat enough charger!) is very nice. But no van version! Woe is me. Paying ~14grand for a load of seats and trim to rip out makes it prohibitively expensive for camper conversions. Grumble.
Thank you Eilis, nice to know you're also a knobs & buttons person(no reference to the US Office clip you added) and the stupid haptic 'buttons'. Kia EV9 and Rivian R1S are the obvious EV competition (though no sliding doors). Might be worth waiting for NACS next year though.
