Another timely topic for me. Just finished building a solid carbon OH rod with a spiral wrap. The blank is 6' long with a 9mm butt and 2mm tip. Believe it or not they get these fiberglass wrapped solid carbon blanks called "sutet" from the left over ends of high tension electrical cables. Gotta love Indonesia. I'm looking at buying a kastking bc reel just for this rod with a 7:1 ratio. I figure that'll be perfect for fast jigging with 80 to 150 gram jigs in maximum 150' water. I'm too old to slug it out with the 300-500 gram jigs down to 500 feet. I recently bought two kastking spinning reels, one of which is the live liner and I'm really impressed with the quality they're putting into these reels. Even the box is awesome!

Nice, tutorial here, so many others leave out parts of the A-Z. Few questions: Do you make your own tandem assist hook setups? If so, why do you use heat shrink all they way from the hook to the ring? I've see guys tout using hooks on both ends of the jig, to me that could make things messy and get hooks caught on your leader correct? Finally, any reason you don't use the modified/improved clinch knot? I've always used the improved, but I wonder if the extra bite in the knot could actually weaken it? Thank you.
Thanks for asking all your questions and watching and supporting the channel. When it comes to vertical jigging at a high speeds you only want to use that hook setup on the top if you use hooks on the top and the bottom you're more than likely to get snagged on your leader you are correct. I tend to use only a one hook set up on the top when high speed vertical jigging. The heat shrink is irrelevant you can have it all the way from the hook to the solid ring or just halfway or it can not be there at all. The Teflon line attaching your hook to your ring is what is essential. Finally when it comes to the clinch knot. I fished for well over three decades and have examined many different versions of the clinch knot and the original one which is just essentially seven wraps or six wraps and you pull it through the eyelet pinch loop is just as effective as any of the other versions I've seen. Hello so how do I know how many grams the rod can handle?cause it doesn’t normally say it handle 200-400 grams on spinning reel rods,so is there like specific rods that’s only used for vertical jigging ?cause I don’t know like how long the rod should be and how strong it should be for using a jig that’s like 100-250 feet of water
Thanks again for watching asking another great question. Most jigging rods do have the weight range that the rods are rated for. Yes, jigging rod blanks are constructed differently from standard spinning and conventional rods. However, f you don't have access to these, it's perfectly OK to use any rod. You'll want the lightest action rod you have, that way it'll pitch the jig properly. Then it will be a research process to figure out how heavy or light of a jig it will handle. Hope this helps. Hi Mickey, thanks for watching. You ask a great question. Usually you want to go all the way down, but the fish you are looking for are up in the water column, as opposed to slow jigging where you are bottom fishing. The reason you make ground contact is the stealth factor and natural look approach, stopping in the middle of the drop could spook feeding fish. Vertical jigging is not targeting fish at rest with and easy target... It's going for actively feeding fish, almost like trolling, but straight up from the bottom. Avi says "Hey there Mickey, how's the horses?" The girls all say "Hi" too. It's Spring time here, so the fishing bite is going to turn on. Thanks again for always being here. If you install an assist hook in the tail of the jig, will the game deteriorate?
