I use the regular clinch knot and the double surgeons knot, and that’s it. I’m so glad he’s shedding light on the simple knots and not glorifying knowing 8 hard-to-use knots. There’s no point. The basics work fine for what I’m fishing for.
If your gonna attempt a double surgeons knot for tippet, go easy on the booze the night before. Shaking hands in the morning make it damn near impossible, hahaha. No Uni Knot Ben? That's my go to.

Good information on knots. I use these three plus a loop knot for tapered leader to fly line. It’s small and the tag end can be trimmed close so it doesn’t catch in the guides. A shot of UV resin makes it even slicker.
ha, i tie blood knots down to 6.5 x --- now that's huge... also just listened to your call in to the Tailer Trash Podcast , so I'm going to start jumping on early Monday mornings to review your video...
Interesting choice for #3; I use the back to back uni-knot for larger lines in lieu of the blood knot. The BtBUK is also forgiving when adding lines that aren't a size apart (in my experience), since both are pulling into each other. Peace.

Very minuscule in a very huge way. I suck and tie all these knots much more lately. I switched to a 9 foot rod from a 7.5 and have found every f’n tree branch on the creek.

It would behoove everybody here to ditch the clinch knot. Your next trophy trout with depend on it, ask me how I know. Personally I want my knot as close to breaking strength as my line rating. The three I now actually trust are: Orvis Knot, Trip/Dbl Surgeon, and for a loop knot the Non Slip Mono Loop. For the swinging fly guys, a Turl Knot is your friend. Yes a loop knot provides more action at the cost of less feel, I usually only use it on strip or jig streamer actions.
Nope, clinch knot works just fine…same with improved for smaller diameter and/or fluoro. I catch hundreds of fish every year, have maybe 3-5 knot failures per year and they’re my fault nearly 100% of the time. There’s no need to complicate your life with this and that…I like having slightly under breaking strength in my knots…makes life a lot less painful when you get hopelessly snagged on some piece of debris in the current.
@@manifestgtr sure maybe smaller diameter and fish. I target sizeable trout in the 4-6lb range, steelhead and salmon 10+. I don’t get a chance to fish smaller stuff so maybe it works then but nobody up here uses that knot lol

I prefer double uni knots for tying two lines together. Works for tarpon, I haven't seen any slippage yet on trout leaders

You’d only need one knot if you used a tippet ring and the difference in diameter wouldn’t become and issue. Just saying…. :-)
