  • The Blood knot is one of the best knots to secure 2 pieces of like size fishing line. It isn't an overly complicated knot. It is really just 2 clinch knots sliding into one another but to complete a blood knot can require a bit of dexterity and practice. Brian has a unique way of building the blood knot and it just may make it a bit easier for you.

    "...this is the part of the blood knot where it really helps to have a third hand, I'm a fisherman so I use my mouth quite a bit." Truer words could not have been spoken.

      Regardless of how it is tied, it takes practice to get the dexterity and muscle memory down pat for sure!

    Terrific! I've always struggled to tie a blood knot. My mind knows perfectly well what to do but my fingers can't always seem to follow. I've watched several videos on YT, all pretty good at making the blood easier to tie. Your method seems to me to be the easiest to both remember and execute. Thanks for that!

    I would have thought most people without a toothpick or something inserted for that loop, would be tying this method. used it for years but went to double surgeons for cold weather/water since it just as strong , much simpler and reallly not that bulky…good demonstration of the blood knot here

    WOW is that simplified, I’m definitely trying that. One question: when you overlap to form the big loop, does in make a difference if you go under or over the line your holding in your left hand.

    • @mossycreekflyfishing
      @mossycreekflyfishing  10 місяців тому

      It doesn't matter if you form the loop going over or under, but when you are putting your tag ends through the loop you create, be mindful not to unwrap a tag. Hope this makes sense and is helpful.

  • @charlesging4630
    @charlesging4630 Місяць тому

    This is a great method! When pulling out the loop that becomes the target for the tag ends, is it ever a concern that you haven't pulled the center point of the twists? If you haven't pulled the center loop, won't there be uneven knots that cinch together?

    • @mossycreekflyfishing
      @mossycreekflyfishing  Місяць тому +1

      If you get too far from the center it can be a problem. You want to shoot for the center as best you can.

  • @skorflyfishing
    @skorflyfishing 10 місяців тому +1

    Thanks for the demo! What do you do if you want more wraps on one side due to differences in diameter of the two lines that you are tying together? I assume that you pull the loop out from a different place. Have you tried this?

    • @mossycreekflyfishing
      @mossycreekflyfishing  10 місяців тому

      You can certainly look and count wraps. If tying 3x to 4x and you want 1 or 2 extra wraps on the smaller sized tippet you can offset the loop you form by a few wraps for sure.

  • @christopherball9227
    @christopherball9227 10 місяців тому +1

    Does it matter which line you make the opening in (you used yellow one) but if I had, say braid on one side and fluoro on the other, would the opening be with the braid?

    • @mossycreekflyfishing
      @mossycreekflyfishing  10 місяців тому +2

      When you form the loop and you start to try and tease out the loop usually the one on top pulls up, it won't really matter you just want to try to grab in the center so the number of wraps on each side will be symmetrical. Generally you want a wrap or 2 more on the side with smaller diameter tippet but if you are using like size/same size tippet it will be strong if its off by 1 or 2 wraps.

    The problem with a blood knot is line memory and the short working tags quickly work against the knot tyer. The tag ends jump and spin, often the first seated tag climbs out of the loop hole when making wraps for the final tag. Also, the entire first, seated tag and counterwraps will often spin over themselves in counter rotation, confusing the tyer with a birds nest of monofilament and drawing down on the open loop made for the second tag. You really should be proud of yourself. This is an exemplery example of critical thinking applied to a challenge issue.
