I've been tying this knot going on 40 years and this is the best method I've encountered. Never had this much control over how long the tags end up being. Can't wait to build some new leaders. Thanks very much! Subscribed
Dude, I've been struggling with the blood knot for a while and gave up. Followed your steps and I got it first try, true game-changing method right here!
You can teach an old dog new tricks. I started tying blood knots when I was 7. My dad taught me. I am 70 + now. Never been afraid of the knot, but alway felt it was a pain to tie. Your explanation is a whole new and simple way! Thanks a bunch
I’ve been tying it for over 30 years the traditional way and sometimes it can be a pain in the butt, particularly in cold conditions or when tying 6x material. What I find works for me is to moisten the tippet / leader materials so that they stick to my hands a bit. I have that type of skin that makes it impossible to open plastic bags at the grocery store without wetting my fingers. Also, having tension on the standing portions helps to tie it. I suppose your method does this automatically since you are holding all strands simultaneously and apply some tension while twisting both ends. Fun fact: you don’t have to have the tag ends come out in opposite directions. This makes it quick and easy to trim the tag ends with one cut. Thanks for sharing! After these many years, I don’t know whether I can change method but I can give it a try. 😊
I can tie a Blood Knot faster than a triple surgeon I LOVE The Blood Knot. I've been tying it since I bought an ORVIS Leader Cutback in the early 1970's.Good Video and a VERY nice Rod selection.
I've used the blood knot for years - and that's the best explanation I've ever seen- kudos. Great knot for creating droppers on a multi-fly cast - just leave one tag end a little long.
I’ve been tying this knot the slow way for 40 years! I wasn’t going to watch this because I thought I couldn’t possibly learn anything, anyway I’m very glad I did. Thank you
I must admit…I’ve seen and attempted other ways of tying this knot & failed. This method, however, I have succeeded several times. Like you said it just takes practice and make sure there is plenty of line. Short lines will not work especially if one has big hands. Fortunately, I have small hands, so this method appears to be my choice. Thanks for the tutorial. 👍🏽
This is a great practical tutorial on how to tie this knot, most demos of the structure dont actually show an easy way to manage the lines. Excellent video!
Brand new into fly fishing. Having been a fisherman of other styles, I have never used a blood knot. I can see how it will help me in this new adventure. Great video. Very easy to do with a little practice. Thank you for sharing your knowledge.
Thank you so much i just started fishing a month ago I been so scared of this knot my brother or my cousin do this for me because I never tried to learn it yesterday I spent 4 hours and I got it down but then I tried again for 2 hours and gave up because I struggle to figure it out again I hope this method helps me get it first try ! Thanks for this video
I watched another video about this knot and I was having such a hard time trying to tie it, so I get fed up and stumbled across your video and was confused at first but on my 2nd try I got the hang of it. Now I can tie flouro to my braid. Thanks!
I finally figured it out with another fellows easy way to do it and yours is better lol. Eventually someone is going to come along, stare at the line and babing a blood knot but til I learn that method I'm going to try yours now.
Interesting. I tie it the traditional way but will give this a try too.Thx I like it when you show the over your shoulder perspective. That's what you see when tying. Thx, good video.
Now I have experemented it and it works beautifully ; Thank again , after 50 years in fly fishing this is the firs time I have so beautiful knots . (French speaker )
OMG I have been trying to learn this knot for what seems like an eternity, not for fly fishing but for lure coursing, yup dogs chasing a plastic bag "lure". It is the knot commonly used to tie the two ends of the lure line together. You have given me the AH HA moment!!! Now I can actually tie the knot, YEAH!!!!!
Brilliant !! I’ve never attempted to try this knot but you made it extremely easy to do it. Now this is my goto knot for attaching the leader to my braid.
Thank you for showing this method. I have some neurological damage and lost fine feeling sensation in my fingers. I struggle to tie knots with fishing line by myself and this method is a godsend to be able to tie this knot!! thanks again
I don’t know if this will help but look in to the uni knot for your connecting knot. It’s the only connection knot I use to the bait. Easy knot and strong as for connecting line to line I agree this is super easy. When I can remember which way I put the lines through. Lol. Hope you find easier methods to keep you fishing!
Just found your channel. This vid came up in my suggested feed. I just couldn't wrap my head around how to tie a blood with my two hands that have fat fingers. I just tried the method you show in this vid and it was very easy! I've always tied my fly fishing leaders with a nail knot. I might switch, if for no other reason than I don't need a tool to do this blood knot method. I'm also now going to use the blood knot instead of an Alberto knot for tying leaders to braid on my bait casters and spin casters.
I’ve got five months to practice this until things start to warm up around here! Thanks for a great explanation. I practice a knot hundreds of times every winter to use it next season. Looking forward to mastering the blood knot. Like many others, I’ve avoided it.
I've been tying the blood knot since I was a little kid and don't find it difficult. The traditional method works well for me. I have a method of pinching the loop in the middle that requires only my thumb and first finger on my left hand. The only time I run into trouble is when I excecute the knot with very short tag ends--less than two inches. It is more difficult with tippet under 4x--but I have trouble with other knots then too. I hate using up lots of leader material to tie knots!
@@AZFlyShop OMG OMG. I’m 83 yrs old and have had little success tying this knot due to failing eyesight and arthritis- you made it simple and effective - thank you so much.
Wow like the comments below I learnt it as a kid from my old man and 50 now but could still get in a tangle doing it on the run. Never seen that and very cool. Subscribed.
This is the knot my father taught me when I first started fly fishing. I trust the blood knot over the many others, especially, over the triple surgeons knot. As easy as it is to tie t.s., it’s unreliable to me and always will snap at the mend than at the fly.
Great video! I can't wait to try this method. I tie a lot of blood knots and they've always taken me at least a minute each, sometimes longer. Thanks for sharing!
Been tying this knot since I was a kid and always found it a time consuming pain. And with aging eyes, it's no easier today, despite the practice. Many thanks for the tips. Gonna try it out.
This is a brilliant use of mechanics. We don’t often think of our bodies as machines, but when we do, we can utilize them in ways like this.. the key was understanding chirality- the blood knot is a chiral knot and our hands are perfectly formed to act in that way. I never thought of this. Perhaps the knot is difficult to tie because we are fighting our natural chiral tendencies. Absolute breakthrough thinking on your part.
I'm going to try this. I've always found a blood knot to be very difficult to tie the conventional way and I usually use double or triple surgeon's knot to tie on tippet.
Setting up the gripping of the line also counts as tying time, and out in the field with wind and such factors, that is what takes the longest, but this is certainly fast once you have your grip set up. Wind is always a time killer for knots though.
Wow! I use the blood knot from braided line to fluorocarbon leader for a Texas rig (bass fishing). I don't break them often but this will come in super handy next time I have to tie it!
Absolutely the best method! Easy to tie, easy to remember. Could not ask for a clearer explanation and the additional video from behind was invaluable. No more excuses for compromising on another knot.
Really like this method. Thanks. Beats the old way which in some instances pushed me to tie a triple surgeon. This way is a lot like adding a hook loop on a hi-lo surf fishing rig.
