Hey this Aarya, today it's my first day of learning mridangam, my mother was forcing me to start this. I've stared to learn mridangam when I was at 4th standard after 3 years I leave the class for some reasons. Now I'm at 9th grade now I'm starting it once again, just for getting my fingers a little bit fluent. This was my responce of this video for you sir
Namasthe Arya, I am glad that you made up mind to resume. Please let me know for any doubt you might get. Follow the tips as I have shown here for getting the right flexibility and strength ua-cam.com/video/mOEFeHJx69o/v-deo.html . All the best for your learning :-)

Even here in USA , there are few students of mine who are bharatha natyam dancers ; who are interested to learn konnakol & other upa-pakkavadhyas such as khanjira etc.
In apps to start with set for first kaala for 60 for beginners. 70 if learning for some time. Kaala pramana is in terms of aksharas. Say 2 for first kaala 4 for second and 8 for third BPM remains the same
Excellent sir. It cannot get easier than this. Could you give a brief explanation about 35 talas and cover misra, khanda, sankheerna thalas. My pranams to you. Also could you highlight the difference between gathi and jathi. Thanks sir
Thank you so much for your valuable input. We are planning to upload videos of different thalas in the future. Will definitely work on your request. Thank you for all the encouragement. It means a lot! 🙂
When you explain Adi tal , its angaas , syllables and speed everything is pretty clear but when it is applied to a composition, it becomes totally confusing . I am looking forward to your guidance . I am 66 , I am an ardent music lover but when it comes to taala , it is totally perplexing , how the cycles goes , where drutham ends where laghu starts I couldn’t figure out .
Namasthe Good to see your message Please clap to sync up while listening to compositions Try with only aadithaala songs and keep repeating the Thaala while listening to it. You will get habituated 🙏
I would recommend to start from first kaala (60 bpm), then if needed you can increase the tempo to 70, then 80. Usually for many of the classical songs it would be 80.

what's the difference between lagha and drutha? why can't it be 2 lagha? Or 4 dhruta? why 1 lagha and 2 dhrutha, I don't seem to understand. please, somebody explain.
Laghu literally means light or short/small
Dhrutha means fast /quick
As it's different hand gestures, names are different
Thank u sir Mee Cell no cheppanda Sir🌷💐🙏.....
Namasthe andi. +1405 - 761 - 6939 🙏
Not "Keel" kaala...
It must be pronounced as "Keezh" kaala, for lower speeds...
🙏🙏🙏
Every language has it's own pronunciation/version 🙂🙏
It's not thadhi
Thath
Thith
Namasthe, I appreciate your comments. Depending on the guru paramparaa the pronunciations and notations differ. In most of the teaching lineages, I know have been using- Tha Dhi Thom Nam as the basic syllables. Please do let me know more about the place/origin of lineage you belong to 🙏🏻
