    Thank you for sharing! My couch has a similar issue and I’ve been hesitant to open it up because I’ve never worked on upholstered furniture before. I know every couch isn’t the same, but this gave me a general idea of what to expect, and a great solution if I have the same kind of problem. I appreciate that you took the time to document and explain your process, and thanks for the tip on the Craig jig!

    I would have made the template but left original in place and fortified it with the piece you cut with glue and screws..clamp together and screw it in.. whatever it takes.. thanks for the inspiration.. my couch has that exact problem.. wonder how it broke!😎

    Complicated oven door attachments.
    Mine is simply 4 screws with two cover plates to disassemble.
    Steel wool to get caked on grease off.
    Then use a car windows detailing product and microfibre cloth to polished glass to a super transparent clean finish.
    Reattach both glass panels to the oven door ,place both cover plates in position, secure x4 screws.
    Job done .............till nxt time😕
    This was supposed to be posted for the Oven glass door cleaning video.
    Sorry.

    Am I able to do these same steps with a broken particle board couch? It broke underneath where we sit, as well as behind. It sticks out at an angle behind right where it broke.
    If I'm not able to fix my particle board couch this same way, how should I go about doing it? I've worked with metal but never wood (or particle boards) so I'm ignorant to this.
    However, I would really like to try to salvage my couch.🙏
    I'm also autistic, so if you do know how to fix it, please use details in telling me to prevent confusion. I misunderstand things often because my brain needs the details. 😅
    Anyhow, I'd love to be able to build this skill so I can pass this down to my son. Also, saving money and having the skills to salvage furniture is great. 😄

      Thanks for taking the time to comment and nice to meet you! The hard part is going to be taking out the broken section so that you can trace the pattern onto a stronger piece of plywood. Without being there to help you, I would recommend having a friend look at how the particle board is connected to the rest of the couch and see if they think it can be taken out without too much trouble. If it can, then the process would be similar to what I had shown in the video, however you may have to use screws to mount the new board to the couch frame.

    Is it absolutely necessary to use staples? Or can you use small wood screws?
    Cuz I plan on reinforcing the frame that I already have. It's not really broken but the Staples in the support of struts in the back keep bending out

    • @ThatDadMike
      @ThatDadMike  3 роки тому +1

      I would definately use the wood screws and wood glue on the supports you are adding.

    What if it’s the spring that’s broken off and bent, and the boards are fine?

    • @ThatDadMike
      @ThatDadMike  3 роки тому +3

      That's a great question. What I would do is take the spring out and measure it and then order a replacement form Amazon of the same length. Here is a 4 pack of springs on Amazon: amzn.to/3cFN4Lb

      I’m fixing mine now. The center brace is broken but it’s also screwed to the spring assembly. So I clamped and glued using a bunch of clamps and some angle iron. After it dried I added three pieces of plywood more glue and screws and staples, reclamp and wait for glue to dry. Back to the way it use to be.
