I rarely add commentary to videos. All I can say is fantastic job. Unlike others, you didn’t feel the need to ramble and when you spoke it was clear and concise.
That is incredible, i have never seen anyone suck out the air with a vacuum for putting a cover on a cushion. Normally we struggle to get the cover on, a cm at a time on each side. thanks for show this.
And that is what my guy said as well. Our couches are about 11 years old, but we want to retire them to the basement this summer- after we finish it. We are military so we have moved a ton over the years...but have kept good care of our couches. I'm so greatful that you said the same things my guy said because now I feel like we are making the right decision to replace the cushions. The bones of our couch are good and the fabric (while not top of the line) is still in great condition. Thanks for being such a great resource for me and my thrifty family!
Perfect demonstration Buck! The nugget I got from this is to use a smaller hose end and put the nozzle between the Dacron and the foam. Makes perfect sense. Now I can avoid all the restarts from sucking the plastic in to the nozzle.
Yo. This was like the greatest demonstration EVER bro. LOL. Real talk. I'm not gonna attempt it but it's nice to know people like yourself exist that can put QUALITY workmanship in to save furniture pieces. Gonna give my local upholsterer a call,
Very inspiring video. My favorite part was when he made sure that the teeth of the zipper didn’t bite the pillow. “Keep the background out of the teeth“, I really live by those words every day.
That vacuum trick is genius! Have a sofa where I'll have to slice leather to insert the new foam core (and sew up and patch afterward,) this will make it go a lot smoother, thank you!
Looks easier than I thought (famous last words?) I like the idea of using the vac to shrink down the foam so you can fit back into the cover. Thanks for posting!
Buckminster Upholstery ... I must say, every time I've watched how Easily you do Any and All types of upholstery repairs...I'm amazed as I watch how Skillful you are at doing so! PS. Thank you very much for the "Vacuum compression method." I'll be using it this weekend, and it will make (Life!) my job "So Much Easier!" Cheer's...
Wow I’m gonna look for that silk film stuff. Makes it easier for sure and safer to insert the cushion. You make things look applicable for a seamstress to do it myself. Well done👍
Excellent vid i wish this guy was in my neck of the woods. Worth every penny to get my cushions repaired and prevent wifey from spending all that $$ for a new one!
This is exactly what I'm in the market for. Don't know if I can do this well but I just may give it a shot. My sofa is in too good a condition to replace the whole thing.
Wow - That as answered my long-sought answer of how you get it all back in cover again. A little knowledge and the right methodology works wonders! NOW HOW DID THEY BUILD THE PYRAMIDS?
Thank you so much. I found a reputable upholstery place near by to see if they can get the foam for me. I can't wait to give some new life to my couches!!
Thank you for the informative video. I found your trick of vacuuming to compress the cushion to be especially useful. Do you have any recommendation on quick fixes for home use? In particular, how to wash the cloth that small kids have spilled juice, etc. on?
This was a great video, very interesting to learn the techniques! I believe my cushions are 7" in height. Would the HR-30 be sufficient for the 7" depth?
Seven inches is a very thick cushion. This sounds unusual... HR-30 is relatively firm. What is the present height from floor to cushion top? 18"-19" is typical seating height prior to compression. Are you a tall person?
Buckminster Upholstery thanks for the heads up. I'll re-evaluate and get thise measurements. I'm not unusually tall either, so I must have measured wrong.
Buckminster Upholstery, so the seam to seam depth of my cushions is 5.75", the foam measured about 5.25" in the back where it is less worn. The batting was only covering one side but it 1" batting. I think I'd like to do the standard 3 sided batting covering but not sure which depth of foam to order.
Usually the boxing is slightly under the foam thickness in order to give the cushion some crown. 4 1/2" boxing = 5" foam. In your case I would use 6" foam. Inspect the seams to make sure they have adequate allowance (1/2"+) Often times factory workers get sloppy with their sewing. Loose woven fabrics can slip apart at the seams when subject to a tight fitting core.
Marvellous, very well presented, a pleasure to watch, Thanks. I'd be interested to know the total cost because here in the U.K. I was quoted over £230.00 (about $350) from one outlet but got a home job done for £150.00. Now need doing again after 10 months.
Great demo. I wondered how the silk wrap worked. Can it be left in place for outside cushions, perhaps? I’m looking to wrap the current cushion material for my patio chairs to replace the worn out cushions. I’ve got sunbrella fabric already. The cushion material is a bit soft. Could I glue a thin, firmer foam to the existing foam to give it a bit more oomph? The cushions are currently 3-1/4” thick. Better quality seat cushions can be 5-6” thick for a seat? Are there any books on upholstery that you’d recommend?
I learned a new tip...put the end of vac between the foam and dacron! thanks...I will tell you that I clamp my vac hose to my table which allows me to better handle my cushions ( or else I am likely to pull the vac away before I really want to
Very easy to understand and informative. I would like to know ballpark price for that piece of foam, and ballpark price for an upholsterer to do what you did so eloquently. Thank you
Amazon has many sellers of high density foam. You can also google for replacement cushion foam. The foam sold by JoAnn and Michael's is not very high density, even though it may be advertised as such.
gstric40 There are many places a person can buy the foam. Wholesalers will require a sales tax ID number in order to do business. Prices can vary drastically according to cushion dimensions and distributor's cost. Shipping is an added factor. In this case the foam was of highest quality and the completed repair was $100 + tax.
hello my name is Nicole and I look your very interesting videos. I live in France near Paris. My husband and I want to redo all the cushions of our lounge. We bought foam blocks cut to our measurements. How to measure the final fabric to have a good comfortable and well rounded cushion? Finally, where do you buy the plastic in which you put the foam covered with cotton wool to clear the air with a vacuum cleaner? Thank you very much for your response that will really help. cordially I apologize for my English school!
Hello Nicole. If you're making new covers measure the original to get your fabric measurements. Try shopping a hardware or paint store for the cheapest, lightest weight disposable plastic drop-cloth. This should work with the vacuum to shrink the foam cores. Thanks for watching. Kim
great job. I need a replacement foam for my love seat couch but no furniture sells it. strange!! when u buy furniture from them it comes with it but them don't sell it separately. so I am gina soak my foam in water and air dry it and hope that will help and get back the shape after.
In your opinion and experience, can natural latex be used with something like a cardboard center to stiffen the cushion enough, instead of plastic foam?
I had a cushion replaced but it is so firm it has no give and is uncomfortable. What cushioning should I buy. Many types are available for purchase. I paid 130.00 and don't want to waste any more money on mistakes.
what is a good sturdy foam that I can replace my couch cushions with I need something that doesn't give way I have a bad back and would like something that is really firm? and were is a food place to find it, I live in San Antonio, Texas?
I'm not sure what to tell you, not seeing your cushions. If they simply have buttons pulled in on both surfaces there shouldn't be any need for changing procedure. Stuff the new core, align and tie the buttons to the desired depth. (talking sight unseen!)
I did and got a quote for 6 cushions. It was quite a bit higher then I thought so I'm going to shop around. Somehow I thought it would be a couple of hundred dollars and it came in at 750.00, with a 35 charge per cushion. The guy was super nice, but discouraged me from doing it on my own since really most of the cost is for the foam. Also, he said the foam was a bit higher density. I think 35 vs the HR30.
Density can differ. A distributor from years back had HR-33 which I used mostly in 4" thickness. HR-30 is quite adequate at 5". Prices vary from one location to another. The price you were given per cushion would compare with one of mine completed in average size and shape, including new dacron. The deciding factor lays upon the condition of the upholstery and how long you intend to keep the furniture. Bummer but a couple hundred bucks won't gain you anything... Thanks for tuning in!
There is something so fundamentally beautiful about watching a professional nail the job with such ease.
I rarely add commentary to videos. All I can say is fantastic job. Unlike others, you didn’t feel the need to ramble and when you spoke it was clear and concise.
God bless you! Wasted 6 hours of my life trying to squeeze the foam into the zipper casing. This tip was sent from God.
Amen
Excellent, as usual. Please don’t underestimate how valuable these videos are to me!!!
That is incredible, i have never seen anyone suck out the air with a vacuum for putting a cover on a cushion. Normally we struggle to get the cover on, a cm at a time on each side. thanks for show this.
Impressive! That Silk Film/shop vac maneuver was amazing!
Love watching you. So quietly and clearly demonstrates. Thanks
Just tried this, instructions and demonstration worked flawlessly for my cushions. Thank you!
And that is what my guy said as well. Our couches are about 11 years old, but we want to retire them to the basement this summer- after we finish it. THANK YOU!!!! I used your technique on two sofa cushions. In about one hour, I basically had a new sofa!
Very inspiring video. My favorite part was when he made sure that the teeth of the zipper didn’t bite the pillow.
“Keep the background out of the teeth“, I really live by those words every day.
made me smile, thanks pal♡
Why would anyone give this video a thumbs down!? Great job sir
That vacuum trick is genius! Have a sofa where I'll have to slice leather to insert the new foam core (and sew up and patch afterward,) this will make it go a lot smoother, thank you!
Wow! Thanks for the demo. I'm really relieved to know that I can have my couch repaired instead of replaced.
Brilliant! Thank you! Doing my boat's cushions and the vacuum approach is so helpful.
Looks easier than I thought (famous last words?) I like the idea of using the vac to shrink down the foam so you can fit back into the cover. Thanks for posting!
You explain all this very well as you go. Good to know you can replace the inside cushion and be good as new. Thanks.

Thank you!!! My sectional has no rips, stains or burns I definitely do not want to throw it out!! Thanks to you I won’t!!
Nice job sir 👍🏽 I was thinking how long before it expands! Ooooooh no I was not ready for the magic in letting out the air 👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾🙏
So helpful to see how you do this. (WOW that plastic product!) thank you!
Thanks for the simple instructions. I’m in the process of reupholstering two couches and have a cushion that needs to be completely replaced.
This is clearly a professional at work wow

Ask for HR-30
Nicely done, excellent replacement idea with foam, thanks for sharing
...That was a pleasure to watch. Great job and thank you.
vacuum bit was so therapeutic to watch
Found this video looking for couch cushion foam. Seems like a really cool guy you can have drinks with.
Gotta admit. That was pretty good. Made it look pretty easy.
You make it look simple and easy, but what’s easy?? Thanks so much!! 😀😀😀
Absolutely genius!!! Thanks for sharing
BEST DEMONSTRATION I HAVE EVER SEEN ON UA-cam!
Nice demonstration! Thank you 😎
I admire Your incredibly precise job. Thank you.
This is such a great video! I want to replace my sofa foam with a more firmer one. Could you pls recommend a firmer foam grade?
In the video I used high resiliency, HR-30 lb. Suppliers will differ in their ratings. HR-43 is my next option and feels very firm in 5" thickness.
Thank you!
Love these videos, plastic use is intensive
That's the coolest way to get the foam back in. I wash my covers and have gotten used to stuffing and zipping and breaking out in a sweat 😅
Great video. Do you have to do the vacuum part or is that just to get the cushion in the couch cover?
I wanted to like this twice. this is so smart!!!!
Thank you for the informative video. I found your trick of vacuuming to compress the cushion to be especially useful. Do you have any recommendation on quick fixes for home use? In particular, how to wash the cloth that small kids have spilled juice, etc. on?
you probably just can wash it like any other piece of cloth?
Very nice! Thank you for posting this. You made it very easy to understand. Your instructions were simply great.
This was a great video, very interesting to learn the techniques! I believe my cushions are 7" in height. Would the HR-30 be sufficient for the 7" depth?

Great video. I may have missed it but what type of plastic are you using and are you using a shop vac to suction the air out?
Marvellous, very well presented, a pleasure to watch, Thanks. I'd be interested to know the total cost because here in the U.K. I was quoted over £230.00 (about $350) from one outlet but got a home job done for £150.00. Now need doing again after 10 months.
+Trevor Hibbert $100 in high grade foam. Thanks for the kind words.
Is that $100 per cushion. Our sofa has 4 cushions, and I want to have all four of them done.

The ridges in my vacuum hose tend to grab against the metal edge on my tabletop. Yes, sometimes it does want to pull away.
Very easy to understand and informative. I would like to know ballpark price for that piece of foam, and ballpark price for an upholsterer to do what you did so eloquently. Thank you

Try Ebay
Fascinating. How did you get the rest of the plastic out from the snug closed end without ripping off?
Not too difficult to fit my hand inside the cover. Plastic slides pretty easily but you must be careful to not stress and break the zipper.
This is a very handy video, can you tell us where we can get the foam?
Looks easy, just ordered some foam from Foam Global. Thanks for sharing👍
how did i get down this rabbit hole? and why is watching people re-cushion couches so interesting?
Thanks a lot for sharing, looks very easy!!!!
Exceptional tutorial. Thanks.
Good to follow Thank you x
I need new batting on my couch cushions. The covers unzip so its easy to get to. I noticed the batting has ripped and all bunched around the sides.

Hello Nicole.
If you're making new covers measure the original to get your fabric measurements. Try shopping a hardware or paint store for the cheapest, lightest weight disposable plastic drop-cloth. This should work with the vacuum to shrink the foam cores. Thanks for watching. Kim
Thank you very much for your answer.
very goodlooking job! but what plastic are you ussing with the vacuüm cleaner?
Thanks it works my husband was flabbergasted 😉
Thank you for making this video, very informative.
great job. I need a replacement foam for my love seat couch but no furniture sells it. strange!! when u buy furniture from them it comes with it but them don't sell it separately. so I am gina soak my foam in water and air dry it and hope that will help and get back the shape after.
Soaking your cushions is a bad idea! It won't dry as easily as you think. Ever smell a stale sponge from the kitchen sink? Trust me, don't do it.
In your opinion and experience, can natural latex be used with something like a cardboard center to stiffen the cushion enough, instead of plastic foam?
I can't imagine why...
@@Buckminsterupholstery Thank you.
HI that's really a great job
I just want to know what is that White material
polyester fiber
Loved the vacuum trick!
Good Job as usual 😎😁👍🇪🇬
Thank you, Sir...Your video came very handy....Keep up the good work!!!!!
Very informative video.thank you.great job!
THIS IS AWESOME!!! IS that a regular shopvac??
yes
great demonstration now to see if I can do it.
Super class!
Very good!
Thank you very much!
Hi, nice and useful shoot. What is the width of the foam and density pls?
5 inches thick. HR-30 foam.
@@Buckminsterupholstery thank you
Beautiful piece of work, but who has the workplace and tools to do it?
Nice 👍 work
Genius! Great video.
Non toxic glue, very nice.
You are an artist
How much does a service like this run for? I would love to fix my couch cushions instead of buying a new couch
At seven year old pricing this was a $100 cushion. Thickness makes a large variable in price.
I watched this at a 1.5 playback speed; worked well.
Fantastic video, thank you!
Helpful, thanks!
Very nice demonstration. :))
If we wanted to do something like this ourselves, how would we find a good foam distributor to cut the pieces for us?
Nice work that man made a hard job easy
I have actually used that stuffing method with spring units
I had a cushion replaced but it is so firm it has no give and is uncomfortable. What cushioning should I buy. Many types are available for purchase. I paid 130.00 and don't want to waste any more money on mistakes.
I used HR-30. (high resiliency) Top grade commercial quality.

how do you deal with tufted cushions? same process or would you have to deal with the batting a different way?
I'm not sure what to tell you, not seeing your cushions. If they simply have buttons pulled in on both surfaces there shouldn't be any need for changing procedure. Stuff the new core, align and tie the buttons to the desired depth. (talking sight unseen!)

Check your local hardware or paint store for the cheapest, thinnest disposable plastic drop cloth.
