  • We have been traveling full time since 2006 by various RVs, a boat, trains, planes, cruise ships and island life.
But with the pandemic, we decided to put travels on 'pause' by returning to a favorite marina in Sanford, FL to wait out COVID and hurricane season.
We just crossed the 5-month mark of having a home base, marking our longest stay in one spot yet in 14 years of nomadic travels. Although we are mixing it up with local boating and van trips.
We reflect a bit, talk about veteran nomads shifting their travels, new RVers & boaters hitting the road and what's up ahead for us.

We're Cherie & Chris and we've been full time technomads since 2006. We are owned by Kiki (meow).
We have a fleet of nomadic vessels that we split our time between - a 1961 GM 4106 vintage bus, a 1999 Bayliner 4788 motor yacht and a 2016 Travato 59G van conversion. You'll find RV, van and boat life content here, as we feel inspired to share - sometimes topical, sometimes travelogues, sometimes just hanging out.
We love sharing a slice of our life with others, and also blog at www.technomadia.com, Facebook and Instagram. We use the name 'Technomadia' in all those places. Come join the adventure however you choose!
Income generation is NOT a goal of ours under the 'Technomadia' brand - we do this for fun. While not an expectation, sharing the love back sure keep us inspired to keep sharing. Ways you can say thanks here: www.technomadia.com/thanks (but honestly, leaving comments is awesome!)
Our full time 'job' is running the Mobile Internet Resource Center, where we track and educate RVers and cruisers on their options for keeping connected. Come join us at www.MobileInternetInfo.com for news, guides, reviews and courses. We also have a dedicated UA-cam channel / mobileinternetresource... you can subscribe to. Through member funding, we can give away a lot of free content - and our members get even more.

I bumped into you both at the boat ramp today in Sanford. I discovered your channel when looking for videos on traveling the St Johns River. I grew up in Seminole county and heard friends tell me about the St. John's River and how it's one of the few rivers that flows North and that you can travel it to Jacksonville, however in my circle of friends I've never met anyone who's actually has done it. So I began planning MY big adventure of doing it in our 24-ft center console fishing boat (that decided to be a hole in the water to throw money in today 😕). That's when I found your channel and learned about the Great Loop... WOW that's a real adventure, I doubt that I'll ever have the circumstances to personally do that, so thanks for letting me tag along through your videos.

Thanks so much for following up here with a bit of your story.. as we were both otherwise distracted when we bumped :). If you see us around the docks again, do say hi... we'll be here a while. We love Sanford, been such a great place to wait things out until we can resume the adventure. And do enjoy the St. Johns - it's one of our favorite cruising segments yet!

I did the opposite; the so-called "pandemic" hit, and I hit the road. Escaping Virginia and hanging in Florida for the last three months has been fantastic. Life is back to normal here.....

I feel like you two are perfectly positioned to deal with the current situations. Lots of options for ways to get around on land and water, an established business targeting a burgeoning field and a good attitude as well. Happy that you are happy! 😀

We are also FL resident full time RVers that are really long time Floridians. In January we decided to take a break and buy a house in. Inverness, FL. Little did we know in a couple of months most of our RV friends would be pausing or RVing differently. Sanford is a lovely place to ride out the pandemic. A pleasure to hear your positive view. Keeps us aware we are not alone.

I understand the Kapok Tree Restaurant sold in the 90’s. There were a half dozen huge venues to choose from. Had my first hurricane drink there. Oh boy howdy 6 types of booze. I can’t imagine they destroyed the beautiful fountains. I read there is a music store there amongst other businesses. If you ever get to the Clearwater area please share a video of it. Continued happiness and success.

We full time and have been sitting still for 11 months at our home base in Alabama. I have to say we are loosing our minds. So the next run is 9 months long starting the end of November. Since we have been off the reservations have gotten difficult and the costs have gone up. The race to increase RV production has created a real spare parts shortage. We have several friends that are down for parts. Modifications and upgrades have also slowed do to increased RV production.

We stayed in Florida until Mid July, then finally headed back to our summer home in Michigan. We plan to stay until the end of November, so we can be with family for Thanksgiving. If anything, this pandemic has taught us the importance of being near family.

    • @Technomadia

We visited Sanford because of your recommendation when looking for a new homebase and it was amazing! I actually just got accepted to the Remote Shoals program though so I'm headed to Alabama for a year at least! Will 100% be visiting Sanford again. Central Florida has awesome stuff!

I don't follow you guys beyond this channel, so if you've covered it, please point me in that direction... but what are your thoughts about Starlink? My wife and I are budding web developers with intentions of spending winters in the Bahamas, and we are so stoked for the possibilities of being able to work while gunkholing in the Exumas and down in the Raggeds.

@@Technomadia Thanks for the quick reply! I just gave it a cursory read and it absolutely is a reality check. Particularly the point about the movement of the boat being enough to break connection. I understand you try to keep your content separate, so I'll take the convo over there as this technology develops. Thanks for all you guys put out there for the rest of us, and we hope that we can return the favor some day.

I'm reading in my local paper (Tampa) that the vaccine won't be available until the end of 2021, so you're probably correct.

    • @john543
      @john543 3 роки тому

@@RickMartinUA-cam If that's true, it will be much longer. Giving everyone a vaccine shot is not much different logistics wise and time wise as testing, so I would expect at least another 6 months or maybe longer to do the USA BUT if we don't inoculate the rest of the world it will continue to spread and if it mutates even more even those with the vaccine can get it again. This is going to be with us for a verrrry long time.
